The Legion 5 15 inch gaming laptop moves where others fear to tread, combining industry-beating thermal efficiency that handles any configuration you can throw at it. Thermally tuned to perfection, the Legion Coldfront 2.0 system cools and dissipates heat via a dual-channel thermal mechanism of 67 liquid crystal polymer-coated fan blades and dedicated copper heat pipes. This will help you leave competition in the dust with the addition of Q Control 3.0, allowing you to manually select between Quiet, Balance and Performance thermal modes. And turn on the thrusters with Dual Burn support, pushing the CPU & GPU together for max performance in-game. Battle-ready performance, immersive experiences and seamless gameplay with Lenovo Vantage for Gaming. Choose performance mode for apps and games to calibrate automatically. Overclock CPUs and GPUs and use memory release to push frame rates to the limit. Downshift to Quiet Mode to save battery life or choose Balance Mode for normal use. Control it all in one place! I have had the laptop for a year and I have to say, it's amazing! The laptop is still fast and works at the same level as it was working when I bought it.
Granted, I only use it mostly to play computer games (I do my web browsing and netflix watching on my phone or tablet), 2-3 hours on every weekday, 6 hours or so hours on weekend days/days off. I haven't had any issues with being unable to play any intensive games, which is nice.
There are only 3 problems that I have with this computer.
1. It only has 512 GB of memory and I have a lot of games which means that I can't have them all installed at the same time. The memory can be expanded but so far, I just haven't had the time and patience to figure out how to do it and what exactly I need to buy.
2. The battery is very bad- about 20-30 minutes when you're playing an MMO, less if you're playing something more intensive like Fallout 4 but given that I mostly use my laptop at home, to me, that's ok. Specs and price are more important to me than battery time and memory.
3. The laptop is very heavy which doesn't make it easy to lug around, but again, since I mostly use it at home, it's not a big deal.

I have been pleasantly surprised with just about every aspect of this laptop for the price I paid. Performance is amazing for 1k, graphics are top in that respect as well. The battery life isn't fantastic but since I am rarely away from an outlet that hasn't presented any issues. I would recommend this to anyone needing a high functioning laptop that allows them to play their favorite games when needed.

Great Machine for the Bucks

I have always been a fan of the Lenovo Think Pads and that is what I originally wanted to buy. However, for the same BANG this machine gives you for $1099, the think pad would come in at well over $2000. The Legion 5 gives great performance and only sacrifices the bomb-proof chassis that comes with the Thinkpad.
I do have two complaints, however, but they have more to do with the marketing of this machine, not the performance or quality.
1) The specs and advertising of this machine lead one to believe the potential for memory upgrade caps out at 16 GB. This is absolutely untrue. The memory in this machine can be upgraded to 32GB at 3200mhz. I had to call Lenovo to find this out.
This misinformation caused me to buy two 8GB sticks for a memory upgrade, where, had I known it was possible, I would have purchased 2 16's and called it a day.
2) This machine is equipped with a second drive bay that will accept a SATA HDD or a SATA SSD. That is in the advertising; however, what the marketing doesn't tell us is that there is also an empty PCIe port that will accept an additional NVMe M.2 SSD drive. Again, I had to do a bit of research and make a phone call to Lenovo to find this out. And fortunately with this one, I found out in time. I just installed a 1TB NVMe SSD and not I have tonnes of fast, energy efficient storage.
Both of these points would have been nice to know before going in, because any second thoughts i had about buying this machine were based on the advertised limit to memory expansion and the requirement to go with an old-school SATA drive for memory expansion.
I think this computer is a great machine for a pretty decent price, but I think Lenovo cold be losing potential customers die to the inaccurate information in the published stats and advertising.

Odd to buy a gaming laptop for one who doesn't play games that often, but this Lenovo Legion 5 was simply the best sub $1k laptop by far (it was on sale when we got it.) There are so many great things that make this the perfect all-arounder:
1. The display and dedicated graphics produce an incredible picture. True 120hz refresh and true Full HD produce incredible clarity and detail without being oversaturated, contrasty, or overly bright. Pure eye candy without eye strain.
2. The chassis design is more ridged than similarly priced convertible laptops, and the fan and ventilation design keep everything cool and quiet. I like how the screen is mounted a bit forward of the back to keep the heat away from the display.
3. And the m.2 SSD cold-boots in 6 seconds (first m.2 we've ever owned, so yea, wow!)
We fiddled with keyboard back-lighting and settled on a steady blue - very nice against the matte gray. The 6 core i7 10750H is excellent - able to handle streaming or photo editing with ease. Sure it would have been better with 16gb RAM, buy at least they left an open slot (and I'll likely upgrade it soon.)
I do wonder why Lenovo doesn't take everything here and market it as an entertainment laptop - perhaps with a Blu-ray or DVD drive and an aluminum finish. Just a thought. Anyway, we're extremely pleased with this laptop.

Got this on sale for 949.99 I will be honest about a few things the screen is 120 hz that’s perfect! Thermals could be a bit better does have room to upgrade to either one 2.5 inch sata drive or one NVME m.2 drive kind of disappointed they manufactured so you couldn’t add both. From what I’ve read yes you can add two sticks of 16gb of ram but be warned I tried with g skill dual channel 16gb ram at 2667mhz and I had issues like MAJOR issues I had to revert back to 16gb of ram and the machine ran like a freaking champ! Blows away AAA games the 10gen i7 it’s phenomenal and when comparing to the ryzen 7 4800h it doesn’t have the weird glitchy issue where some Vulcan games would freeze for 5-10 seconds at a time

Amazing gaming performance for the price (got on sale for $900)
Coming from an 8th gen core i7 to the 10th gen 10750H is night and day.
The only con is that gaming laptops are still coming with 8GB today..... in 2021. Unacceptable.
Everything else, such as the display and build quality are A+

It's great for the price. I have one button (9 key on number pad) that is not very responsive and I've experienced some mild lagging when doing mundane things. Battery life is not great but it charges quick. I'm not an intense gamer but the games I do play have run without any noticeable hitches (World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and League). One of the best price points I found in all my digging and I'm not disappointed.

It runs efficiently. I bought this computer for gaming, but my have used it for work because it runs so smooth. My only complaint is that it is heavy, but I knew that it was a brick when I purchased it. The battery is a bit meh, but I also was aware of this prior to purchase. This is a great- at-home laptop.

Works well to this day after 2 years of heavy use, I really cooked this thing while gaming. Possibly the most reliable laptop I've owned. Lenovo has stepped their game up in the passed 10 years. I upgraded the RAM however since 8gb isn't enough in 2023, super simple to upgrade.

The laptop works great out of the box - 512GB NVME storage is lightning fast, 8GB of RAM is enough for gaming. Performance is smooth and able to get 60+ FPS on Ultra/Very High settings (games like Forza, Gears 5, GTA V).
Has an open bay to add a 2.5 inch SATA drive and one open RAM slot to add another 8GB DDR4 2933mhz SODIMM. Max ram amount possible is 16GB - the stock RAM doesn’t have the best CL at 21. I suppose you can get a pair with CL 16 somewhere, but as it is, CL 21 is perfectly ok. Upgrading is very easy to do with the right tools.
Really good value at $1099, and a GTX 1660Ti. It’s basically as capable as a 2018 i7 with a GTX 1070 desktop. Good stuff.

I am so glad that I ended up choosing this computer, because in all truth, it was available in a store near me and I just have been waiting a lot of years to game again. But with GPUs being so hard to get, I decided to just get anything I could.
Luckily for me, this was one of the options I could.
I slapped another 8 GB stick of ddr4 in as soon as I took it out of the box, and with it's now 16gb of ram, it's 10th gen 6 core i7 processor, and it's 1660 ti with 6gb vram this thing is a beast.
Two beast fans surrounded by pipes that blow out on both sides near the rear and both ends of the back itself (4 points of ventilation). It runs at a decent temperature, surprisingly not getting too hot at all.
It can hold either 1- 2.5 inch drive or it can be replaced with an NVMe drive instead, but not both. That is the only upgrade I plan to still make.
Buy this. It's dope

Great gaming laptop with lots of power to spare. Yes its 3 generations from newest graphics cards but at the price point of $969 was a great a deal! Using the laptop around house has great Wi-Fi reception considering my router is 3 years old. Time to upgrade to new WIFI 6 to take advantage of this laptops Wi-Fi capabilities. Lots of YouTube videos are available showing how to upgrade the 3hour or so laptop battery to a larger internal battery. Also upgrade friendly for more ram and another SSD drive the standard or m.2 type slim. This I plan to do later. Fan can be a little distracting when gaming and not using headphones but doesn't turn on for regular web surfing and word processing tasks. Only gripe is the low brightness for this monitor as it washes out easily when I sit outside in my shaded patio. Look for the brighter monitor option if that's a deal breaker for you. The standard 720p camera is a little aged as well so I use a aftermarket camera mic setup for zoom videos for worship and family visits.

All the specs seemed good for a computer for the office and an entry level gamer. When I got it home, I realized just how heavy it was, 5.42, that extra pound from other laptops I looked at was significant. I plugged it in, charged it up, turned it on and proceeded to watch the battery life drain before my eyes. I swear I saw the battery gauge move like it was the gas gauge on a 1972 big block Chevy Pickup doing 70 down the highway! Bottom line, the battery lasted about 3-3.5 hours. If you don't mind those two things, it worked and looks great, but due to those two things, I returned it, I am sorry to say.
One other note, I use the ten key pad a lot. This has a medium size pad. I originally got it, because it was an 1/8" wider then most, but it wasn't wide enough. HP, makes a Spectre 15" Laptop, with a comparable NVIDIA card that has a normal 10 key pad.
