A fantastic system for basic computing.

Lenovo - 15.6" IdeaPad Laptop - 4GB Memory - 320GB Hard Drive First off - any of the Windows Power-Users that want to process photos & do some serious multitasking - Stop right here. This is not the tool for you. Go look for another AMD Lenovo product with a regular quad core APU/CPU. Will serve you much better. Now on to the review: As an IT professional by trade: I was simply looking for a no-nonsense system to throw in my bag for examining my client's web presence, servers & networks. And to this end I have been very much pleased. The case looks a little flimsy when you look at online photos - but don’t be deceived - this is a rather sturdy aluminum chassis and actually looks rather spiffy. The keyboard is a breeze to use - and has a numeric keypad as well (A nice feature at this price) and the display is exceptionally crisp and bright. Only fault I find is that the track-pad is touchy, and although this can be adjusted your experience will be much better with a wireless mouse. The speakers are EXCEPTIONAL for a sub $500.00 laptop - and equipped with Dolby technology. Battery life for this model has been rather nice - am getting an average of 5-7 hours when NOT using media - otherwise still runs without issue for over 4 hours. While this is not intended as a multi-tasking machine, it does rather well managing several office documents, outlook & a browser window right out of the box with ease. With Video playback however, it's very difficult to perform multi-tasking until you make the $20.00 investment in an extra 4GB of RAM. As the machine comes with one open RAM slot - this is a rather easy upgrade: and the result is a rather speedy little machine that can handle most tasks for the average user to include minor graphics editing, and use of Windows Movie Maker. A note on the Windows Operating system. This machine came loaded with Windows 7 which is a fine operating system, and there is little need to upgrade to Windows 8. However - since this comes (at least until January 31, 2013) with a $14.99 upgrade to Windows 8 - I thought I would take advantage of the option. WOW!!!!! Although the new OS has a moderate learning curve and I would not recommend it to those doing a ton of advanced home networking or for business use, this makes such a change for the better with this machine. Is much speedier, graphics are even more eye pleasing and there are so many options for the average user that it's impossible to pass up. In conclusion: This Lenovo - 15.6" IdeaPad Laptop will serve the average user well - especially for the user who wants to use office software, view or listen to media and do internet surfing and basic computing tasks. With a simple RAM and Windows 8 upgrade, you get a great little machine that will compete with systems well above it's paygrade. I always loved the old IBM machines - and Lenovo is carrying on the torch rather well.

    Great Laptop for the Price

As soon as I got this I put Ubuntu/Linux on it and it seems to be completly compatible with all aspects. The screen is great on this. It is not meant for games or anything like that. It is great though for doing all things related to the internet. I have an Ipad for all of my media consumption but if you ever tried to do a spreadsheet on an Ipad it is very difficult. So I keep this for doing any type of light production work that my Ipad is not made to do. No use breaking the bank to get a laptop and not use it to its fullest potential. And of course Lenovo makes all great products.

I didn't know what I was getting into - the Lenovo is an IdeaPad, which, I guess is less than a laptop, but I love it!. It is lighter, faster, and more trouble-free than the Toshiba laptop that it replaced. So far, I am very impressed and would take the Lenovo any day over the Toshiba. I did not have to disable a bunch of scrap-ware, I installed all of my software with no problems, and it is running very fast. Downside - you'll need an external drive if you plan to store tons of audio, photos, or video... my IdeaPad came with only 275 GB of disk.

Since it didn't have an external standard microphone input I had to buy a new USB style headset to use with it.

Happy with my Lenovo, I bought one for Mom!

I am very happy with the performance of my Lenovo. I carry it back and forth to work and it tends to get heavy on the longer commutes. I bought an older model and was very happy, all around, with its performance and portability. So when my mother needed a new computer, I thought of a new Lenovo laptop as being the most cost effective ~$300. I ended up purchasing 2 new laptops and gave my daughter my old one! Now everyone is happy! The monitor can glare a bit in bright lights but tipping it forward or aft gets rid of glare without loosing to much resolution. Overall I am very happy with my laptops!

    great laptop for the price

I have had this laptop for about 2 months now; so far, so good. I originally bought a Lenovo that was slightly cheaper, just under $300 and had the AMD2 processor, which I found to be too slow, so for a little more money, I exchanged for this one with AMD A6, huge difference. Due to the economy, I am in the process of re-locating for a job oppurtunity and currently living in a hotel with wi-fi. Bought this laptop for email and basic computing. It has lived up to my expectations and then some. For the money can't go wrong!

Good laptop except it had trouble turning on

    Posted .

I wanted a Lenovo laptop. This one fit my budget and needs. I got it home and it would not turn on. I took it back to the store, they were able to turn it on without the battery in it (just plugged in). I exchanged it for the same model laptop. Same thing, had trouble turning on. I had to press the power button for 10 sec. Then that stopped working: I had to remove the battery and then press for 10 seconds. This is ridiculous. A laptop should turn on easily. Other than that, I have had no problems with it. I loved the long battery life (6-7 hrs). It doesn't attract fingerprints. The touchpad is very sensitive. It can be a little annoying. The body felt a little cheap and plastic to me, but you get what you pay for. Unfortunately I had to exchange this laptop for an Acer. My new laptop is faster any way. Too bad...I trust the Lenovo brand but it seems like this model has problems with the battery.

Have had several issues with it. The mouse pad is extremely sensitive and it tends to tab back automatically throughout typing to the beginning of the conversation. Runs slow, at least in my experience. Takes a long time for things to load.

    Good for some things

    Posted .

To start of with I would normally not buy a product at this price level but as it was from lenovo which I have been buying the ThinkPad line for years I decided to give it a try (Although this was for my gf). I bought a cheaper laptop because I knew she would only be using it for pintrest and netflix. Out of the box this thing SUCKS opening a browser will send your CPU usage to 80+ and trying to add/remove programs will make the computer freeze for short periods of time throughout the process. After removing all the bloat ware on the computer It runs ok but will still freeze often about once every 2 hours under normal use such as web browsing. After having enough of this I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS hoping for something that is usable. without anything configured it runs 12.04 OK but still will freeze for no reason. After switching it from unity to GNOME however you will not have a computer that runs just fine. It it not the fastest but no more problems with freezing after switching to GNOME 2. luckly a PPA for netflix came out and she can now watch netflix just fine on ubuntu also. Overall I don't recommend this unless you know how to configure a Linux OS such as ubuntu or fedora. Unfortunately I could not convince her to try arch linux which would run like a beast on this. If the above makes no sense when you are reading it you will not want to buy with laptop as although it does look nice and have an awesome price point you will quickly become frustrated.

It was fun at first but too wild

    Posted .

At first it was really fun but then realized it was too sensitive, I would be doing something and the window would just fly away and it was hard to find it to bring it back. Navigating through was hard and I decided Apple products are easier to navigate through and much more intuitive so I brought it back and got an iPad.

Overall it's just ok. My biggest problem is the slowness of Internet Explorer (it not my service if that's what you are thinking, all other computers in the house work fine). Mouse buttons don't always work either.
