Realize this is low end IPS panel, not a pro panel

    Posted .

I was a little skeptical at the sale price that this monitor wouldn't hold up to my expectations but I was pleasantly surprised upon using it for a few days. I want to hit on a few positives that I noticed right away. First, the menu system allows quite a few tweaks such as color temp and Gamma settings. There are also a few presets you can choose or a complete ability to customize the settings as well. I am using the DVI connection and text is very crisp and clear. Off angle viewing is very good as long as you're at eye level. If you stray above or below you can see heavy purple fringing from both sides on any type of dark background. Having said that, the off angles are very good and typical of an e-ips monitor. Colors also "pop" quite well even at low brightness and on standard def videos. I did some light gaming and did not notice any ghosting on my monitor. From reading other reviews, it seems this is hit or miss. The anti-glare coating does not seem to cause any text/graphic distortion toy eyes. For the negatives, as I mentioned above the purple fringing can be annoying and not everyone will be happy with this. The stand is very wobbly but on my solid desk, the movement is minimal. The connections face down on the back and that makes cable routing a bit annoying to me. I prefer the connections face outward although this leaves less room from the wall to the monitor so it's a personal choice for me. Overall if you realize that this is not a high end Dell or HP IPS panel you might be surprised at what you do get for the money. I will be keeping it since I got it on sale. For regular price I would step up to a Dell or HP.

    Good buy based on price

I bought this monitor to do photo work as I could not find an laptop I could afford that had a IPS screen. This is an IPS monitor, If you are a gamer this may not be the monitor for you as it is slow and the image is going to smear on fast moving images. The color is great, you really notice it when it is plug into a laptop and they are side by side, the laptop is dull and this monitor is clear. lots of color and bright. I thought the laptop was good until then. When editing photo you can move your head around and the colors do not shift that the reason to look for a IPS Monitor.

    Amazing Monitor for its Price

this is coming from someone who spends thousands on computer parts mix and match for best quality within in affordable price range, i have a i5 2500k, with 560gtx etc all that good stuff my old samsung 2333t (amazing mointer but slow 8 ms didnt matter much) died out i needed to buy a new one, i first went and bought the acer acer s232hl which was a really bad impulse buy that i regretted i tried everything possible to make the colors look aleast half decent , i bought it cuz of the cheap price and amazing 2ms but the color department on the monitor took a huge hit , i spent the last 2 nights before i returned it on alot of research i recommend you spend some time on research , in a nutshell it comes down to "NT" display which are amazing for fast gamers who play war, gunfights, dota type games , then their are "ISP"which are little slower in the ms , but make up for it with the colors, this monitor it brings all i wanted the best one for both without losing too much of either , this one was a prefect buy with a 5ms speed and amazing color this is amazing if u want to do some photo editing( photoshop, flash, gimp etc) during the night then play some hardcore games during the night ) if u are like me and had no idea which moniter to replace the old you got so used to , and are stepping into new water this one will be recommend buy for it size, led, color, fast 5ms , style , u wont regret this buy

    Excellent Gaming and Design Monitor

    Posted .

I hate when people write cons as something they would have known before they bought it. That's not a con, if you wanted a certain feature get something that has it. No reason to negate a product based on something you knew when you bought it. Moving forward, though. The picture quality is absolutely amazing. It is beautiful. I purchased 3 of these to run in a tri-monitor setup for gaming and editing. It has everything that I needed and this fell right into my budget. Most high-end graphics cards have an abundance of options for hookups, which made it easy to run these all on one card, however I did end up putting these on two cards to handle games at better FPS on 5760x1080 resolution. They run cool, they're energy star certified and they sync up very well. Amazingly I literally didn't have to adjust any features to get the same picture on all of them. As soon as I hooked them up, all three monitors had the same brightness, contrast, etc. in appearance. This makes games absolutely beautiful. The colors are so crisp and vibrant, it makes even lower end games look fantastic. I'm immensely happy with these and I think it's a solid monitor without spending several hundred more. You're really getting your bang for the buck here. At this price range, you won't be disappointed.

    Nice Monitor for the price

    Posted .

I was about to give up on this monitor after the first day. I was running it at the highest resolution of 1080 but my text was very blurry. Also the picture did not go out to the edges of the monitor. I tried to use the monitor settings to stretch the picture out but there is no such option in the menu. Finally I decided to go through my ATI 5670 video card control panel settings and I found the problem. There is a section called "My Digital Flat Panels", click on it and go to "Scaling Options". A slider bar will appear, just drag it to the right to the 0% Overscan. After doing this my text is crisp and clean and the picture goes to the edges of the monitor. Hope this helps somebody that comes across the same problem. This is a great monitor now that it is working properly.

    Good IPS monitor!

    Posted .

I purchased this monitor from the Best Buy located around the 3200 block of South Elston in Chicago (near interstate I90/95). I got a good deal as it was on sale for $200. This monitor's color, black and white, and saturation levels were excellent out of the box, but I noticed when blacks are on a purple glare coming from the bottom corners of the monitor (I tried adjusting, but realized it's something to do with the IPS technology). In addition, there is considerable light leak coming from all four corners when blacks are on, more so from the top that I notice. Other than that this monitor is good for the money. I think I would prefer a TN panel vs. IPS panel for movies and games at this price, but since I work in multimedia I need an affordable monitor that can reproduce the colors I get from my Macbook Pro. So, despite the negatives the positives outweigh enough for me to keep this monitor as the colors can not be matched when compared to a TN panel.

    better than expected

    Posted .

Overall, it's a good monitor, with sharp text and vivid image. It does have leakage as most ips monitors do, but it won't worry you unless you need to work on a black background very often. But I must say the stand is the poorest I've ever seen. If your desk is solid, that's not a problem, though. Otherwise, a solution is to fix the panel or buy another stand to replace this poor one. Anyway, since I find the solution to the poor stand, I'll keep it. A recommendation is to choose other ips series monitors of LG with steady stand like IPS236v or IPS231P if you are afraid of the stand problems. Those monitor most likely have the same panels.

    All around beautiful monitor

    Posted .

A few years back I bought a prior model of pretty much this same LG - except 22" - for my son going to college. We'd put together a high-end gaming system for him and it looked great then, performed beautifully...and still does. This is the updated model and I am every bit as impressed and suspect that will be the case for years to come. The image quality is superb, native contrast the same, sharpness ditto. Haven't seen any flicker or pixelation no matter what I've been doing. Of course it helps to have a *decent* graphics card to truly show what it can do. There are of course better monitors...but for this price that isn't the case!

    INCREDIBLE

    Posted .

All I can say is WOW. LG has never let me down in the past, so when my previously owned L227WTG started to go, I immediately looked to LG for a new monitor. I saw this and knew I had to get it because the price was wonderful for my range. However when I opened it out of the box I was amazed. It was so much slimmer than I had expected and the didn't have the black-lacquer glossy finish that leaves a million finger prints...However when I hooked it up to my laptop just through the VGA I was absolutely in awe. The color and picture quality was amazing the second I hooked it up, and this is through just VGA, so i can't wait to see how it looks through DVI or even HDMI hook up. The only thing I didn't care too much for was that I wish the resolution could be higher, however I can't complain. The packaging was nice and secure, and the monitor self-adjusted itself to the picture setting instantly upon hookup and was self-adjusted and set withing 3 seconds. The only down side was that the power cable is about 3 FT long and the previous power cable I had was about 4-5 FT long. But still long enough to connect. All in all, I couldn't be happier.

    Excellent monitor!

Just picked up one of these today from my local Best Buy. Haven't got an HDMI cable yet (not included), but even on the analog cable the colors and image quality are extraordinary. Both netflix and dvd playback looks stunning, if I had a blue ray player that would probably be fab too :) The viewing angle is VERY wide! Google around and you'll find some excellent tests/reviews of the whole family of LG IPS monitors. The only weak point is the stand, which is a bit unstable, but it's got a vesa mount, so I'm going to get a proper pivot/rotate stand anyway. Definitely a best buy from Best Buy!

Excellent monitors. Great image & video display.

    Posted .

I bought two of these 23" monitors when I upgraded my wife computer. The image and video quality is excellent. They are LED so they use very little energy and do not put off any heat. They have a dual mode that gives her a 46" viewing area. Being able to have multiple projects going at the same time not cluttering up one monitor. Great product and price. I got them on sale for $189 ea. I got these along with the HP Envy PC Tower, HP 7520 Photosmart Printer and the Ergotron dual side-by-side arm mount. Saved a bunch of money on this complete setup.

Good monitor if all you care about is low price

    Posted .

I own a 4 year old LG Flatron Wide 16:10 at 1680x1050 with 2ms response. It is back-lit by the standard LCD fluorescent cold cathode tubes. This monitor is terrible by comparison. The 5ms is not too bad, but it is noticed over the 2ms. LED edge-lit screens are the crappiest idea ever. There is so much flash-lighting around the edges it ruins the blacks in the image. Not only is it hard on the eyes no matter how dim you make it, you cannot obtain true blacks on the screen because the light bleed is not only present, it is purple. The light uniformity is also terrible. These statement are not just being picky you will notice these. If you are looking for a good monitor, buy one the is NOT LED edge lit or just stick with the back-lit by fluorescent (TFT.) My current LG monitor beats all these issues except for minor light bleed (common on all LCD's), but at least the blacks are not purple like this one. Do not buy into "IPS" my older monitor has better colors and contrast. The 5,000,000:1 is a bunch are garbage. Mine is stated to be at only 3000:1 and is noticeably better. I never have written a review for any product, but I am disappointed with how cheap some products are being made these days. However you get what you pay for in most cases. So spend a little more or follow my advise and stay away from LED all together. I don't thing there is any black-lit LED monitors only edge lit.
