All high performance laptops, like this one, have fans to keep them operating at normal temperatures. The normal operating temperature for this device is 150-degrees Fahrenheit. The device will generate heat any time it is turned on, whether doing heavy work or just at idle. Both the processor and the discrete GPU generate heat. The fan is there is maintain optimum operating temperatures. lenovo

Regarding the horizontal line on the screen, this sounds like a driver update issue. Here is a link to a Windows 10 article about this issue and the possible fixes, please note that the Yoga 720-15 is not user upgradable, so if the driver update does not fix the issue, we recommend you contact the Geek Squad about looking in to the mechanical fixes for this issue. Thank you for choosing the Lenovo Yoga 720. With regard to the fan coming on, this is a high performance system, the fan is necessary to maintain the normal operating temperature of the device when it is turned on, of approximately 150-degress Fahrenheit.
