Customers are saying
Customers are impressed with the Legion Slim 5's performance and graphics capabilities, frequently praising its smooth operation and excellent visuals. Many appreciate the build quality and the option to upgrade RAM, although some find the battery life and weight to be shortcomings. The screen is generally well-received, but the relatively small storage capacity and occasional fan noise are common points of concern.

Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product I purchased and in 9 months only had power on issue, i had given for service in repairs center in Best Buy as it was under manufacturing warranty, after 2 weeks when the laptop came it was damaged, I refused to take it and told them I wont accept this even if you send it again for repair, the best buy staff were very unprofessional way handle my case and forcing that you will get only this after reapir only. I chat with best buy they said someone will contact me in 24 to 48 hours noone contact me for this issue.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After going through brand new 2 Lenovo Legion's due to screen and then keyboard malfunction in less than 3 weeks, I decided to go with my gut and get the ASUS. The main reason being that I have an ASUS laptop that I have had for the past 20 years & it still works to this day. I had heard good things about the legion but I did not see it. Sadly. Would not recoment.

Wait for a sale, but worth waiting for.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, don't buy the Ryzen 5 version. It has a worse display and configuration in general. I picked this up after doing a lot of research and I'm glad I did, but there are some caveats. It's outstanding value if you buy it on sale. The pro's: - Insanely easy to upgrade. Bottom panel is held on by ten screws. Pop it off, you can install a second M.2 2280 drive, and the memory is socketed, NOT soldered. 32GB of RAM can be had for under $100 and it's a worthwhile upgrade. - The GeForce RTX 4060 can be configured to effectively match a desktop RTX 4060, which is impressive. - That RTX 4060 is also attached to a MUX switch, which lets you get the full performance of the GPU. - The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS is virtually identical to the Ryzen 9 7940HS, and is comparable to Intel's 13th Gen processors in performance and much better in terms of heat and power despite having fewer cores. - The WQXGA display is excellent with deep black levels and rich color. 165Hz is a healthy refresh rate, and it supports VRR. - People who like tweaking their computers will have a field day. Lenovo's Vantage software is shockingly rich, letting end users configure the power limits for the CPU and GPU and even how that power is dynamically allocated between the two. It also allows for overclocking the GPU and VRAM, which is how you can get it to match a desktop 4060. - The keyboard has a little flex but is otherwise very good, and doesn't get too hot during gaming. - Quiet mode is very quiet. - Sale price puts it under $1,200 and at that point, it's a steal. - Visible icons over the rear ports are a nice touch. Con's: - When not operating in quiet mode, the fans get *loud.* It's a low whooshing but it's a very loud low whooshing. It looks like Lenovo erred on running the fans higher to reduce surface temperatures. - No Windows Hello features at all - no facial recognition, no fingerprint reader, nothing. - The speakers suuuuuuuuck. - The keyboard is good but the layout is iffy. If you want a 10-key in this form factor, this is probably the best you'll find, but I think the 10-key actually crowds the keyboard too much. - No USB Type-A ports on the sides, and the two USB-C ports are 10Gbps and not USB4. - I've had minor stability issues. Nothing earth shattering, nothing that isn't fixed by a reboot, but enough to be mildly annoyed. - Not exactly "Slim" and a little heavy. - Aluminum lid scratches shockingly easily. You can't have everything unless you're willing to pay through the nose for it. This laptop has reviewed extremely well on multiple sites, and for the money it's basically impossible to beat. Despite not having the marketing budget, AMD's current generation (7x4x) Ryzen processors are every bit as good as their Intel counterparts and in some ways (power/heat) far superior. Wait for a sale and upgrade the memory and storage yourself. But it's more than fast enough to be a daily driver and it'll play any and every game for a while yet.

Better than I thought, The Budget KING
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this on sale before Black Friday and WOW, I see why everyone proclaimed this model the budget King. 5600mt/s ram with both slots upgradeable, extra m.2/ssd slot and amazing screen given the price. I have a RTX 4090 desktop so I just wanted a laptop for work and light gaming and this has far surpassed all of my needs. The RTX 4060 performs better than I thought it would, its quieter than my ASUS Rog Strix I had from last year. I have to push it pretty hard to hear any loud fans but you do get some depending on your fab curve. Also nice to have the option of sticking with the 780m iGPU or using the 4060 if I need more power. The kb and trackpad are not the best but are not horrible either. Battery life is decent to great depending on how you use it. The only downside I would say that bothers me is the fact neither of the USB-C ports supports TB or USB4, just plain ol 10gbps and a PD port which works great with my UGreen 140w charger when on the go. Regardless, for $1099 or $999 on sale, you cant get a better laptop with more upgradeability and flexibility than this. Perfect for work and play without killing your pocket book.

Worth it!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually have low expectations when it comes to gaming laptops but this one blew my mind. i simply needed a laptop for work+ being able to play videogames but the performance was similar to my ps5, in fact, it replaced my ps5 lol. you get alot of bang for your buck on this one. Battery life is iffy, plugged in its amazing though. Fans: there are 2 different fan modes (3 if you count auto) theres quiet (self explanatory) and cooling which does make the fans louder depending on the game you are playing plus it increases performance. Screen: Its no OLED but its pretty similar, the colors are beautiful and pop but not an "in your face" way highly recommended for a budget laptop or in general go be honest.

Best value when on sale, great workstation.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The perfect laptop for me. It's got the efficiency from the AMD APU installed to last for hours on light work loads. The RTX 4060 is operating at a higher power consumption to offer the most out of it. It's a bit heavy, but like not outrageously heavy. I like that there's a 10key pad, even if it's a little thin. I like that there's a privacy camera toggle but would prefer if it was a shutter near the camera. Other pros: -You can adjust the power mode with a keyboard shortcut -It's virtually silent unless you're doing heavy gaming -It's got I/O on the back so it's easier to hide cables if using on a desktop to keep the immediate workspace clear -SD card reader! Though the card will stick out, it's nice that you don't need to use up a usb port for an adapter. -USB-C ports supposedly handle display over displayport via USB-C, one of which can deliver power though if you're using USB-C for display and gaming, you'll need to use the power brick or else you'll drain. -80wh battery -16gb ram already in dual channel. You could upgrade to 32 if you need it, but you're running 2x8GB out of the box, which is definitely better than 1x16GB. The Cons: -mine has a weird issue. I power on either from sleep or off state and it'll show the Lenovo splash screen, go black, and reboot again. The 2nd reboot has been successful but there's no telling if it'll even go to the 2nd reboot. Not sure what the issue is, but it's just a thing I've experienced. -windows LOVES shoving one drive down your throat. If you use it, then no problem. If you DON'T, then be careful what you select because it'll back up anything you put on the computer then hassle you that you're out of storage, even if you're using system storage. I got this open box, so it was under $1100. I don't think I'd recommend it for more than that new. It's great, and the display is wonderful, but $1500 hard to swallow if it's not on sale.

A decent all rounder with a few flaws.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A solid example of a quality laptop from Lenovo, decent build, temps stayed under control even under load, screen ratio and resolution are ideal for a workstation laptop, the keyboard could be a tad better but for a budget gaming laptop it's above average. Upgrading SSD and ram was a breeze. Pros: Upgradability in a modern unit Great color accuracy. Reasonable temperatures under heavy loads. Light weight for it's size and overall performance, lighter than prior models in its lineup. Cons. Short battery life averaging 2 hours. The choice of processor and GPU combination is less than ideal. Has points where it becomes sluggish under windows 11 (runs win10 like a dream) At a reasonable price I would highly recommend this model... But at original MSRP... it doesn't quite meet expectations.

||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop has been amazing in almost every way. Super solid in regards to gaming and handles everything from CoD to Slay the Spire without flaw. The biggest gripes that I had occurred within the first few weeks. This laptop would crash on almost a daily basis. I was ready to call it quits, but after updating the drivers it ran perfectly. Another few things to mention are battery life and the fan noise. I’m getting around 2-3 hours unplugged (not gaming and using the integrated GPU) just browsing and doing homework. Another thing is the fan noise, but it’s a gaming laptop pushing some serious performance so it’s a fair compromise. Overall, I love this laptop and would recommend it as long as you are aware of its limits.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So ive had a couple laptops over the last year from different brands and let me tell you…… this legion is far better than any other laptop i had so far. Now some legions come with problems ! Mine came with a minor one which the AMD driver app wouldnt wanna update any drivers had to reinstall the app and fixed the issue. The 4060 is overclockable. Laptop doesnt get super hot for me. R7 hs 4060 cyberpunk on high raytracing medium and dlss on medium solid 60-70fps on 1600p cant complain, wasd will be cool your middle keyboard fghvb will be hot. Keyboard lights up. Like i cant find anything wrong with this purchase or laptop, the other ones i used to own never really gave me the “thats the one” feeling hence why i upgraded 4 times. GET THIS LAPTOP youll be happy with it. Specially if its on sale !

Best Bang for the Buck
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is very solid all around. It looks and feels premium. After much research, i decided the Lenovo Legion was worth the investment over other brands. I ended up with the Slim 5 gen 8 2023. Its well equipped out of the box but I wanted a bit more. I threw in a crucial ran upgrade kit 2x16 DDR5 5600mhz and a 1TB WD SN850X. All plug and play, no issuee at all. I am very happy with the purchase. Runs games very smooth.

Very solid all around with a few flaws.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I like this laptop a lot. I think the screen is great despite only being 350 nits. The battery lasts a good while, the keyboard has a number pad, the RAM and SSD are upgradeable (free SSD slot which is dope). The gaming performance is very solid and the thermals are excellent for a laptop. My only criticisms are the real lack of portability and the plastic bottom part of the chassis. The bottom of the laptop has considerable flex and the feeling of the plastic isn't great. The trackpad is really the worst part for me. It's that plastic trackpad that your finger kind of struggles to glide across. In the smaller legion slim 5 14 the touchpad is a bit better. I think getting this device on sale in the $1200 range is a good deal, but I wish they would've given it a slighlty better trackpad.

Happy With My Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this item as an out of the box in excellent condition. It came in the original casing with the original packaging included so I was really happy with the item. This computer runs amazing and the graphics are really great as well. I wish that the memory would've been better but I believe that you can upgrade the memory but I'm not sure. Otherwise, I would recommend this to anyone. This plays anything I throw at it at high graphics and it never gets too hot. The fans can be a bit loud when under load but nothing really loud. Overall I've been very happy with my purchase.

A powerful Mid-High Ranger
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At the time of writing this, this Laptop does not have a sale. Which is why it is incredibly odd for to see an Open-Box Excellent price for this device to be so low compared to its base price. From $1530 to $891, and at that price (the open-box) price is a steal. The screen is so much better than the Ryzen 5 variant of the device. This is in terms of color and resolution. The combination of a Zen4 Ryzen 7 processor and a RTX 4060 make this perfect to game at native resolution on High to Max settings. 2 sodimm slots and 2 PCIE 4 slots allow good and easy upgrades in the future. While not my favorite, the keyboard is nice and has good actuation point. Battery life gets me 5-7 hours depending on my use (not gaming, just productivity and some YouTube); you do need to tweak the settings to get those times though. Speakers are a weak point for this laptop, they are weak, tinny, and lacks bass. All in all, it is a great machine for the price (if on sale or open-box). I bought it open-box Excellent. The only thing I hate is that Best Buy did not clean this thing. My unit has a lot of pet hair in and around it. I have really bad allergies so I needed to give it a good cleaning before use; but after cleaning it twice, I still can't get rid of all the pet hair and my allergies still flair up. Going to have to clean it a 3rd time, if that doesn't do it, I might have to ask Geek Squad to help out or just return this laptop since I physically can't use it properly without wearing a mask and elbow long gloves. I won't dock points for this, since this issue is on Best Buy, not the laptop or Lenovo.

Great for gaming, kinda eh for work
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for work and some light gaming when I travel and meet family. In the work department this is definitely able to manage all of my statistical programs (SPSS, RStudio, etc) along with wordprocessing, file managment, data management. The realistic battery life when doing standard laptop stuff is around 4 hours (maybe 3.5 if you are really taxing it). The battery will seem like it can last 5 but it hits 20% and dips to 6% immediately. Another issue is the fans will randomly rev up to max despite me setting my options to prevent that. Finally, the laptop screen will sometimes just stop turning on when I open the laptop, forcing me to do a hard shut down with the power button. For gaming this thing is a beast. It can handle high demand games without much sweat or with frame dropping. This is the biggest perk of this laptop in my opinion. In summary, this is not a great daily driver in terms of battery life and having random issues, but it does a great job when gaming. Would I purchase it again? A hard maybe, but that is simply because I now work more than I play games. If it was vise versa I may rethink my rating.

Very well rounded laptop for the budget price
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop Open-Box (Excellent) on top of the discounted price, one of the best purchases I've made. The build quality feels premium. Not as slim as the Slim 7 but still slim and hybrid look of professional and gaming. The display has a good sRGB, and 2560 x 1600 screen resolution. The speakers is good and loud. Battery life is good enough providing 6-7 hours in this price range (with some settings tweaked). The Slim 7 may offer slightly more battery but the value to price is the reason I choose this version. Lastly, it has two RAM slots and two SSD slots that are upgradeable. I have gamed a few on 1080p and this laptop can handle the job.

Nice Portable for Gaming and Productivity.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time picking up a gaming laptop. I wanted to play the new Baldur's Gate 3 title + other Microsoft supported titles. I really do love this portable. It's able to handle BG3 very well, and i appreciate that it has a nice enough resolution, and FPS as the device can offer a steady 165 HZ to carry out a smooth experience. Even though the title says Slim, it's not really. It's a stand size. However, it's definitely not as bulky as other gaming potables I have seen. Good bang for buck.

||Posted . This one gets the job done and of course also runs office apps blazing fast, battery life is poor but I rarely rely on battery power. Screen seems a little dull but I am comparing it to my top of the line desktop. In short I'd highly recommend it as a backup gaming laptop.

Light for a gaming laptop but still very heavy.
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop mainly for the softwares used by mechanical engineering students and some gaming. It is a bit heavy coming from the MacBook air so it is mostly sitting on my desk plugged in but it is one of the lighter gaming laptops. I am very happy with it so far, just the touchpad is a bit to the left so it will take some getting used to. It gets done all the jobs with minimal effort and games are also pretty smooth.

||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop. I bought it as a replacement for a Dell G15. It has been upgraded from the standard 512GB SSD to a 2TB SSD & 1TB SSD, and 32GB RAM. It ran Starfield on Max settings great (as great as you can get Starfield to run, through optimizing the game files through mods). I now use it to run engineering programs required for use at Lamar. I like this laptop.
