Overall, this laptop was excellent. I had two minor issues with it. The front corners of the case were not well rounded, and after typing on the laptop for a while, I actually had indentations in my palms from the corner of the machine. Now I have big hands, so that may be part of the problem, but I found myself having to adjust how I type rather than just being able to use the laptop. I also tried using this for some graphics intensive programs, and the integrated graphics was having a hard time keeping up with the 4K panel. Overall, the machine was great, but I had a couple of minor issues that made me return it because I didn't see myself using this on a day-to-day basis.

Crazy fast, great construction, 4k and SILENT!

I've had several Lenovo laptops and they have all been exceptional machines. What I wanted from a laptop was a Windows OS/Touchscreen+sylus that looked, felt and functioned like a Macbook. This is it. All aluminum construction, insanely solid hinge that is perfectly overly engineered, super bright 4k display, boot up in 10 seconds, and the best CPU/RAM/SSD. I did not want to spend 2500$ on the comparable version of this and not even have simple touchscreen capability. I paid 1700$ a few months back, but now it is even cheaper. You WILL NOT find another laptop this good anywhere near this price. I literally created a spreadsheet and shopped for 6 months before pulling the trigger on this computer. I'm glad I did. I'm a power user and push this to the edge; it will keep up with you.

    Nothing but problems

I picked this up along with another competing 4k 2 in 1. I really liked the idea of the extra screen size built into the Yoga 920 compared to the alternative. I'm also very impressed by the strength of the watchband hinge. It makes the screen a lot less bouncy than the other 2 in 1, which has a traditional hinge that works fine but isn't as impressive. The Yoga 920's screen is also quite pretty. It's a little dull at low 50% or less brightness, but cranked up, it's beautiful. Unfortunately, the Yoga 920 gave me problems from the moment I first booted it up. I experienced the first of several system freezes in the first hour while the computer was downloading new updates. I rebooted and was able to get the updates finished, leaving only the Win 10 fall update to continue installing. Turns out that update would go on to fail 5 straight times for reasons I am unable to determine -- the other 2 in 1 device updated on the same network without issues. Then the Yoga 920 continued to crash on me -- at least 2 more times in the 4 or so hours I played with it. Other issues: - The fan never stopped running. This may be because of the repeated failed updates continuing to run in the background, most likely. - The headphone jack refused to recognize my earphones. They worked fine on every other device I have, including the other 2 in 1. I was only able to connect to the computer via Bluetooth headphones. - At 96% charged, the battery timer showed 3 hours! This again may be tied back to the failing updates trying to be run in the background. Perhaps the battery would've stabilized once the updates were done. I won't ever know. I gave up on the Yoga 920 within 5 hours of use and packed it back up. It never successfully completed the Win 10 Fall update, failing 5 times. It also failed an Intel Display driver update. It goes back to Best Buy tomorrow, and I'll continue to evaluate the other 2 in 1 which so far has performed quite well and not demonstrated any of these issues.

If you need your laptop to connect to projectors at work or TV at home, stay away from this laptop at all cost. Even Lenovo sold USB-C to HDMI / VGA adopters / hub works with this laptop. I am returning mine today back to BestBuy. Troubleshooted with Lenovo and this is their last reply " "that is all the troubleshooting steps tha t we know for now, once we have the resolution I will suggest to send to yiou a mail" It is not isolated to the one I purchased. Poor battery life of 3-5 hrs != misleading claims

I've have my UHD yoga for a few weeks. The keyboard, touch pad, screen, and responsiveness are nice. There has been some lagginess and poor behavior when switching to tablet mode that is likely attributable to windows 10. Its a decent system, the problem is the real battery life is only 3-5 hours for _light_ use - web surfing, reading email not the 10-15 hours claimed and repeated in every professional review. This is unusable for me. I've tried to optimize settings: turning off cortana, dimming screen brightness, adding more aggressive power saving modes to no avail. I was surprised that when I reported the issue to lenova, Shaine from Lenova customer support stated to only expected 3-5 hours, understand my frustrations and I should contact their sales about lenovo's misleading claims. I have no idea how the reviewers were able to extract the 10+hours they claim Stay away!. Back to my old mac (or perhaps a new dell) who dont lie so blatantly about battery life. Chat session below: " JOE LAW: what battery life should I expect for my yoga 920 JOE LAW: is it the 2-3 hours you first stated Shaine: 3-5 hours is the normal battery life for your unit. Shaine: And all the depends on how the computer being used. Shaine: I understand that and I would feel the same way, that's why you may consult our Sales Team to check what they can do about you concern, Joe.

This model the UDH display model has a battery life of up to 10.5 hours, depending on the work that the device is performing. We have had no reports of dramatic loss of battery life, as you describe. It is not Lenovo making claims of battery life but independent reviewers. Be sure you have no unwanted programs running in the background, draining the battery. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. lenovo

This laptop is great only till it works. Mine died all of a sudden in 2020. It was covid and I was out of the country and Lenovo India support had no clue as to what was the problem despite holding on to it for 3 months. I would have expected better support as I was ready to pay for the repair charges to get this thing up and runnning again. I repent why I spent so much and did not get a Mac with this price. Certainly would not have died down like this one.

Lenovo laptops are not the same old IBM workhorses. Quality is exceedingly low, and service not up to the mark. For my business use, I purchased a high end Lenovo Yoga 900 (in the $1400 range) which immediately after it's 1 yr warranty was over, refused to power up or charge. The Lenovo service center is charging me $80 just to figure out the problem, and has suggested a possible $400 for eventual repair. No other brand I've purchased has given such a terrible experience - Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba, Apple. Why would someone buy a $1500 Lenovo when even the cheapest $300 HP machine doesn't go bust after a year? Lenovo refused to repair it or even tell me what is wrong - free of charge.

    Battery/Charging Issues Since New

I bought this computer new, and have had it for a few years now. My biggest complaints are that the battery never lasts nearly as long as stated. Not to mention that the battery (since new) loses charge while off, eventually goes dead if left long enough. Not to mention that Lenovo has replaced the charger twice under warranty, and I have once post warranty. No one, including Lenovo seems to be able to fix this. For as much as this model cost new, it's very disappointing.

I cant believe it has such good reviews here. In October 2017 I paid $1740 for the i7 7th gen, 16 RAM, 1000 SSD, 2.7 gb processor. It's awful. I sent this for repair 3 times. They were never able to repair the problem that the screen would freeze and black out, and the fact that the PIN, fingerprint scanner, and password alternately didnt work. In addition, these were other problems that they did fix Horrible acrid odor emitting from charging port. Plug in/out changes brightness. Sometimes gets darker when first plug in and stays dark, sometimes the opposite. Super hot after a few hours of use. Took longer and longer to wake up After one month, could not recharge battery DONT BUY.

We are sorry to hear you are having issues with your Yoga 920-14. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window. Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. Concerning the screen diming when on battery, it sounds like the power setting on your device is set to dim the screen to extend battery life, when on the battery. You can change this in the Control Panel Power settings on your device. You can get to these settings by clicking on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "Control Panel" in the search window. Select Control Panel from the list. In the Control Panel window that opens, type "Power" in the Control Panel Window search box at the top right of the Control Panel Window. It enter and select "Edit power plan" from the list. You will see the power settings for your device currently. Check the power settings for On Battery. There is a slider that adjusts screen brightness. Make sure this is set to match what the Plugged In slider is set at. When you are finished making adjustments, click "Save" at the bottom right of the window. With regard to the odor you describe, be sure you are plugging the device side power plug all the way in to prevent possible arcing while the device is plugged in. As for the device generating heat, This is a high performance system with its Intel Core i-7 processor and 16GB of RAM. It will generate heat whenever it is turned on, even at idle, this is normal. The onboard fan will maintain the proper operating temperature for the device. You will hear the fan whenever it runs, this too is normal. If the issues still continue after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help. lenovo

    Total Motherboard failure

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought the Lenovo Yoga 920 14" from Best Buy at the end of May. 10 days ago, the computer had a total motherboard failure. One minute it was working great the next it is completely dead. Lenovo sent a tech to my house today who spent 5 hours here and it still isn't fixed! (nice guy who worked very hard to fix it). I then spent an extra 2 hours on the phone with Lenovo's tech support and that didn't work either. Lenovo is now requesting that i send it back to them which will take approx 3 weeks to look at and "maybe" fix. I asked several times what it takes to get a new laptop sent out after spending so much time and effort to get this one fixed, but they said no every time! I bought this Lenovo 920 and paid ($1800!). Far more than the other laptops at Best Buy based on the notion that their computers are better built and more reliable than Dell, HP, etc... Wow, was i wrong! I will be without a work computer for a month by the time this all gets sorted out. While this is a beautiful, fast computer I would highly recommend staying away from this product. If/when you get a bad one, just know you will have to spend countless hours and days and months trying to get it back up and running.

I don't normally write reviews, but I have to give everyone a "Heads Up" with this brand of computer. I purchased my Lenova Yoga 920 less than 6 months ago and it had to go in twice for factory repairs for hardware failures. Within less than 3 months, the motherboard burned out. Lenova sent me a prepaid UPS box and off it went for 7 weeks. About 2 months later, I noticed the sound wasn't working. Phoned Lenovo again, and they determined that the sound card was fried. I use this laptop for e-mail and surfing the net, nothing else. It sits on my work desk and isn't moved around. There is NO reason these components on such an expensive computer should fail. If you purchase this computer, be prepared for something to fail, hopefully within the warranty period. When the next component fails and Lenovo says I have to pay for the repair because the warranty expired, this computer is going in the trash! Not worth the money. Buy a $200 laptop.

It was a great laptop, when it was functional and when it wasn't away for repair. There is a faulty part on the motherboard of many of these laptops that cause the speakers to fail and eventual power issues that result in complete failure. See this discussion board to gauge how prevalent the issue is. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-Yoga-920-No-sound/m-p/4003227/highlight/false#M62299 For this reason, I can't recommend this laptop. The issue you refer to concerning no audio on the Yoga 920-14 is due to a Windows 10 update that conflicts with existing audio drivers. This issue is easily repaired by updating both the BIOS and audio drivers on the Yoga 920-14. This can be accomplished by the user, using the Lenovo Utility software installed on this computer. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. It's a great machine - EXCEPT the 4K SCREEN

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I really wanted to keep this laptop, it had everything I wanted, and the 4K screen is beautiful, BUT BEWARE! Some of your legacy programs may not appear as you'd like on the 4K screen. Two in particular I had: Quickbooks 2016 and Adobe Lightroom V3. They appeared fine on my old Toshiba and ran with no problem for years. But when I loaded them onto the new Lenovo, they would not paginate correctly. In both cases the window frame of the application was shrunken - that is, the title bar, scroll bar, and minimize-maximize-close buttons were all at like a 2 point font, far too small for a touchscreen. In Lightroom all the functional icons were also way too small; in Quickbooks they were either too big or too smashed together as to be unreadable. This was not a question of adjusting the screen size or percentage; believe me, I spent hours on the internet, calling Intuit, and toggling everything about the display. Many other programs worked and looked fine: Chrome, Office (latest version), folders and settings windows, all looked normal, so it wasn't a question of changing a setting because it would have an effect on all programs, not just the ones that were bad. Just google "Quickbooks 2016 does not work on 4K screen" and you'll see what I mean. I was told by Intuit that they are aware of the problem and they do not have a fix (or not yet) for the 2016 version on 4K screens. But they said the 2017 and 18 versions should will work fine. If you are running the absolutely latest programs, you probably won't have a problem. But I have far too many business and personal apps I use and I can't go spending hundreds of dollars to upgrade my apps and programs. So I had to return this otherwise fine Lenovo for something without a 4K screen. (And the programs downloaded and appeared just fine on the new computer). If you do go with the Lenovo, make sure you download the important programs you need and check them out before your return opportunity runs out (usually 14 days, but check your store). Good luck!

Thank you for trying the Lenovo Yoga 920-14. We are sorry to hear that your older programs are not compatible with 4K resolution. It is true some legacy programs that were created prior to the introduction of 4K resolution may not be compatible with 4K. You should be able to down scale the screen resolution to a compatible resolution to use these legacy programs with a 4K screen. lenovo

No Sound. Save $$ and look elsewhere.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this machine in Lancaster, PA in December 2017. I use the machine for work, grad school, and personal. TL; DR: some of these machines have a flaw that impacts speakers, so if you need this machine as a daily AND intend to play music from it, maybe look elsewhere. The good: Fine as a computer (computes fine) and reliable now that they've patched the BIOS in March 2018. The bad: Flaw in setup, and bad to be a customer in need of support/help/advice. The sound went on my Yoga 920 in February 2018. I've done everything I can do to fix it short of sending it in, including reaching out to Lenovo, forums, etc. If you're like me, where you are on your machine 10+ hours/day, 350+ days/year, then you'll likely agree that it's a slap in the face to pay $1600 for a computer that doesn't produce sound and for which they expect you to send in for several weeks at a time (and many, many dozens of data points to suggest sending the PC in for a motherboard swap does not fix the issue long-term and it is likely faulty electronics). The cost to me to send my machine in and be without a functioning device would be measured in the thousands, so I just let others know that if it's sound you're after maybe don't take the risk on this. The BIOS had an issue until around March of 2018 that prevented the PC's display from kicking back on after sleep (so it had to be hard-booted to get screen). I could not get BIOS help from anywhere other than the forums, and again, I cannot afford to be without my machine to send it in. Finally, and magically, a patch appeared. Lenovo should probably offer to rebate the likely hundreds (if not thousands) of people who have purchased flawed machines and at a >$1,500 cost if they don't intend to issue refunds. There are several forums out there where individuals have sent their machines in 3 times, got the motherboard switched, and the sound goes within a few days.

This laptop might seem like the cream of the crop and that it is the best in the market. I have to say this was my biggest regret. Purchasing the Lenovo 920 Yoga over the HP Spectre x360 was a dumb decision. I contemplated for a long time on which to get, but ended up making the decision to get the Yoga because a relative was enjoying their Yoga. It wasn’t even in 2 weeks in that I already experienced problems. All of the USB-C ports stopped working meaning that I could not charge the laptop, reducing it to an overpriced piece of junk. And when you try to call Lenovo Technical Support, they are no helpful at all. They could not even tell you how to solve the problem and furthermore they will keep postponing your problems until the warranty expires. Then you are left to deal with it yourself. My Yoga is currently just taking up space in my house and everytime I look at it I am reminded of my stupidity. If you are thinking of getting the Yoga, don’t bother. The quality resembles that of a $100 laptop and the support is minimal. Please do not take my review as a triad against Lenovo, because I really did have great hopes for Lenovo, but I was left disappointed and frustrated. Head my warning to not purchase the laptop, just getting anything else but this brand. Anything would be better.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We are sorry to hear about the charging issue you are having with your Lenovo Yoga 920-14. First, be sure it is not the AC adapter/charger that is the problem. If you are near a Best Buy Store location, take your Yoga 920-14 to the store. Ask a sales representative if you can try a Lenovo USB-c AC adapter/Charger from a Yoga 920-14 that is on display. If your Yoga 920-14 indicates it is charging when you try another AC adapter/charger, you just need to replace the AC adapter/charger. Best Buy should have a replacement AC adapter/charger in the store. Second, if the problem persists, try a hard reset of the non-removable battery. Here is a link to instructions for resetting a non-removable battery. If you need further assistance, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686.
