    Great Laptop All Around

I bought this primarily for school. The price was right, the specs were great for what I was getting and the new AMD APU line is fantastic for the mobile market. I have a gaming desktop and while this laptop is primarily used for school and business purposes it is nice to know I can throw on an older game I enjoy when I am on the road and the laptop can more than handle it. The screen is clear and sharp, the sound is great for a laptop until you put in a pair of headphones, then it really shines. All in all I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sturdy laptop that won't break the bank. Oh and 1TB(Terabyte) Hard Drve at this price is a steal!

Bought this computer for my 13 year old son who's entering 8th grade. I researched carefully as I had a limited budget but still wanted to get him a quality machine. There were several computers offered at this price point including HP & Asus. I chose the Lenovo due to the combination of the processor, hard drive space, & expandable ram. I purchased 4GB of additional RAM, at the time of purchase, & installed it myself with no problem. My son loves it. Enough said.

    Good laptop for the price

Being only my second laptop, really don't have much to compare it to. Last one being a higher end Gateway I got for a steal, when they (Best Buy) were clearing out last of the Windows XP machines. So of coarse this one being a mid range computer, does seam to be built a little cheaper. but, of coarse... worlds difference on original prices. That being said, it still seems to be really well built and built to last a while. This is my first go around with Windows 8, and not real sure about it yet. It is way different. Just wanting a newer machine, I chose this one because of the memory is probably more than I will ever use. And since I travel a lot, it is nice to not have to carry a bunch of extra stuff with me. So far seems good for the price. Just don't understand why they wasted time and paper on the included manuals. They tell you nothing. At least they are installed onto the computer itself.

So let me start by saying this laptop is almost a steal for the money. Sure it isn't touch screen and it doesn't have any sort of blow you away styling, but for the amount of storage and ram this is a great price. Screen looks great and the Wifi runs good enough for me. Let me also note that i use this for college course and for my career in the automotive industry. So far has been fairly fast and seems to work great. Windows 8.1 isn't bad once you are used to it. This laptop is also less than an inch thick and has a disc drive with a burner. Bottom line is this is an excellent value!

    For the price....quite amazing

Set up was easy! I took the advice of some other reviewers, as well as personal experience with McAfee and immediately uninstalled it. (seems like it is just a space taking irritant IMO). I then installed WebRoot. Easy as well! Day one, everything worked perfectly, I was thinking, wow, this is really a fabulous computer for the money. Day two, noticed suddenly that videos were playing only in solid green. I could hear the videos, but everything......green! Now I was slightly irritated. I googled information about videos playing in green and was able to go into tools, and then advanced internet options and check 2 boxes, no problem since. (now day 6). If it were not for that I would give this a 5 star rating. I don't really understand what caused this problem, as I am not that computer savvy. Glad it was an easy solution. As far as any connectivity issues, I have had none, speed is good also, and I don't have a fast internet service!

My first Lenovo, and so far, so good. Has a lot of "junk" installed (programs I don't need), but they can be uninstalled, so no big deal.

    Great computer for non-gamers

    |

I purchased the Lenovo G50 after spending a good month researching and talking to the staff at several local Best Buys. If you are looking for a basic computer than can handle most basic tasks, then this will more than suffice. I've downloaded LibreOffice and use Chrome. The computer is quick and is able to handle multi-tasking with no problems. I do not play games, and from my understanding, if one is a gamer, then they'd need a more powerful machine. But for most non-gamers, this will serve you well. The screen is large and the picture quality is great when streaming. I decided on a 15.5" screen since this is my primary computer. The machine is surprisingly light for the size of the laptop. It's lighter than my former Lenovo 13.3" from five years ago. I decided on the G50, because of all the sub-$400 computers, the keyboard felt the best. While the keys are not of the quality of the $800 range machines, the feel and touch is accurate (I touch type). There are some annoyances with the keyboard though. First, it seems impossible to get a 15.5" laptop without a 10-key. While convenient for some, it's mostly annoying for those who don't use it, because it forces the laptop to sit shifted to the left when using it off a desk. As I type this my face is not directed to the center of the laptop. I'm looking at the first third of the screen. By putting in a 10-key, it also forces some of the right hand side buttons to be smaller. The shift key is half the size on the right as on the left. For someone who touch types, it's easy to miss the key and accidentally hit the up-arrow, which moves the cursor to the prior line. I'd prefer a normal sized keyboard, with no 10-key, and a little space on both sides. To get this, I'd have to have a smaller screen. That's been my only complaint. Apart from that minor annoyance, the G50 is a great purchase. Battery life is at about 4-5 hours of continued use (less with streaming). If I was to go back and get another computer, I'd either repurchase this one or get a smaller screen to remove the 10-key.

Nice laptop when you don't need anything fancy

I don't do a lot on my computers besides web browsing and writing papers, so this laptop is great for me. It's slim and lightweight, easy to carry, and the battery holds up for a decent length of time. I love the ten key pad on the side, something my old laptop was sorely lacking. The keys are raised and separated, which I much prefer over flat, level, and connected. My only complaint is that the mouse touchpad doesn't have a scroller on the side, so doing it with two fingers is a little harder to control. Besides that, I think it's great, and the price is unbeatable.

    Best bet in it's range

I don't write many reviews but I felt especially compelled as the first person to review it here who gave this one star, who had a wifi problem is not representative of this laptop. As I have no problems here. So as other reviewer said. This really is the best bang for your buck! As for what your getting at this price. I tried several other laptops and returned them. Wasting to much time before getting this one. ( I always seem to end up back with Lenovo). Acer I tried had several issues & was defective. Hp was good accept a bit slower with Pentium. Now that I have seen the differences. Toshiba while I liked the speaker sound. I didn't like a couple other things like the keyboard and it was especially more prone to fingerprints. And the dell, had poor low sound quality! Especially for them advertising their "WavesMaxx" audio. This Lenovo is fast. I would say the Amd A6 this includes which is a fairly new chip in this. It is right up there with Intel's core i3 series. Dell had an A4 by Amd & it was slower more like Intel's Pentium. The Dolby sound app lenovo uses is good & loud. Your also getting bluetooth included. And I noticed some in the lower price range are not even coming with an optical DVD/CD drive anymore which this has. This even has the older VGA port. It did take me a bit to figure out how to keep the screen brightness at the same max as when its plugged in charging. It's done through Amd's graphics catalyst app. No problems here with wifi at all. You can visit lenovo's website and get some updated drivers already too. I also recommend & one of the first things I always do is uninstall the anti virus it comes with and use another to speed things up even more. The mouse pad is good here with two left and right keys. Although to save wear you should get a wireless mouse too. So overall if your looking for a great laptop for everyday home use & even some business work. This is a fantastic deal! & I highly recommend it. Now knock on wood it last's me a while. P.S also it's thin & a bit lighter then others too!

    Great laptop for the price

The laptop is powerful. no powerful like an I7 but its quite powerful, enough power to use dual 1080p monitors (current set up) and i can use them without any lag what so ever it would be fast with almost every task you put it through. Now to gaming i think this is a quite important factor since this laptop is using an APU instead of a regular CPU and i have to say im pleased, if you use just the laptop and its native resolution.(it wont run games at 1080p) but for example i can play Guild Wars 2 at 34 fps at low settings which is more than what i was expecting, its got a good amount of storage and i like it so far best laptop for the price in my opinion. I strongly recommend getting a real mouse because although the touchpad works just fine i cant stand them and this one is no different so to have a really great experience i would suggest you get a cheap mouse and keyboard that are hopefully better than the ones in this laptop.

    Lenovo G50 1 TB laptop

I bought this laptop for myself..then my daughter took it over as she attends college. The laptop has 1TB of storage which she is very happy about since she does a lot of photos and schoolwork...writing papers. I do not know much in regards to Windows 8 but it seems simple enough to learn even for me...if you can work an android phone you can learn Windows 8..the computer seems to meet her needs as I haven't received any complaints...and I chose this laptop over an $800.00+ priced one. I hope it serves her well. At this price I should have gotten two!!

Settled on this one after a long search for a balance of features and cost. Bought this one about a month ago and so far haven't been disappointed with it's performance. I was somewhat disappointed in finding out it didn't have a program to copy music. It also doesn't have a program to copy DVD's but I already had one to load on the hard drive. I really don't find Windows 8.1 a problem for me after using XP and 7 for years. All in all, I don't think you'll find a laptop with as many features as this one for the remarkable price!

I was looking to replace my five year old Acer which had given up the ghost. Went on BB site and found the Lenovo G50. I'd been wanting to try a Lenovo and found one with the AMD A6 processor and a TB of memory. The Acer which was good until it actually broke in two, had an AMD processor too so I'm good with that, and less spendy than its Intel cousin. This one is so Fast and light and thin. Very happy. Very nice feel to the key board and the keys have a kind of dished shape to them, quite easy to use. My only reservation is that sometimes the mouse becomes unresponsive and just wanders the screen. Not sure what that is. But otherwise I would certainly recommend this for $349! Quite a deal.

Computer was for my teenage daughter, she needed enough space on the computer for games that she wanted to be able to do her homework on it. Overall she is very happy with this computer. Not a big fan of windows 8 but the computer itself was a good in performance, display, & value.

    Best bang for the buck

    Posted .

I wanted the cheapest decent computer for work use, music, and a bit of video/movie watching on vacation etc. Overall, the computer suites all my needs. It has decent speed, but hangs every now and then when I have a ton of windows open. It handles music and videos fine. The case which seems really nice, collects oil and dirt more than most. Battery life is not listed and I estimate about 4.5-5 hours from it. My wireless connection is more than fine, it works particularly well picking up networks my other laptop does not. The power supply is small and secures really well by a USB-like port. I really like the keyboard and trackpad placement. The screen isn't spectacular, but I cannot pinpoint a problem; my last one was 17inches so this may explain things. The software included isn't bad and I think the diagnostic app from lenovo is better than most. I would suggest removing McAfee, finding techniques for boosting windows 8, and disable trackpad gestures. Overall, I feel this computer was the best bang for the buck. The processor is similar to the i3 in some ways, and I was considering this one or a 17inch HP with an i3 and I do not regret my choice. It runs particularly cool which I think is beneficial for its long-term survival. If you are considering an i3, don't rule this out and I believe it is much better than a celeron or other unlabeled Pentiums (that aren't i5, i7).
