OLED display not color calibrated issues

I was very excited about these new breed of snapdragon laptops with OLED displays but I am disappointed. The design is beautiful, the dark blue color is pleasing, holding the laptop felt nice. The key board felt okay, not the best, but the bleeding lights from underneath the keys is not pleasing in the dark, the power button is in a horrible position, and the electronic camera blocker is also not good, I prefer an actual cover over the camera. The speed of the laptop is good, snappy. No heat no fan noise that I could detect. Battery life is better than intel laptops, but not as good as it is being siad, we seen better on current tablets. Here is my main issue with this laptop, now windows is the only OLED alternative to Apple laptops. That motivated me to go back to Windows. I wanted to have a laptop with an OLED display. The problem is the OLED display on these laptops is not good for watching movies. The OLED display is not color calibrated, everything looks yellow, redish and movies don't look sharp. And here comes Windows and its drivers saga, somehow in one of the powerdown shut off, the computer did an update that downloaded a driver and color management software XRITE without my authorization, I was excited and surprised, but it didn't give me any way to adjust the colors, only the option to choose different ICC profiles which didn't help the situation. I also try the windows own color calibration with no sucess either. No matter what I did, skin colors never looked natural. Apple still king when it comes to well calibrated display on all their devices out of the box with no efforts on my part. By the way, I also tried the ASUS PZ13 Proart and the Samsung Book Edge 4, they all use the same snapdragon ship, and they all share the same OLED panel display with the same situation, very yellow, very red bias colors and no way to adjust it.

Pros: design and feel, OLED screen, battery life, light weight, top value/price for the specs you get, works absolutely fine after you install required updates. Cons: would have liked to see more ports but definitely not a deal breaker. Web browsing, videos and music, doc editing, file syning to cloud was seamless. Geekbench 6 scores were 2465 single core and 13733 multi core.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x Review - It's Special

I have posted a video review on Youtube under the same name as this written review. Please head over there to see this laptop in action, otherwise continue reading for written review. :) The Yoga Slim 7x is the latest premium ultrabook from Lenovo and is a MacBook Air competitor and boy does it rival one of Apple’s finest laptops in every way shape and form! I have owned an M1 MacBook Air for nearly three years now and this Yoga Slim 7x has left me dumbfounded, in awe and even considering switching back to Windows. Let’s discuss everything great (and a few bad) about the Yoga Slim 7x! Firstly, the overall design of the Yoga Slim 7x is (subjectively) beautiful. I appreciate the simplistic brand placing on the lid and palm rest. The color of the laptop stands out in being a deep cosmic blue, rather than grey or black. Although, I would love this in a white color option, but it would be (even) more difficult to clean. The Yoga Slim 7x is crafted from a plastic polymer, which allows it to be lighter, however the surface of this material is prone to smudges! You’ll need to keep a microfiber cloth handy, because you’ll be wiping it down multiple times a day if you like to keep things tidy. My favorite thing about the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is the screen. It literally does everything well and is the shining star of this laptop. It’s a 14.5” 2944x1840 resolution (3k) glossy touchscreen display. It is HDR-capable with 1000nits brightness and even has a 90Hz refresh rate! But best of all, the panel is an OLED panel, which means you get deep, inky black levels! This helps boost the overall contrast and allows colors to absolutely pop! Trust me, once you go OLED, you’ll never go back. And this screen is giving me second thoughts of going back to my MacBook Air. It’s truly a gorgeous screen. The panel is also a color-accurate panel with a 100% sRGB and 100% P3 ratings (according to Lenovo, I wasn’t able to test this with my spyder calibrator, unfortunately). The screen has thin bezels surrounding it and there is an extended lip at the top of the screen which I think may have been necessary for the web-camera and IR components, but it also provides a place to grip the lid when opening the laptop. Tertiarily, it gives the laptop a distinct look and makes the Yoga Slim 7x standout from their square counterparts and I think it’s a wonderful decision on Lenovo’s part. The hinge of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is tight and provides excellent stability when maneuvering or typing. The hinge allows the screen to open nearly 165-degrees so there’s plenty of variety for screen-placement. The only negative on the hinge is that it is too tight fort the weight of the laptop. The base of the laptop isn’t heavy enough to prevent it from jumping off your desk when you try to open the lid, and it requires two hands to open. Internally, is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XElite X1E78100 12-Core (3.40 GHz) Processor. This is an ARM-based processor and it’s extremely impressive. Not all programs (mainly games) utilize ARM-based processors to their fullest, however with my testing (premiere, photoshop and gaming) it left me in awe. This processor will handle whatever you throw at it and do so quietly and without any slowdown. The Snapdragon XElite processor has Qualcomm’s Adreno integrated GPU and it performed admirably while gaming, but it mainly depended on the game and if the developer’s had optimized the game for ARM-processors. Ori and the Blind Forest ran beautifully at 83fps, while an older game like Bioshock infinite ran at a measly 42fps. Uncharted: A Thiefs End didn’t launch at all! For games optimized for the XElite, it will provide a solid gaming experience, but this laptop wasn’t curated for gaming, so don’t expect it to perform as one. The integrated GPU will be useful for content creators however. Both photoshop and premiere ran without any issues and I was able to edit 4k video. There was some minor slow-down when effects or graphics were integrated, but that was to be expected. With a little patience, you can get the job done with this laptop. The keyboard on the Lenovo is another star. It’s a full-size, backlit keyboard and the keys have great travel (1.5mm!!!). Each keycap is large, but not overly so; There is a lot of surface area to mash the key while not being unobtrusively so, allowing you to be efficient and effective while typing. It really is an awesome keyboard and it just feels wonderful with each stroke. They’re quiet too. I normally type pretty aggressively (sorry co-workers and random guy next to me on the red eye!) and some keyboards emphasize that with the type of switch they utilize. The switches on this keyboard are fairly quiet while maintaining a satisfying click. It’s extremely impressive and something I noticed immediately. One last thing on the keyboard. The backlight doesn’t have it’s own dedicated key on the function row. You have to hold down the function button and press the space bar to change the lighting. There is 3 levels of lighting options: low, high or none at all. There is a fourth option, auto, which is where I leave it at and it suited me fine across my time with the Yoga Slim 7x. The trackpad looks and feels like it was designed by Apple. It’s large, ultra-responsive and I never thought of it once while using the laptop, which is probably the highest compliment I can give a trackpad. Not once, did my palms activate the trackpad while typing and it always was responsive to any gesture I threw at it. The only non-apple thing about it is the trackpad is using a hinge-style click mechanism, rather than haptic feedback. Overall it feels wonderful to click and I think you’re really going to love interfacing with this laptop. The speakers are configured in a 4-speaker array. Two are top-facing speakers (housed under the speaker grills adjacent the keyboard) while the other two are configured under the laptop. The two speakers on the base of the laptop are oriented in a manner to provide dimensionality rather than extension. By this I mean, instead of opting for a tweeter and subwoofer configuration, Lenovo added two extra speakers on the bottom to add spatial awareness to music. All four speakers play the same part of the track, unless the studio mixed the song in a way to utilize stereo configuration. This was instantly recognizable when listening to a track fom Sabrina Carpenter or Billie Eilish versus Pink Floyd. Songs just aren’t mixed today like they were fifty years ago (for better or worse). This configuration allows more simulated depth to the sound, making it feel three-dimensional rather than adding actual depth to the music with a separate subwoofer. Even so, the sound is enveloping and overall, is clean and clear, including at low volumes. The mid-range is a tinge too flat while the highs can become fatiguing over time. My only complaint is there is zero bass extension or low end to speak of. It does reach an ear-splitting maximum of 81.5 db’s if you want to be a nuisance at your local coffee shop. The web-camera is awesome. The image is crisp, clear and colors are reproduced faithfully. There is no artifacts or washout anywhere. It looks beautiful and is on par with the web-cameras in Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup. Lenovo could have easily skimped on this and slapped a 720p web-camera, but they did the noble thing and included a 1080p web-camera. This is excellent understanding of your target audience from Lenovo. They know this laptop is for the student and power-user travelers, where video conferencing is crucial, so including the best possible web-camera (while maintaining a slim body) was pertinent for a successful product and they nailed it. There is also an IR sensor adjacent the web-camera and this allows for facial recognition sign-in (windows hello). This has been my preferred method of signing into a pc since the Surface Pro 3. It’s quick, effortless and works every time. Battery lasted 15 hours and 42 minutes on minimum brightness while streaming youtube. Lenovo claims a 23 and a half hour batter life. A bold claim I got nowhere near in my testing. However, the battery life on this laptop is phenomenal and it should last your entire workday without any issues or should make the perfect companion while traveling. Recharging the yoga slim 7x was quick to at 1 hour and 28 minutes. The Yoga Slim 7x is extremely thin at 12 milimeters (0.51 inches)! This makes it a portable beast, and when combined with everything else (processor, screen, etc) it becomes a portable powerhouse! However, to gain something, you have to skimp elsewhere. This elsewhere on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is the port selection and it is the weakest thing about this laptop. We live in a USB-C world, which is equally a wonderful and terrible thing. It’s wonderful in that we’re reaching the point of universality, but when it’s the only port on a laptop, I begin to grumble. There is three USB-type C ports on the Yoga slim 7x and you can charge or display video from any of them, which provides some flexibility. If you don’t have a usb type c hub, you’ll be relying on usb type-c to usb type-a adapters for any legacy peripherals or drives. Overall this laptop checks all the boxes (in my opinion) when you're looking for an excellent laptop. It has a gorgeous OLED HDR 90hz screen, powerful internals, excellent keyboard and trackpad and it has all-day battery life. All while being extremely lightweight! It's a special laptop!

Windows 11 on arm uses 67GB space so you are basically left with 400GB storage. A normal x86 windows uses around 30gb storage. This laptop has an idle memory/RAM usage of ~6GB or 40% of 16GB. The moment you open a browser, like Brave browser, the RAM usage goes up to 60%. in comparison, my desktop pc, x86 computer, uses ~3GB or ~20% of the 16GB RAM. The Brave browser also uses less RAM in my x86 computer than this windows on arm laptop. let's talk about compatibility issues. As an electrical and computer engineer, there are many different programs that we need to use. first, I installed AMD xilinx Vitis/Vivado. the computer did struggle during the installation. Even though the CPU usage was around 40%, there was a lot of stuttering when I was trying to listen to a music with only one tab being open in Brave browser. the installation was successful but the driver installation was not as it gave an error. after that, I was able to open a project in Vivado. I dont think you will be able to program your fpga board as its driver was not installed successfully. next thing, I installed LabView software by national instruments. it was installed successfully but when i opened the laptop crashed and gave a blue screen error. but the blue screen did not go away even after restarting the laptop multiple times. finally, i had to go back to a restore point so i could use the laptop again. when I did that, windows deleted all the programs I downloaded so i had to start the process again. Recently, I installed Arduino IDE to see if I can program the esp32 microcontrollers I have. the program itself works good but there are not port to choose to program the dev boards. I did install CP210x drivers but the issue is still there. one good story, I was able to install and run Ngspice and Magic softwares for VLSI. For that, I enabled Windows subsystem for linux feature and installed Ubuntu from windows store. Battery life has been pretty good. I would say pretty close to my m1 macbook pro. one difference is that the fan kicks in once in a while but the fan is off most of the time. The screen is OLED so it is much better than non OLED screen laptops. The speakers are good enough, lacks some mid frequecies as low and high frequencies are there. My macbook has mid frequencies too. I like upward speakers and I will make sure my next laptop has speakers upward kicking. So, overall this laptop has been not good for me but will be good or good enough for many others as most people don't use the aforementioned softwares. many people buy macbooks for their battery life and this is definitely a good alternative.

An excellent choice for a light yet very powerful laptop for office productivity. Have not yet identified an application that won’t run because of the ARM version of windows. The screen is fantastic as is battery life. In conclusion, a very satisfactory purchase for my needs (office productivity with mostly Microsoft 365 apps).

I got notice from Best Buy that my laptop is finally ready for pick up after a necessary reset. I love the laptop because of its light weight, brilliant display en the integrated AI option. I had to buy a dongle because of the Lack of usb outlets. There are only 3 usb-c outlets what is not enough for me. That is until now the only negative aspect. The 512 GB are more that enough for me, most of my data goes into a cloud anyhow. The processor if absolutely great, very fast and for the way I use the laptop more than enough. I don't play any games but use it for Office stuff. Overall I would say that this laptop is a great buy if you don't game with it.

Great solid lightweight laptop, battery life isn’t any better than my current AMD laptop about 7 hours with use of Microsoft ARM software. AI features expect voice to text offline translations are locked behind a Microsoft account meaning you have to log into an account to use it. The REAL AI features require a copilot plus (paid) account and even those features are currently restricted on this laptop. I feel that this is an incomplete product at this time.. maybe if this laptop was at a $600-700 price point but not currently a value at $1200

I've been using this laptop for work, and it has been consistently lasting around 12 hours which is absolutely fantastic! I was a bit iffy about the IPS screen originally but it's one of the best I have seen personally. Not exactly OLED level but REALLY close. It also is completely silent and stays cool so you never get uncomfortable when resting it on your stomach or legs.

Bottom line up front: If you use laptops for Microsoft applications, web browsing, email, video conferencing and content consumption, you should definitely buy this laptop and you will not regret it. This is hands down the best laptop I've ever owned. I was on the fence regarding the compatibility issues I read about Windows on ARM. However, when I really assessed my use case, none of those issues were a factor. I only use my laptops for Microsoft Office, web browsing, video calls, and consuming content. Everything can be done with native ARM applications. Any gaming I do is on consoles or Steam Deck, so the reported issues with gaming compatibility and Windows on ARM are not a consideration for me. This laptop is snappy, smooth and responsive. I've never had any issues with lag or slowdown of any kind. I'm one of those internet users that has a million tabs open and it's never been a problem. It boots up quickly from either a completely powered off state or from standby mode. One of my favorite parts of this computer and Lenovo in general is the keyboard. I love having keys with longer key travel and Lenovo utilized their longer key travel keyboard in this design. It has made this a joy to type on. I've read criticisms about this having a "diving board" style trackpad rather than haptic one, but the quality is good and I don't mind the old school tech for trackpads. Overall, the battery life has been incredible; not as insanely long as advertised but by far the longest lasting battery life I've ever had in a Windows laptop. For my use and as a nice bonus there is minimal drain on the battery when it's in sleep mode. One of the biggest selling points for me was the OLED screen. It is nothing short of incredible and I'm usually picky about image quality on computer screens. I don't see this mentioned a lot, but I am prone to the "screen door" effect on computer screens that makes certain OLED touchscreens (usually those that have pen support due to an additional screen layer necessary for pen use) appear grainy when looking at white backgrounds such as Word documents or webpages. When it exists and you can tell, it's awful and you can't un-see it. Though this is a touchscreen, it does not provide pen support to my knowledge, and thus does not appear grainy as if looking through a screen door. I also love that the screen is 14.5" and has a bit more viewing space than a typical 14" laptop without increasing the chassis size by much at all. It is lightweight but sturdy and super easy to transport. Definitely has a premium build quality. I've taken this on a few flights already and it's been great. It also generally just looks fantastic in the cosmic blue. It does pick up a ton of fingerprints, but due to the surface material it cleans up perfectly with some lens cleaner and microfiber cloth. My ONLY complaint about this laptop, which is not a big deal, is the lack of legacy ports like USB-A or a headphone/microphone jack. Those issues are negated by using USB-C adaptors, which I've done and adjusted to. However, I do often use 3.5mm jack wired headphones as well as a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that has a USB-A dongle. As I said though, it's only slightly annoying to have to use the adaptors and I've gotten used to it at this point. I can't recommend this laptop enough for everyday use if you're like me and want a solid, dependable and overall snappy performing machine for basic tasks. The Snapdragon processor has delivered a huge benefit to batter conscious light task users. Lenovo has absolutely nailed it with this laptop and done a huge service to Windows users.

The Lenovo Slim 7x is a great laptop which is bringing windows into the new era of laptops with the switch to Arm chips. The Lenovo Slim 7x is a beautifully crafted laptop which is light so you can take it anywhere and powerful enough to use for most of your needs with a battery that just keeps going. When it comes to laptops one of the biggest buying points is the screen and this is one of the best screens on the market. The screen gets up to 1000 nits brightness when needed and for the first time in a windows laptop the auto adjust brightness works correctly. The colors pop and the brightness is more than enough even for a sunny California day. Even with the Slim 7x being a touch screen there is no wobble to the screen, the hinges are tightened perfectly so you can open it with one finger and have no wobble when typing. The touch response on the screen is great and I have never had to a touch not register. The keyboard is great to type on, the spring back from the keys is perfect and key travel is good to help avoid fatigue when typing. The backlighting on the works well at night, my only knock is that there is no dedicated key to brighten or dim the keyboard. The Trackpad on the Slim 7x works great, all the gestures worked correctly, and the palm rejection worked as intended. Even with all of that said I wish that Slim 7x had a haptic trackpad, it is one of few additions I wish Lenovo had added. The camera is a windows hello camera so it can log you in just with your face and it works great so you can take all meetings and look great. The AI background blurring affect works as intended and does a great job with keeping you in focus. Now the star of the show for this laptop (besides its overall built) is the Snapdragon processor and so far I like what I see. The Slim 7x is able to keep 30+ chrome tabs open (with chrome running in emulation) and the CPU usage is below 4% with all of the tabs active. I was blown away with the battery life when compared to other windows machines when it came to regular task (browsing/videos/Microsoft suite). Over all I did have chrome restart/crash on me twice but I did not experience any slow downs at any point. The Snapdragon X elite is a great chip and can handle most everyday task without issue. I tried to run a few games on the Slim 7x and lets just say its not for gaming, I have a feeling the issue has to do with windows. The reason I say this is I played a few games on it and did not notice the GPU/CPU/NPU spike at all, the only thing that happened was most of the ram was used. I found 4 things that I did not like about the laptop which I feel need to be changed to make this an absolute must have. 1. Fingerprint magnet. No matter where you touch this laptop you will leave fingerprints. 2. GPU: This needs an upgrade to help play games (I am speaking of games which are running in emulation) 3. Speakers: The speakers are not loud enough, now I get most people aren’t going to use for music without speakers but the sound does leave me wanting more. 4. Ports: There are only 3 ports on this laptop which means dongles….. Lenovo has created a great device, easily one of the best regardless of your OS preference or price. There is little to no bloatware and the small touches Lenovo has done , smaller palm rest (finally my watch isn’t scraping and making that horrible noise) , make this an absolutely wonderful device. Compared to all of the other X Elite laptops this is the one with the least sacrifices and the most premium in the windows lineup. Now everyone will try to compare this to Apple and it is very similar to the Macbook pro launch, great built with amazing battery life. Just like the Macbook M1 the native apps work and there is no fan noise at all. I would say the native apps for windows work better than the native apps for the M1 on initial launch, there is no lag to launching programs and having 30+ tabs open without heating up or crashing is great. Now don’t get me wrong the emulation isn’t perfect and there is work to be done but if this is the worst windows on arm is going to be than I am excited to see where windows on ARM will be in 3 months.

This laptop is as close to being the complete package as any Windows machine that I've used. It's the perfect combination: * Gorgeous OLED display that's bright and really pops. * The backlit keyboard is buttery smooth and typical of Lenovo's near best in class. * The build exudes a premium, sleek look, and the Cosmic Blue color is classy and a nice break from black and platinum. * It's a slim and light machine, coming in well under 3 pounds. It's about the same weight as the MacBook Air. It's easy to carry in a backpack. * The new Snapdragon X Elite chip is noticeably snappier than even the latest Intel and AMD offerings. * The battery life also is much longer than other Windows machines with those chips. * The trackpad is responsive and is an ideal size -- not so big that it crowds the keyboard and not so small that it's hard to use. I've been using versions of the Lenovo X1 Carbon for years. But I was never happy with the screen quality, the smallish trackpad, the limited battery life and the high price tag. This laptop solves those problems. The screen is stunning. The trackpad is a vast improvement. The battery has much more endurance. And you get all of those advantages at a competitive price point. All of that said, there are three things that keep this from perfection. First, the screen has a 90 refresh rate, rather than a 120 rate on the Surface 7 and MacBook Pro. That's not a dealbreaker, but my eye notices the difference when quickly scanning text. The trackpad is nice, but it's not haptic so it's not quite as easy to use. The port selection is limited to 3 USB-Cs -- no HDMI or audio jack. So, you may need a dongle. I'm mostly an Apple MacBook Pro and Air user and have been for years. But I need a Windows laptop for certain work tasks. I think this laptop has the build, keyboard, processing power, comparable (not as good) battery life and portability of a MacBook Air -- and it has a better OLED display. This is a superb laptop for the money.

I’ve been using the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x for a few months now, and it’s quickly become my go-to laptop. First off, the design is super sleek and lightweight, which is a huge plus for me since I’m often carrying it around from place to place. It fits easily into my backpack without weighing me down. Performance-wise, it’s surprisingly powerful for its size. I regularly have multiple tabs open, plus apps like Photoshop and Zoom running, and it never slows down. The battery life also holds up well; I can go through most of the day without scrambling for a charger, which is great when I’m working away from home. The display is another standout feature. Whether I'm binge-watching shows or doing some light photo editing, the colors are vibrant, and everything looks crisp. Plus, the keyboard is comfortable to type on—something I appreciate during long work sessions. All in all, the Yoga Slim 7x feels like a perfect balance of portability and performance. It’s practical for everyday use, without sacrificing power or style.

What an excellent machine! Fits my use cases perfectly. I needed a laptop to take to and from work (I work in healthcare) to do paperwork, charting, word processing and presentations, browse the web, and consume content on. Disclaimer: I built a powerful desktop for gaming and content creation so I did not buy this laptop needing or expecting it to do those things. But for general use? WOW. Build quality is excellent, feels really sturdy and high quality while being thin, light, and extremely portable. The keyboard is true to form for Lenovo: the keys feel great with good travel and have a nice texture. The touchpad is on par with most other Windows laptops: perfectly fine but not amazing. The blue chassis is also a huge fingerprint magnet but this is unfortunately the case for many laptops these days. Fingerprints aside, it is a very attractive laptop. I also appreciate the camera bump because it makes it easy to open with one hand and makes the screen more immersive instead of having a big notch. Speaking of the screen: it is lovely. Colors are vibrant and brightness is such that you can easily see in direct sunlight (although the glossy finish does cause some reflections). The speakers are very good; I wouldn't use them to watch a movie in a huge room but they more than do the job for casual use and are impressive for a laptop this slim and light. Thanks to the new snapdragon chip, this machine absolutely sips battery, easily giving a full day of use on a charge. Happy to report that it has standby time rivaling the M3 MacBook Air I recently parted ways with. Even with the lowest specced Snapdragon X Elite chip, performance has been impressive. It's very speedy: nothing I have ever done on it has slowed it down noticeably. Opening it from sleep, it is pretty much instantly ready to resume whatever you were doing. App compatibility for my purposes has been great: the only program I use that doesn't have an official ARM version yet is Tidal. I can imagine people needing specialized programs might have more trouble with compatibility so if you have specific programs you absolutely need to be able to use do your research or stick with Intel or AMD for now. In summary: I am extremely satisfied with this laptop and highly recommend it if your use cases are similar to mine. I feel comfortable saying it is the some of the best bang for your buck you will get in a general use laptop. Strong work Lenovo!

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x has a premium build quality and impressive performance, particularly with its Snapdragon X Elite processor. It handles everyday tasks efficiently and offers excellent battery life, often exceeding 10 hours of real-world use. The 3K OLED display delivers vibrant visuals, although it can be prone to reflections, especially in certain lighting conditions. However, there are notable drawbacks. Being ARM-based, the laptop faces software limitations, as not all applications are optimized for this architecture, leading to potential compatibility issues. Moreover, while the device boasts an integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit), its utility is currently limited as there's little to no software that effectively leverages it. The AI features via Windows 11's Copilot were heavily hyped before release, but they fall short in execution. The integration is limited, and after using up the initial tokens, you're prompted to subscribe for additional features. Unfortunately, these functionalities lag behind other large language models (LLMs) available today, making the Copilot experience underwhelming for users expecting more advanced AI capabilities. In conclusion, while the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x excels in design, display, and battery life, it struggles with software support and fails to live up to the pre-release hype around its AI features
