The laptop is nice, its fast, nice graphics, etc. but have a couple issues and with the price of this there shouldn’t be any issues. That is how my luck goes, nothing I buy ever completely works like it’s supposed to. 1) it smudges easily with fingerprints outside and inside (see attached photos). Its not like I do a lot of handling or carrying it around it stays on a table and I only use the keyboard. I don’t know what the interior/exterior is made of but it drives me crazy seeing smudges/fingerprints all over it. I like things to look clean. It’s also hard to clean off the smudges, I used special liquid for monitors/tablet and it wouldn’t come off, had to use a disinfecting wipe and rub hard to got most of it but not all.
The battery life is not good – I get about 2 hours out of it before it dies. But its very frustrating when I have to move over and sit by an outlet to charge it. I’m not even using big software, hardware or programs, just shopping online. Im not sure if this is fixable? Guess I’ll need to contact Legion. Although it does charge fast, gets to 100% within 2 hours (and while Im using it) which is nice but having to go sit by an outlet every 2 hours when Im working from home makes it a huge inconvenience.
Third the keyboard is hard to see in the evenings, would be great if it lit up. I thought it had this feature, but Ive looked everywhere and can’t find anything for keyboard light. When I restart it, upon boot up, the whole keyboard lights up bright for a couple seconds so I know it does light up.
All in all I say go for it, get it~ I did a lot of research and this came out on top. The issues I am having is just a fluke Im sure, with my bad luck.

I have only had the Lenovo for a month, but I am very happy so far. I don't use it for gaming. I use it for post production in photography along with Lightroom. I am very happy with the quality of my pictures after Lightroom. The pictures on my computer look great.

This laptop from Lenovo has many problem. I won't recommend any Legion series or Lenovo.
1. The graphic card has compatibility issues with windows updates and the display will start flickering, blacking out and turning off randomly. Many of my engineering software cannot even detect the graphic card. (all drivers are up to date..)
2. The greatest problem however is the charging port!
it will stop working after some times even with subtle and careful use of the laptop. ( I was super careful with this 1200$ investment)
Many many people have the same issue!
Here is a link of the issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Y540-loose-power-socket/m-p/5048588
3. The quality of webcam of this 1000$+ laptop is bizarre! and the placement of it make it even worst. you would have to buy a separate webcam for sure.
4. the removable film plastics won't come off easily at all and over time it gives it a nasty look. (see the pics)
5. The other design defect is that, you would have a hard time finding which port is which at the back since the dark plastic engraves on the back are hard to read. You would have to bend and look exactly what is what.
Do not buy Lenovo or Legion. it has design defects which will not be recalled or fixed or taken care of by Lenovo. Buy anything else.

I absolutely love this gaming laptop y540 legion by Lenovo. Pros : It delivers in all areas. Large screen, feels heavy duty. Vibrant colors. Great speed and performance. I'm not a big gamer, however, I am a simmer and have over 50,000 mods. I did add extra ram which allowed my game to move even better. I am a business owner, and student as well with a hectic work load. This laptop surpassed all my expectations.
Cons: the battery is very large and heavy, and after 4 years of great use. The battery port started having trouble keeping a charge or even charging. I had to pay over $200 to have the mother board replaced in order to fix the charger port because unfortunately it was connected to the mother board and that was the only way of fixing it. Got it fixed because it was worth every penny. Great buy

I bought this to play Sims 4 on, yeah probably a bit overkill, but I wanted something to last. It has been great. I love the support that I get on it from Lenovo. It's not full of bloatware which is cool, unlike a different brand laptop that only lasted me less than a year due to current keyboard issues. Best Buy didn't have any reviews on this, so I had to do extensive research and learned alot. I'm not a technology expert by any means and have nobody to help me on it, so I hope I did good. Anyhow, I'm impressed. I like the sleek design of it and how easy it was for a tech challenged person like me to set it up. I like the speed and the massive space to be able to add more games on it if I want. Also, it's quieter than I expected (again comparing it to a previous laptop mentioned earlier).
The only thing I'm leary about is how hot it gets. If anyone has suggestions on a cooling pad, that would be great. I have a 6 fan on it now, but it doesn't cover the extended back on the laptop.

Dope computer.
Very fast boot up ~15s.
Screen/color is great.
Plays games on ultra/very high without issues.
It does get pretty hot under heavy use so I suggest getting a fan/cooler.
Ssd is pretty fast.
Speakers are good.
Keyboard is decent, numpad placement is a bit different from what I’m used to but manageable. Fingerprint magnet, though.
Trackpad is pretty small, though I personally like the dedicated left/right click buttons.
Camera placement is weird. I wouldn’t use it for work related video calls. Dedicated switch for camera is nice I guess.
Battery life is not the best but if you’re keeping it plugged in it shouldn’t matter.
No regrets.

I'm coming from a 2017 MacBook Pro. I am a college student and some of the software is not compatible with Mac OS and I was looking at good PC options for about $1400. After a lot of research I went with the Lenovo Y540 Legion. The first good thing I noticed about this laptop was the keyboard and the enormous screen real estate! The keyboard experience is phenomenal and it is very noticeable if you're coming from a 2016 or later Macbook Pro. The full-size keyboard is very handy when typing papers and the dreaded Excel sheets. The screen is a joy to your eyes! I play some games like COD MW and Battlefield 5 with medium to high graphics settings and I am getting 70-90 fps on average. The only downside is the fan noise and the battery life. This thing runs a little compared to other devices but you can always under-volt it or simply switch to quiet mode in Lenovo vantage software and this makes the temps go down significantly. There are a lot of ports on this which is a huge plus in my book (thinking of Macs) I get about 4 hours of battery life with running simple tasks in the background like web browsing or some MS Word tabs open. All in all, I would say this is an awesome laptop for the money and I consider myself a convert from the MacBook land! I would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially if you're a college student and need a mid range gaming laptop which is discreet, yet powerful!

If you’re looking for a lightweight 17” laptop with good battery life, this isn’t it. Even the charger is heavy. I needed a powerful machine for trading stocks that is somewhat portable. This laptop has plenty of processing power and storage for most tasks. It’s labeled as a gaming laptop, and I’m sure it can handle that task well, but there machines with faster processors, and better video cards but those will price much higher than this laptop. The battery life is pretty lousy, maybe a few hours in the middle setting, so it is not a good portable for people on the go. For the price you get a very solid laptop that will not be obsolete any time soon.

The quality and build of this Legion Y540 17.3" Gaming Laptop exceeds all of my expectations. I am not a gamer. I wanted a solid, fast, dependable laptop with a beautiful 17-inch screen and this Lenovo Legion certainly delivered. The display is large, bright, clear and has a non-glare finish which I prefer. It is not a touch screen. The colors are accurate and beautiful. The keyboards on Lenovo laptops are legendary and this one is a prime case in point. It is, simply put, the best laptop keyboard I have ever had the pleasure to type on. If you are a touch typist who enjoys typing and expect your keyboard to be responsive with a good amount of travel, you will not be disappointed. It is backlit in white light only (no RGB colors) with two levels of brightness as well as an off setting. This laptop model comes with a full 1 TB solid state drive so it loads everything FAST! The 16 GB of memory is more than sufficient for my needs. I primarily use this as a business/home laptop, doing word processing, spread sheets, Internet access as well as some graphics editing. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics adapter handles all my graphics editing needs beautifully. This laptop performs all tasks flawlessly.
The only criticism I might have are due to Lenovo's choice of keyboard layout. There is a ten-key number keypad on the right, but it does not have its own enter key. Apparently that is something that is supposed to appeal to gamers. That's not a big deal at all since there is an enter key just to the other side. It just takes a bit of getting used to.
All in all, this is a beautifully made and designed laptop and I highly recommend it.

Ok so this has some very decent bells and whistles but I highly recommend removing McAfee unless you like their antivirus software (not the best).
The battery life is a very low point on this unit. It barely lasted three hours if even that and I wasn’t even playing games or using any software. My first use was just installing software; Adobe CC and Steam. I also upgraded Windows and the NVIDIA GTX1660 TI driver. Battery died shortly there after...
I can’t imagine how much juice it will drain just playing a game... I will stress test this and see what happens but if it just drains the battery that quickly then I may consider returning it or reaching out to Lenovo for a solution.
Currently it is set to “Balance”.
Screen size is nice and is of good quality, NIT rated at 300 seems to be correct as I used this outside in daylight and I could see it very well.
Keyboard felt nice with short travel on the keystrokes, track pad is spot on and doesn’t miss a beat.
Speakers are actually not shabby at all and give a decent quality sound when playing music. Obviously it’s best to get a headset when gaming anyway.
It doesn’t seem slow at all, I can’t wait to edit and render video and play a game or two and see how it performs.

Quality screen. Fast hard drive. Decent enough graphics card. You can hear the fans spin up when you game but it’s not too bad.
I like that there is one usb on each side and a third in the back along with the charger and other ports (HDMI, Ethernet, USB C, and Thunderbolt)
Restarts in a few seconds usually.
Download speeds on steam averaged 70-80mb a second download on 600 megabit internet.
Screen is 144hz And looks great.
Battery life is pretty basic around 2-3 hours with intensive tasks but with the power it has in such a slim shell it’s not surprising.
No bloatware other than a antivirus trial you can remove.
Lenovo has a software for customizing performance and noise options as well as driver updates.

This thing has some amazing performance, but you'll need to be near an outlet. I used it to do some work and light gaming on a bus ride, and the battery lasted an hour and a half - and I mean MS Word and Star Wars Empire at War.
Also, the 1660ti is impressive, but more demanding games, like AC Origins will run at 20fps on battery power. Plugging it in, it was able to get to about 70fps with the settings cranked.
It gets hot, but not uncomfortably so.
Excellent sound.
I really liked the feel of the keyboard, too.
I returned it because of the battery life, really. It was amazing at everything else.
Lenovo has really won me over on overall quality. I'm a fan of the Microsoft Surface line, but was looking at Lenovo as a second option, and I have been impressed by their devices.
Ultimately, I exchanged this for a Surface Book 2 15" with the GTX 1060.

After weeks of shopping around and trying to find a good gaming land i finally decided on this. I was told that the Ryzen processor was a better choice for gaming then the Intel but I have loved this laptop so apparently the Intel is great for gaming too. I have had it almost 2 years now and I have never had any problems with gaming performance or any problems period for that matter. And I have played games with great graphics, such as Halo Infinite. The fans can get a little loud when playing games like Halo but it's never bothered me. As far as battery life goes..well you can't play games like Halo very long without it being plugged in so I've never really tried. Lol But just exploring the internet etc, the battery will last longer. But overall I'm really happy with this laptop. Its exactly what I was looking for.

Good for Xbox One Level Gaming and Photo/Video Editing! I purchased the laptop at the store and it came back with a keyboard malfunction, but luckily They resent me another one, and it's been a good experience so far, Battery is short for like 5hrs, but I guess for this laptop when you're video editing/playing video games with a powerful NVIDIA graphics card it will consume battery for sure. It's a big laptop to carry around anywhere, but it delivers what's advertised, speed, storage, and smooth keyboard. Overall it's a good purchase.

I don't use this laptop for gaming, but I wanted a high end laptop that I didn't have to replace every 3 years. This device is fast!!!! It is quality hardware, sturdy and efficient. I work in IT and always bought lower end laptops, but I've been replacing every few years. With constant OS upgrades the lower end machines tend to slow down very quickly. This also did not come with a ton of bloat ware, which is extremely important. All of that just makes the machine slower and slower. The Lenovo migration tool works great for moving your data, photos, music, etc. over. I have 16 gb of ram, 1 tb ssd, and could not be happier. Thank you Lenovo!! This is by far the best laptop I've ever purchased, or used at work.
