What's Not To Like With Lenovo Chromebook Duet?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've had the Duet for a couple weeks now. And for the most part, I'm very happy with this chromebook. I need to say this because there seems to be some misconceptions about this chromebook. This chromebook is not(and this is my own personal opinion) for children, or people who are rough with their electronics. This is for an adult, who isn't rough with their gear. If you need a chromebook for your child for school, manufacturers do sell them, and will withstand the rigors of a child using a chromebook. The specs are perfect for this tablet. Storage capacity 128gb, screen resolution 1920 X 1200, IPS display. 10+ hours battery life, 2 n 1 design, touch screen. What other chromebook or tablet that has those specs that you can find for under $300 and if found on sale, like I did; $229? Those specs on another chromebook or tablet will run you over $500, and those do not have a back cover or keyboard, but sold separate. I'm on the fence if I need a USI pen for my Duet, I've not needed one before, so as an accessory, should be optional. Yes the Duet only has one USB type C port, but I looked at Android and Ipad tablets, and those only have 1 port. Some Android tablet do have an external micro SD card slot, but not apple. I have a USB type C adapter that I can plug in whatever I need at the time. The 128gb storage is plenty enough for me. I've seen chromebooks that have 32 to 64gb storage going for more money than the Duet. The more I thought about having extra ports, the more I realize I don't really need them all. The 128gb storage is plenty for me, I don't plann to save pics or videos on the Duet. That's what my Samsung Note 20 Ultra is for. I use a bluetooth Logitech M535 mouse and works great. So no need for a USB port for a mouse. The screen is quite bright and if you dim the screen to say 70-80%, your battery lasts for stated 10 hours or more. It has dual speakers, again something found on more expensive chromebooks or tablets. The sound is loud enough for me and I think sounds perfect. The size, 10.1" is what I like for portability and and the keyboard can be taken off if you need a tablet instead. I did try some other chromebooks that turns around 360 degrees, but I don't like the mushy feeling of the keys on the bottom when I had it in tablet mode, At just 2 lbs, it's not all that heavy, what other chromebooks for under $300 weigh in at 2 lbs? Yes tablets do, but if you add in a keyboard and cover, well it's going to weigh close to what the overall weight is of the Duet. And chromebooks will weigh 2.5lbs or more. Lenovo came out with the Duet that I wanted back 3 years ago, in a 10.1" tablet with a keyboard and back cover included, instead of purchasing each item separately. The Duet works for me, I'm not hard on my electronics equipment, I don't have a child that needs to use also for school work. All the functions works for me as well. Yes the keyboard takes a bit to get used to, but it sure beats not having a keyboard and having to always type on the screen. Only thing I wish is if Lenovo came out with this chromebook in 11.1", but that would be the only gripe. Only other accessory I will buy for the Duet is an anti-glare screen cover. I did get the Geek Squad warranty for 1 year. Since it's a new item, if any electronic or mechanical problem arises; I'm covered. The Duet security updates is for 8 years, compared to some other chromebooks over $300 that are only 4-6 years. This tablet is not for everyone. If you're looking for the most portability, or transform from a chromebook to tablet, this is the best thing going now, even if you're on a budget. I already have my I7, 512gb Windows laptop. But I find myself using the Duet more often. I think this is a fun laptop/chromebook/tablet. Lenovo hit this one out of the park! It's not perfect in many aspects, but what is that is under $300 these days? I feel with this Chromebook Duet, I'm able to have my cake and eat it too.

I really like this chromebook since I can use it as a laptop, tablet and use a USI Stylus. But sadly I cant use the stylus as much anymore because part of the screen cracked

    How Do I Buy This?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I don't have much to comment on because my biggest complaint is that this keeps bouncing in and out of stock, (even while I'm checking out) and I can't purchase it! It's not available within 250 miles of where I live and it isn't available to ship to my house? And to be clear, I live in a Twin Cities suburb, not the boonies. How do I buy this?!

    Many problems

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I haven't really had a very good expirience so far with this chromebook. When I am on it it just sometimes shuts of randomly which is very annoying. Also when I got to a website almost everytime is says "no internet" and I have to keep pressing the space bar for it to load. I don't know if that is just my internet problems, but it sure is very annoying. Also the mouse pad always gets stuck, so when I move it around it always gets stuck down and drags things with it (It's hard to explain). I usually use the keyboard all the time, but something that is very annoying is that it always falls off and gets undone. This chromebook was not right for me and my needs, but I hope if you decide to buy it then it will work for you :)

    "Certified" open box means diddly/squat

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this item as a "certified" open box in excellent condition Per Best Buy's description of what this means, a certified open box item in excellent condition is like new, without scratches, and "professionally cleaned." What I received had finger prints *all over* the screen, had clearly been extensively used, and not "professionally cleaned" at all. What bugs me about this is that if the certifiers didn't even bother to wipe down the screen, how can one have *any* confidence that there certification means anything at all?? I contacted Best Buy and was basically told to bring it in to be cleaned - which doesn't in the least address the concern I just raised.

    Horrible experience, shortlived toy

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Worst tablet experience ever. It would probably work okay if you only answer emails and explore the internet. Does not work well with WordPress or anything technical. After less than 6 months, an automatic OS update crashed the system. All attempts at recovery failed. I would be happy to throw it away, except it was the recovery device for a business account, which is now locked. Stick with Lenovo laptop for your computing needs.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo Chromebook Duet and the Chrome Operating System. The Chromebook Duet is compatible with Google Play Store APPs. We recommend you check with the specific APPs software publisher's web site for their compatibility with the Chrome operating system and the minimum/recommended hardware requirements (Is a Graphics card required, the processor speed and the minimum required system RAM and the minimum available hard drive space) to run their program, then compare those requirements to this system's configuration. If the APPs you want to use are compatible with the Chrome Operating System but the issues continue, try resetting your Chromebook back to original factory settings. Here is a link to instructions for doing this:  https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/183084?hl=en. If the issue still continues, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support for Chromebooks for additional help at: 800-426-7378. Lenovo

There have been minor issues with this device - but the kicker was when the WiFi just stopped working. Hard reset; system recovery; nothing works. Should a Chromebook (reliant on the internet) have a faulty WiFi card after a year and a half?
