An Excellent Laptop for My Needs

I bought this Yoga 6 13” laptop to replace my old Yoga 2 (2014) that was slow and the battery would last only an hour or two. So far, I have been more than satisfied with this laptop. The processor is obviously much faster, matching my new HP desktop PC in speed. For me and what I do, boot up speed is the primary need. Second is program loading. Data transfer and streaming are also important. I discovered that even if the laptop had been shut down, when I raised the lid, the laptop booted up and was ready for login in about 10 seconds. Programs start up almost immediately. Clearly, the SSD drive is a big improvement over the old hard drive in my old laptop. The screen size and resolution are actually the same as the old laptop – 13.3” diagonal, 1920x1080. However, the width and length of the case are a little less, and the new laptop is more than a half-pound lighter. And the battery lasts MUCH longer. If I shut it down over night, almost no power is used. (It looks like if I leave the USB-C hub plugged in, more power is drained. I need to test that.) The new Yoga 6 does not have an SD card reader slot or an HDMI port like those in the old Yoga 2. I had to buy a USB-C hub with those, and other, ports. Because this laptop has two USB-C ports, I can have the charger plugged into the charging port, and the hub plugged into the other port. I can plug the adapter for a wireless mouse into either the hub USB-A port or into one of the two USB-A ports on the laptop. The mousepad works fine, but I like the feel of a real mouse. The only issue I have had so far, was getting music to play through the headphone jack. I worked with the settings for a long time before I finally was able to get music to play through my earbuds. I’m not sure that I actually figured what to do. I suspect I just stumbled onto something that worked. I guess if I looked at the settings now, I could see how it works. I’m not an audiophile, so I can’t speak to sound quality of the speakers. They sound fine to me although they are not quite as “good” as the speakers I have attached to my desktop PC. Sound through my earbuds is probably a little better. The volume is more than enough for me. Unlike my old Yoga, this new one does not have dedicated Home/End/Page-Up/Page-Down keys. They are merged with the arrow keys, and I have to press the function key to use them. I thought this might be a problem, but I adjusted to using the function key. I am typing this review on the new laptop, and any issues I have with the keys are my typing, not the keyboard. The key response is fine for me. I have seen comments about the bottom of the laptop getting very hot. I streamed a 2.5-hour movie over WiFi through the HDMI port on the attached hub to my large TV. Using a meat thermometer placed in direct contact with the bottom the entire time, the highest temperature I measured was 95 degrees F. Still a little warm. If the laptop had been on my legs the entire time, it might have been a little uncomfortable. But I doubt I will be using it that way much. Right now, typing this review, the bottom is barely warmer than room temperature. The touch screen works well. I often use the touch screen to activate or select things rather than using the mouse pad or the wireless mouse. My laptop apparently came with Windows 10 installed. But the initial setup process automatically installed Windows 11 as part of the setup. It also identified that a lot of drivers needed updating and ran those. So, the setup process took a while. In my case, longer because of the sound output issue described above. There are no printed instructions included other than a diagram showing to plug the charger into a wall socket and into the laptop and to press the start button. Speaking of the charger, I wish it was smaller for traveling. I have a smaller one for my old laptop, but it will not work with the new laptop because of the change in charging ports. I like the cloth top. It is different. There are care instructions in the box for the cloth top. Overall, I think this Yoga 6 laptop will be just what I need. I won’t have to go to my office just to check something on the PC. I can keep this laptop in the kitchen or den. And it is a good weight and size for travel.

I'm a computer scientist and need a powerful laptop for most of my tasks. This computer fits that bill with enough CPU power to run demanding tasks and enough RAM to have a few VMs running in the background. I picked up this laptop on sale for $750 which is a bargain for what it offers! The battery life is excellent and lasts about 14 hours for light use like typing documents or answering emails, and about 8 hours for heavier workloads. I use a desktop for gaming, but I did try playing Fallout 4 while traveling which ran fine at low to medium settings at 1080p. Battery life will take a hit when gaming though so make sure to use a charger. Pros: * Very powerful for the price with enough RAM for most tasks. * Long battery life * Uses USB-C charging so you can pickup any 65W charger and it will work with it. * Speakers are surprisingly good, sounding almost as good as a Macbook Pro. * Touchpad is smooth and responsive * Screen works very well with a digital stylus. Tried a Pixelbook pen with it and it worked flawlessly with no latency. * Fabric cover doesn't pickup fingerprints and is easier to grip. * Starts up incredibly quickly (about 8 secs). Quicker than the Dell XPS I was using before this which also had an NVMe drive. Cons: * Keyboard is a tad mushy but it's not bad (I'm used to using a mechanical keyboard) * Screen brightness is on the lower side so bright sunlight will be a problem. * Charging is only supported on the left USB-C port. * Can get hot so using it in your lap can get uncomfortable. Ryzen CPUs are designed for this so it won't damage the computer. * Comes with bloatware apps installed and McAfee security (which is trash btw) which need to be removed on first startup. An in-flight experience: I was on a 4 hour flight at one point on a budget airline with no power outlets. I'd downloaded a bunch of episodes on Netflix to watch on the flight. With the laptop on full charge, and after watching about 4 hours of episodes (flight was delayed by half an hour) with bluetooth headphones connected, it had dropped to 82% charge. This was with WiFi off and about 70% brightness. This kind of battery life is phenomenal for a Ryzen 7 laptop considering it's more powerful than 11th gen Core i7 based laptops.

Processor and memory specs are good for a budget laptop. One thing about this particular Ryzen 7 processor: The strength of some processors is in single-core performance, and others are better in multi-core performance. This processor is stronger in multi-core than single-core. That's something to keep that in mind when deciding whether to go for a laptop with this Ryzen 7, a different Ryzen 5 or 7, or an Intel processor. Which is better depends on workload. Screen is decent for this price point. You might have to crank up the brightness nearly all the way, but it is bright enough for indoor use. It would probably struggle outdoors. Having 1920x1080 resolution, the aspect ratio is 16:9, which is common in many laptops, although many are moving towards screens with more vertical space such as 16:10, 3:2, or 4:3. Generally, 16:9 is good for video, while more vertical aspect ratios are good for things such as word processing or spreadsheets. I commend Lenovo for doing something different by having a cloth cover. It looks and feels cool. While not that important for me, I can see this being a selling point for someone who wants something a little different. The keyboard deck is a little plasticky and not very rigid. Unusually, the screen section actually seems more rigid than the keyboard section. The keyboard deck also had a very subtle rubberized feel, which I personally wasn't very fond of. Lenovo does hinges well, so I would expect it to last. I love the small form factor. Despite being thin and light, battery life seems very good. Keyboard feel is a matter of taste. Some like it more springy, and some like it more clicky. The keyboard on this was more springy than I like. Despite trying, I just couldn't get used to it, which is ultimately why I decided to return it. I would suggest trying it out in the store before buying it to see if you like it. While it wasn't for me because of my keyboard preferences, this is a solid machine that many people would be happy with.

I'm in my 30s, out of school, and have a family so I no longer qualify for the "power user" badge I wore for many years. Having purchase several Windows and Mac flagship products over the years - I knew I was not going to need "top of the line" for what is basically researching my next domestic purchase (tires, kitchen appliances, grill, etc), doing some continuing education, writing longer emails and occasionally watching YouTube or doing some work from home. I did want something that was going to be a bit more future proof than the "absolutely cheapest you can get" laptop that grandpa gave me (32 GB eMMC storage, 4 gb ram, Celeron processor, wireless card too old/dated to use 5 ghz band). But I also wasn't gonna spend $2000 or even $1000 on a laptop I might take out once per week or sometimes go months without looking at. (I should also mention I waited until an excellent sale price came up on this model). Enter the Yoga 6. I'll be the first to admit I was skeptical of this brand. Older reviews of Lenovo as a whole seem somewhat spotty, particularly regarding hinges and crashing. But YouTube reviews on the whole regards this laptop (particularly with the excellent specs on this model) as one of the best bangs for your buck. For my purposes - worth the gamble. I have to say - after a few weeks - I love everything about this laptop. The thin form factor, the light weight, the fabric cover. Everything is just unique enough, but not over the top ridiculous to hurt usability or to age terribly. The keyboard feels natural and has great spacing and tactile feel. Startup is quick - within seconds, and the fingerprint scanner works great. Would've loved facial recognition/IR camera for Windows Hello but not a huge deal at this price point. 512 gb is moderate in this day, but easy to add an external SSD for large media file storage or I believe the drive is upgradable if desires. 16 gb DDR4 ram is rare for this price point and absolutely makes a difference even in typical usage. Ryzen 5700u works great. My first Ryzen product after a lifetime of Intel and have been very impressed with the balance of speed and great battery life on this particular setup. Wifi 6 is an excellent touch (even if maybe it takes a few seconds to get going). Charging is fast and with the screen brightness set to medium and moderate cpu usage - I could easily see this laptop lasting all day. Haven't tested the graphics as I'm not a gamer anymore. Would probably want something different than a 13 inch ultrabook for that. Dolby Atmos sound is very nice and gets satisfyingly loud and while the screen isn't super vivid or crazy bright (bad for battery life!) It can keep up perfectly fine even in a moderately sunny backyard (though mind the reflections on the glossy touch screen - which works very well too). Perhaps not flagship Apple or Samsung phone levels of touch responsiveness, but more than acceptable for casual use. If I had bought this for full price - I would be hesitant to say this is a clear winner as there is some stiff competition at about that price point. But if you catch a sale (some of the competition barely have any sales and not for much off) - I don't think I could beat this for my intended use.

I have always appreciated slim/thin and light laptops. I think this laptop will qualify. I went from a thin and light Lenovo that I purchased over 3 years ago. It treated me very well though with all the Windows 10 updates and the prospect of Windows 11 it was showing some age. Battery life was starting to degrade. Not unexpected. I usually reserve my laptop for travel and travelling. Battery life and portability are very important for me. If you combine battery life along with the power of this laptop, this laptop covers it for me. Right away this Lenovo offered an upgrade to Windows 11 which I excepted. I figured I might as well start fresh with a new device rather than get accustomed only to upgrade at some future date. The upgrade process was smooth and easy. No issues there. I did not observe any problems with the AMD processor issue noted elsewhere on the internet. Learning the new operating system has been equally easy though not without issues. Every ones milage will vary. Overall this laptop has been an overall positive experience. I have paired it with a bluetooth mouse, Bluetooth headphones, a Lenovo pen, and external monitor (with a dongle) various wifi connections all without issue. One negative is the speakers are just passable, not great. I am happy and satisfied with my purchase. Good luck to all.

This little laptop packs a punch and can get a lot done for it's smaller size. I was a little hesitant flipping the switch to go to AMD as a processor but honestly I don't know if I can go back. The value and work they put in makes it worth it. I'm not really gaming on here, more programming/data work. The battery is very solid and surprised me when I would put it in my bag and because of my schedule not need it for maybe a day or too and pull it up and it's ready to go. Some of that has to do with the settings I gave to it, hibernating when closed or being conscience to turn it off when I wouldn't need it for a while. As a school and personal computer this is a great option. The upgrade to Windows 11 was seamless - I'm not at the point to say it's the staple of OSs but so far I haven't noticed anything too pressing. If you need a personal machine and don't have the budget to go for an intel run one, this build is fantastic and will handle all of your production needs. The Ryzen 7 plus 16gb of ram make things flow seamlessly. 512gb is enough for the average person - but I do plan on upgrading it soon to 1tb. I only say this as the datasheet for this machine shows hard drive access to be relatively simple compared to some other laptop builds. I've also had this experience with other levono's and other yoga's in particular. I was a little weary about the fabric cover - but honestly It gives it some great character. I don't need things to be flashy or different than everyone else, but a little character added here or there is cool with me and this computer fits well in class, at a coffee shop, home, wherever. I don't use the yoga bend back feature all too often, but it is convenient to have it flat or bent maybe 360 degrees when using an external monitor to help work flow. I rarely use the touchscreen but it's nice to have. If you plan on using it more it is pretty slick on this machine. The screen and colors are great - at this point for this price point FHD should be standard. 4k would be nice but you're not getting it here - plus 4k with a touchscreen might have it's own issues. I'd recommend this comp to someone in a similar situation to me - school, personal, media, productive, etc. I can't speak much to gaming but those interested in it know you're not getting the results of a desktop build in a laptop - however I could imagine this laptop could hold it's own compared to non specifically built for gaming laptops. There's no dedicated graphics card but integrated AMD Radeon graphics, and I've had great experience with movies and such. The 16gb ram helps with streaming.

This is my first Lenovo computer and only my second AMD processor computer. For what my use is the Ryzen 7 has been working very well. With the help of a USB dongle there is little that cannot be done with this laptop. It is compact (13.3" HD screen) and light weight. The battery life is a bit less than what the specs say but is still very long life considering the power built in. I haven't done anything with it to tax the video power of the AMD RADEON built in but I suspect it will continue to meet all of my expectations.

This is a good laptop for Ubuntu 20.04 + Windows 10 Dual boot! So, this has out of the box support in Windows 10, and is so solid it has support for Windows 11. But wait, there's more... The suspend mechanic (S3) and how long it takes being my only gripe as it works in Linux which is a real problem sometimes, this supports up to two external displays with a supported USB-C dock. It does not have the problem that _65W_ USB-C PD chargers have on the Ideapad Flex 5 15ALC05 in Linux, which is the laptop does not fast charge, but slow charges and so will drain faster than it charges while plugged in: it looks like Lenovo took take of with a driver in Windows 10 on that laptop (I don't expect them to fix any of these Linux problems, just to not make there a barrier to using Linux (Secure Boot can be disabled on this laptop; no problems here)) , and so this Yoga 6 13ALC6 checks every box I have! Meaning that the USB-C 13ALC6 actually charges at 65W instead of whatever it was charging at on the 15ALC05, which forced me to buy a 65W barrel charger to use it. It (both laptops do actually) also works out of the box with the Lenovo GX80U45010 Digital Pen. Please see the rtw89 github of lwfinger for compiling the driver for the Realtek 8852 in this laptop for Linux; if you don't care about Linux then let me stop you right there, don't remember any of this Linux mumbo jumbo, and you march in the other direction with a wondrous Windows 10/11 laptop! It's really fast, with 8 cores! It has 16 GB of the fastest memory that CPU can support! SSD! If you need Ethernet use a dock, the one I bought went up to 827Mbps of the 1GBps from our ISP, it's fast 10GPBs USB-C For a benchmark I used Passmark. Be aware of differences in TDP between the same processor, as these are laptops, and all laptops, as well as gaming phones, are limited by how hot the inside of the laptop gets, if it gets too hot your battery will get damaged and eventually explode. 14,851 is the score for the 15ALC05, 12217 is the score for the 13ALC6, because of the difference of the cooling solution and other differences between the two. But the almost sRGB color accuracy of the screen of the 13ALC6, along with the above, made me buy another! Lenovo did it again!

I got a good price on this when I bought it. Plenty durable, great battery life, okay speakers. I don't use it in tablet mode very much but it works well with touch and pen input. I like the fabric cover, but it's been treated gently so it still looks almost new. CPU is excellent, same model is used again in the newer version of this 2-in-1. Graphics are enough for light games and indie games, not really for high end modern titles. The picture quality and brightness of the screen is not great, but at the price I paid it was acceptable. Especially with touch and pen support for taking notes. Newer model seems to have an upgraded display. It's got two USB-C and two USB-A, supports connecting external display over USB-C, and has a backlit keyboard. It's a small workhorse than can easily be docked for a complete office experience, seems sturdy enough, quite good value in its category.

We bought this for our daughter for her freshman year of college. She's very happy woth it. It meets or exceeds all her expectations. It's small and portable. It's fast and responsive. Quite user friendly with more bells and whistles compared to the Chromebooks of her high school past. The screen is the perfect size and the resolution is amazingly crisp. She prefers to use it primarily as a laptop because she dislikes "smudging" her screen, but is reassured by the fact that it's an option later. As the one who paid for it, we are convinced that it is a more than decent laptop for a college student for the price paid for it.

This laptop is a mixed bag. The internals are great - the Ryzen 7 5700u is a VERY impressive processor and the 16GB or RAM and 512GB (really ~490GB or so formatted) SSD combine to However, there is one major, and I do mean MAJOR drawback to this machine: it is cheaply made. The plastic chassis bends easily and there is significant flex when you press down on the keyboard and palm rest area. I worry about it breaking in half when I hold it in one hand. The maximum screen brightness could be bumped up a bit and is the very definition of "good enough." OH, and the webcam is the worst I've ever seen on a laptop of this price, but at least it has a physical cover. For all my complaints, in this market, for the price, I'm going to keep it, but you can bet I'll treat it with significant care.

The Lenovo Yoga 6 13 model number 82ND0002US, ships with case material of: Fabric (Top), PC + ABS Plastic (Bottom). This model ships with a 720p (HD) webcam with Privacy Shutter, with Dual Array Microphones onboard. If you are getting less than expected broadcast video quality, check to be sure that the protective shipping film/tape has been removed from the webcam lens. If this film/tape has been removed and the webcam broadcast video is still less than expected, now check to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10 on the computer. Then update all BIOS files and drivers up to that latest version of Windows 10. You can easily accomplish this by scanning the computer with the Lenovo Utility software available on this computer. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. If the issue still continues after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help. Lenovo

Bought this for my wife about a year ago on sale and she loves it, especially the touch screen. Performance is pretty good, though I think it would be better if the laptop was running Windows 10 instead of 11.

I got this on sale. Had this been full price, I might have only given this 4 stars. That being said, this is a pretty high quality laptop. The Ryzen 7 chip is good enough for most people, and if you really need high performance, you are probably getting something with more than 16 GB of RAM. The touch screen works really well, and it's light and easy to transport. I did buy a mini-hub to get more ports, and now I use a monitor and keyboard with the laptop. I would have preferred this had more ports, but I think that would have added size and bulk. I do get occasional crashes, and certainly this is a notch below the Microsoft Surface, but it was substantially cheaper and does about 95% as well.

I went in with an open mind as to brand and physical size. I was more concerned about price and meeting my spec requirements. I wanted Windows, touchscreen, 16 GB RAM, around 500 GB SSD, and ideally an Intel Core i7 processor. A Blue Shirt steered me to this Lenovo Yoga 6. He assured me that the AMD Ryzen 7 was on par with the Core i7. I took his word for it and later read some professional geek reviews that were reassuring. I love this thing. It's super responsive. The hinges allow any position. It knows how it's oriented and it adjusts the screen orientation and turns the key lights on or off to match. I find the size to be perfect for playing touchscreen games and good enough for more serious tasks. The body is plastic with a nice feeling blue color finish. The cloth cover makes it not look like a Mac Book wannabe. It unlocks with a fingerprint reader. There is a physical shutter to block the camera. I don't play music on it, but general sounds are quite clear even with the keyboard folded under and resting on my lap. I have no negative comments. Well done, Lenovo and Best Buy!

Great laptop, I'm glad you can finally get some premium AMD laptops. It would be nice if the fingerprint reader cast your fingerprint on boot up until the lock screen comes up like some brands can do, but it's fast enough both booting and reading your fingerprint it's not that big of a deal. Because of the style it is definitely not worth it at full price for the performance that it has, but I got it on clearance for like 40% off so nothing else came close. The multitouch screen is also very responsive and I don't have any issues using it even an applications that aren't touchscreen optimized.

It runs a bit hot and the screen can be somewhat dark in a super brightly lit environment (it's manageable in a classroom with no direct sunlight shining on the screen). Other than that, it's pretty fast and the battery lasts for MOST of the school day depending on what I'm using it for. I think the build isn't aluminum but that's not a big deal. Build is maybe more of a $700-$800 than a $900+ laptop... ram and processor are good tho.

Yoga is the only laptop I get. Love the fold over and touch screen. It's a workhorse for such a small light unit.
