Been using this for 18 months now.
In theory - a beast in terms of specifications.
In practice - runs hot, needs a cooling pad under it to operate efficiently.
I've had 2 hardware components fail on me over the 18 month duration - SSD and Graphics Card. SSD had to replace and get reimbursed as I was outside of the country when this happened. Graphics card got shot about 2 months after the warranty ended, was told one needs to replace the motherboard along with the graphics card. I'd rather buy a new one.
All in all - cant use this for demanding games anymore. But still a good workhorse for all-round work and light play situations

Fast, well made, long battery, lots of functionality, speed. i had never ever considered Lenovo. An IT person suggested it and I am totally sold. the Legion I bought was a bit pricier than I had planned, but not outrageous and so well worth the .only. I would buy a lesser priced one in a second. and there are many available options for price and functionality.

Bought this unit on Feb 18 2021, I was exited as my child has been wanting one for a while that can mange gaming I thought I made the right choice. Within 3 days we notice that the battery was draining extremely quickly. I reached out to the Geek squad and was told that they can check it and worst case scenario send it out for repair as they did not have another one in store; they did advised that because it has the standard manufactures warranty they can take care of it much quicker. I contacted Lenovo and was told that I would have to email my receipt as they still did not show the product with warranty, I had to send that first so that they could help, I ended up buying their advantage product in the meantime to run test so that I can at least see if it was just an upgrade needed to a driver or something but no luck.
Days later finally I received a notice saying the unit had warranty, so to assure that we get the best care I upgraded the unit to the Legion Ultimate Option for 3 years. They troubleshooted the unit and online support thought it will be best to replace that battery, so a new one was sent out, for over a week I kept getting email notices saying "your part will arrive tomorrow and repair will be between", however it did not happen till over a week. Battery was replaced only to have the same issue except now there was a grainy pic on some of the portions of video or static graphics!! The tech called in and suggested that the video card should be replaced, a few day later that was done but that did not fixed the issue; that was 3/12/21 the online rep at Lenovo Legion Ultimate said they would have to escalate to corporate to have the unit replaced. So it is now 3/22/21 and have not heard back from anyone, because my child is a special needs kid I had to buy another one as autistic kids tend to be set on certain things. I now have one Y540 that is working flawless and the other is just paper weight, not to mention I have also added the Ultimate Care as well on the 2nd unit... I will caution you, the so call "Gaming Engineers" are not, I picture a full blown geek knowing everything gaming and that is not the case, is just like calling your local IT, I started asking question since I was to drop over another 1K on another 17.3 Lenovo Legion and the tech just told me it was best to talk to sales to see what they recommended.

This laptop is extremely quick and very worth the price. Bootup occurs in less than 10 seconds and everything runs at a lightning speed. Great layout for working on a laptop with a light weight design. Display is much better than other laptops.

This laptop runs really well! It's definitely the best laptop I've ever had. I really like that there is a conservation mode where you can have the laptop only charge to 55-60% which keeps the battery lifespan lasting longer. I'd totally recommend this laptop to anyone who asks. Lenovo Vantage (comes installed) is a great way to maximize the performance.

I bought this for my sister when her previous one was on its last legs. It's nice and sturdy, the screen is big and displays well. Specs are good enough for the games that my sister plays. I also trust Lenovo to be a decent and reliable brand as most of the ones I own have been Lenovos that lasted a good long while, and some still are operating (albeit slow like any older computer that wears with age).
I do miss the CD/DVD drives that older laptops used to have so software installation can be easier, but these days they've become rare.
The only thing that bothered me wasn't so much the product itself, but the shipping was weird. I think because of the coronavirus, the delivery folks were too nervous to just knock on my door. Instead, they just slipped a note and made me go to a third-party location to pick up the package the day after the expected shipping date.

Got this at a significant discount on Black Friday 2019. Even though I'm used to much higher resolutions on my home PC, this machine makes 1080p games look great in 17in. Ultra everything and 144hz is certainly an interesting way at consuming content but certainly not mandatory. It's a welcome addition to a strong mobile device. Battery life is bad, though some might argue 3 hours is expected with the specs. I did my homework before buying and was ready for the poor battery life. This is great for someone who moves around during the day but lives life near outlets.

The Lenovo Legion Y540-17 Gaming Laptop ships with a 3CELL_57WH_INTERNAL, Lithium Polymer Battery, with a battery life of up to 5 hours, depending on the work the device is performing. To maximize battery life, first adjust your battery saver settings. Here is a link to instruction for doing this in Windows 10: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-use-configure-battery-saver-windows-10. Next, to maximize battery life, be sure there are no unwanted programs running in the background, draining the battery. Here is a link to some tips for finding out what is draining your battery: https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/battery-saver-windows-10. Also, to maximize battery life, try changing your power management setting to a more conservative one. You can do this in the control panel, in the power management category on your system. Select a more conservative power management setting to extend battery life. Finally, if the battery life does not improve, a battery reset may help. Here is a link to instructions for reconditioning a non-removable battery, using the Battery Management Software installed on the computer. If you need further assistance, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Here is the link: https://windowsreport.com/laptop-battery-not-charging-windows-10/

As far as I can see it is really good. The price was good and the screen is really a joy. Very responsive for the games that I play World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14. Would recommend for these purposes. Don't know how it would do with shooters or that For me though it works very well.

We love the solid state hard drive in this laptop--it's fast, stays cool and is just a really nice laptop for the price. It has a good processor, lots of memory and a huge hard drive that will probably never be used completely. I would buy again if I needed one.

Amazing computer for work.
It is faster than any lap tops I ever used. I can have too many windows open as well as different programs. My only issue is the camera position and the material of the keyboard that is hard to clean.
