Good computer.. do "Fresh Start" and upgrade parts

This is a decent computer, after some minimal work (depends on your experience with IT). We bought this computer for my company (under a different login) about 2 weeks ago, basically to do VERY simple tasks. We will run a few different shipping programs, do web browsing/email, and some file shares.. again, nothing that will really tax the computer. It works great for that, but I can't say how bigger programs would run. PROS: -CAN BE a pretty quick computer.. see recommendations below. -Small form factor/lightweight. Can fit anywhere -Inexpensive compared to others -Looks nice, and seems somewhat sturdy -Can add more RAM CONS: -No internal fan... hmmm.... Sure there is a very very small one on top of the processor, but nothing pushing or pulling the hot air out of the case. This will SLOW the computer down or make it crash as well. I'm surprised the manufacturer didn't add one, since it probably would avoid a lot of people going through warranty/call centers for an overheated/malfunctioning computer. -Wifi antenna/connector seems delicate, but I haven't had issues with it connecting yet. The antenna panel is oddly placed, and blocks anything being inserted into the PCI Express slot. Once moved, it leaves an open hole in the case, letting excess dirt/dust in, but you can at least use the express slot after. -Only 1 mount for 2.5" hard drive/only 2 SATA plugs. The CD drive uses one SATA, and you can "technically" place a second hard drive, but you will lose the CD drive. RECOMMENDATIONS: -First things first, clean off the bloatware ASAP. Windows 10 has something built into the software, called "Fresh Start". This re-installs windows 10 without most of the 3rd party apps from Lenovo or other mysterious companies. This will improve speeds drastically. Go through the initial setup of your computer, and Google search how to do it. It'll take you 5-10 mins, then walk away as it installs for an hour. -Add AT LEAST another 4GB RAM stick ($15-$20). 4GB just isn't enough for most tasks. Well worth the effort and inexpensive cost! -Add some sort of internal fan IF you can find the right size. I have to re-measure the mount holes, but fans can usually be inexpensive. The motherboard already has 2 empty plugs and 2 mounting points on the case, specifically for fans. This will extend the life of the computer greatly. -Move the Wifi antenna panel if you have any desire to use the PCI Express slot.. again, it was originally placed in a weird spot. You can also get a better Wifi Card if you are having issues.. You can use one of the PCI express slots or just put it back into the same M.2 slot. All-in-all.. For the price, the computer isn't bad. This IS NOT made to be a high-end, lightning-fast computer. However,if you buy it knowing that, then you'll be happy. You don't have to use any of my recommendations, but I would at least increase the RAM if you want to do anything on the computer a little quicker. Only 4GB of RAM just shouldn't be a standard in 2019.

I bought this computer for basic web browsing and to store family documents, photos, and videos. Existing reviews made this computer seem like a good value option for a non-gaming computer. After basic windows configuration and installing Google Chrome, a reboot would literally take over 5 minutes. After entering my password - I stared at a blank screen for 3 minutes waiting on the desktop to appear. I get this is a value machine, but that is unrealistic... and this is before adding programs/apps and loading up the drive with files for storage. On top of this - it was very slow to respond. I would click an option in settings and literally 15 seconds later the window would open and the computer acknowledge the action. Perhaps I got a bad one... but this is going back to the store... today! Based on my experience - I would look at other options for your value PC. FYI - Not claiming to be an expert - but I am no beginner on PC's. I am a programmer, work on a work PC all day, and have built multiple machines on my own. Sometimes the issue is between the keyboard and the back of the chair - but this aint one of those times. Best of luck!

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo IdeaCentre 310s desktop. It should not take 5 minutes for this configuration to boot up. Be sure you have configured Windows 10 according to the directions offered during the initial activation. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Lenovo

Computer was exactly what I needed. Worked fine for about 6 months. The following is a copy I sent to Lenovo in response to their review request. "Thought problem was Windows update. Microsoft ran remote diagnostics, said CPU issue. You charged me $69 and ran three remote diagnostics. First two were to have resolved any issues, they didn't. The third said there was a problem and to send the computer for repair. You only contacted me twice, one by my requesting a call back and the last by a Case Manager. I had to call several times to find out status. Finally told bad CPU, no motherboard, none in inventory and didn't know if or when one would be available. Was told issue was forwarded to Case Manager but I was never contacted. Called to follow up and was told it would be forwarded again to a Case Manager. The only saving grace in this matter was the Case Manager was able to have the old hard drive returned to me". I would recommend this computer with the above caveat.

We are sorry to hear that you had issues with your Lenovo IdeaCentre 310s desktop. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. Good little desktop for everyday things

It's a decent little desktop for everyday things. It could have used 4 more GB of ram to really work. I'm pushing the limits of everyday use by running GNS3 networking labs (Cisco Routers under Dynamips) and Vmware guests in it. It does have the AMD-V for virtualization. It kind of slows down when the 4 GB memory gets close to maxing out. Firefox web browser likes to eat a lot of memory especially on complex web sites like Facebook. It's hanging in there though. I heard it doesn't have cooling fans ... but I haven't seen temperature warnings like I saw on my old machine. Even while watching HD video content. It's playing movies and videos just fine. I like that it had HDMI for audio and video right out of the box. I never used Bluetooth and I don't put it on WiFi but it has both of those as well. I've had it about a month now ... and I'm keeping it. :-) :-)

I bought this desktop computer for my office, I am self employed and figured that it would do the job for the basic everyday work stuff (spreadsheets, email, web browsing). It does, but the computer is really slow and quite frankly, very noisy. The fan is ALWAYS on and you can hear the hard drive turning every time. And I only have the Edge web browser open on a single page and one spreadsheet or word document at a time. I should have known because it has an AMD processor and it is not as easy to know if it is a fast or slow one, like with Intel where you can see if it's i3, i5 or i7. I can recommend it for a high school or university student, but they might be disappointed as well. The good thing is that I can upgrade the RAM and maybe that will speed it up.

Bought this when it was on sale for $279.99. I chose the Lenovo brand because at my company, we use Lenovo laptops. Initial setup was easy, and it fulfills all my basic needs (browsing, Microsoft Office - especially for Word and Excel, and iTunes). This PC also supports dual screen monitors, which is quite useful for work related purposes, but make sure you have the right cables to connect them to the PC. Also, I'm still deciding if I should continue with McAfee or consider the Trend Micro antivirus that Best Buy provides. My only real gripe at this PC is sometimes opening up Word or Excel can be kind of slow (maybe because of the existing file I am opening and its size). It is also slightly slow when opening up Google Chrome. Other than that, this is very good for the price I paid for at $279.99

I needed to replace my nonagenarian mother's desktop PC with its XP operating system that was glacially slow. And, I needed to keep everything simple and familiar. Her only significant requirements were for using email and Internet surfing. I was able to easily set up this very inexpensive computer and show her how to operate it. We were able to use her old HD monitor, too. I'm sure this small PC is suitable for many other applications, so I can give it a good recommendation.

I basically use this system to store my digital photos, check email, and watch youtube videos and netflix while I am hanging out in my dining room and kitchen. I have a little boy that uses it for his school work and he loves to use it too! Great entry level system for basic functionality and light use.

I run a computer repair shop and sometimes customers want me to get them a new machine instead of repairing their old Vista-era clunkers. This particular Lenovo has been a godsend. Paired with a cheap 240GB SSD (also available at Best Buy!) and a fresh Windows 10 Home install from scratch, they are frankly amazing for "budget" desktops. I have several very happy customers because of these things. It doesn't hurt that they're both stylish and slim. Highly recommended!

The IdeaCentre is perfect for my family's purposes...basic internet research, office stuff (finance, documents, presentations, etc.), and some small time games. We do not stream movies or do any online gaming so there was no need for advanced graphics or such...but, from what I've seen doing the basic stuff, this machine could keep up if needed. The size is right and I got our computer off the floor and on the shelf minimizing wiring and messy set-up.

It is a product for limited usage. . Quality and product are good but remember it by design is not a top end computer. However if you are looking for something with a low price level to perform basic tasks for example in a lake home you visit on weekends it is worth a look. I put Office 365 to include Access and it performs all of the products of 365 with no problem.
