Worked really well for the first few months, but it just completely broke recently. It won't even turn on. It just beeps at me, and I don't know what's wrong with it. I don't think there's anything wrong with this model, but something must have been wrong in shipping or whatever.

The LOQ Tower 17IRR9 is the new styled mid-range gaming desktop from Lenovo. I have a 2 year old Lenovo LOQ tower that has 1/3 of the front face covered with grating and had a blue LED that ran from the top to the bottom. The new LOQ tower has shrunk the grating significantly, and replaced the blue LED with a white one. The specs for this new Lenovo LOQ tower now boast a 14th Gen, i5-14400F with 6 performance cores and 4 efficient cores giving you a total of 16 threads. This i5-14400F is about on par with an equivalent i7 processor from 2 years ago. It comes with 16 GB of 4800mhz DDR5 memory with another slot to add more RAM. It comes with a 512 GB Western Digital NVMe for storage. But disappointingly, it does not have an additional M.2 slot for expandability. It does, however, contain a 3.5 drive caddy at the bottom that is pre-wired with a SATA data and power cord and one more SATA data port on the motherboard. The next disappointment I noticed is that it does not have any additional PCI-express slots available. The discrete GPU included is a shortened Nvidia RTX 3050. It's not winning any speed contests in today's market, but it's still a respectable card that yielded an average of 75 frames per second. What surprised me is that after 30 minutes of gameplay it's still very cool and I wasn't immediately distracted by a high power fan trying to dissipate heat. The case seems to have enough circulation for this card and that impressed me. I would still place this over any ARC card I've seen to date. I run programming and cybersecurity teams from my home. I have 5 desktops and I've staggered the purchases through the years so that I'm not breaking the bank every few years. So I find myself looking for something that gives me a current i5 (or better) processor with at least 16 gigs of RAM for a reasonable price. With the LOQ Tower's inclusion of the Nvidia RTX 3050, I can expand to include Machine Learning model training. When it's not in use for the programming or cybersecurity teams, flipping over to a game is very easy. While this LOQ tower is only a mid-range gaming desktop, it can still yield 75 frames per second on high settings. This makes this gaming desktop a fantastic contender to run most of the games that I play at a very comfortable price.

Lenovo has a broad portfolio of PCs - and of all their desktop configurations, this LOQ Tower 17IRR9 occupies something of a sweet spot in the middle. While it's not the "best" or "most" of anything, it's solid and good at just about everything. But is it right for you? Read on to find out! The core platform here is built around a 14th generation Core i5 14400F processor which has 10 cores - 6 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores - for a total of 16 threads boosting up to 4.7Ghz. That's plenty of power to not just get through your normal day to day work but most processing tasks you might reasonably want while still not using a crazy amount of power or generating tons of heat. Paired with 16GB of fast DDR5 RAM (albeit in single channel format) and a 512GB NVMe SSD, the computer is snappy in starting up and running day to day applications - web browsing, email, office tasks and streaming video is perfect. There's enough power for photo or video editing as well and you get good though not great connectivity with plenty of USB 2.0 ports and some faster USB 3.0 ports (including a type-C port) as well. The addition of the Nvidia RTX 3050 6GB graphics card (GPU) turns this powerful productivity machine into a capable entry-level gaming machine as well. While that's not a top tier gaming GPU, it's enough to power casual gaming and even play some AAA titles on lower settings (as a point of comparison, this PC performs about 30% or thereabouts better than something like the ROG Ally on benchmarks). Perhaps one of the best things about this PC though is that it can be (to some degree) expanded / upgraded. You can upgrade the RAM adding another stick and/or replacing the existing - I did try that, replacing the single 16GB stick with 2x 16GB sticks of DDR5 for more capacity and performance and it worked great. You can also add a SATA storage drive in the form of either a 3.5" HDD or (with an adapter, not included) 2.5" SSD or HDD - and to really max it out, you could replace the existing 512GB NVMe drive with a larger one as well. You might be able to upgrade the GPU though given that the power supply is somewhat limited, you'd have to look for a lower power GPU which is quite doable. So you get all that power and capability - and room for expansion - in a compact lightweight chassis (with stylish LED lighting...that can also be turned off if you want) for a solid price. So if you could use a PC that's a jack of all trades (it CAN do everything, though it might be the master of none) for a good price, give this LOQ tower a try today!
