    The TRUTH about the processor....

    Posted .

There has been some argument over whether or not this machine is the correct specs. Here is the specs on the box and also the specs that are listed on the BB site. Clearly this can be confusing. The accelerated processor may reach speeds of 2.4Ghz, but the base speed is 1.8Ghz. So if you are replacing another computer, you will want to make sure that you are replacing it with an equal or better processor. BB needs to make sure that the listings for processor specs are consistent. Most of the time, the base speed is listed first, then followed by the highest clock speed if it is an accelerated processor. In the case of this listing.... they only listed the highest clock speed. This would is like posting the top speed of a car at 120mph.... only to find out that the car is really a Ford Focus Wagon. it may go that fast, but for the most part, it's just a four -cylinder economy car. The bottom line is that this is a cheap computer with a lot of storage space... (much like the Ford Focus Wagon I mentioned.) I attached pictures of the specs from BB and the specs that you will see on the box. Decide for yourself. As for me, I took mine back and bought something else.

    1 star for being misleading

When I ordered this laptop, it was advertised as having 6GB of ram. When it arrived, it only had 4GB of ram. I see that some other recent reviewers have had this same problem and now the product description on this website has been changed to 4GB, along with my receipt. So now I have 2 receipts, the original with 6GB and now a new one with 4GB. **As for this laptop's functionality as a 4GB machine, I will say that it still seems like a decent laptop for average everyday tasks. Although I have only used it for the duration of one evening, I did not experience any problems with it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice laptop at a low price, such as, students (with the purchase of Microsoft Office). As for the gamers out there, it might be able to handle some light gaming, but it is not exactly a gaming quality laptop. It does have a lightweight/thin design and seems to run quietly. Unfortunately, I will be returning this laptop tomorrow though, only because I need more ram. I will include a screenshot of the real specs for others who are curious.

    Good Value

I need to qualify this by saying that I've only had this laptop for 4 days. So, I can't speak to long term quality issues. That said, I have compared this to the HP G7 that I had for over 3 years. Clearly, the physical quality of this laptop is superior. The keyboard has a much more solid feel and the case seems good as well. The performance is probably about the same as my G7. Given that this was less expensive, about $100 less, I'd say it's an excellent value. I really like the slim profile and the processor seems to run a lot cooler. I don't do serious computing and no gaming so I can't speak to that. It does a good job of streaming Youtube and other internet functions are good. So far I'm very satisfied with this laptop. For someone checking email and streaming videos I'd say this is a very good deal. I have done a little with Excel and that ran just fine. I have yet to burn CDs or DVDs so I may update this later if I can.

a robust laptop for a low price

    Posted .

I have purchased many lap tops in the past several years. Always Lenovo has come as the best out of all, especially considering the ruggedness and value for money. Also they have given me the least headaches. This Lenovo is also uo to that standard. at times I felt the video player (online on google chrome) was sluggish. But once the cache is cleared, it works perfectly. I am pretty happy with this.

    Great Laptop for the money!

I purchased this model when the website stated it was a 6GB version. After the initial letdown about it only being a 4GB version I have since found that it's a very lightweight fast laptop. It's a great laptop for most uses and I have tested its gaming potential, although that fell short. Best Buy customer service has been great overall and this laptop does everything I'd want to do.

    Happy with it--good, basic laptop

    |
    Posted .

First of all, the price on this can't be beat at $279.99. For the specs, I don't think there is anything better out there. But its not a high-end gamer, just a basic, decent internet and word processing machine. Watching videos and doing basic stuff is no problem. If that's what you are looking for, than buy up. If you want to do bigger and better things, get a machine with better specs (and a much higher price!).

    Great laptop overall/minor screen issue

    |
    Posted .

My only complaint with the Lenovo laptop is how flimsy the sides are around the screen. I already had to return one after a month due to the screen having lines going across and just touching the sides of the screen made it worse, which I believe broke from where I touched the sides and pushed open in the same spot every day. So now I'm really careful on where I touch and push it open and do it very gently. But overall if they could just reinforce that a little better the computer itself is fast and easy to use and comes with a lot of apps. Has ample storage and still sounds great for music. Crisp, clear screen when its not broken, great definition. Keyboard is nice and comfortable but the mouse is a little touchy. You'll just have to adjust settings on your mouse until you're comfortable with it. Extremely thin and fits perfectly in my desk drawer. The DVD button to open the tray is a little touchy. May not always open and have to push harder for it to open.

A very good economy laptop. Avoid prior reviews.

    Posted .

First off, this is not a big desktop replacement. It is not powerful enough to be used like that. But it is a very good economy laptop. It does everything I need and then some. If you need additional RAM, you can get it for a lot less than the cost that is added to a 6GB Lenovo laptop. The two other reviews have NOTHING to do with this product at all. They are complaining about issues involving the Best Buy website information, not the laptop itself. They never used this laptop.

a very good laptop that shouldnt be underestimated

OK let me start by saying this is going to be a real laptop review from a person that has used this laptop longer then a day or a week. I've had this laptop for two months, and it Is a great laptop. It's built very sturdy and feels solid. The sound is very loud and crisp, even has it's own hint of bass. IT's Dolby digital by the way The screen is bright, vibrant, and beautiful, and I love the HDMI port feature. The laptop does have speedy internet, that's faster then the quad core Toshiba Pentium's. Now a few drawbacks that I don't like, and which resulted in me exchanging it. The laptop is fairly fast but not as fast as I would've like it to be. It's definitely not slow though, nor no beastly champ though. I went and bought me a dell instead. Also all the preloaded things that's on there. I'm like ok what do indeed all this for? lol. And the battery power is not quite good. And no backlit keyboard. But this laptop is definitely worth the money, if you want to budget and ok with fairly ok speeds. .

    Decent Laptop, great price

I picked up this laptop as a last-minute "backup" as my existing Lenovo of 4 years got it's charging jack yanked to the point that it would sometimes charge and sometimes not and I was going out of town for 2 weeks and really needed a reliable laptop for my business thinking it would only be a 2 week replacement. Well 2 months later and I'm still using it. I got this laptop as a "floor model" for around $300 (or less?). I really liked the extended keyboard that includes a dedicated number pad. The screen is big and clear. It's speedy enough, has 1 Terabyte hard drive space, 4 GB of Ram, bluetooth, HDMI, etc., etc. The ONLY thing that I've been disappointed with so far is the keyboard is not as nice to type on as most other keyboards that I've used. .feels kind of cheap. . .the spacebar in particular. . .if you don't give it a FIRM hit, it doesn't space which results in lots of backspacing. . .so when I'm at home I hook up a dedicated monitor and keyboard and bypass the issue. . .otherwise I can deal with it. . .my other Lenovo ( Ideapad) was 4-5 times as expensive! I expected a lot less for $300. . .it's not a top-of-the-line laptop but it does what I need it to do, speedy enough and again, can't beat the price!

Beautiful, works great, with a hiccup

    Posted .

I use this laptop mainly for word processing and streaming video. The screen is lovely, the keyboard def gets the job done, and I like the track pad. The only problem, and this is major for me, is that the wireless connection is lacking. The issue isn't with my internet provider or router. I've bought a wireless repeater with very little improvement. I've tested my roommate's brand new non-lenovo laptop with the exact same specs, and hers is lightening fast, no buffering. I'm probably going to end up exchanging it for another hoping I got a dud. And if that doesn't work, I'll have to get a different laptop which I hate to do b/c I really like this one.

    Good for the basics...

I would probably give this computer 5 stars if I were using it for basic computing. The look and feel is awesome, the keyboard is great, the speakers are really good, it's thin light weight and has good battery life. The only thing is the processor is a bit slow as it lags a bit when running multiple programs, or heavy programs like photo editing software - but I guess that can be fixed with more RAM. Other than that, it seems to be a really good computer so far. I'm really liking Windows 8 quite a bit. Don't knock it until you try it... believe me, I was on of those who would knock it! Oh, and for the price.. pssssh, you really can't beat it.

My wife and I needed a new computer because our last one took an extra long nap. This little Lenovo was very affordable and has a lot of storage. It is very fas and with the 4 gigs of ram it can handle almost any Program we throw at it. We use our computer to do a lot of long distance healing of people and have had great response from it. I would recommend this computer to anybody that is looking for an inexpensive solution to any type of Internet usage, be it a pro or a beginner. The only thing I don't like is Windows 8. Not very user friendly and quite confusing until you get used to it.

I added an SSD and 4GB more RAM to this laptop and it really seems to perform well. Display is on the low end, however, as there is some noticeable dithering on occasion. For the price, it's a fine surfing/social media machine.

    Good Laptop For The Price

I bought this as a Christmas present for my wife since her old laptop was over 8 years old. She's definitely not a power user so for her this laptop is ideal. She takes lots of pictures so the large 1 TB hard drive is a big plus for photo downloads. (Of course we save our data to a back up drive on a a regular basis.) If all you need is a basic laptop you won't go wrong with this choice.

Good enough for what I need.

    Posted .

This laptop is good enough for what I needed it for- school. I can have multiple tabs open and more than one program running without it running terribly slow. I was warned against Windows 8 and almost didn't get this computer because of it, but honestly I really don't see the issue with W8. So far this laptop has been pretty easy to figure out and I'm happy with it. I do have one issue with mine, hopefully I got a lemon. The trackpad freezes and I cannot use it to control my mouse for up to ten minutes at a time. Usually it lasts less than five minutes. Not a huge deal to me because I use a wireless laptop mouse, but it is aggravating. I should have returned and exchanged this one, but I missed the window for return and will just have to deal with it.

    Good computer, had some issues

    Posted .

I just recently purchased this computer, and it arrived a few days ago. I was quite excited. I opened it up, started it up, everything went very well. I downloaded a few things, browsers, installed a driver for my headset that I use, a game or so (very light games). It wasn't slow at all, unless of course I was running a large amount of applications at once, but that's expected. A while later, I turned off my computer, because I was taking it somewhere. I turned it back on, and it said it was Updating. It was stuck on 7% for hours.. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the computer or with the update it was trying to give. I turned the computer off, because I saw that there wasn't another option. It started back up, and did the same thing.. Finally I manoeuvred my way through start up, and got to the page of Advanced Troubleshooting or whatever.. I tried every other option, but nothing worked. Now I'm restarting my PC fully to how it was. I think I'm just going to disable automatic updating, so that I don't risk this happening again. Being that I only got it a few days ago, I didn't lose anything. If it seems to be working fine again, I'll update this post with a higher rating. Overall, I'd say it's a good computer aside from the problems that I have had. Again, I'm not even sure that it's the computer's fault, just wanted to put that out there.

Decent Quality and Specs for everyday computing

    |
    Posted .

I'm generally not one to stick with a specific brand of laptop. But this is my 2nd Lenovo (5 if you count work place provided), and they have yet to let me down when it comes to build quality. This one is no exception, it is Sleek, Thin and Light, yet does not feel cheap or flimsy. It has a decent set of ports and specifications, but it's not going to set any performance records by any stretch of the imagination. However, if you're looking for something for daily, general computing, this would be good option for the price. Lastly, unlike other reviewers, I found the description and specifications to be accurate.

I like fast machines, so you know where I'm coming from. I feel that the bottle neck on this one is the hard drive. It's a very capable machine for a large percent of users. The big windows updates take a while. It boots fairly quickly though. For the price you really can't complain. Compared to other machines at the same price I would certainly recommend this one.
