    I like this laptop! But...

I like this laptop. I have been tried more expensive laptop too. (but these are more worse) such as SKU: 6128128) The hardver is working cool. Really quite and fast, love back-light ( keyboard should be better, a bit soft for me) Battery life really good. (thanks for i5-4210U and power manger) 2 negatives: Realtek audio don’t support any sound effects, surround, 5.1 and so on. The metal frame is poor design: after 2 weeks the pieces start flip over from each other. I share some picture about that. I talk with best buy & lenovo support too. They sad it is normal, but I could change it. I checked 3 new lenovo u430 too.. but it was same with them. All in consider it is MORE better than Toshiba E45T-B4204!!!

Some "premium" features packed in under $750

Sometimes you just need a laptop despite having a tablet. I thus decided to use my credit card points and buy U430 touch by Lenovo Note that there are two models for this laptop - this one has a i5 CPU with 8GB memory and the other one has i7 CPU with 4GB memory. It would have been great if they paired i7 with 8GB and boosted the price a little bit but it is what it is. Pros: 1) Not heavy at all if you are carrying it in your office bag or holding it along its edge. It weighs around 4.2 pounds. If you lift it from a corner, yes it'll obviously feel a bit heavy. But again, this is not Macbook air. 2) For some, a 13.3 is a slightly smaller screen for word processing, so 14 inch suites those better. 3) The build is very solid with metallic body. 4) The "chiclet" style keyboard with back-lighting is quite pleasing to type. 5) According to the Device Manager in Windows, this laptop does have a Solid State Hybrid Drive. Take it for what it is, but it just means slightly better performance than your traditional SATA hard drives. 6) Web camera is HD and very good even in reasonably lit rooms. 7) Touch-screen is a nice addition if you care about it. 8) Finally, the performance is more than satisfactory with i5 CPU and a whopping 8 GB memory. I am sure it'll hold up for at least another 6 years as long as you and keep it clean and strictly for business and multimedia, and handle with care. Cons: 1) This is not a hardcore gaming grade laptop but it is definitely more than enough for casual gaming. Check YouTube videos for Intel HD 4400 gaming performance for some latest hardcore games. 2) The screen is LED but does not use IPS technology that improves the viewing angles. The horizontal viewing angles are sufficient but vertical viewing angles could be better. 3) The touchpad is very good, but it is a bit too big and I found my left hand touching the corner of it from time to time. 4) Finally, I am not sure if I like or hate Windows 8.1 anymore. The "metro UI" is absolutely unnecessary and disturbing in laptops. I have used this OS for over a year now and still cannot get used to this tablet feature. There are tools out there that can disable Metro UI and make the OS look and feel like (a much faster) version of Windows 7.

Great laptop for work or play! Great price!

I bought this computer about a month ago, and it has made my life much easier! I haven't had a laptop since college (about 4 years ago) and required one for a new job and for pursuing my master's degree. I had a good budget, and didn't want anything cheap, but nothing so extravagant like a Mac. I know many people with Lenovo's and they all say they wouldn't buy any other brand of laptop. I have to say I agree now. This laptop has been vital to my new job and very happy with its abilities - battery life, storage, speed, display etc... If I had to give any negatives, I can only think of two: the mouse pad is really sensitive and I find myself zooming in and out of browsers unintentionally and opening apps that I didn't mean to. The other thing is the display is very nice, but way to bright for me - I suffer from migraines and very sensitive to light - so I had to set the resolution pretty low. And there is a good glare coming off the screen too, so hard to use outside. But that's it! I highly recommend this laptop.

Good overall laptop. decent speed and very quick startup and shutdown. sometimes it gets sluggish but a quick restart fixes that. I personally do not like the touchscreen but that is a personal preference. I have had to issues with the touchscreen. I also do not like the functionality of the touchpad but it is customizable to your preference. overall a pretty good laptop. I do not game or watch movies. I mainly use my laptop for writing papers and studying. It is lightweight and has a good battery life.

    good value for the money

This is my first personal purchase of a Lenovo. My daughter got one for college last year (U410) and loves it. I wanted something even lighter- but my budget did not stretch to $1000 plus. I looked at the U430 in a Best Buy store, and loved the specs and the responsive touch screen. I decided it was thin and light enough for my purposes (work laptop with some travel). I went online and found the same computer at bestbuy.com as open box for $50 less, with the OS upgraded to windows 8.1 and including a year of antivirus. So far I have used it mainly for data analysis and report writing, e-mails, facebook and viewing pictures. I love that office can be synced between my windows phone and this laptop. Also the touch feature makes scrolling and checking/ changing reports sooo much easier. Overall a great computer!

Great laptop and features at good price

    Posted .

This is my first laptop review after about 15 years of various laptops and desktops. I work in software development and I spent all day playing on computers. It's hard for me to get excited about a laptop, but I really love this thing. I was looking for a powerful, lightweight laptop with a display resolution > 1366X768 and a powerful processor at a good price. This laptop is it. First, it is very nice looking, much like an Apple device. The screen is beautiful and for 14" seems much bigger. The resolution at 1600X900 is perfect for the physical screen size. I wanted a hybrid drive so I could get the size without the cost of a full SSD. This has it and it seems very fast The CPU on passmark scores over 3500 which is pretty good for a laptop. I5 is not I7, but the price of this laptop is not >$1000. I've played with the device on battery and it does very well. I'd expect about 6 hours. Lenovo includes a power manager to extend battery life by only charging to 60% so I'm using this since I'm mostly plugged in. It is also very light. The 4.2 lbs is distributed very nicely and it is easy to carry. The backlit keyboard is great and can be easily turned on and off as needed. I often work at home in a dimly lit area and this feature is very appreciated. So, what else do you need in the price range? I spent hours (very many) at a bunch of stores trying to find the right device. I think I found it. So far I'm very happy.

Great computer, don't expect to run games

The computer itself starts up fast due to the solid state / hybrid drive which is really nice. The touch screen works quite well, and the keyboard feels solid and has a nice back-light function. The brightness doesn't ever get quite bright enough, even at it's brightest setting.. The touch pad seems that it is not built to be as solid as the keyboard but still works fine. I would like one more USB port, but the 3 that are on the pc work just fine. My main qualm with this computer isn't how it feels or looks but how it functions. I figured that a PC that I bought in 2014 at the $700 mark would be able to handle (even with intel-integrated graphics) a decent bit of video-processing. The reality is that this computer is most definitely not fit to play just about any modern video-game, even at lowest quality settings. In synopsis, it's a phenomenal office - PC with good portability, but shouldn't be bought with the intention to play any games.

I really like some features of this laptop such as: the backlit keyboard, windows 8, the speed of the laptop, the battery (I've gotten 8 hours) the touchscreen (sometimes kind of pointless but nonetheless a nice feature). Some things I can not stand about the laptop are: the shift key for the right hand is terrible. The laptop does not sit perfectly flat. There is a slight wobble when it is sitiing on a flat surface. The screen does not get as bright as I would like it too. The touchpad mouse is oversized for the laptop so when I type I accidentally tap the mouse. The 14" screen is a little small. Overall a great laptop.

    Sleek and responsive

Retired my S.O.'s previous U400 that served her well for a few years, this was a perfect replacement. The sleeker design is a definite update from the previous generation's apple-like design. More than enough ports for her use. Touchscreen is a nice addition to this rig. Not a fan of the new power port, just seems like it's a target for breakage, but we'll see how it goes. Not excited about the prospect of replacing a proprietary plug... Been working well for a couple months now, overall we're happy about it.

So, I really wanted the Yoga Pro but when I spoke to our tech guy at work, I realized that I needed more memory and capacity. I also need a bigger screen for my work. That said, this laptop is still pretty sleek and light. It doesn't have a disk drive, but I'm not sure who uses those anymore, anyway! The touchscreen is cool. The lighted keypad is cool. One weird aspect is that you really don't get complete directions in the box. Some things are not self-explanatory (like how to activate the backlit keypad) and I had to hunt online. I don't have a too much of a problem with Windows 8 but there is a learning curve, just in terms of comfort and usability. It's also annoying that Chrome can't just be one of the selections at Start. Overall, it's a good deal for the money and I hope to get at least as much use out of this as my old Dell (which started coming apart at 3 years).

    Excellent Laptop, Highly Recommended

I have enjoyed getting to know this new laptop, performs extremely well. Quick startup is a great feature, seems to have plenty of RAM to handle many open programs, very fast Internet speed. Needs a dedicated Insert button, this feature really missed. battery capacity somewhat limited, will know more after I have had the laptop longer. Biggest improvement (and reason for only 4 stars rating) would be for Best Buy to hold classes or online tutorials in 8.1 and new Office--new owner needs some education in the many changes. Overall very satisfied!

A great alternative to the Yoga 2.0

    Posted .

All summer I was looking at the Lenovo Yoga 2.0. But that computer was about $1,000. When I found this laptop I was over the moon. It does EVERYTHING I wanted the Yoga for, except convert. Throughout my use, I have not ever felt like I needed that. I can have tons of apps open at once without slowing down anything, downloads take a second, and the plot screen is killer. I would definitely recommend this laptop to students. Occasionally it won't automatically connect to the wifi, but if I go and turn of wifi, and turn it back on, it works perfectly. The touch screen makes a lot of things easier. I have never had any touch problems. And the computer stays really cool without the use of a lap-desk. It's an amazing product.

    I love this laptop

I have been using this laptop for four months, and I'm totally satisfied. I use it for email, surfing the Net, storing music, and productivity tasks, such as lightweight spreadsheet and intensive word processing. It is more than adequate in all areas. (I am not experiencing any of the wi-fi issues that others talk about). Thanks to the 8B of RAM, it's fast. (Be sure to buy the model that has 8GB.) It has a rich, sharp display The keyboard is comfortable, after you get used to the shallow touch. It has long battery life (and the battery is replaceable, which is not necessarily the case on laptops these days). The speaker is adequate for general needs, although audiophiles will want an external speaker. I can't believe how fast it boots up! The lack of a CD drive is no problem: it's easy to attach an external drive. The three USB ports are enough for all my needs. I bought an adaptor to attach my external VGA monitor through the HDMI port. My only complaint is that the touchpad is only adequate. I find it stiff and clunky, and I much prefer using a wireless mouse (which performs excellently). I think a lot of laptops suffer from this -- the touchpad on my Acer Aspire was even worse. It offers a set of very handy Function keys. The one for lighting up the keyboard is especially convenient: Just press Fn Spacebar. Thanks, Lenovo. I truly love using your laptop!

I love this laptop! It's beautiful! I love the silver with black backlit keys, they're fabulous! The Lenovo backlit keys are the best on the market & a new addition to this updated model of the Lenovo U430 Touch 14". The original model already had great reviews, but then they lit up the keyboard & improved the wireless card which were both big selling points for me! They also upgraded to Windows 8.1. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase & would absolutely recommend this to a friend!

Great light-weight Windows 8 ultrabook for cost

    |
    Posted .

Keyboard (back lighting is a nice touch), design, and sound are all fantastic. Windows 8 works seamlessly with a touchscreen computer. The speed and wireless connectivity are great, and it is very sleek and light-weight - a great laptop for students. One thing that I would change is that the brightness of the screen seems either too dark or too light, and the colors are a bit off for some displays (a very specific example: the Google Calendar blues/purples almost all look the same on the screen for some reason). A tiny quip, but worth mentioning. Battery life could be better (~4-5 hours) but it's an awesome laptop!

    Very good consumer laptop

    |
    Posted .

Good conveniences such as backlit keyboard and USB 3.0 slot. Also looks and feels good to the touch, so using it is a pleasant experience. Make sure to check out the LAN connection (wired LAN) as soon as you buy the laptop - it didn't seem to work right out of the box. The laptop could be a little lighter, but then again, it's average weight for its class, so can't complain too loudly. The Windows 8.1 touch sw works nicely.

    Great design with some drawbacks

    |
    Posted .

Computer works great, but it has an outdated wi-fi card that severely limits the throughput you'll get on a wireless connection to about 20-30 megabits. If you predominantly use it as a desktop replacement and can go with an Ethernet connection, you can easily get around that issue. But it does hamper it's mobile usefulness.

    Great little PC laptop

I'm an Apple fan girl, so I generally hate the fact that I also need a PC for my work as a college distance learning computer tutor. That said, I am pleasantly surprised that I actually like this little touchscreen laptop. It's fast, quiet, battery lasts a decent amount of time, and it is capable of doing everything an online student or instructor needs to do out of the box. Yippee! I've finally found something I can in good conscience recommend to friends dead set on a Windows laptop. It's my first Lenovo, and it won't be my last. Cheers to the only PC computer I haven't hated since I bought my first Mac in 2010. That's a pretty decent review from a die hard Mac lover.
