Customers commend the Ideapad Gaming 3 for its strong performance, especially in gaming, and its upgradable RAM, making it a good value for the price. However, some users point to shortcomings in battery life and storage capacity as areas for improvement. The screen brightness and potential overheating issues were also noted as concerns by a few customers. While generally considered easy to use, some users suggest considering upgrades to the power supply and storage for optimal performance.

If you catch it on sale, it’s worth every penny

At $900 dollars, this is harder to justify. At $600, it’s a steal. If you’re technically inclined, this is a great deal if you can catch it on sale. It’s impossible to find a 3050ti equipped laptop for under $1000. Yes, this laptop is a little lite on memory and storage space, but those are easily upgraded for not much more money. For about $750 dollars total, you could have a laptop with similar specs to those that cost 1100-1200 dollars.

Good gaming laptop. Updated storage with another m.2 ssd and RAM to 32GB dual channel. The hardest part of the upgrades was figuring out how to remove the bottom cover. Runs the games I want to play well. You will not be running AAA titles in the highest settings, but that's ok with me. 60fps (usually higher) @1080p is all I need.

Battery life is unfortunately not good. The screen doesn't go below 120hz unless you mod a special resolution for 60 with CRU. However the rest of the laptop is sublime. Great keyboard, screen, performance. Make sure to put in some cheap 3200 DDR4 laptop RAM for a performance boost. Cheap on eBay these days.

Great performance. Battery dies fast. Mine lasted 4 hours while gaming. For regular use, you can turn down the performance mode. I also purchased am extra Ram stick and two years of accident protection. My wife dropped my last one after only 4 months of ownership. I bought this on sale, so it was only $900 with the added protection.

I've had this laptop for about a year now, and it's still running strong. The 3050Ti runs fine with any game, but it's not going to be running modern releases with max graphics.
I don't really know how well this runs with the initial parts, but I highly recommend buying another 8GB ram stick and upgrade to 1TB of SSD. Upgrading with this laptop was easier than I expected (and it was my first time)--there's room for another ram stick and a full M.2 + mSATA.
Like with any gaming laptop, this thing is loud and hot. Being a gaming laptop, it's not the best when it's not plugged in either. It's battery life makes it difficult to bring outside without constant charge, but it does great otherwise. The display is a little dim, but it's nothing that will be an issue unless taken outside.
Overall, it's still a great laptop, especially if you get it when it's one sale!

I bought this laptop for my brother and he has loved it. Only issue is battery life since it only has a 45Wh battery but by changing a few settings we were able to get about 4 hours of usage for him to do his homeschooling. Gaming laptops dont usually get full performace of the changer anyways so he is usually plugged in making the battery irreleant.
There is decent upgradability. There are two ram slots and adding another stick of ram gave a big performance boost.
You also have the choice between adding a second nvme ssd or a sata ssd but not both. I was really impressed by was the fact that lenovo included a tray and cable to hook up a sata drive. The wifi card was also easily upgradable.
Obviously at this price point you're not going to be getting super premium materials like aluminum but the laptop still feels solid (waaaayy better than my dell G5 SE that I got a few years ago). With a second stick of ram this is a great performer for the price.

While it comes with an insultingly small ssd and 8gb of ram - those are the easiest things to swap on a rig. It is very easily upgradable. I immediately upgraded to 16gb of ram. Plan on utilizing the free second ssd port here soon. This was a great deal at the $599 price. I wouldnt do it at $899 though. Thats too high for its short comings. I will say the screen is pretty mid tier. Its brightness is low and just pretty muddied. If you get this plan on a monitor because youll need it. It has a good selection of ports. Id have liked to seen one more usb port but i understand why not. Bought one of these for my son then my old 1060 rig died and i thought this was a cheap upgrade to keep me going for the near and mid future. This runs d4,sea of thieves, american truck sim, ready or not - all on highest settings just fine after the ram upgrade. It NEEDED that ram upgrade to even run ready or not.

This laptop is a diamond in the rough. Only downside is that the battery life sucks, but I keep it docked most of the time, since I like it hooked to a monitor for gaming. Got it on sale, back in May, 2023, and is still my current daily usage laptop for everyday tasks to games. This laptop will get the job done by adding another ssd storage, and another stick of RAM. I bought the exact same brand/type of RAM via Amazon for $15, and made use of the additional m.2 slot by adding a 2tb ssd. So happy with my purchase.

Bought this laptop for less than $500. Immediately added 32gb ram and a hybrid HDD. It's great for a budget laptop. If you're using the performance gaming mode for any length of time it will get warm and the power supply gets very hot. Lacking on USB connections.

Great Deal When On Sale

-Runs modern games like Halo Infinite at respectable settings.
-5600H is a great mobile processor.
-3050ti runs everything I throw at it.
-120hz screen is good.
-8GB ram is upgradable to 32GB (DDR4 3200)
-NVME storage slot (Need to purchase a standoff on amazon to mount it properly) Installed 1TB NVME.
-Comes with a 2.5 HDD/SDD caddy and cable.
Included Power Supply is 135W and at max load will use some battery then recharge. To get around this, I ordered the 170w charger from Lenovo (Roughly $80 on sale) The 135w charger goes on eBay for around $50 bucks so selling it and putting it towards the charger is roughly $35 bucks when all said and done. Minor inconvenience but I chose this over the Gigabyte model due to the build quality and having better support. This laptop is also very light.
After upgrades (RAM $85, PSU $35, NVME Drive $60, Standoff $5) I paid $765. Not bad for what you get. This laptop is pretty nice (when on sale). I would recommend it even with the annoyance of having to sell and purchase a higher rated PSU. Hopefully Lenovo will start including the 170W charger based on the feedback here.
I noticed there is an connector labeled RGB on the motherboard near the battery. Might be able to swap in the RGB version of the keyboard.
Hope everyone finds this helpful.
Happy Holidays!

As someone who has financial struggles, I was looking for a cheaper low-end gaming PC so I could play games with my friends and just chill after work. This PC is definitely a great budget option if you want reliable performance for a wide range of games! I've been decently surprised so far although I would be sure to check if this PC can handle a specific game if you're unsure.
RAM and SSD upgrades may be recommended but you can definitely live without them! The upgrading process is very smooth and there's a lot of resources online to help you out if you're interested. :)

This thing rocks. The performance you get for the price is increidble. Can play any game. Demanding games at mid settings. Games like DayZ, Rust? No problem. Been on it every day for a year + and going strong as ever.

Mostly echoing what others have said. Yes, you should add another 8GB of RAM and a second SSD (which should cost about $100 for both and there's a YouTube video showing how to easily make those upgrades on this very model). Add a couple of bucks for a bag of NVMe stand-off screws if you don't already have one, and this is still a great value if you can get it on sale. I've played games like Halo Infinite, Spider Man Remastered, Forza Horizon 5 and Plague Tale 2 with no problems -- maybe not on Ultra settings, but Medium/High still looks really good.

This is an awesome laptop. Let’s face it guys a lot of us just want to have something that’s fairly light, not super “loud” both metaphorically(crazy rob colors) and literally. For the price I felt it was great. I felt like I outgrew my MacBook Air m1 and got this to replace it. And coming from a base model air to this is a huge jump in power, yeah this laptop has fans, they’re not too obnoxious and you can set it to quiet mode when you’re just browsing the web or other light tasks. The only issue I’d say I’ve noticed with this laptop is it only comes with 8gb ram. Which isn’t even that big a deal tbh. If you’re buying a budget laptop be realistic it’s not going to be perfect. With that being said if you’re like me, maybe you haven’t gamed in a while, and you’ve been so busy trying to master a skill, working, whatever it may be. But you WANT to get back into gaming and enjoy it like you used to. This laptop is perfect. Not gonna break the bank, it’s going to perform AMAZING for our standards. And it doesn’t look ridiculous like it’s trying to be a race car/laptop maybe you’re just looking for a solid laptop to work on… that can also play cyberpunk and you’re also not the type to care about the frame rate being 300 fps, or that you can’t run it on “realer than reality” settings. This is the perfect device for you. Just buy more ram and you’re good to go. Maybe don’t go ham and buy 32gb of ram if you’re not editing videos and doing lots of photoshop, 16gb will do just fine. Anyways I might’ve gotten off track. In summary you’ll probably love this laptop, great workhorse/casual gaming PC, buy more ram. That is all

I rarely feel like I can give a laptop 5 stars. They are a testament to how brilliant people are in terms of their design and function, but for my purposes, they are just a more convenient device for writing papers and presentations. This laptop, however, encourages one to move beyond simple computing and really explore all the technology these devices have to offer!
From a sleek design to incredible speed and performance, I’m no longer as productive as I once was. I don’t play super taxing games, but this laptop works extremely well for my purposes (both work and entertainment).
5 stars, all the way.

I’m very happy with my purchase of the Lenovo - Ideapad Gaming 3 laptop. It’s a great value for the money and it has a lot of potential for upgrading. I added 8 GB more RAM and 2 TB SSD and it’s perfect now. It runs fast and smooth, and it can handle any game I throw at it. The display is bright and crisp, and the keyboard is comfortable and responsive. The battery life is decent, but I usually keep it plugged in when gaming. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a budget-friendly gaming machine.

This was the cheapest laptop with a decent RTX GPU I could find. The system is well balanced with a Ryzen 5 5600H and RTX 3050 ti (mobile). The storage is a 256GB M.2 drive, which is fine for a boot drive, but you will need more storage. It also comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM. Again, you need more for gaming. It has a white backlit keyboard, no RGB. The screen resolution is 1080P, with a default 120 mhz refresh rate.
I ran a passmark bench test first thing, and it severely underperformed. Immediately after that, I installed a 16 GB kit of DDR4. I reran the bench and the scores were dramatically improved. I didn't have a 2nd storage drive to install, so just the memory upgrade for me. I will say, that is the most important upgrade, and is vital. You need to upgrade the RAM for sure. After a day or so of flawless operation, it started crashing and I had to return it. Geek squad couldn't get it fixed and recommended I go with a different brand.
