    Great Office PC

So, this review is going to be split into two parts. The first, and simplest part is this: this is a very good mid level PC. It's great for a home office or for a student. It has plenty of storage for pictures and music. It boots up from power button to windows login in less than 30 seconds. I will use this computer for EXCEL, Photoshop, and even a bit of video editing. With the built in WiFi and Bluetooth connections, there are a lot of things you can do with this little machine. There is a minimal amount of apps that come pre-installed. Nothing feels obtrusive. Everything is simple and the computer performs very well for this price. The AMD Ryzen processor will hold up for at least the next 3 - 4 years and the case is light and portable. If that is what you are looking for, I can't recommend this PC highly enough. I was a bit disappointed that some of the software that came installed did not work. The Lenovo Family Cloud seemed like a great idea, but I couldn't find it with the QR reader and when I finally did find it in the app store, I couldn't get two separate iPhones to connect. Now for the Technical: The machine is very bare bones on the inside. Lenovo advertises their case and they even provide a pamphlet showing you how to physically upgrade parts of the machine. As someone who has built PCs for years, I thought this was a great feature, but the power supply on the machine is a bit limited. It's only a 250 Watt power supply with no molex connectors for most of today's video cards. I was able to get a Radeon RX-560 to work in this case. But if I had gone with any other video card, I probably would have had to also upgrade the power supply which would have required a special adapter to work with the proprietary Lenovo motherboard. Also, there are only two ram slots and the maximum amount of DDR4 memory that this computer can support is 16GB. But there is nothing in the documentation that came with the computer saying what brand and speeds of RAM Lenovo would recommend if you decided to swap the RAM out. Providing this easily accessible case with a promise of future upgrades only to make it impossible to upgrade the machine because of a limited power supply and a lack of compatibility documentation seemed a bit of a tease. You can swap out the power supply, but because the Lenovo motherboard uses a proprietary 10 pin connector, you will have to get an adapter that does not come standard with most power supplies. The computer desperately needs more USB 3.0 ports on the back of the machine. Connections for peripherals are pretty limited. There are four USB ports on the front of the case including two USB 3.0, but that total seems very limited to me. I really do like this computer. It seems like a great machine for now and it is upgradeable. It handled every piece of office software I threw at it and once I upgraded the video card I got decent gaming performance. I just hope in future models that Lenovo provides a more flexible power supply and better hardware documentation.

    Office or College Work Ready

The setup for this computer was a breeze. It has an HDMI cable that connected to my monitor with no hitches. I started a timer from the moment I turned on the computer until I finished all the basic first-time setup procedures. That took 6 minutes, 58 seconds. After all the updates, I turned it off, waited a minute, then turned on the computer to test how fast I could start using the computer. It takes 1 minute and 27 seconds to boot up and be ready to use. Some key features of this computer is its AMD Ryzen 5 processor for fast data handling, its 8GB RAM, and its 1TB hard drive. It also comes with Windows 10 installed. All of this works together to create a perfect office computer. There are 6 USB ports, 4 of which are 3.0. Also, it has a now rare disk drive for playback of media. The performance of this PC is good for it’s intended purpose. It was able to handle flawlessly all the tasks I threw at it for office work. My day job is being a teacher. So, we often work with the Google Suite and Microsoft Office. It was able to open programs like these with speediness and have multiple programs open at once without slowing my work flow. Gamewise, you might think that this can handle video games because of the AMD processor. To clarify, this isn’t a gaming computer, but it was able to handle newer 2D side scrolling games like Sundered. The PC meets my expectations. Good for what it was meant to do, which was to be a fast, reliable office computer. The price for the PC in terms of value is worth it if you want something reliable in your workspace. It’s footprint is medium size compared to other existing tower PCs, but not so large that it’s overbearing. I highly recommend this product for people who are looking to be productive with Microsoft or Google Suites. It’s ideal for small businesses or for college students.

New Lenovo Ryzen-5 quad core - smooth graphics

I was excited to try the Ryzen CPU when I learned of its launch back in April, 2017. With the trusted Lenovo name, I knew it would be a solid machine. With the addition of the 1-GB HDMI graphics card, 8-GB DDR4 memory and 1-TB hard drive my graphic and CPU intensive CAD software runs amazingly well. Beautiful rendering and smooth , fluid movement when rendering and moving parts. Windows -10 HOME is installed and boots rather quickly. Lenovo bundles a few extras like Acronis backup, which you should instantly use to backup your operating System (OS) since there are no disks to reload with. (Not really needed anymore anyways.) No complaints, since you can move it anywhere in your home or office with the built in WI-Fi and Bluetooth on-board. Also, standard network RJ-45 connector on back. Super quiet, no noticeable fan noise since the CPU only draws 95-watts.

This mini and nice Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18ASU Has AMD Ryzen 5-Series - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive but not a dedicated video card, but It can handle multiple programs and tasks with zero lagging. I tried to install Adobe PS and did few things and I can it performed well. Boot up takes less than 25 seconds in Windows 10. Super mini tower desktop comes with wired keyboard and mouse.

Desktop Computer for Web Surfer and Photos

I'm "the tech guy" for my family and friends. When one of my parents starts to have too many problems that I can't solve remotely, I just pick up a new computer for them. In order to minimize my grief, I try to buy something that will last them 3-4 years and I set it up and then send it out to them. The Lenovo ideacentre is a medium-sized tower machine with a brushed metal front attractive enough to feature on your desktop. The 1 Terabyte physical hard drive is loaded with Windows 10 Home spinning at HDD @ 7200 rpm. It accesses data quickly and should hold more photos than parents, grandparents or kids can take the time upload from their camera phone. And you know how they never empty their browser cache? No problem. The ideacentre features an independent AMD Radeon R5 340 Video Card with 2gb ram that connects to old VGA monitors or the more current HDMI (which also means you can connect it to a flat screen TV). The cool features to me are BUILT-IN Bluetooth and 802.11ac Wireless capabilities! That means it's not necessary to locate the machine near your modem or router. Those cool wireless Bluetooth headphones and keyboard- connect 'em! Also nice are the connections accessed by opening the front swing door panel (though it sadly cannot be closed with wires protruding- a slot would have been perfect) +USB 2.0 and SS3.0 +SD Card Reader +Microphone + Headphone jacks The ideacentre has enough memory and processing power to please the average web surfer, occasional document writer and casual photo editor. It's a great value.

First off, don't buy this PC believing what Lenovo says on the box or their website about it being "upgradeable" in any way. While that is technically true, the power supply, motherboard and case design are all very proprietary. There are also only 2 SATA slots on the board, so you can never have more than the 2 SATA drives w/o an add-in card. You can add an NVMe SSD in the empty m2 slot, but it doesn't support SATA at all, even with an adapter to a cradle, so you cannot put in any other type of SSD you have laying around. So your only route to more SATA devices is to put a card in the sole available PCIe 1x slot, which will be blocked by any GPU larger than the stock one. Really, do not buy to upgrade. As a PC in general, ignoring that bullet point in the manufacturer info, this is a great system for office media use or as an all-purpose home PC. The graphics card is not intended for gaming beyond casual play, but in every other way this system is everything an average user needs. Lenovo's software is minimal and the PC is not overly loaded with bloatware. If that isn't you and you want to know how hard it would really be to turn this into a cheap gaming PC at a time when most Ryzen CPUs are sold out: It's a huge pain, but I did it. Mine now contains an EVGA aftermarket power supply, a new CPU cooler and an old r9 270X my buddy had in a box, since I can't even buy a decent GPU. I had to rebuild the dang case inside, but it works. Fortunately the extra m2 drive I had was NVMe not SATA, so I was in luck. The bios will not support any kind of SATA or mini-PCIe devices, no matter what adpaters or cradles you have, just repeating that once more. The m2 slot only recognizes NVMe drives, regardless of what it could theoretically support on the chipset.

Solid Choice for a Family Computer

PROS: - Relatively small form factor - Ryzen R5 - 1TB of storage - Keyboard and mouse included - Runs quiet - Front access to four USB-A ports (two 3.0 and two 2.0) and SD card reader CONS: - Only two USB-A 3.0 ports - HDD rather than SSD This is a great choice for a family computer. The CPU is great and can handle all the tasks we throw at it. I can multiple tabs in Chrome open, stream music, work on a PP presentation, and never see any signs of the PC trying to keep up (and it is still super quiet). The IdeaCentre 720-18ASU has 8GB of DDR4 memory and the motherboard supports up to 32GB, but it only has two DIMM slots. Honestly, 8GB should be more than enough for a PC used primarily for school/work. While this computer does have a Radeon R5 340, this PC isn't built with gaming in mind. The card is great for media consumption, but I would keep the games simple (think Minecraft or Hearthstone). It's pretty easy to get into the case to access components, so you could put in a RX 560 or GTX 1050 (just remember to put in a bigger PSU since 240W won't cut it) in the future. I love the amount of storage on this thing, but the fact that it uses a HDD rather than an SSD might bother some people. You really need to decide which is more important: speed or storage. As I mentioned earlier, it's very easy to get into the case and access all the components, so I may buy an SSD later for Windows and other regularly used programs and just set the HDD for media storage.

Our 8 year old monster desktop finally died. We'd replaced the graphics card, added an external sound card, and finally, the hard drive gave up the ghost. I started researching the open box desktops on the website because (a little demographic info) I am a stay at home mom to 4 kids with ASD(and one grown up lawyer chick who is doing well, we have one finished product to lay claim to). Money is tight. I found this particular desktop for $260 off the retail price at a nearby Best Buy store. I basically got a great desktop for $500, including a 3 year extended service agreement. The computer is expandable up to 32 GB of RAM, so for the foreseeable future, I shouldn't have to worry about a replacement. Response is fairly quick, I may make an addendum to this post after my computer geek son does some benchmark testing. I'll keep you posted. :-D

This PC is an excellent choice for internet and basic tasks. If you're a gamer, you'll probably need to upgrade the video card(and the power-supply). I got this on sale for $449-well worth it in my opinion. The only reason I docked it 1 star is because it did not come with at least an exhaust fan. I spent an extra $10 and installed a 92mm rear fan and a 80mm intake fan and this runs nice and cool.
