Sound quality is a 7/10 on the audiophile scale. It does quite well for what it is, but in certain frequency ranges you can definitely tell that the drivers in the sound bar are sized and shaped for packaging, not 100% perfect audio quality. It's not going to give you the same fidelity and depth of field as a nice set of three-driver speakers and larger subwoofer, but that's not what it is built to compete against. The subwoofer fills in the "meat" of the sound pretty well and has good punch. It's a sold, easy-to-set-up system. The wireless subwoofer does occasionally lose connection, but it comes back in less than 15 seconds. Only real complaint is every once in a while it refuses to automatically connect to the LG TV we have and I have to power-cycle the whole entertainment system at the surge protector to get everybody working together again.

This is my second sound bar and I have to say it really is incredible. I can hear voices much better than the TV speakers and this LG system really rocks. I use it with my phone too, and it fills a large room with incredible sound and bass. I was able to purchase this on sale for $280 but I would say it is easily worth 500. Don’t pass up an opportunity to buy this amazing sound bar. The only semi-negative thing and I’m not 100% sure if it is the soundboard bar or my phone is that the Bluetooth range is not really far I would say I need to keep my phone within 40 feet or so of the device or it will randomly disconnect.

Returned it cuz it was too big and too loud (crazy I know) for the small space I was in. Went with the Sonos Beam Gen 2 instead.
This LG bar is really good. For not having back speakers the Dolby Atmos is also quite impressive. It is loud!

I recently had an old Sony soundbar from 2008 that died. Thought it still sounded great with a great sub so I was sad when it died. Did some research and settled on the SP8YA. Didn't want to completely break the bank and wanted one that could do Atmos. Boy what an upgrade. Crystal clear sound and a good solid sub. Much clearer than my old soundbar. Lots of great features and I really enjoy the app which I have no issues with. Very easy to setup. I usually leave it at the standard setting, unless it's a movie which then I switch to cinema (if it's not Atmos). Didn't find the AI setting helpful or done well.
I originally though some of the dialog sounded distorted. This was an issue with my TV. I had to change a sound setting on that to provide better audio. Not the soundbar's fault and it cleared up that distortion.

Not really an audiophile but I like to explore tech I can afford. This was on sale for 400 and sounds awesome. A little tinny at first, but after a few seconds it clears up and sounds great for movies, shows, games, and music. Was sold on atmos but need the rear speakers sold separately to really push it. Love having an app I can control the soundbar with, I’m prone to losing the remote but it’s a bigger remote than previous soundbars. I have my series X going through it for pass through and it worked great for a few weeks, then when I use my switch on the tv it won’t work unless I do Bluetooth for it. All in all it’s great.

I was not a believer in Atmos sound until I heard this system in the store display. I had not planned to spend that much, but a sale price helped me decide. This sound system is comparable with my much more expensive sound system from 20 years ago. (Surround sound with 10 inch subwoofer) I am an electronics design engineer and have had an interest in audio all my life. I had to leave my big expensive behind when I moved, and this fills the bill.

Purchased this sound bar for a great deal with the price match. Replaced an older LG sound bar that sounded pretty good. Set up was simple and hooked up to my LG television via hdmi. The subwoofer and rear speakers hooked up as soon as I powered on the sound bar. Set the sound bar on e-arc and made the adjustments on the app which also hooked up immediately. Now we have 2 story ceilings in our family room so we don’t get the overhead benefits of Dolby atmos but this still sounds huge. Watched a couple marvel movies coded in atmos and it felt like we were in a theater. Regular tv sounds great too. Way better than the tv speakers. Did my research before I got this and the positive reviews are correct.

I’ve had a ton of sound bar issues, this is I think my sixth or seventh soundbar I bought in the last month. And I’m glad I at least ended up with this one. I got an incredible open box deal on this sound bar and I’m so happy I did. The sound is excellent and feels wide an immersive for 3.1.2, it’s great to have Atmos even if it isn’t top end, and the subwoofer is powerful and really helps on action movies and shows. The app is Easy to use and it’s nice to have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and connectivity like Spotify play etc. Unlike the other sandbars I’ve bought, I haven’t had connection issues with this. It’s pretty cool how it uses AI to analyze your room for optimal sound. Build quality is good. I really recommend this especially on the sale price

Get fired up about up firing speakers

The middle channel is crispy! Big fan of the up-firing speakers, as the sound does resonate well, but I still feel the need for the back channel speakers that can be purchased separately (I am not in a rush and will wait till they are on sale). The only reason I did not get the 5.1.2 (other than the price) was the size -- the TV stand I have fits the 3.1.2 perfectly. Most importantly, yes the input display does not dim / turn off, but that does not bother me. However, using it with LG sync on newer TVs with just an optical cable is extremely convenient.

It’s loud and clear. Music sounds great on it. Turn up the bass to max on the settings though. That’s how I like it. Pairs best with an LG TV

We love the sound bar. It is paired with LG OLED tv and both speech and music are excellent. The bass pushed by the sub-woofer is very nice/solid. It was very easy to set up with the TV.

This is a pretty big soundbar that goes well with my 48" TV. The quality is good and the wall bracket wasn't hard to install, although I do wonder what I'll do when I move since they only give you one of the measuring paper that you need to tear apart after you mount it.
Setting it up was a bit finicky at first, and I do wish my LG TV smart TV was smart enough to automatically introduce the soundbar into the family. I feel Samsung users have an easier time with their products communicating to each other.
The sound test and setup - HUGE WARNING HERE! It is loud af. I don't even know what it really does, not like there are settings in the app to set the rough size of your room and the placement of your soundbar and equipment. Also when it came to the bass, I think it ruptured an eardrum, like was ridiculous how it shook my room and hurt my ear for a few days after. The subwoofer is HUGE too, way too big compared to the soundbar. Like this is a TV, I want great sound for movies, TV shows, and games. I want clear dialogue and crystal clear audio and details. I don't need it for a house party.
It was a bit loud during use so I turned down the subwoofer all the way it allowed me to (-15dB), which I don't know if it's enough. There's no knob or button to set it directly btw, you need the app. Also it seems weird there's a separate app for the soundbar instead of integrating it into the LG TV/channel app. And of course there's LG ThinQ for home appliances. I don't want an app for every single individual smart item in my home and this isn't how you build a garden, like come on.
Anyway some minor complaints. I'm glad I didn't have the deal with LG support for anything for this item, because LG support and promotion team has a terrible reputation for customer service.

Writing this review a couple of years after this item came out but this is probably the best sound I've ever heard for a home audio setup. I paired these with the satellite speakers in the back and the wireless subwoofer. It's an immersive experience no matter what movie you're watching and it will handle Dolby Atmos from your television or your PC if your PC will output it. I would highly recommend this sound system!

The sound bar system sounds incredible. Compared to other offerings it has crystal clear voice and literally ground shaking bass if you want it. The only problem is the remote being quite cheap. I ended up having to return another JBL sound bar with the same remote that was having problems. You would think buying one of the higher versions they would have included a higher quality remote. Four stars excellent sound, come on JBL upgrade the remote to something reliable and a little more quality.
