The fan .... Oh the fan ....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The machine looks great; easy to hold; keyboard is good; screen is a joy to see & work with, etc. No issues. But a simple visit to Youtube, or CNN or open an Ms_office app, etc will get the fan going. And its distracting ... Now, I have been using the ASUS (Q325UA-BI7T18SKU: 5768302) for the past week.It has its limitations; but @ no time does the fan kick in like this. For that machine, it was a visit to Youtube or video heavy sites. For this guy, any app you open, kicks the fan on. I have this connected to the same 3100 dell port replicator & am able to use 3 monitors. I paid a premium. And was really hoping to get a silent powerfull machine. Compared to the $900/- I spent on the ASUS (13.3" & i7 7th Gen), now I'm unsure what to keep.

It will generate heat whenever it is turned on, even at idle, this is normal. The onboard fan will maintain the proper operating temperature for the device. Great lap top, better than MacBook Pro!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, i went through 3 MacBook Pro's due to battery issues. It's a 3 hour battery computer. I am a 20 year Mac person. I switched for the battery issue. This PC has a great battery. I don't care for Windows.. But this 920 is awesome. In every way the Mac is and more. I recommend this model to everyone. Great keyboard, battery, screen, speed, processor, weight, feel, touch screen and more. 4K, are you kidding me?? Can't go wrong. If you need HDMI, you need an adapter that is USB 3.1 compliant. Merry Christmas...

Went through 2 laptops - none worked perfectly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A nice 2-in-1 but I had mixed success when I went through 2 Yoga 920, one Yoga 920 Star Wars edition and also one Yoga 720 I ordered straight from Lenovo. I am particular about laptops for home and travel use which my wife also uses; and I use Macbook Pro for work so I have high standards. None of the fist two 920s worked perfectly. They had sporadic WiFi connectivity issues, which none of my other devices, including one Yoga 920 and one 720 exhibited. The Star Wars edition was OK but my wife voted it down from the looks POV unfortunately. Other aspects were OK or bearable. Display: 4K panel on 920 is pretty good. Good black levels. Adequate brightness (but not more than that). Colors are vibrant. Color accuracy is pretty poor; it can be corrected some but it takes time and efforts. Colors were all different on all 3 panels I tried. Why not ship 4K panels calibrated? Display orientation change is annoyingly slow but that might be a Windows thing. Note that on Yoga 720 4K panel is different, colors duller and it is definitely insufficiently bright. Initial install: OK but note that you need to manually reboot when upgrade gets stuck. That happened on 2 Yoga 920. Build quality feels decent for the price. There's definitely some engineering thought that went into the design. Appearance is good. Sleek. Kudos! Keyboard and trackpad work OK. This is a big deal. Front camera: worked great in difficult lighting. Somehow noticeably better than Yoga 720's which was less sharp with worse focus. Getting warm and nosy with some load (moderate) which other reviews also mentioned. It is a bit annoying given that Yoga 720 equipped exactly the same in terms of CPU/memory/SSD was quiet while performing exactly same operations. However, I don't see it is being a problem in normal operations given that one can switch the laptop to quiet mode by pressing Windows+Q. Still, after going through that many laptops I wonder if Lenovo's QC is different for Best Buy's stock.

Fantastic Performance with some caveats
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research and read most reviews posted here before making this purchase. I replaced a five year old lenovo with similar specs except for the ssd. Performance on this is great. Starts up in about 6 seconds, apps load almost immediately and can handle mid level gaming if necessary. Similar to other reviews, the advertised battery life isn't accurate. From a full charge ive gotten 4 to 5 hours of use with web browsing and Excel. This plummets if watching a movie or playing a game. Also, the laptop runs hot once the processor is being taxed. This is to the point where I use a tray rather than directly on my lap. As a result, the fan noise is very audible. Overall it's a gorgeous design. I love the hinge and no issues to report there after a few weeks of daily usage. However, if the heat, fan noise and 5 hour battery life (vs 14 as advertised) are deterrents, then you should look elsewhere. For me, these con's outweighed the performance and design pros.

Known Sound Issue on This Model
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the limited edition Star Wars version of this 2in1 and I was thrilled when I first received it. Design is sleek, the computer is fast, really a beautiful machine. I did notice that the engine ran a bit loud even when I was just browsing the web, but I totally understand that with such a high spec machine, this is not uncommon. The real issue is the sound. It looks like around 10-15% of customers who but the 4k version have an issue where their sound just completely dies. Some people experience it when they insert and remove a headphone jack, and I had thought it was exclusive to this action (this is how the issue occurred for me) but it actually looks like it gets triggered in a variety of ways. One thing is consistent though: Lenovo will go through a lengthy process where they'll talk you through reinstalling your drivers, downloading windows updates, then requesting you to ship your laptop back to them with an incredibly large window of when they'll fix and ship back (based on availability of parts). And even when they fix it and ship back (usually they'll replace the motherboard with the same model motherboard) the sound fries again. This lenovo forum shows how prevalent this issue is in their machines and their lack of action around it: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-Yoga-920-No-sound/td-p/4003227 I'm scared to send my laptop to lenovo because of all the terrible experiences users are reporting here. I think I'll ultimately have to live without sound, which is ridiculous, but one thing is for certain. I will never purchase from lenovo again. Do NOT take the gamble and purchase this laptop. You'll likely see a civil suit come out of this product soon.

Not Perfect but Best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lenovo Yoga 920 is the 12th laptop I've owned and 3rd Lenovo product. I purchased the 920 specifically for my part-time work in web-design and use of Windows Ink and other drawing s/w pgms. It's now become my everything machine (with note that I'm not a gamer). Hands down it's the best laptop I've ever owned, though not perfect. Perfect would be retractable keys in tablet mode, an hdmi and an ethernet port. Although there's no solution for the keyboard, the lack of hdmi and ethernet is solved with thunderbolt adapter cables. Lastly, the negative reviews sighting the heat and fan noise... remember, this is a half-inch laptop running a gen8 i7 with DDR4, so that's the trade-off... otherwise, you'll have to buy a thicker, heavier laptop and 'possibly' get a reduction in heat/noise.

Better than Spectre 360
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in the market for a new laptop as I found my SP4 too small to get any work done while undocked. I was looking for something in the 13-15 inch range and wanted a laptop that was very light. After reviewing the options, I was deciding between the Spectre and the 920 with 4k 16gb and 512. Both of these laptops have the same internal specs including the CPU, GPU, RAM and windows ink abilities. I ultimately purchased the Yoga as the screen size was larger and it was the same price as the Spectre on sale and the weight difference was very small. This thing is beautiful and fast but I still had my doubts as the Spectre was a sleek machine as well, due to the buyers remorse syndrome, I returned to BB to purchase the Spectre to put them head to head. As soon as I opened the Spectre and compared the size and weight to the Yoga, the Yoga started to pull ahead as the screen size is a real plus. In addition, my major concern with the HP is the quality control, the hinges seem to be a major complaint as they are known to weaken. Right out of the box, the hinges were very loose and as I tried to type on my lap, the screen had significant bounce and started to move. Once I picked the laptop up to sit on my couch, the screen laid completely flat. I didn't even bother to boot the machine up as this was a complete deal breaker, I could see the hinge becoming a huge problem with time. If you are looking at the Yoga you probably are looking at the Spectre as well, do yourself a favor and get the Yoga, the build quality is fantastic, the screen size is perfect for multi-tasking and the hinge is superb. Great product!!

Slow, always overheating, loud fan, sound is weird
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I definitely overpaid for this laptop. Save your money and get a different brand or just forgo the 2-in-1 convertible laptop altogether. I read reviews on virtually every variety of the Lenovo 920 out there, and the reviews were so overwhelmingly positive that I felt like I couldn't go wrong, especially since I'm a pretty basic user who normally just browses the internet to watch videos and check email and occasionally write papers. However, I have to say that the few negative reviews had the same repeated complaints and within a few days of using this particular Lenovo 920 (4K, 16gb ram, platinum etc), the complaints were all true and all unacceptable not just for this price, but for ANY everyday laptop in 2018. The repeated complaints are as follows: 1. Speed. I barely have anything stored on this laptop, I haven't done anything except browse the internet and use Microsoft Word, and yet sometimes I will finish typing a whole sentence before a single letter shows up on the screen. Waiting for pages to load and switching between programs/tabs is also a pain, even on high speed WiFi. 2. Heat. Again, I haven't done anything taxing on my laptop (with 16gb RAM I would like to!) but it frequently overheats even when I'm not charging it. It doesn't matter what surface I put it on - marble, wood, plastic - it just gets too hot for my hands to even touch the casing while I type or use the mousepad. 3. Loud fan. I didn't think much of this complaint but gosh is it true! The fan is ALWAYS. ON. Even during those moments when the computer isn't heating up! It's just a constantly whirring. I didn't think it would bother me because it doesn't affect the (admittedly terrible) performance of the laptop, but it wasn't until I experienced the endless fan that I realized how loud it was compared to past laptops. I realize I can always turn it off, but given how frequently it overheats, I'm honestly afraid to. 4. Vent placement. Should have put this under the overheating complaint but this is one I didn't see in all my research. I have a feeling that the laptop won't overheat as often if you stick to tablet mode and that's because the vents are placed so that the hinge obstructs the vents in laptop mode. 5. Sound is weird. I don't know if it's the placement of the speakers or the constantly fan whirring, but I constantly feel like I am somehow blocking the speakers somehow because it sounds loud but muffled. Living with other people, sometimes I would like to be able to understand what I'm listening to without resorting to headphones (my ear canals do need a break!) or turning up the volume to the max (and even then it sounds muffled). Why am I still using it: I wanted to return it, but I only bought this at the last minute (with no sales or discounts available) because my Macbook Air died on me a week and a half before the end of my last semester of undergrad and I lived too far away from the store to come back and return it once I started using it and realized what a piece of poorly designed junk it was. I had to leave the country for a few months soon after graduation and the return policy window doesn't cover that. (Plus, I would've needed to replace it with something else with hefty RAM because I was hoping to use this laptop to do run some basic computing software.) The return policy window being a generous 30 days if you buy something expensive enough to bump you up to Elite member status, whereas the regular return policy is only 15 days. I feel like 30 days should be the baseline and a big purchase like this should get at least a few months but maybe that's just me. TL;DR Save your money. I could have bought a less well known laptop for a fraction of what I paid. Not only am I out nearly two thousand dollars from the bumped up price, but I didn't even get to do any substantial work on it. RIP my productivity.

This is a fast system with its Quad-Core/Eight-Thread Intel Core i7-8550U processor, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB solid state hard drive. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Looks Great, Quality Control Needs Improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lenovo did a great job making a laptop that looks terrific, is nice and light, and for the most part, runs pretty well. However, the first one I bought had a bizarre screen malfunction that required replacement within a month. Best Buy and Lenovo replaced it without much fuss but it cost me a full day to deal with. My second one now has another hardware failure - the speakers were faulty from the start - with a weird vibrating sound, then they stopped working and no amount of troubleshooting has fixed it. My two colleagues have these machines though and haven't had issues, so I guess I had some bad luck. On both models, I've also noticed weird recurring errors in Excel (display not updating correctly) and Chrome (crashing when certain pages are open), which I suspect may be due to the lack of a graphics card. Compared to other laptops out there, I still like this device, but they need to improve the quality control.

Good First Impression
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing and setup were uneventful. There is no printed documentation with the packing, except how to enter quiet mode. You can download a manual which covers the basics. You will want to refer to the manual when inserting the batteries in the pen. It took two plus hours to update the system. At one point I encountered a scenerio in which I could not upload one of the updates as a prequisite was not installed. It was, I tried rebooting. That worked and I was able to continue. The only bloatware I encountered was McAfee and some Windows apps, such as Candy Crush. These were easily deleted. I used my Office account to activate Office. For this price I expect a world class machine, and so far I have no concerns except for the lack of documentation. The pdf could have offered more information than it does. I like the novo button on the side that enables me to get into BIOS. I had to google that to find out how to do so. Wireless is strong, The CPU and Drive speed are what I expected. The Build quality is excellent with no blemishes noted. The sound is as ok as you can ask from 2 in 1 laptop speakers. I will update more as I have experience with the machine.

a $1500+ Laptop needs to be a 5 Star Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR You guys really need to start looking at the specifics of the tech you are being shown and sold when you get in to this price range because this is NOT worth the money. I'm okay with being unhelpful but let me just get this out. When you spend $1500+ on a 'laptop' that's only bringing in 4 stars, that should be a red flag unless the reviewer is commenting on things they know nothing about. Also, giving a review 5 stars after 4 hours of ownership is equally bad unless your last computer was an amiga. A $1500 laptop is completely overpriced in and of itself to begin with so if you venture down this path of this benchmark budget killer item you better make sure you are getting the absolute current generation processor, memory and ssd and that just at that alone before you even get in to the screen response time you do a bit of research to see if those 3 are paired well on a $1500 laptop. Are you getting an M2 SSD? Who is the manufacturer of that SSD?Are you getting DDR4 2666 or 3000mhz memory? Are you thinking about this stuff when you are emptying your wallet? Did you know there are multiple versions/tiers of an i7 Processor? What's the bus speed on your processor you are considering? This processor here for example is a 3rd quarter 2017 model. Maybe that doesn't mean much to you but it should, especially when you are dropping $1500 on a 'last years model' laptop with a'basic' low end graphics processor. Not saying this is a failure here but again, $1500 should not be last years processor OR SSD for that matter. It should be a 6 or 8 core processor with 8 threads or more and 16GB RAM for that price, with an M2 drive regardless if 20 year olds who only look at Facebook, Instagram and bashing people in comment threads on it. It is my opinion that the description is lacking some more informative wording and does so purposely because most people just want to see buzz words like 'REAMS OF BANDWIDTH'. The heck does that even mean? Okay not too much detail here because you get the idea, research in more detail the items you are being shown so that you know exactly what you are buying. Me? I had a few Lenovos in my time. My 11s, dead. My Yoga 2 Pro...Dead. 920 you say? Nope gone. My fault? Indeed! The boards died on the 11s and Yoga 2 Pro 2 weeks after my warranties expired at which time the boards were no longer manufactured. Software update from Microsoft rendered the transition feature obsolete. Not even getting in to DTFP, touch screen color rendering/display issues, driver update issues etc, it's like my heck existed once I bought in to Lenovo. Anyway not your problem. You're looking at this review for advice. My advice, stay away from Lenovo, don't shop for laptops at Best Buy unless you want last years tech at over inflated prices, like Costco and do NOT ever deal with Geek Squad because they'll just reimage your laptop ruining everything that comes with your $1500 laptop should you run in to an issue with it and decide to take it to them for help. They sure are cool people though. I have learned my lesson on Lenovo and they have turned in to cheap, overpriced junktops and I do not care how 'watch-like that hinge is. Give me future proof for 5 years, give me support, updates that match and are considerate of my exact model and software. Don't send me to a forum.
