Love this fridge so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I almost did not purchase this refrigerator because of some of the reviews, however I took a chance. We love it. It is quiet, we love having that door so that the kids are not opening the fridge all day long to get a juice bottle. The fridge is large and bright. The ice maker is a bit small but we are managing. The only negative I have is that the extra door does not always close properly. Great fridge all around.

Great Refrigerator/Freezer.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We really like our recently purchased LG Side by Side. The motor runs very quietly, as well as the ice maker doesn't make a lot of noise either. There's lots of space inside both the refrigerator & freezer. One item that could be improved upon is the shelf adjustment options. Our previous model had lots of choices, where as there's quite limited ones with this LG model. The selling material lists it as having shelving options, but there really are only 4 shelves with a high/low option on each of about 2 inches. We needed to completely remove one shelf so we could have enough space to place a half gallon size juice pitcher on a shelf.

Like it but don't love it...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have really wanted to love this fridge, but there are many things about it that have annoyed me. First off, we decided on a side-by-side because 1) we wanted an ice/water machine, and French door fridges tend to be severely limited in fridge space if it comes with an ice/water machine (we need more fridge space than freezer space since we have a deep freezer); and 2) we had a side-by-side before and were surprised at how pleased we were with it. But...the little annoying things about this one in particular: 1) The door in door feature is designed to be convenient and functional, but it does take away the deli drawer, which I do miss a lot! 2) We're Asians and store various sauces in the fridge (i.e. fish sauce; seasoning sauce, etc...), and unfortunately, as one other customer noted, unless you completely remove a shelf, there is no way to store those standing up. The same can be said for wine bottles. The only solution is to place it in the gallon shelf located in the outside door, but that will take away the space for milk/juice and other drinks one might want handily placed in that location - or you lay it on its side. 3) As others have noted, the door-in-door latch does not shut unless you apply some pressure. That's annoying. So...as I said before, I've wanted to love it but I don't. The Best Buy associate at the store steered us away from the Samsung (slightly more expensive) side-by-side showcase fridge claiming that LG has stood the test of time and produces better appliances (particularly given Samsung's recent issues with their phones and washers). But now...I wonder what what could have been had we gone with the slightly more expensive, slightly larger Samsung...

Great until compressor died after only 4 years?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in love with the refrigerator when I first saw it! Having the door-in-door was wonderful for getting quick items, like butter and drinks. Sadly, after 4 years, the compressor gave out. We lost EVERYTHING in our freezer and refrigerator! Even though the compressor part was still covered under warranty (I had to fight with LG to get the proper authorization code for replacement), we STILL had to pay over $500 for the labor costs. We also had to go with the "recommended" list of LQ-authorized repair locations and waited over a week before the repairs could finally take place. Using a small dorm refrigerator for our entire family was not pleasant! We were grateful that everything was taken care of just before Thanksgiving - although losing all the food prepared for the holiday was a real disappointment.

It was amazing and perfect for every need!!! :)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This refrigerator was amazing. It has amazing storage and is perfect for every need. I was looking for a refrigerator when ours recently broke, and i really thought this was an amazing refrigerate when i saw it. It was!!!!!!! This fridge met every expectation and need. I recommend it to everybody..... although it doesn't have much space fro ice, so if you use a lot of ice that may be a problem, but i think that it was amazing overall.

So many flaws. So many terrible engineering choices
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product has given my family nothing but frustration since we got it, and now, after less than a year and a half, it decided it didn't want to cool the air down before blowing it over our food, spoiling a couple hundred dollars worth in hours. (Literally quicker than if the power went out and it was just a large cooler at that point.) First off, we never got to use the water/ice dispenser. Don't know if that is the refrigerator's fault or Best Buy's dumb policy of forcing you to use THEIR cheap overpriced hose if they install, but no amount of flushing ever got the metallic taste out. At least 50 gallons run through before we gave up. Second, the shelf configurating is laughably lacking. Yes, people are trying to be more healthy these days, but people still do drink soda, and often in 2 liter bottles. So to have NO shelf be tall enough to fit one is crazy. And one of the main spots for the tallest configuration is on top, where the water filter (useless for ours since we can't use the water dispenser) hangs down over a quarter of the space so you can't even fit a gallon of milk. Sure, you could remove a shelf entirely and make one tall enough, but that is not a good solution. Nor is putting it in the door. As surely LG knows, different parts of the refrigerator have different cooling zones. The door is generally for things that don't need to be as cold. As confirmed by two different thermometers that the door is a significant number of degrees higher than the inside...perfect for condiments, but not a cold soda. Or milk. Especially not milk. Can't tell you how many times I had milk go bad several days before the expiration before I realized it wasn't the store's fault, but the refrigerator's. I also suspect there is not enough airflow due to the solid (but flimsy) shelves that have no open space, and no real gaps in the back like many glass shelving refrigerators have. And quite frankly, for an extra large unit, it sure felt smaller than any other refrigerator I have ever owned. Perhaps because the drawers are needlessly huge. Or for the useless gimmick of the door in door. Energy Saver? Yeah, because I am ALWAYS going into my refrigerator for condiments (which is pretty much all that door is good for, either because of the size, or the aforementioned higher temperature. That must save me 1 or two door openings a week! Over the course of a year, that may equate to 3 cents savings! Oh, and did I mention how the main doors close VERY hard. Like slam. (And the handles are poorly designed as well, to the point where you can catch your fingers.) But this gimmick door doesn't close on its own. And yet which door did LG see fit to NOT include in the alarm system to let you know if a door isn't closed? You guess it. The only one that could POSSIBLY be left open by accident. Literally NO good reason for that. Adding one more sensor would have added less than $5 to the already higher than fair price of this refrigerator. But those design flaws were just nuisance. What is worse is that it is disturbing to see how many reviews talk about their units conking out of them within 2 years. That is not a nuisance. That is the kind of thing that should demand a recall. People shouldn't be losing hundreds of dollars of food due to LG's engineering errors. Just like we shouldn't be paying extra for a water dispenser only to not be able to use it due to a metallic taste despite flushing more than 10 times the amount of water through it than suggested.

You'll have ice....for 3 years.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I understand value. I also understand you get what you pay for. I don't know the average lifespan of a modern refrigerator in 2022, but this one lasted me 3 years before the ice maker started to conk out. My warranty went through April of 2022, the ice maker stopped in May 2022. That's the way she goes, right? For those 3 years, the machine served my family well. It wasn't bad at all once I got past the broken front door button that broke off 3 months after I bought it. Not until the ice maker, that is. Pretty bulky, but obviously spacious. Ended up making an appointment w/ Geek Squad to come check it out. The guy looked at it, asked me what was wrong exactly, then looked at me...with that disappointing look that your spouse gives you when you're caught in the fridge in the middle of the night. He said that they'd have to order me a ice machine, which would mean I have to buy a new door. Would've cost me over $1k when all is said and done. That's more than half the price I paid for it. He told me that LG and Samsung brands often break down this quick. LG especially. The 3 star rating is for the amount of years I got out of a $2k refrigerator. Well...the ice maker, anyway. Now, she'll sit in the garage...making sure all of our canned and bottled beverages stay cold and our desserts and bulk meats stay frozen. I would only recommend a machine if I knew it would last. This one capped at 3 years. I'd spend the money and get a better quality instead of focusing on value. I'm going to be doing that...on a GE or Whirlpool.

side by side, door in door is the way to go
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.aside from the ice maker not working after about 18 months, I love the fridge. I had a 29cu ft French door fridge (freezer at the bottom) that I was replacing. Not only did this have more room than the 29 cu ft, everything in this is easier to access. The shelves on the outer door of the door-in-door makes so much sense - not sure why more refrigerators don't have that. New ones don't have the outer door-in-door shelves. The reason I am not giving this a 4* for the ice-maker, my other refrigerators had multiple ice makers each and they broke down within a year.

Has bee good, but has had a few issues.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The refrigerator has been running for 6 years now. LG had to replace the compressor and the ice maker water inlet tube frequently freezes up. I have to take the ice make out and defrost the inlet tube with a hair dryer.

Beware of Compressor Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my unit 5/16/17. Unit was manufactured 11/2016. We love the space, look and functionality of the fridge. The problem is after only 6 years, the compressor went out. The repairman (and Best Buy and LG) all acknowledge the in-line compressors LG uses has had major problems. So much so, LG extended the 5 year compressor warranty to 10 years. Might sound good at first but the cost to replace the compressor, dryer and condenser after 6 years and 1 month on a $1,900 fridge is $1,700. LG will cover the compressor only (no labor) which reduces the repair down to $1,100, still over 50% of what was paid. Two different repair shops said they have had a ton of business fixing the compressors. The inconvenience, food loss and money spent diagnosing... we are looking at buying a different brand rather than sinking an additional $1,100 into this fridge. I'll stick with their TVs... fridge, I don't recommend.
