All in all, this was a fine purchase. I knew that i wanted a basic PC. I found an available salesperson on Black Friday at 8pm. He was willing and able to help me. Lickety split, I had my paperwork and the PC was going to be delivered in a few days. In the end, they got it to my home two days earlier than promised.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 Desktop is a fantastic budget-friendly option that doesn't skimp on features. It's powered by an Intel Core i5-14400 processor, which provides plenty of power for everyday tasks like browsing the web, checking email, and working on documents. Our family needed a shared computer that was centrally located so everyone could create a profile and use it as needed. Already having the necessary peripherals laying around, such as a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, the Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 was a great choice and fits the bill perfectly. ~Design The IdeaCentre 3 has a sleek and modern design that will look good in any home office. It's small and compact, so it won't take up too much space on your desk, or in the kitchen, which is where we have ours placed. Its compact size also allows it to be easily positioned behind flat-panel monitors, making it a discreet and space-saving option. ~Graphics The IdeaCentre 3 comes with integrated Intel UHD Graphics. Integrated graphics aren’t the most powerful, but it's good enough for basic tasks like watching videos and playing casual games. If you're planning on doing any serious gaming, you'll need to upgrade to a system that supports a dedicated graphics card. That said, the integrated graphics card powers my 4K UHD monitor and looks great. More on this below. ~RAM The IdeaCentre 3 comes with 8GB of 3200 megahertz of DDR4 RAM. This is a good amount of RAM for most people, but you can upgrade to 16GB or 32GB of RAM if you need more. I will be upgrading mine to 32GB in the near future since RAM is currently pretty affordable. Upgrading the RAM in a desktop computer has several key benefits, which is why I prioritize making this upgrade whenever possible. Some of these benefits include the following. Improved multitasking: More RAM allows you to run multiple programs and applications simultaneously without experiencing slowdowns or crashes. This is especially important for users who frequently switch between different tasks or have many programs open at the same time. Furthermore, when multiple users are logged into the same computer with their personalized desktops, having additional RAM is crucial. Faster loading times: With more RAM, your computer can load programs and files more quickly. This can be a significant improvement for users who work with large files or frequently open demanding applications. Enhanced gaming performance: While this isn’t intended to be a “gaming computer,” more RAM can improve gaming performance of even basic titles by providing smoother gameplay and reducing lag. Increased productivity: Overall, having more RAM can lead to increased productivity by reducing the amount of time spent waiting for programs to load or tasks to complete. ~Performance The IdeaCentre 3 is a solid performer. It's able to handle everyday tasks with ease, and it can even handle some light gaming. However, it's not a powerhouse, so you shouldn't expect it to be able to handle demanding tasks like video editing or 3D rendering. Light non graphic intensive games, watching Netflix or YouTube, browsing the web, and using office type software all seem to perform flawlessly. Again, for an everyday, shared family computer with multiple user profiles, this has been perfect for us. The included keyboard and mouse are both wired and unfortunately feel a little flimsy. They are good enough to get the job done but if you plan on using this system frequently, I would recommend buying a wireless third party mouse and keyboard for less clutter, better performance, and longevity. I already had an extra wireless Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, so I connected them easily and use them both daily. The connection to both is stable and reliable so far. ~Connectivity The IdeaCentre 3 has a good selection of connectivity options. It includes 1 USB-C 3.2, 2 USB-A 2.0, 4 USB-A 3.2, an Ethernet port, a VGA port, and an HDMI port. It also has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so you can connect to the internet and your other devices wirelessly. The IdeaCentre 3 features a well-rounded set of connectivity options, catering to diverse user needs. The front panel also includes both headphone and microphone inputs, in case you want to video chat with friends and family. Just be sure to purchase a webcam if needed! Moreover, the IdeaCentre 3 is equipped with an HDMI port, enabling seamless connectivity to external displays, projectors, or TVs. This versatility allows users to extend their desktop workspace or enjoy multimedia content on a larger screen. The HDMI port supports high-resolution video output, delivering crisp and immersive visuals. I currently have this hooked up to a 4K UHD monitor via the HDMI port and it looks sharp and clear. In addition to wired connectivity options, the IdeaCentre 3 includes built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. With Wi-Fi connectivity, users can access the internet wirelessly, facilitating web browsing, online gaming, and streaming media without the hassle of cables. Bluetooth connectivity allows the IdeaCentre to pair with various wireless devices such as smartphones, headphones, tablets, speakers, mice, track-pads, and keyboards. Overall, the IdeaCentre 3's connectivity options provide flexibility and convenience, catering to a wide range of user scenarios and ensuring a seamless and productive computing experience. Having several family member profiles quickly available on a shared computer is everything I hoped it would be, and the Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 has performed flawlessly. Based on my review and how we use this computer, I can highly recommend the Lenovo IdeaCentre 3. It combines superb performance with an accessible price point. It is worthy of a few minor upgrades that can elevate its abilities and unlock its full potential. I am looking forward to adding additional RAM soon for an even faster experience. ***Pros Sleek and modern design Compact space saving size Great selection of connectivity options Solid performance for standard everyday tasks RAM is easy to upgrade ***Cons Graphics card cannot be upgraded Only 8GB RAM standard Included keyboard and mouse are wired and flimsy

If you're just looking for a home-use (or even business-use) desktop, this is a fantastic machine. It's small, compact, will fit into tight computer desk or cart enclosures, and has enough horsepower and RAM to keep everything running along smoothly. This isn't a desktop PC for gamers, obviously, but for general users who simply want a speedy and smooth desktop PC, this is a great option. Setup is a breeze, and the desktop is able to handle a reasonably large amount of ordinary use tasks at once. I've been using this for work and can keep several tabs open, edit videos for Web use, and have multiple applications running at once without experiencing any slowdown or performance issues. I'm actually kind of impressed, given that the specs fall on more of the basic side, but the internal storage and RAM could be upgraded if needs be. The machine also runs quietly and the fan never seems to indicate that the CPU is being overtaxed. The included keyboard and mouse are OK, but like most desktop users, I swapped these out for my own hardware (since I have a collection of keyboards now) as soon as possible. If you don't like them (the included peripherals), they're eminently easy to replace, but they get the job done. Port access is adequate, too, and I haven't had to break out a USB hub yet. My only complaint is that there isn't an optical drive, but you can easily see how that was a necessary tradeoff to achieve the small form factor the device has. I really like how unobtrusive and compact this desktop is. Included manufacturer pre-installed software is what it is. If you find it annoying, you can simply turn off notifications or try an uninstall some of it. Realistically, though, this is present on all major manufacturer PCs, so it's not like the experience is worse here. All in all, this a great machine for personal or work use. If you want a gaming of video production and editing PC, you should look elsewhere, but for the vasty majority of users, this has everything you need.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 Desktop, featuring the Intel Core i5-14400, 8GB of memory, and a 256GB SSD, is a solid choice for users seeking a reliable, everyday desktop. Encased in a sleek Cloud Grey chassis, it blends seamlessly into any modern home or office environment. This review delves into the performance, design, and overall value of this desktop, highlighting both its strengths and areas for improvement.PerformancePowered by the Intel Core i5-14400, the IdeaCentre 3 delivers robust performance for typical computing tasks. Whether you're browsing the web, managing spreadsheets, or enjoying multimedia content, this processor handles it with ease. The 8GB of RAM ensures smooth multitasking, although it's worth noting that for more intensive applications or heavy multitasking, upgrading the memory might be necessary. The 256GB SSD provides fast boot times and quick access to files and applications. However, the storage capacity could be limiting for users with large media libraries or extensive software installations. Adding an external hard drive or utilizing cloud storage could mitigate this shortfall, but it’s an extra step some users may find inconvenient.Design and BuildThe Cloud Grey finish gives the IdeaCentre 3 a modern, understated look that suits various environments. Its compact design makes it easy to fit into tight spaces, making it ideal for small home offices or dorm rooms. The build quality is generally solid, though the plastic exterior doesn't exude the premium feel of higher-end models. One downside in terms of design is the placement of ports. While the front panel includes convenient USB ports and an audio jack, some users might find the overall number of available ports limiting, especially for those with multiple peripherals. Additionally, the absence of a USB-C port is a notable omission in a market where USB-C is becoming increasingly standard.Connectivity and ExpansionThe IdeaCentre 3 comes equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities, ensuring easy connectivity to the internet and wireless devices. However, the Ethernet port is a welcome addition for those who prefer a wired internet connection for more stable performance.Expansion options are somewhat limited. While the desktop includes space for additional RAM and storage upgrades, users looking to significantly enhance their system's capabilities might find the options somewhat restricted compared to more modular desktop systems.Software and User ExperienceLenovo includes a suite of pre-installed software, some of which users might find unnecessary, potentially slowing down the system. It's advisable to clean up the bloatware to ensure the desktop operates at its full potential.ConclusionOverall, the Lenovo IdeaCentre 3 Desktop offers a balanced mix of performance and practicality for everyday use. Its strong processing power, sufficient memory, and quick SSD make it a capable machine for a variety of tasks. However, the limited storage, absence of a USB-C port, and somewhat restrictive expansion options are worth considering. For users needing a dependable, straightforward desktop for general tasks, the IdeaCentre 3 is a commendable option. It’s particularly suitable for students, remote workers, and those needing a secondary home computer.
