    Excellent Basic All-in-One

    Posted .

I purchased the Lenovo C460 to replace an HP tower running Vista. I like the Lenovo All-in-One design, a compact unit that does most everything the old tower does without taking so much space. The Intel Pentium CPU is fast enough for my basic use (no gaming), and the screen is gorgeous, but the touch screen seems more of a gimmick than a needed option, in my opinion. I went with a wired keyboard and mouse, to avoid replacing batteries every month or so. I have a Lenovo laptop that convinced me Lenovo products are reliable, and the C460 has been so far. But the built-in speakers are small and therefore not that great (no bass), so would need an external set for most sound purposes. Windows 8.1 is strange at first, but I am getting used to it and it seems to have all the functions I need, although it lacks a feature I liked on Vista, the Sidebar with gadgets. Lenovo adds some software (as all vendors do) that I don't bother with since Windows handles my needs. Overall, a good looking, space saving, lower priced PC that performs well for basic uses (internet, streaming, word processsor, etc.).

Much Easier to Use than Anticipated!

    Posted .

This is first foray into Win 8.1 after die hard XP / Win7 fan. Setup was very easy for main administrator account because I already had a hotmail account from years back that I was not using. I needed second account for grandson's homework but had to set up a second email so I could download to that account from the app store. All in all, not too tough to change if you are accustomed to a tablet but still a definite learning curve in comparison to Win 7. The computer itself has performed flawlessly and seems a little faster than my old desktop (I3 core) but that is probably due to less bloatware. Networking is a breeze and recognized my WiFi network completely. Copied over 100GB of data from multiple older computers within a couple of hours without hard wiring any of it. As a side note, my 8yr old grandson operates the touchscreen for everything much faster than I can use a mouse from what he already new from second grade (lol). The entire unit has saved a ton of space in my desk area. Be aware to leave space on the right for the DVD to open. The stand is very secure and holds the monitor securely in place while using the touch screen. I did replace the mouse immediately with a wireless to not have the wire laying there but left the wired keyboard. Overall, very happy with decision to upgade to touchscreen and Win 8.1. Even old dogs got to learn new stuff sometimes.

I actually have 3 of these, one for my home and two for my business. I am very satisfied with them. They are easy to navigate and the HD screen is perfect for graphics work. I previously owned Dell computers at work and a Sony for my personal desk top. After purchasing the Lenovos, I'll nevwer go back.

Appears to be a well-designed all in one computer

I am very impressed with this All In One Computer. It is seems to be well packaged in a compact space, with a good looking, large screen and a well designed and easily attached base - a much better base than what Apple has on their All In One Computers. In fact, while this computer was acquired for use by the rest of my family - I use a Mac - I am impressed enough with the computer that I would almost be willing to give up my Mac for it (and that's a big admission on my part) - if it wasn't for the fact that I would be stuck with having to use Windows. The only complaints I have about the computer, in fact, are actually Windows-based complaints - I have no complaints in regard to the computer itself.

Perfect for our remote video visits with mom.

I set this up for my mother-in-law, who suffers with Alzheimers. She is in an assisted living facility and we are away traveling during the summer. We wanted an easy to operate device for her aides to video call us so we can see and hear her. She cannot use it herself so I configured it so there are only the things they need. It boots to a minimal Start screen where her music, videos, pictures, and Skype are one touch easy. The camera, microphone, and speakers all work great. The keyboard and mouse are stowed out of the way. It looks just like a TV on her dresser. While I was writing this, we got a call. I cannot tell you what joy that brings to us!

Much better than my old one

Faster, cheaper, a touch screen with a lot more memory than I'm use to because there is only so much you can do with ancient technology. I love it so far. Although, it does sometimes take a minute to register that I've touched it and if the link I'm touching is too small I have to use a mouse because it won't register it as a link and thinks it is just a word or picture that I want to copy or save.

    Getting used to Win 8

    |
    Posted .

    - I needed a new computer for my Grad work, basic internet and word processing. Also basic power to log into a virtual environment (VMWare) -Win 8 has a learning curve. I am glad this one is touch screen otherwise I would clearly be frustrated navigating through Win 8 -I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard, so now I only have the power cable and Cat 5 cable. -Wish I could have gotten Win 7 on this, could have made the first month of owning the computer more enjoyable. I understand Microsoft has to compete with Apple but Win 8 is a step backwards.

This computer has been perfect for my Mother who is elderly and really only uses for email, checking her accounts, playing solitaire, and surfing the web a little. She absolutely loves the large, clear screen and the keyboard and mouse too.

Getting used to my new computer

    |
    Posted .

I'm getting used to my new computer. I do like it, however, it's going to take awhile and a few calls to the Geek Squad before I'm comfortable with the software packages. I'm disappointed in the keyboard. It's smaller than my last one and I find it difficult to keep up with my typing. Space bar does not always work with my typing speed. Words run together.

My purchasing experience was good; however, I purchased the Geek squad service for $99 and I can't go to their website using my member number. I don't know if I have zeros or the letter o. I have four of these. I have tried typing the member number different ways. I'll have to try again . . . or come into the store. They have sent me a couple of e-mails, so I know my subscription was processed correctly.
