We bought 2 of these and neither one works reliably. We don't have any Apple or Amazon devices and only use the lock via Bluetooth. The level lock unlocks too slow via Bluetooth. And from time to time it will have a mechanical error and not lock or unlock. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving the house without a key. If Level had separate device that will maintain a connection to the lock and to WiFi like the way August does I think it would be a lot better.

Maybe the only good thing is the fact that you use you’re normal deadbolt, so it aesthetically pleasing. The auto unlock is terrible. IF it works, you’re standing at the door for 30 seconds waiting for it to realize you’re there. The keypad that I purchased separately only works for a day before it has to be reprogrammed. This was an awesome idea, but it falls short for me. I HATE that it’s Bluetooth only. There’s no Wi-Fi. The final straw that makes me return it is that it wouldn’t let me in at all tonight. Locked the door with the keypad, came back and it wouldn’t Auto Unlock, opened the app and it said it was unlocked, but it wasn’t. App wouldn’t unlock the door. Thankfully had other ways in the house. Getting returned.

Required a hub and homekit connection to be remotely operated. Required to have deadbolt not tightened securely in order to elim errors from difficult operation. Thought it would be a nice feature to be hidden within the door but after a couple days, returned and purchased an August lock instead.

We are sorry to hear about your recent return. You are correct, a home integration platform is required for remote control. With your lock connected to HomeKit or Sidewalk / Ring, you can access your lock from anywhere, control with your voice, create home automations, and more. In regards to your door fit, our locks are designed to fit ANSI (American National Standards Institute) specifications. I have been wanting a lock like this for a long time. I wanted full Apple Homekit integration, and preferably something that wasn't big, bulky, and stupid looking. I got even more than just that with the Level Bolt, being able to also integrate with my Ring alarm system on top of Homekit. Using the pulldown menu on my phone to be able to see status and lock or unlock my door at any time I want is fantastic. It works like a charm and has been perfectly reliable so far. If I want to while I'm messing with my Ring system for notifications or arming I can also set the lock from there so another option doesn't hurt. In both cases it works great with little lag and I am yet to see it malfunction in any way.
Installation is easy if you are handy. My existing Quickset deadbolt was a perfect match for this kit. It includes several adapters for different locks and you can check on their website to see if yours will work. I simply removed the deadbolt, followed the instructions for picking the right adapter and setting the right depth, and put it all together in minutes. I opted to use a dremel to slightly widen my existing strike plate instead of using the included one because mine uses 4 screws instead of 2 and is not only more secure, but would have created a problem going from two screws on either side to one centered between the holes that would have been left behind. Even the dremel use only took a minute or two. Not a necessary step at all, but if you know how its an option depending on your setup. It all looks exactly like it did before but is now smartphone operated. Having the original key as a backup is a good thing as well.
Using the Level app is easy, and helps you setup the lock and get Homekit working. It worked great and I have no complaints at all. Everything about this lock is what I wanted, and for Apple users I don't see how it could be better! It looks great, as in not like the typical huge smart or keypad operated deadbolt, and functions as well as should be expected from a security item. I am very happy with how well it works and giving me greater peace of mind on top of all of it is even better.

Hidden Smart Lock

I have a lot of smart devices in my home including smart locks, but this one is unique in that it doesn't let others know that it is even there. The Level Bolt sits inside a standard doorknob cutout and works with either the Level app or Apple Homekit (I think there is an option for Android phones, but I don't have one so can't speak to it).
This install should have been very easy...take off the existing bolt and hardware, install the new bolt and connect to the app. Voila! All Done. However, the builder of our condo didn't use standard sizes, so after a couple of trips to Menard's to get a hole saw for my drill and a new deadbolt mechanism (another non-standard item from the builder), I was all finished with the physical install.
It took another couple minutes to download the Level app and get the lock working via my phone. I was able to lock and unlock the bolt as soon as it was connected. That being said, the app doesn't have all the things I would want. For example, I can see who and when the door was last locked/unlocked, but I don't see an option to view history beyond that.
You can also provide guest access via the app, which is really handy, but you can't send a message with text/email to explain that it wasn't a random spam message. You can provide "Always" access or setup one time or a recurring pattern with start and end dates/times. There is also an option to create a pass, which allows you to share the access via a link.
Overall, I like the lock and usage is pretty simple. I'll have to play with the settings on Apple Home to see if I get a little more alerting than is available currently in the Level app. I definitely like it, but just make sure you have the standard size hole on your door or be ready to drill it out to fit the smart lock.

I love that you can use this with your own lock so you don't need to change keys.
It's literally hidden inside of your regular lock and no one could tell from outside or inside that it's there.
It was easy to install, the instructions were clear and there's a great video on their site too that you step by step. I have newer doors few yrs old so everythingfor nicely an easily.
But I would suggest looking at the website before purchasing to be sure it fits well though. I tried this on our vacation home before I got another one for that home but because that cylinder lock comes with a non removable shield the level bolt doesn't fit. For that door I got the Level smart lock which works perfectly too.
The app works pretty well. It's great being able to unlock or lock remotely or use the regular keys.
This is really convenient.

Giving a key without giving a key

I have never owned a smart deadbolt lock. I remember when they came around. The idea was there but I never took the dive due to having to replace a lot more than I was used to. Fast forward now and having a deadbolt that hides within the current deadbolt’s body without having to re-key was very convenient and makes it a no-brainer
Installing the lock was simple, luckily I didn’t have to change much besides the original strike plate and the fitting for the long mechanism in the lock. Conveniently I just installed a new deadbolt on every door and this one was installed on the front door. The app is simple. Intuitiveness and helpfulness for me is always a big factor in any review and the app hit these notes perfectly with a tuning fork.
I like that I can give someone a key without giving someone a key. That’s the best way to sum this up. It’s not bulky, it takes about 20 minutes to set up and get going. I don’t know why I didn’t get this years ago.

The level bolt has a sleek design. The instructions were detailed and setup was fairly simple. I intended to install it on a double door but I was unable to. The strike plate is much taller than a standard strike plate. When I tried using the Level strike plate the screws did not line up and I was unable to use it on that door. The strike plate is larger than a traditional strike place in order to accommodate the battery inside of the deadbolt mechanism. I was able to use it on a standard single door. It connects and uses Apple HomeKit and works well in that regards.
