Good monitor if all you care about is low price

I own a 4 year old LG Flatron Wide 16:10 at 1680x1050 with 2ms response. It is back-lit by the standard LCD fluorescent cold cathode tubes. This monitor is terrible by comparison. The 5ms is not too bad, but it is noticed over the 2ms. LED edge-lit screens are the crappiest idea ever. There is so much flash-lighting around the edges it ruins the blacks in the image. Not only is it hard on the eyes no matter how dim you make it, you cannot obtain true blacks on the screen because the light bleed is not only present, it is purple. The light uniformity is also terrible. These statement are not just being picky you will notice these. If you are looking for a good monitor, buy one the is NOT LED edge lit or just stick with the back-lit by fluorescent (TFT.) My current LG monitor beats all these issues except for minor light bleed (common on all LCD's), but at least the blacks are not purple like this one. Do not buy into "IPS" my older monitor has better colors and contrast. The 5,000,000:1 is a bunch are garbage. Mine is stated to be at only 3000:1 and is noticeably better. I never have written a review for any product, but I am disappointed with how cheap some products are being made these days. However you get what you pay for in most cases. So spend a little more or follow my advise and stay away from LED all together. I don't thing there is any black-lit LED monitors only edge lit.

Returned a couple of days later...

The monitor has very little features, the menu is cumbersome to navigate. The software that came with the unit was equally frustrating. As for the picture quality; text is blurry, colores bleed and no matter how hard you try, you can never get the ratio quite right to fit. Also my on-unit controls to adjust hight and width where for some reason disabled I returned it a couple of days later, invested a bit more and got a far superior monitor.
