Does Not Power On After An Accidental Drop.

I have been searching for a reliable 2-in-1 tablet for a while now to use while traveling and my search was finally over when this Duet was released and had several positive reviews about its performance and display. After unboxing it, I was a bit concerned that the corners were exposed as they are not protected by the included magnetic backing or the detachable keyboard when folded and no other covers were available to buy for added protection. On my first travel within a month of my purchase it got dropped from under 3 feet on a hard surface while the backing was still on and keyboard folded, the screen cracked due to impact on one of the exposed corners and it wouldn’t turn on anymore. Now it’s a useless piece of hardware unless I put ~$300 to get it repaired by Lenovo. I could have continued using it with the cracked screen if only it powered on like many smartphones do. Looks like my search for a good 2-in-1 is not over yet. With its current design, I wouldn’t recommend it for travel, especially since TSA requires laptops and tablets to be taken out of their carry bags for screening and accidental drops could happen while rushing through to catch the flight.

I was on the phone all day about the so-called accessories for this tablet. Lenovo has not yet manufactured the "cover" that attaches to the back of the kickstand. Seems like a rush job to get it in stores so they can make money. And I don't think that the USI pen that Lenovo sells will fit in that so-called cover, so I'm on the fence about returning this item. If this is the case and you can't get the accessories, I might as well purchase the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+

A bargain and gem for its price

This item is a hidden gem and bargain. The Snapdragon 7c62 (ARM family) is up for the task, and the 13.3-inch display is sharp, colorful, and easy on the eyes. 8GB is plenty of RAM for Web Browsing, Email, and even quick tasks when connected to my work network. The battery life is superb, anywhere from 8-10 hours depending on the load. There are four speaker grills on the sides, sound is good for a device of this size and shape. The magnetically attached keyboard has a flat feel to it, but nothing that you can't get used to on a tabletop, though the design makes it awkward on a lap itself. In tablet mode, it is easy to hold, the fabric exterior has a great feel and look to it. At only 2.5 pounds, it almost begs to be your traveling companion. Nothing in life is perfect. The WiFi is only at WiFi 5, not a deal-breaker but still a noticeable lacking. There are only 2 USB-C ports, no HDMI or audio jack. Again, nothing that an adapter or dock couldn't compensate for. Overali I am happy with this purchase

Duet 5 - Great for the money for everyday use

This really is an odd "laptop", with it having a ARM mobile processor, and running chrome OS with a laptop aspect ratio it puts it in a very weird spot, because you're pretty much stuck running android apps and hoping the scaling works as it should (which you have to get lucky for that to work since most apps seem to be designed for a tablets aspect ratio), or your stuck using web apps which definitely limits your options. Also, side loading is pretty much useless since you can only flash ARM distros to my knowledge and then you still have tons of compatibility issues there as well. The processors performance is decent though, but it can definitely become sluggish with more pages or apps open. The kickstand also is almost useless if it's not on a flat surface. The duet 5 definitely has its pros though, the OLED screen is very good for the price, though it could get a little bit brighter. Durability seems good so far, though the magnetic backing piece gets worn out, but replacements are still available. Keyboard is okay, but it definitely has some give to it, especially if your using it on your lap. Overall if you need just a basic laptop for working on excel sheets, emails, web browsing, or watching movies/videos, the Duet 5 is a great choice for the price, but if you're a power user that needs it for anything else, you may find your options limited by the architecture.

I really wish I could give this 4.5. Because, after spending a couple weeks with the Duet 5, I'm pretty happy with it. But there are a few caveats I have that are worth mentioning. Pros: + Screen is gorgeous, very bright and vibrant. I personally don't agree at all with the reviewer who says the pixel density of 1080p is too low for a 13" screen; I think for 98% of people, it's absolutely enough. Great for reading books and comics. + So far, performance has been as good as I'd hoped. Zero issues updating CMS pages and Jira boards for my job. No performance issues with video, no noticeable lag when having 15-20 chrome tabs open. + *Love* the folio keyboard case design-wise, and very happy it came with the tablet. The instant transition from tablet to laptop mode when the tablet clips onto the keyboard feels very smooth. + Battery life is good. Lasts the whole day without issue. Cons: -Tablet by itself is noticeably heavy. Took some time to adjust. - Keyboard is fine but touchpad seems to "stick" sometimes when clicking on rare occasion. Not enough to be a huge problem but annoying. - Sound is...okay but a little disappointing. Can be a little tinny but is acceptable. Lack of an audio jack sucks, though, so the alternative is either an adapter or bluetooth. - Supports USI pen styluses but doesn't come with one. I think it might include one in the international version but not the US version. Overall, some minor quibbles, but certainly a great buy for $500 and does exactly what I needed it to do.

I purchased open box "excellent condition, looks new" upon arrival, box was pretty beat up, and had a staple poked through down into back of keyboard. Keyboard itself was filthy, with several stains on back, and front had dirt in creases around trackpad and some keys. Screen was dirty and smudged, even fingerprints on camera lens. Chromebook might be great, but so far im too mad at the description even care.

Better Than Standard Cheaper Than Plus

To-date there are only two Chromebook tiers: Standard and Plus the Duet 5 falls in between. The Snapdragon 7cG2 is fast enough get any basic functions done and do some light gaming. 8GB of RAM is good to have a lot of tabs open in the browser, but have too many apps open it can start to get a little laggy. The keyboard is great and the trackpad works well. At MSRP these were a little high not to get the "Plus" treatment, but on-sale I couldn't pass it up. The 13.3 inch wide screen is great for having two apps side-by-side and the OLED works great in all lighting conditions. Battery life is pretty good to and if you are off of WiFi it really stretches out. I'm not the biggest fan of the split stand style as it is not as conducive for being on the lap, but its not the worst I have used but I definitely prefer traditional clamshell style. If you can find one still, its a fantastic option over a Standard tier.

More useful than an Android tablet but not perfect

I really like the screen brightness and resolution and the keyboard and trackpad are very pleasant to use. Speakers are decent but do not get overly loud. The size and weight are in the sweet spot of sturdy and firm but not too heavy. Being able to run web, ChromeOS, Android, and some Linux apps side-by-side is pretty amazing, when it works. I really like that it will be supported with software updates for years to come, especially compared to Android tablets I've owned in the past. Battery life is amazing - I can run this of and on for days without charging. Some issues: - You can't enable tablet mode while the keyboard is attached and the keyboard does not slide around behind the screen like a Surface Pro or other convertible. - The back cover with kickstand is attached via magnets, so sometimes it pulls off completely when all I want is to open the kickstand. - Android and Linux VMs do not always work or may take a while to boot up. Could be a limitation of the middle-tier processor and RAM resources. Overall, this was a great buy when it was on sale and compared to other Android or iPad tablets in the same price range. However, do your research on what a Chromebook is and what ChromeOS can and cannot do before you choose it. I did and I'm glad I did so I was well prepared for the pros & cons of the ecosystem before ever using it.

**Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook 2-in-1 Laptop Review (User Perspective)** As someone who’s always on the go, I was looking for a lightweight, versatile device that could handle my daily tasks without breaking the bank. After using the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook for a few weeks, I can confidently say it’s been a game-changer for my workflow and entertainment needs. Here’s my honest take as a real user: --- ### **First Impressions** When I unboxed the Duet 5, I was immediately impressed by how sleek and lightweight it is. The aluminum finish gives it a premium feel, and the detachable keyboard and kickstand make it super versatile. It’s so compact that I can easily toss it into my bag without feeling weighed down—perfect for my busy lifestyle. --- ### **Display: A Visual Treat** The 13.3-inch OLED screen is hands-down one of the best features of this device. The colors are vibrant, the blacks are deep, and everything looks crisp and clear. I’ve used it for streaming Netflix, browsing the web, and even editing photos, and the display never disappoints. The touchscreen is responsive, and while I don’t have the stylus, I can see how it would be a great addition for note-taking or drawing. --- ### **Performance: Smooth for Everyday Use** I opted for the 8GB RAM version, and it’s been more than enough for my needs. Chrome OS is fast and intuitive, and the Duet 5 handles multitasking like a champ. I regularly have multiple tabs open, along with a few Android apps, and it doesn’t skip a beat. That said, if you’re planning to do heavy video editing or gaming, this might not be the right device for you. But for web browsing, document editing, and streaming, it’s perfect. --- ### **Battery Life: All-Day Power** The battery life is phenomenal. I can easily get through a full day of work (around 10-12 hours) without needing to recharge. Whether I’m typing up reports, attending Zoom meetings, or binge-watching my favorite shows, the Duet 5 keeps up without any issues. It’s such a relief not to constantly worry about finding an outlet. --- ### **Keyboard and Trackpad: Surprisingly Good** I was a bit skeptical about the detachable keyboard at first, but it’s actually quite comfortable to type on. The keys have a nice tactile feel, and I can type for hours without any discomfort. The trackpad is small but accurate, and I’ve had no issues navigating through Chrome OS. That said, if you’re used to a full-sized laptop keyboard, it might take a little getting used to. --- ### **Portability: Perfect for On-the-Go Use** This is where the Duet 5 truly shines. It’s incredibly lightweight and portable, making it ideal for travel or working from a coffee shop. I love that I can easily detach the keyboard and use it as a tablet for reading or watching videos. The kickstand is sturdy and holds the device securely, even on uneven surfaces. --- ### **Software: Chrome OS is a Winner** As someone who relies heavily on Google apps like Drive, Docs, and Gmail, Chrome OS is a perfect fit for me. The integration is seamless, and I love having access to the Google Play Store for Android apps. I’ve downloaded a few productivity apps, and they work flawlessly. The only downside is that some Android apps aren’t optimized for larger screens, but it’s a minor inconvenience. --- ### **Drawbacks: A Few Quirks** No device is perfect, and the Duet 5 has a few quirks. The lack of a headphone jack is a bit annoying, especially when I want to use wired headphones. I’ve had to rely on Bluetooth earbuds, which work fine but aren’t always ideal. Additionally, the Snapdragon processor, while efficient, isn’t the most powerful. It’s great for everyday tasks, but don’t expect it to handle heavy workloads or demanding apps. --- ### **Final Thoughts** Overall, the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 5 Chromebook has exceeded my expectations. It’s lightweight, versatile, and perfect for anyone who needs a portable device for work, school, or entertainment. The stunning OLED display, long battery life, and seamless Chrome OS experience make it a joy to use. While it’s not a powerhouse, it’s more than capable of handling everyday tasks with ease. If you’re looking for an affordable, portable 2-in-1 that doesn’t compromise on quality, the Duet 5 is an excellent choice. It’s become my go-to device for both work and play, and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. **Rating: 4.5/5** *Highly recommended for students, professionals, and casual users who value portability and simplicity.*

I was able to snag this on sale for $360 so please keep that in mind. I was searching for a tablet initially and was close to pulling the trigger on a Samsung S7 FE until I stumbled across this Chromebook on sale. My use of the device is very casual. While the screen is only 1080p, the contrast provided by the OLED makes the screen feel reasonably premium. I use this strictly for light browsing and video streaming which it handles quite well. I notice a bit of slowdown when I have roughly 6 or more Chrome tabs open. Speakers are just loud enough indoors and although I haven't tried, likely too quiet for outdoor use. This applies to the screen as well. Just bright enough indoors and likely not bright enough in the sun. Battery life is quite good and it does not seem to suffer from massive battery loss while sleeping. One negative that can't be overlooked is the lack of face recognition or fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device despite having a forward facing camera. Not sure how this feature wasn't included on a modern device. I really appreciate the included back cover/stand and keyboard which come as two separate pieces. I only used the keyboard for testing purposes and it is quite impressive for such a thin form factor. The back cover attaches magnetically and holds well. The kickstand is firm in adjusting and inspires confidence. Overall I'm very impressed with the overall package. Build quality feels premium and using the device feels "good enough". I would recommend this device even at full price to anyone who is looking for a tablet and keyboard combination. On sale it frankly feels like a steal.

I like that this is very portable, it can physically be mistaken for a surface pro laptop at a glance. 13.3 inch screen is the perfect travel size. The battery life lasts about 11 or 12 hours. Even though the hardware specs look very low-end, It doesn't feel sluggish at all due to the ChromeOS operating system being lightweight and able to utilize the hardware well. This tablet/laptop is great for those that like to browse the web, stream videos, and prefer to exclusively use the Google Ecosystem. It also has the Google play store so you can download all the apps a typical Android phone can. Its like an Android tablet with a keyboard, except ChromeOS has a few more features and the menus look a little different than Android. I use this 2 in 1 tablet/laptop to browse websites, watch youtube, watch streaming services like HBO Max, Disney+, Prime Video..ect. I check my Gmail email, I use Google calendar, Google keep, and todoist to organize my week on this device. I use the free Google suite to create basic word documents, spreadsheets, and PowerPoints if necessary. You can even setup the Chrome Remote extension on this tablet/laptop and on your primary Windows computer at home and be able to remote into your primary home computer and use it. Also, be aware that ChromeOS does rely on internet Access heavily to access files on the Google cloud and run the apps, but you do have the option to set most of the apps to "work offline" mode which will save your files locally on the computer to work on if you don't have internet access at times.
