Bought this Lenovo laptop as a replacement for anotther laptop that stopped worki ng unexpectedly and it has performed well. The only problem encountered was a weak connector for the charging cable which was easily bent and had to be replaced.

The cost is affordable for a light laptop having windows 10. However the device is short of star age which can be remedied with a SD card

Got it on sale, daughter needed a light weight computer to take to school. Not enough memory, and the keyboard has been reconfigured! I even called the store to ask about the keyboard before ordering. They said it was 'large' - nope. While it is not as bad as the Lenovo 710 I previously purchased, the shift key on right side of keyboard has the shift key smaller than normal and page up and pagedn is beside it. Should just leave keyboard - QWERTY. It has worked since 1868!!

With regard to the right shift key issue you mention, there is a free software APP called KeyTweak that may help you. You can switch the key functions of specific keys on your keyboard with this software, so you could change the right shift key with the key you hit in its place. Just Google search "KeyTweak" and you will find articles about what the software does and you will find the download location for this free APP. lenovo

    It's a Microsoft 'chromebook'

    Posted .

Perfect for W10 cloud, web-based apps at school or work. I'm a military reservist and our work is 100% web app and cloud computing today, so this poor man's, strip-down to nothing version of the Lenovo 110 is more than adequate. Probably great for schoolwork using google classroom and ms office 365. Teachers' school district IT software will slow everything to a halt, you'd need an Intel Core-i3 or better. Hulu and Netflix works fine. It is NOT for gaming, media or storing a whole bunch of photos. This laptop shouts 'Those days are over'. Owning this means you're going to live off the web, cloud folders like dropbox, and sd cards and thumb drives. After a few small installs like MS store apps and ccleaner, only 12.7 GB free out of the 32GB eMMC drive, so I stopped there. Performance is consistent. This laptop should be renamed 110-C for Cloud or Cloud book.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad 100s-14 laptop. This is not a Chromebook. It has a full version of Windows 10 64-bit operating system onboard. You, of course can use Cloud-based APPs and storage, but it is not necessary. You can augment the onboard storage space of this device by utilizing the Micro-SD card slot and add up to an additional 128GB of solid state storage space. lenovo

Good for school & blogging, storage limitations

    |
    Posted .

This excels in battery life, portability, keyboard quality, and screen quality (for a conventional TN-based screen). It falls short in storage capacity, storage speed (it's slow eMMC not much faster M.2 or SSD), and RAM. The net result is that this has ok speeds when scrolling web pages, tad slow opening linked tabs in the background, noticeably slow maneuvering complex websites like USA Today and NY Times. After 20 open tabs reloading an older tab takes a second longer as it retrieves it from the hard drive. 2gb RAM would be enough with a speedier hard drive (it would use the hard drive to store inactive windows). With just 2gb RAM and 32gb of (slow) storage it has to work harder. In a year or two the 2gb/32gb configurations will probably move into the history books and get replaced by 4gb/64gb configurations, and eMMC storage will probably get much faster implementations. So is this worth getting or not? Depends on your usage. If you treat it like a Chromebook - don't store files locally, don't try to run Photoshop locally (Word is fine, and is included for one year for free!), you should be ok. The battery life, compact thin & long cord wall-wart power charger, and thin and light construction make this fine for school work/cafe browsing. A BIG PLUS IS THE 14" SCREEN, compared to 11.6" screens usually found in this price niche. It's even up-sized compared to 13.3" laptops. Most "Settings" are optional, but monitor your storage usage under the "System" category and clean it up from time to time. CCleaner is also helpful.

This Chromebook is unusable if using 32Gb eMMC that came with Levono 100S. Unscrew the back can easily find an empty m.2 slot. I used a new screw to add in an Intel 256Gb SATAIII (not NVMe) SSD, boot 64bit Windows 10 (32 bits does not work) from a USB created by Windows Creation Too,l and do a clean Windows install on the new capacity SSD. The result is a workable entry level laptop for high schooler with non-upgradeable 2GB of RAM

    Perfect College Student Computer

    Posted .

I bought this for my daughter for a graduation present, to use at college in the fall. With Microsoft Office installed, I've been working it through the paces to make sure everything works. I have to say, for under $200, I'm SUPER impressed. It has everything you need and nothing you don't. I am now considering getting one for myself to replace my 3 year old HP. Pros: Thin, light, clear screen, and sufficient in speed to run MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint without issue. The battery life is great, and works great for web use including web apps like Google Docs. Cons: Not much hard drive space, but enough to run MS Word without having to be attached to the web. Suggestion: Get a micro SD card for extra storage. I put a 64 GB micro SD card for file storage and any additional apps. And that is plenty for music library, some pictures, and file storage for college student. Conclusion: I teach at a local college, and this computer is PERFECT for a college student. I highly recommend it.

First off I purchased this laptop for the compactness and lightness it offers. I knew what I was getting and very happy with it. Not expecting to play any heavy gaming or editing the next Steven Spielberg film with it. I love how it's a SSD and easy to carry in my backpack. Boot up time is sufficient and screen size is adequate. Overall happy with the purchase and would buy again. Plus got a great deal for less than $140!

This type of computer, is good for light computer work, like reading emails, and news reports. However, for more computer work, you need a STRONGER computer. PLUS, IT"S SO HARD TO WIPE IT"S DRIVE!!!!! They claim it's easy, but, IT"S NOT!!!! I need to retire this machine, but, it won't let me wipe of my personal information. Keeps blocking me. And I REALLY NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN DO IT. IT"S STUMPED THE EXPERTS. At my wits end here !!!!!!

    Actually, not bad.

This is bare-minimum laptop for basic home use. Web browsing, email, youtube, netflix... it'll handle that-- and that's all I needed it for. I picked up an open-box unit for <$150. Even at $180 it's worth it. This is chromebook price, but this machine runs actual windows 10. The only thing I would say is the integrated SSD is too small. 32GB and leaves very little space. There IS an M.2 socket inside where you can add a much larger SSD-- which is what I did with mine. The RAM can NOT be upgraded, so make sure 4GB is enough because that's all you'll ever get. Also, the AC Adapter cable is WAY too short... you have to sit like 6 feet from the wall to use it whilst charging-- so consider finding an extension cord or an adapter with a longer cord. It's light-- there's almost nothing to it. It feels very cheap-- but what do you expect for the money? The keyboard is decent, the trackpad is fine-- the display is not full HD, but if all you need is a basic machine, this will get the job done. You're not going to get much computer for <$200 but this little guy is just enough.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad 100s-14 laptop. This system has 2GB of RAM. It runs Windows 10 Home 32-bit as its operating system, which requires less than 1GB RAM to run. There is a Micro-SD card slot on the device to add more storage space. Please note, this model is not user upgradable. A certified technician must do all of the work, so as to not void the warranty. lenovo

    Minimal, but OK

    Posted .

Somewhat of an impulsive buy (though I did read up and window-shop a couple times). I have a 7-year old 10" netbook I use for storing and viewing photos while on vacation. Now back at school, that netbook was a bit too slow (with too low of a screen resolution, and tiny keyboard) to use at all if needed. So, I was looking at a "15 HP minimal laptop for $229, but I got this open box (looks unused) for $65 less. No DVD (not really needed in these "download days") and though it is an inch smaller it has a slightly larger keyboard because there is no 10-key next to it. It has a tiny solid-state drive, so storage is limited. I put a couple hours-worth of music on it, and installed a small photo program (that I may remove) leaving me about 10GB of space - not even 1 SD card full of photos. However, I can work around that by getting a couple 64GB USBs to temporarily hold vacation photos though those days are mostly over. Removing games and other unused software bits won't really make much difference in space. the keyboard feels good, though the touchpad takes some getting used to as most do. It has a built-in delay (removable) so you don't mess up typing on accident. I don't know if all touchpads work the same way, but you can pinch, expand and scroll with it. The biggest annoyance is Cortana popping up, seemingly at the slightest twitch. It works OK for web-browsing and email and other light duty, but don't expect much more. It is not for power-tripping all day on. It included 1-year Office 365 and 1 TB on OneDrive

    Reliable and Easy to Use.

My nephew turned 13 years old and decided to get a Lenevo chromebook for himself. He wanted something light and easy to use. He likes playing his Xbox games, goes on YouTube, and does his school work. It has an easy set-up and it's easy on the eyes, too. This Lenovo chromebook is the newer model than its older model that looks the same, but with a different sku number. It's a great buy for entertainment and doing some work. It's not meant for heavy usage or heavy gaming, but so far it has held up pretty well. Charges quickly and stays charged for up to 8 to 10 hours, although depending on usage. Overall, it's worth the investment.

    Great temporary laptop

I got this laptop, because I was using a Dell Inspiron (AND I HATED IT) and I wanted something to hold me over, until I could afford the Lenovo X270 in August. This is a nifty little laptop. It is a bit slow, but that is to be expected since it has so little memory. I would suggest that if one is keeping it beyond a couple months, that they expand the RAM. For me, this laptop does everything I require of it and MS Office also works on it well, so I am satisfied. Although it is slow, I like it so much better then the Dell. It is light weight and portable, with a decent battery life. When I get the new one, I will hand this one off to one of my students. Also I could not beat the price of $190.00. Definitely worth it!

The salesman warned me that this computer was more the cheaper ones and it wouldn't be that good. He was right. I've only had this computer for a couple hours and I will be returning this tomorrow morning. It's so frustrating. It lags horribly and I haven't even loaded programs on it. I just loaded McAfee and it freezes, lags and have to constantly reboot it. Streaming Netflix has horrible quality. I guess you get what you pay for. It's a great price but not a good laptop. It's worth investing more money for a better laptop.

    Excellent choice for school

    |
    Posted .

I bought it for my kid so he can do school homework and expend some time in internet. I initially choose it because it was a chip option while I didn't have a budget for a new computer but now that he has been using it I believe it was an excellent choice. Very decent performance including all kind of MS Office usage, lot of YouTube videos and navigation. Obvious cons for an old guy like me is the lack of hard drive but my 11 year old kid is handling very well the storage with the Micro SD card (I had to buy) and tons of cloud storage from MS Office 365.
