Got this on a year end sale and it seems to be exactly what our business needs at a very reasonable cost. 16gb ram was a must and this was a rare available system in store with that configuration.

This computer has great specs. However the peripherals (PSU, HDD, RAM) aren't the greatest. If you want a computer to run as is, it's a great machine. But if you want to upgrade other components, another option may be better.

This system has the highest quality components available within this price range, including AMD Ryzen 7-Series processor, AMD Radeon RX 560 GPU. This configuration has a 400W internal power supply. The Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18 desktop is a strong, mid-range desktop computing system. lenovo

I usually build our PC's but during the time I bought this Lenovo PC and a CyberPowerPC the prices for both GPU's and RAM were so sky high that I for the first time in 15 years decided to buy a prebuilt PC. Worst. Mistake. EVER. This thing has been junk from day one. It has a Ryzen 1700, 16gb RAM, and an RX560. This thing should be a processing beast! It's not. The boot time is literally 5 minutes... and now after less than 2 years, the thing seems to be failing at the hardware level. Green screens, random shutdowns, the works (keep in mind, ALL drivers are up to date and its using the latest available BIOS). Oh and I can't trouble shoot it because they use all proprietary hardware.... Long story short, I'm just going to have to build my wife a new PC... Something that can handle her surfing Facebook, Youtube, Vudu, Netflix, and Hulu... I know, I know... those are extremely demanding programs but I'll just have to build her an Epyc machine or something... (Sarcasm) Just save your money and don't buy Lenovo brand....

Great speed, but limited upgrades + freezes

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I really like the size of this tower and the ease to open it up, plus it is super fast. However, there is limited space inside, only 2 SATA ports (both used when you get it), and the only open PCIe slot is complete inaccessible because the graphics card overhangs it. The HDD "bay" is only sized for 3.5" drives, and the optical drive seems to be a laptop drive, which limits is upgradability to Bluray. The number of USB ports is limited too. In my unit, I get freezes every few nights, so I will be exchanging it. Despite these flaws, I still find it to be very useful for most people. The graphics card is quite capable; I use it to drive a 50" Sony 4k TV and it handles it without issue. The processor has plenty of room for growth, and most people won't want to upgrade it. An SSD drive could be installed quite easily with some zip ties, and USB ports are less and less important as everything moves to wireless. The wireless in this machine is fast.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaCentre 720-18 desktop. This system has a total of six USB ports, remember, there are four USB ports behind the front side panel. With regard to the system freezing, obviously this should not occur. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. lenovo

I purchased this just yesterday for an excellent price. The Lenovo was easy to set up and it is fast as can be. I am quite sure that this computer is going to serve me well for years to come. If there is anything that I can find fault with it would be the placement of the usb ports. There are only two on the back of the tower and four under the door that opens in the front. I would have liked to see only a couple in the front and the rest on the back panel. But this is not a deal breaker. I also like the built in AC speed wireless as now I no longer need to use an external usb device and that frees up another usb port for me. After searching around a bit for towers and laptops, i am glad that I ran across this Lenovo at one of our local Best Buy stores. I was in the right place at the right time it seems.

I bought this during Black Friday to replace a 2012 vintage machine. I mostly use it for processing photos (LR, PS) and videos. It's plenty fast enough for me with these jobs. Plus typical internet activity. Very quiet. Can't hear it running at all. The only cons and reason I didn't give it 5 stars is: 1. Only 2 SATA ports which limits expansion. The case has the room so what's up with that? Lenovo going cheap on the MB I assume. It does support an M.2 SSD drive up to 250 GB. However I installed a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB Internal SATA SSD and the power connector to the DVD drive required some simple modification to work on the SSD. Needless to say the SSD really boosted the computer's performance. However the DVD drive is no longer hooked up nor have I needed to use it. Reason for not installing an m.2 drive on a card is I cashed in BB points and got the Samsung for about $120 and it is twice the capacity of the M.2. 2. In five months of ownership it has frozen on me twice requiring a power off reset. Rainbow snow to black screen. Overall I'm pleased with the purchase and would buy again at the price I paid for it, $649. However I wouldn't pay much more than that considering the 2 flaws above.

I was wondering if I needed to upgrade the PSU. I want to add an RX 580 8GB card and the graphics card states 600 watt or larger. I believe this is 400 watts. I am aware of the pin adapter I need to make an alternate PSU work. if someone at Lenovo can please answer this question would be appreciated.

Pro's: Good specs at a decent price. Has just about everything you need right out of the box. Easy set up. Con's: Only 2 USB connections on back of machine and they are only USB 2.0. There are 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 on the front of the computer. Limited upgrade capability. No available SATA connectors. These is a M.2 SSD connector on the motherboard but no mount included to secure it to the case and the mount is back ordered on the Lenovo supplied site with no other way to get it. It is a fast machine as long as you know what you are getting into.

I bought this PC when it was an open box sale and it was worth it, in over 3 months it's been able to hold up to the expectations I've put it with but I wasn't satisfied with the graphics card so I decided I wanted to upgrade it. I'm having trouble finding out if this PC is compatible with the EVGA 1050ti I was looking at. Overall great build and extremely quiet, but if you keep it on for 5+ hours the PC does begin to get a little hot.

    Fast machine, BIOS lacking virtualization

Bought this box and love the speed and graphics for the price for working from home. MAJOR FAIL on Lenovo's part when I found out that the BIOS does not support virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V, Virtual Box, etc.) as that is how I VPN into work. I am not a gamer, so now I have a machine that I can check Facebook, my email and bank balance really fast. Like having a Ferrari and running in only 1st gear. Spent an hour with Lenovo Tech Support and very disappointed they were clueless to the issue. Should have done more home work before I bought this machine, as this issue was documented on their support forum. Bad on Lenovo!

An open M.2 nvme SSD slot was available and after I easily installed the blazing fast Samsung EVO SSD there, it showed unbelievable performance, together with Ryzen 7. Games could be smoothly run at Ultra settings. Feel very lucky to get such a high performance system at the the open box price of under $700, without any visible defects at all.

Had the system about a week and have had nothing but trouble with the wireless. Connect once and recieved a 186.0 mbps using Xfinity Speed Test once. Then the connection dropped and would reconnect.and then loose the connection. I rebooted and am currently running at 1.89 mbps. My wife's Lenova laptop is just humming away without a hich, so it is not the ISP. Sorry Lenova, you are getting this one back.

I asked the service people if this computer could handle my adding a second hard drive to this unit before purchase and was told that I could. But when I opened the unit at home I found that there was no available SATA port and no available power connection. There is in fact no way to add a second hard drive to the unit. I would not have purchased the unit knowing this. The unit runs fine as is, but I am very disappointed in the service staff.
