Customers are impressed with the Legion Slim 5's performance and graphics capabilities, frequently praising its smooth operation and excellent visuals. Many appreciate the build quality and the option to upgrade RAM, although some find the battery life and weight to be shortcomings. The screen is generally well-received, but the relatively small storage capacity and occasional fan noise are common points of concern.

After using the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16" gaming laptop for several weeks, I can confidently say it’s an impressive piece of hardware that strikes a great balance between performance, design, and portability. Here are my detailed thoughts:
**Design and Build:**
The Legion Slim 5 in Storm Grey looks sleek and modern. Despite being a gaming laptop, it maintains a slim profile and is relatively lightweight, making it easier to carry around compared to other gaming laptops. The build quality is solid with a premium feel.
**Display:**
The 16" WQXGA display is stunning. With a resolution of 2560x1600, the visuals are incredibly sharp and vibrant. The higher refresh rate (typically 165Hz for these models) ensures smooth gameplay, and the color accuracy is excellent for both gaming and content creation. The larger screen size and aspect ratio provide an immersive gaming experience.
**Performance:**
Powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS and equipped with 16GB of memory, this laptop handles gaming and multitasking effortlessly. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 with 8GB of VRAM is a powerhouse, delivering high frame rates and supporting ray tracing for an enhanced gaming experience. I’ve played several AAA titles on high settings without any noticeable lag or performance issues.
**Storage:**
The 512GB SSD provides fast boot times and quick access to games and applications. While 512GB is sufficient for a decent number of games, heavy gamers might consider upgrading or adding external storage for a larger library.
**Thermals and Noise:**
The cooling system is efficient, keeping the laptop cool during intense gaming sessions. The fans can get a bit loud under heavy load, but this is expected and manageable with a good headset.
**Battery Life:**
For a gaming laptop, the battery life is decent, lasting around 5-6 hours with regular use. Gaming sessions will drain the battery faster, so it’s best to keep the charger handy for extended play.
**Keyboard and Trackpad:**
The keyboard is excellent, with good key travel and customizable RGB backlighting. It’s comfortable for both typing and gaming. The trackpad is responsive, though, as with most gaming laptops, an external mouse is recommended for gaming.
**Connectivity:**
There are plenty of ports, including USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and an Ethernet port, providing versatility for various peripherals and external displays. The inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 ensures fast and stable internet connectivity.
**Pros:**
- Sleek and portable design for a gaming laptop
- Stunning 16" WQXGA display with high refresh rate
- Powerful performance with Ryzen 7 and RTX 4060
- Efficient cooling system
- Good keyboard with customizable RGB lighting
**Cons:**
- Fans can get loud under heavy load
- 512GB SSD might be limiting for extensive game libraries
In conclusion, the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 16" is an exceptional gaming laptop that offers top-notch performance and a premium gaming experience in a portable package. It’s perfect for gamers who need a powerful machine that can also be easily transported.

Simply put, i love this thing. It doesnt get uncomfortably hot, doesn’t sound like an airplane taking off under load, and the display is just wonderful to use. Yes there are better and more powerful laptops out there but this one is my “just right” kind of laptop. Doesnt scream “gamer”, and still has solid performance and upgradability.

I love this laptop. Thin, light, bright display with a sturdy aluminum top. The only issue I have is that the updated Nvidia driver disables the brightness controls for the display , which is a bit annoying. The unit is easy to upgrade with more memory or and additional SSD.

Very fast and has everything I need, I got a gaming laptop because they are one of the only laptops that have ethernet which I need for my business and it handles all my programs really well. I upgraded ram, can go wrong doing that.

Nice Display size, performance is also good if using a power adapter, nice upgradability options, however the WiFi is not that good, frequent drops in connection speed specifically when using WiFi 6. Also, the name is slim but the laptop isn't that slim.. Although a good deal for 1250$.

Average user, not an expert. I owned this laptop for about a month before I exchanged it for a different brand.
To start off with some pros, it’s a nice, big laptop compared to the competition, a big screen and enough keyboard space to include a number pad. From my experience, this computer has some really decent specs. What isn’t exactly mentioned in the description is that the screen has a 165Hz refresh rate, which is really nice for gaming. It also comes with some additional features like an ethernet port at the rear, a 1080p camera with an electronic privacy shutter toggle. The fans are also pretty quite when in-use and they would occasionally cycle on and off, depending on the CPU load. This is a very capable computer.
Now for some nitpicky cons, Lenovo definitely made some design compromises to squeeze in all the keys. The number pad is laughably small and the pictures here are really deceiving (they are a lot thinner than they appear). Windows 11 features a pin method to login and when using solely numbers, I found myself hitting adjacent keys I didn’t mean to hit. Moreover, because of this layout, the trackpad is a little off-center to align to the left, leaving very little space to the left of the laptop. I found my left palm frequently contacting the top-left of the trackpad, which is saying something since I have some relatively small hands. I’m also not the type of person who constantly leaves my laptop plugged-in, so I found plugging it in on the back to be a bit inconvenient since I usually found myself shifting the computer over every couple of hours or so when the battery was low. Lastly, the laptop is on the heavier side, apparently weighing in at just over 5 pounds, but it honestly felt much heavier than that.
The deal breakers came down to the modern standby while in sleep mode and an app I downloaded that frequently crashed. The modern standby caused the fans to occasionally operate overnight and since I keep this laptop in my small room, the sound quickly became annoying and made getting to sleep and staying asleep a challenge. Now, some experts out there can possibly modify the BIOS for the fan operation, but I find that way too risky, especially on a new computer I wouldn’t want to mess up. Being a student, I use an app from VitalSource called Bookshelf to read a textbook for class and the program would frequently crash. These two issues led me to return the Lenovo and go with an Asus ROG M16. I got really lucky in that both of these computers were purchased during a time of year where there were a lot of sales going on, so the purchase of the Asus wasn’t a huge jump in price.
In the end, it comes down to what you’re willing to put up with. For me, these minor inconveniences were enough to lead me to exchanging the computer.

Awesome laptop, awesome cooling, great screen. Plays anything you throw at it. I ended up choosing the 14 oled version over this due to weight/mobility. Hard not to consider this laptop when on sale

Excellent gaming laptop, especially for the price. Doesn't run too hot, and Quiet mode allows you to run less demanding games without being annoying to the people around you.
The real weakest part are the speakers, they are just terrible and there in no way to make them any better, really, through any software treatment. Use headphones at all times.
Battery life is reasonable, you get a good few hours in general use. Display quality is pretty good, 165 Hz with VRR is much appreciated, although a tiny bit more brightness would be nice.

I bought this laptop for my son for entry level gaming and for my family as a backup office computer. My best friend is an IT professional so I don't need a geek squad warranty and he recommends Levono. This laptop is easy to setup. I love the build quality, it is solid! The only complaint I have is the sound cannot be controlled from the keyboard, but it looks you can. Overall, it's an awesome laptop!

Hello, JeffR. Thank you for choosing Lenovo! You should be able to adjust the sound using the keys tied to F1, F2, and F3. If not, ensure that FnLock is not enabled. If it is, the Esc key will be illuminated. To deactivate, press the Fn key + Esc simultaneously. If it still does not work, feel free to reach out for Support through the Vantage app on your Legion. Other than that, we are glad to hear that overall your Legion Slim 5 has been awesome, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us.

If you're looking for a gaming laptop you can get for relatively cheap and fully upgrade it's RAM and SSD, look no further. The machine has two non-soldered RAM slots and one non-soldered NVME M.2 so buy yourself 32Gb of Crucial 5600Mhz or Kingston Fury RAM and a 2Tb Crucial P5 Plus and enjoy your monster of a laptop.

Lack of Wifi driver made set up more difficult

I got an open box and it came in good condition. It was a pain to set up because there was no wi-fi driver to allow me to connect to a network and my keyboard was locked. The only option was ethernet due to this.
You will need to bypass the lack of wifi driver by pressing shift + F10. A black window will appear, so type in oobe \bypassnro.cmd
This will cause the laptop to restart and allow you to set up without having internet.
You will need to go to lenovo support on another pc and find the wifi driver for this model. Download it onto a usb then transfer it and open it.
Other than that, the laptop runs well (as of now).

Good laptop but not for the price. Not too heavy and handles games with no stuttering. I have 2 complaints about it though. 1st- not enough ports. I cannot plug in my cooling mat, wireless mouse, and headset because there's only 2 spaces. I have to use a diferent power source for my cooling mat. 2nd- it does get hot even with a cooling mat. I play games like God of War, Hogwarts Legacy, Borderlands, etc. It shouldn't be getting so hot I can't touch it but it does. It even heats up the USB receiver for my mouse to the point I'm worried it'll get damaged. I would not use this for gaming and at this price point, its not worth it.
