Good overall machine, some standard Win 8 issues

    Posted .

Purchased the machine at clearance price. Nice looking, fast, easy setup. After a couple of days I decided to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Immediately lost wireless access, which was not a major problem because I used Gigabit Ethernet anyway. The wireless problem is common across PCs from multiple vendors, search the internet and you will see lots of forum posts regarding this. The problem, may be fixed now with the latest update from Microsoft; it is now fixed on my Lenovo G505 laptop that was experiencing periodic drops before the update, but it did not correct the issue on this PC. This machine simply disabled the wireless. I tried almost everything suggested in settings on multiple forums, nothing seemed to work Finally I found the Windows 7 driver on Lenovo's website and tried that; the problem went away, and has not returned. Hopefully MS is addressing this issue with Realtec, the manufacturer of my wireless on this PC and my laptop. Otherwise, I see very few issues with this machine. Good basic PC, probably not for gamers, but I do very little gaming. The stock version came with 4Gb RAM, I found a great price on a 4Gb stick and maxed it out. I also have a spare 8Gb flash drive attached using ReadyBoost, which may not be necessary, but I see some occasional activity with it, and it also seemed to speed up the machine during some heavy use. I was able to add dual monitors using the available HDMI and VGA ports; I hooked up two identical HP S2031 monitors using one HDMI to DVI-D cable, the other with a VGA cable. Not much difference between the display on either one. The built in Intel Graphics card has 2Gb of RAM on-board. Very happy with that, as the power supply is 305W I believe, which is too small for most PCIe cards that I have found except for older designs that have less RAM available. USB 3.0 is the only thing really missing from this PC that I see, but I plan to add a card later, the machine has ample space for upgrade, including full height cards. It's faster than my PC at work, which is overdue for an upgrade. Overall, this is a great value for the money.

The computer appears to be fast for the price

I bought the computer based on the price point. It has met expectations. However, I can only wonder how much better it would be if not for Win 8. But this appears to be the way Microsoft is going in the future so I will deal with it. I absolutely HATE that the program forces your hand with so many issues. It dictates to the user and there's no way around it. And all those preloaded Apps! Really! Delete...Delete...Delete...You'll see. You're stuck with it in any new computer on the market today at the big box stores. And all that extra LONOVO stuff that's preloaded...is all that really necessary or helpful? So far, not so much. And user friendly it is not. What purpose does all that extra software serve except to slow down the machine? The computer itself appears to be pretty fast, even if it is a little bit louder than I would like. The keyboard and mouse are flimsy, but I just use my old keyboard and mouse. And the downside is it comes with so much software junk preloaded - Win8 included.

a bit hard for a beginner because it has windows 8

I am very happy with the hardware, and all the support from Lenovo. We had program problems with windows 8, so they upgraded us to 8.1 at no charge, the customer service and tech support are awesome. The tech spoke in terms that were easy to understand, and was very patient. They send out e-mails to help teach the features of the computer, and let you know just what it can do. Their tutorials are excellent. The features of this hardware are easy to figure out, the case is very sleek and streamlined, I liked how the CD drive open button blends in with the chrome trim. The dual core makes it really fast, the large drive is a plus, mouse and keyboard that come with it are nice also.

Computer was nice...... Operating system the worst

Purchased this computer mainly because it was a more financially sound option to update my old computer from XP..... Microsoft can't get anything right with * and 8.1 is just a complete failure. I have a iMac as well and seeing the new products from Microsoft just solidify the reason I prefer Apple products. Understand that my problem with this product has nothing to do with the computer itself, just the failure of an operating system. If Microsoft can develop a good product this computer would be amazing. So I say I wouldn't buy another Levono, and that my review is primarily stating that the operating system needs a major overhaul.

For the money, its a no brianer!

For the money, this is a great deal. Pre loaded with all the essentials and a 1 T hard drive....insane. Great for most applications but the video card is not so great if you want to play games on it. Besides that and only 4G of memory (need a little more for some games) and this is a no brainer to get! Excellent value!

    Great Computer for the Price

I purchased this computer when my old 9 year old computer bit the dust. I use this for both work and personal. It took me a bit to get used to Win8 but there is guidance on the start up if you can find it! Gone are the days when computers came with manuals! I was not familiar with the Lenovo brand, was informed they had been the ones to mfg computers for IBM. So, I gave it a try and have been very happy with it so far. Have had it about 2 months now. Thankfully the Geek Squad was able to transfer most of my files and pictures from the dead hard drive on the old system.

    Good features for the price

I bought this CPU to replace our old Dell that crapped out. I really like Windows 8 and the extra features it offers. I have quite a lot if music stored on my CPU so the 1TB of storage was a very important feature. I didn't like the 30 trial of Office but that seems to be the norm with most desktops now. All in all we've been satisfied with this CPU so far. I hope it lasts as long as our last one did(7 years!).

Overall, extremely satisfied. I like the speed and it has excellent graphics. Windows 8 can be frustrating but with a little patience, you can learn the ins and outs of the system.

Tower great Windows 8 not so much

Haven't had a tower in a long time but very pleased with the actual working function, haven't had any problems. Although getting used to windows 8 is so frustrating. Trying to find things takes forever, hopefully it is a learning curve but if you don't have a touch screen I'd stick with what you know in regards to the Windows program.

    Great PC on a budget

This is by far the nicest looking PC that i have ever owned. It has a nice brushed metallic finish, with a few chrome and black accents. This PC outperforms all others that i have owned. Windows 8 is not as bad as i expected, though it has been updated 3 times in the last 3 months. Lenovo pre-loaded this machine with some tools and games that if were any good would have really upgraded my views. It came with a built in system utilities program that was basically built for a different machine and not entirely compatible with this one. Additionally a lenovo games icon greated me on the desktop and brought along with it a virus on the first use. Front facing USB ports are not the easiest to plug into, but definitely serve their purpose. Overall a good-looking machine, that performs well and does not break the bank.

Hadn't heard of Lenovo before, but when I looked at the specs on this system and talked to a couple different Geek Squad folks, and a friend who bought one recently, I was impressed. And once I bought it and had it up and running, all my expectations were met.

I liked the costumer service when purchasing it and I ended up buying a year of warranty since employee was reassuring it would be the better deal. I was looking for a computer with all the gizmos and gadgets necessary for writing papers, doing research, uploading videos, and especially scanning and printing. I agree Lenovo is just as good as the next brand but there are extras that I needed to buy in order to this, like Microsoft Office and HP set-up for installation.

The multiformat media card reader makes it easy to transfer digital photos and videos, which makes it easier to organize them on the spacious hard drive. Sharing the photos and videos with family via a favorite social networking site is a snap with Windows 8.
