Good Bare Bones PC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC is for my father who only checks email, surfs the web and watches the occasional you tube video. The machine was very easy to setup with the wizard and we were up and running in no time. No complaints about the performance at all. My only request is that you add some USB ports, luckily I already had a USB hub to resolve this. Overall, this is a great PC for basic use.

Good value for average computer user
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are an average computer user that surfs the web, does personal finances and some office work then this desktop pc offers a good value for the features it offers. I especially like the front face of the desktop that has a sleek brushed aluminum look with an easily accessible door on the right side that swings back to reveal a microphone and headphone connector, memory card reader, two USB 3.0 connectors and two USB 2.0 connectors. The rear of the pc has the usual audio connectors, HDMI-out, VGA-out, serial connector, two USB 2.0 connectors, Ethernet connector, expansion card slots and the power connector. Given the number of wireless accessories I utilize I felt these specs met my needs. Based on one's needs, one might want to consider spending a bit more to move up to the Lenovo 720-181KL desktop that includes four USB 3.0 connectors in the front; and two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 connectors in the rear. The 181KL also features an Intel I5 processor and Nvidia graphics card. This contrasts with an AMD Ryzen processor and AMD Radeon graphics card in the 18ASU. My experience using the 720-18ASU desktop has been favorable. It has plenty of speed for watching online videos, surfing the web, personal finances and other typical activities for a family, student or average user. This pc is not the one for any hard core gamers in your family, but the price point and value this desktop offers also reflects that. I like that the desktop still includes an optical disk drive and the computer seems to operate quietly.

A Curious Selection of Features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nowadays Laptop PCs are usually preferred over Desktop PCs because of the very desirable portability that Laptops offer. There is however still a place for Desktop PCs because their larger physical size makes cooling and fitting higher performance CPUs, power supplies, video cards and various connection ports easier and cheaper. Thus, Desktop PCs are usually used for tasks such as video production, engineering design and intensive gaming programs. This makes some of the design choices Lenovo made on this particular model (18ASU) of their 720 series curious. 1. The 18ASU has 6 USB ports but only two are on the back and 4 are beneath a cover on the front. Only 2 of the 4 front ports are the modern high speed USB 3 ports while the other 2 back ports are both the old slower USB 2 design. The included Mouse and Keyboard both use UBB connections so after plugging them into the back of the computer, it leaves NO USB ports open except the 4 under the front cover. That means that if you have a USB connected printer and a USB connected high speed external NAS hard drive like I do, you'll have to leave the front door of the computer open and have two cables hanging out permanently exposed. Not a pretty sight. Strangely the 18ASU has an ancient Serial Port on the back used by printers and modems over a decade ago, but no extra USB ports on the back. 2. The 18ASU version of this Lenovo series has an optical drive. In itself, that's a good thing to have when you have the room that a desktop PC has available. If all you have is modern Laptops in your home, you probable have no way of using those old CDs or DVDs you made of old family pictures or videos. With this computer you will be able to read these old media types and convert them to hard-drives, USB Thumb Drives or even upload them to cloud storage. The bad news is the particular optical drive that Lenovo choose for this particular 720 model. Even though they had plenty of room to offer a physically large optical drive like the ones used in Desktop PCs for years, they choose a very thin optical drive that was probably designed for the restricted height found in a Laptop PC. Because of the drive's unnecessary thinness, it cannot play some CDs or DVDs that were burned at home and then overlaid with a paper label with information and artwork. These homemade disks are extremely common and when I tried playing them, almost half of the paper labels came in contact with something inside the drive making a machine gun noise until the drive ground to a halt. Some of my old home-burned disks had black surfaces instead of the common silver surfaces. The 18ASU could not read the black disks. The only way I could enter the contents of these CDs and DVDs into the 18ASU was to use an external DVD drive which had no problems reading them. One good thing that is not well documented is that the 18ASU's optical drive is capable of burning R/W disks as well as reading them. As I mentioned, these two idiosyncrasies are particular to this specific Lenovo 7020 model, the 18ASU. If these mentioned issues are not important to you then 18ASU is otherwise a very capable middle of the road desktop. I would not personally recommend this exact model, but if you look at otherwise VERY similar Lenovo models like the 720-18IKL, it at least has 4 USB 3 ports on the back as well as 4 more USB 3s under the front cover.

A responsive, quiet workhorse
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have found the Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18ASU Desktop to be a pleasure to use. The setup was clear and straightforward, and after just a few seconds of powering up, it was ready for work. It comes with a USB-connection mouse and keyboard, but I used its Bluetooth capability to set up such things as printers and a Western Digital My Cloud Home system. It found all my devices quickly and completed the various Bluetooth setups with no problems. One nice surprise during setup was the relative absence of preinstalled bloatware. Other than a few games – which many people probably want – the system was pretty clean. Instead, it comes with the Lenovo App Explorer, which has shortcuts to compatible apps. It offered good suggestions and saved me from having to dance around the Internet looking for the apps I do want, so it was quite welcome. The tower is attractive, with a charcoal grey body and a brushed metal look to the face. The power button is on top and handy, but the various auxiliary USB and other ports are behind a tall door on the right-hand side of that brushed metal-look face. It's not ugly when the door is open and those ports are in use, but all that stuff just disappears when it’s closed. Very nice design touch. The DVD player is in a slim, vertical slot on the left side of the face, and although it is easily accessible, it, too, all but disappears when it’s not open. The overall effect is a sleek, low profile and high tech appearance. I am a graphic designer and work 8 to 10 hours a day on my computers, often on tight deadlines, so I need computers that work smoothly, quickly, and dependably. The Lenovo IdeaCentre gives every indication that it will do just that. I am accustomed to computers with 32 Gb of RAM, and this has only 8Gb, but I have not found it the least bit slow or sluggish. I also need computers that are quiet. With some systems, the sounds of the hard drive and the fans force me to reach for noise cancelling headphones, but this system is almost silent. So, unless is doesn’t wear well over time, I am very happy with it. My only quibble with Lenovo on this computer is that it arrived with the USB-connection mouse and keyboard. Yes, it has plenty of USB ports, but I don’t want all those cords and connections, Lenovo!

Big footprint, gets the job done
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I am a Lenovo fan. I have always had good luck with their laptops and desktops in personal and professional environments. This desktop provides the trouble-free, just works experience expected. My only "con" with it is the one common to all consumer desktops; the manufacturer bloatware. Once this is cleared off, the machine zooms quietly and efficiently through its paces and makes for a pleasant, if not powerhouse experience. With most day to day storage and actions done in the cloud these days, it is not necessary to have a powerhouse household PC. This one does give a bit more than most by having 1GB dedicated graphics instead of relying on inferior onboard video processing. Streaming services benefit from this upgrade, and since we use this PC to frequently watch movies and sports on a big screen, that boost is appreciated. I prefer a smaller footprint, but the box is sleek and inobtrusive, sturdy quality inherent to Lenovo products. Perfect for routine household or home office use and for light entertainment--not for gaming.

Posted .Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18 desktop. Besides the Windows 10 operating system, there is a 30-day trial of McAfee Anti-Virus software. The Lenovo utility software on the device is there to improve the operation of the system and improve the user experience within Windows 10.

Good Stater Computer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 1st Lenovo Computer i have ever owned. This tower is bigger then my old PC and wider make sure you have the right space for it. This PC is loaded with windows 10 i myself really don't care for the new windows. This is something that you will have to get use to as all PC come with windows 10 now. 8GB system memory for advanced multitasking This is a nice feature to have 8GB is enough space for a starter computer. it wont be able to keep up with all of your pc games as you keep loading more onto it. DVD/CD burner not a lot of people burn DVD or who still uses CD in the past yeah that was a must to have. But still nice to have if you are still burning DVD and CD. 1TB hard drive for ample file storage space Great storage space this should take some time to fill this up you can always buy extra. AMD Radeon R5 340 graphics now this is not a lot they do make a better graphics card but if you are just using this to surf the web or homework or just pay your bills this is good for that. This computer has built in WIFI so no need to connect it with an ethernet cable to the router so you have the freedom to put this anywhere. The USB ports are updated to 3.0 faster and better. Make sure you get a good antivirus protection and Office this will complete what you will be needing. Overall a very good computer for the price you should enjoy the style of the PC tower very clean and hides the USB ports silver is a nice color rather then just black all the time for a PC.

Great Overall Starting PC
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lenovo Idea centre PC is a great overall starting PC. It can handle all of the basic task you would need to do like web surfing or word processing, but it also has enough power for photo editing and even some game playing. While the processor is very good the graphics card it comes with is a couple of years old and you would do well upgrading that if you wanted to use this as a game machine. But overall this is a very good PC. The Design of the case is also very stylish and looks good sitting in my computer desk. If you are looking for a good PC and you are not looking at something top of the line this would be a very good choice. Highly Recommended!

A pretty average desktop computer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not much for pre-built PC's. I tend to buy my own parts and build my own machines. However, I recently acquired this PC for the purposes of just using it as a general use machine for browsing, email, photo editing. First, the case is very lightweight. The build quality is terribly average. There's no unique look/feel to it. It's made of really thin metal and nothing about it stands out. It comes shipped with a wired mouse and keyboard. These didn't even make it out of their box. Why?! Why ship a computer with a wired mouse/kb? It's just a waste of plastic and copper at this point. In this day and age people are typically using higher end peripherals. Performance...well I'd say this machine operates pretty standard. I expected a little more oomph out of it considering it was brand new. Boot times of Windows 10 are pretty standard for a spindle drive. The display performance quality is decent. I can't speak to its gaming capability as I didn't bother trying...I don't know why you ever would. It only has 1GB of video memory. If you're into online gambling or facebook style games I'm sure it will perform great. Also, I've experienced some hitching and freezing while browsing. I'm not sure of the cause, but I'm guessing it's a software problem. It simply shouldn't be this way out of the box. Sadly it is. If I had more time to troubleshoot it I would. I have to give Lenovo some credit. Their Lenovo companion is pretty nice. It cuts down on the bloatware and offers a platform for keeping system drivers up to date with minimal effort on the part of the end user. I'm loving the fact that this machine didn't come pre-loaded with some garbage AV software. Defender is good enough, and it's free. Spending extra for AV is a waste. Just stay off the torrent, gambling, and adult sites and you'll be fine. I'd not recommend this device to friends. Reason is that most people are in need of a tablet or laptop this day and age. Mobility is much more important than in times past. You can get a quality mobile device for a fraction of the cost of a desktop in some cases. If I were exclusively in the market for a desktop I suppose I would consider it.

Sleek, Compact, and Packs a Punch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit shows that you don't need a full tower to get a lot of power, and look good doing it. Rocking Windows 10, this system is up and running in minutes... Connect it to the internet, and do all the updates (it can vary in time, based on your connection, but typically over the first night, it will get everything). Pros: small tower, has a optical drive, 4 USB and SD memory card reader. Upgraded video card (not just the basic one). included keyboard and mouse are descent but you may want to upgrade to wireless ones, based on how and where you are hooking this up. Cons: For the value, the biggest con I have is that there are two USB ports in the back of the computer. If you are hooking up a camera, printers, scanner or other devices.. only having two in the back may require you to get a hub or run a wire to the front. Minor thing, may not effect many people either. Also, this unit still had a CLASSIC 9 pin Serial-COMM connection. Just one, but you just don't see that on many new computers today. So if you replacing some older systems, that still need that... this one has one already. Perfect computer for a student to have their own, or just another system for the family.

Great Ryzen 5 (1400) Computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We also bought a 23" Dell Monitor (which included only an HDMI cable) with this AMD computer. Set up initially was very simple. Unfortunately, there was no diagram stating that the top HDMI does not work, only the bottom HDMI works. We 1st tried the top HDMI and there was nothing on our screen, then we switched to the bottom and it worked fine. Is it that the black rubber covered HDMI needs an add-on card to make that connection work? Otherwise, this computer is very comparable to an Intel i3. Took several hours to cycle through all downloads.

Posted .Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18 Desktop. This system has a AMD Radeon R5 340 graphics card, the active HDMI port is connected to this card. The non-active HDMI port, the one that comes with the cover on it, is connected to the motherboard. Some configurations come without a graphics card and this port would then become active.

Great PC, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC is a great office PC. However, the 1 TB storage would be great if something of this magnitude came an onboard SSD. Or at least the an option to add one through the manufacture. Currently I am running a 256 SSD. And it runs like a charm. But the TB isn't connected and it seems like a waste. The needed cable isn't sold in local stores I just haven't had the time to race around to find one. So just take warning, purchase the cable and the casing if you want to upgrade to the SSD.

Great machine but expandability is limited
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You can upgrade but you will have to run a separate power supply to the video card because the in machine one is proprietary. I just have my extra supply sitting on top of the machine and running in through the side door. This machine is suuuper quiet. I cant even tell it is on when I am playing Star Citizen, Age of Conan, etc on my Nvidia 1660 card. THe CPU does keep up because of hyperthreading. THe only slowdown is if you have a slower ssd or platter hard drive. It will work but yes expandablity is somewhat limited.
