Customers are positive about the sound quality, easy setup, and price of the 3.1-Channel 420W Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and DTS Virtual:X. They appreciate the excellent sound quality, simple setup, and reasonable price. However, customers are negative about the subwoofer, connectivity, durability, remote control, and warranty. They have experienced issues with the subwoofer cutting out, connectivity issues, the soundbar not lasting long, and problems with the remote control. Nice sounding soundbar

As a 3.1 channel soundbar, this sounds really good. I have it hooked up to the 65" TV in the bedroom and the sound is so much better than it was when we were just using the built-in TV speakers. Eventually we plan to buy the satellite speakers for it so that we can enjoy 5.1 surround in the room instead, maybe for Christmas it'll happen :) Currently I have the TV hooked up to the soundbar via optical cable, which is working perfectly. However, when I get around to mounting the TV to the wall, I plan to change the connection to a wireless/Bluetooth connection in order to eliminate the excess cables that would be visible going from the TV to the stand. Optical wise, setup was a breeze. just plugged it in and selected the optical as the source and then selected the optical as the output on the TV and that was it. Great sounding audio from the soundbar soon followed after that. :) This soundbar was definitely a welcome addition to the TV and the room.

This is the First LG soundbar I have purchased to pair up with my LG 86" TV and so far it has been a good experience. When connected to the tv via bluetooth I can just use the TV remote to control the volume for both the TV and the soundbar and they pair quite well. Prior to this purchase I had bought two Samsung HW-T550 soundbars and when comparing the two I have noticed a few differences. This LG costs about $100 more when not on sale but is 100 extra watts. With that said the Samsung seemed to have a better overall sound experience where the bass is better controlled at low volumes. and the remote for the Samsung is much better. The LG however did not have the issue of lag between tv sound and soundbar sound. That was not something I could correct with optional adjustments on the Samsung so on the Samsung soundbar I basically had to choose to either use optical audio or use tv audio but not both. I do like this soundbar and I would recommend it. I think I am just spoiled historically having an actual receiver with multiple speakers so I hope for a much more robust sound experience with a soundbar / subwoofer combo. This system does the trick for the most part but will not blow you away by any means.

Anyone suggesting it is not loud enough is looking into hearing aids in the near future. Unless you have are trying to provide sound to an 800 sf room this soundbar is plenty loud. Besides the great sound quality what I enjoyed most about this soundbar was the ease of setting it up. It is as simple as connecting 2 power plugs, one for the bar one for the woofer and connecting your soundbar to the television then placing batteries in the provided remote and hitting power. The sub is automatically connected to the soundbar, it literally took 10 minutes to remove it from the box and connect everything. Removing it from the box was the hardest part. Ingenious box design as well. I used the optical connection provided but if you have available hdmi ports on your tv that is the way I’d go. Also the soundbar automatically connected to my TVs remote. Just make sure you go into your TVs settings and turn the TVs speakers off, unless you have a tv with exceptional sound quality as you may want to combine the soundbar to them. I just watched avengers endgame and there was incredible base throughout the entire movie. Tomorrow I’ll turn on my on demand Mexican music I recently started listening to, to really test the speakers out.

    A Year Review

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

While some aspects of the SN6Y soundbar with wireless subwoofer are nice, such as being able to directly connect Bluetooth devices for music, there are many problems that lead me to not recommend this product. The goods: The sub connected easily with no fuss to begin with. The bass from the sub sounds clean and not as muddled, probably has a good low pass filter setting from factory. Simple EQ settings for woofer, center, rear, treble and bass for the non-audiophile. The bad, get ready for it: The first major problem was apparent even a year ago when I purchased the setup, this being that while the sub sounds nice, it disconnects ALOT. I found that any time I was browsing the bestbuy app on my phone and tried to load a product page, the sub would kick out. Odd, isn’t it? It might be due to where my WIFI router and sub are placed compared to where I sit, but it was funny that it did it so much with the BestBuy app specifically, though it did happen a couple of times with Amazon. These are just the times I was able to specifically identify why it cut out, other times it would cut out for no reason which is very jarring since the soundbar itself produces practically no bass. It’s like going to a concert and hearing the full range of the drummers beat, but then suddenly only hearing the cymbals and the higher pitch of the snare. It’s very immersion breaking while watching a film like 1917 that has lots of explosions. The other major problem is that while the soundbar itself focuses on the higher frequencies such as treble and maybe a little bit of the mid range, the audio quality for it isn’t that great. A lot of it sounds muddled together to where it makes talking sequences with background sounds a bit difficult to understand so I found myself using subtitles more. Sure, I could turn the volume up to hear it, but with the inconsistency of sound levels throughout the range, I found that some moments I’d hardly understand what was being said while other moments I felt like I was being blasted out of my chair. If I had to guess, it sounds like the EQ is a U shaped curve with the bass being high, mids being low, and treble being high again. All of this was still after adjusting the woofer to be lowered almost to its maximum and the mids brought up about the same. But even if you can handle the odd sound and just want a little something that’s better than the factory tv speakers, I still can’t recommend this due to the simple fact of the subwoofers longevity. A lot of people online have had disconnect issues, but another one of the problems they have run into is the sub no longer working. Unfortunately, I’m one of those people as well. Disconnecting the power to the sub and soundbar doesn’t fix it, the sub still thinks it’s paired but produces no sound anymore. There’s no way to even try to pair the sub again as the ‘pair’ button on the back of the sub does nothing, it’s supposed to start blinking after holding it for over 5 seconds yet it doesn’t do anything. The soundbar factory reset doesn’t function as intended either with all settings being persistent, which normally would be fine if it wasn’t for these issues. Unfortunately, there’s not even an optical port or any way to connect the sub through a hardwire connection if you wanted to be certain that you wouldn’t have disconnects or potential sub failure due to the wireless pairing devices. While the product has some aspects that people might find appealing: the wireless sub that you can place anywhere in the room, the semi-reasonable cost, e-arc for connecting to your tv and controlling the soundbars volume with your factory tv remote. I can’t recommend anyone purchase this unless you feel like blowing money on a temporary setup that may fail within a year. And if you do feel like spending that, then BUY THE GSP just in case. I, unfortunately, did not opt for this because throughout my career I haven’t run into that many home theater audio setups that have upright failed after a year, but LG managed to do this. It’s possible that you may have better luck than me, but just search Google for “SN6Y Sub” and you’ll see that others have had the same problem as me even a year ago when I purchased it. My recommendation is to buy the GSP if you have to purchase this product, but if you can spend a bit more on anything else that has e-arc (for those of you with supporting tv’s) and a wired sub vs the wireless of this model, then that’s the route you should go. Overall: Even though it’s far from an audiophiles desired quality, it has better quality sound than the tv’s factory speakers, but only when the sub is working. And due to the inconsistency and upright failure of the main component that makes it sound better than a factory tv, it’s more cost effective to stick with your tv’s factory speakers while saving up for a better sound setup.

Wireless Subwoofers are a bad idea

Bought this in 2021 and at first, the sound was excellent. I had an older LG sound bar and this one blew it away. Now, 3 years later, the subwoofer is constantly dropping out and making an awful chattering sound. I've read multiple articles talking about moving the subwoofer away from any wireless router, etc. That does not resolve the issue. Normally I am a big fan of LG products but with this sound bar acting up, I'm questioning if I ever will buy another LG product.

    Okay soundbar, horrible subwoofer

    Posted .

The only reason I give it 2 stars is because it lasted 2 years, still not exactly acceptable but it is what it is. The main bar itself works fine, but the subwoofer is terrible. It suddenly starts cutting out, sometimes once every 5 minutes, sometimes every couple seconds. I've checked for signal interference, moved the soundbar and router around, and still nothing. Sometimes I have to unplug and plug it back in multiple times to get anywhere between the rest of the day or not working at all. Wireless subwoofers were an absolutely terrible idea and unless you're looking to shell out a lot of money it's only wireless available.

    Superior Sound & Best Value

I bought this 3.1 to replace a smaller Samsung 2.1 system (which also sounded good). I moved into an open floor plan and had purchased a larger 65" TV (Sony 850 XG) so I wanted more power, less distortion, and better voice quality for narration/dialogue. This LG SN6Y does all that well, and buying during the holidays I couldn't find a better product for the price. The interface works well with the TV's remote. I love playing music over this system either wireless streaming or CD; it is rich pleasing sound. However, I am not using this for theater surround sound and there are better products for that at higher cost.

Subwoofer failed. Was truly impressed when bought when it was a new model in 2020. Never bothered to write a negative review because we wanted to see if there would be a resolution from either Best Buy or the manufacturer. Subwoofer failed but the sound bar works to this day. The experience is supposed to be thunderous with a subwoofer when watching movies. Truly failed subwoofer product that LG and Best Buy will not rectify since the moment it failed a few months after purchase back in 2021. We have been loyal Best Buy customers, but definitely have to think about our ongoing loyalty

I purchased this a couple of weeks after I upgraded my tv to the LG 75” tv. I don’t have it located where I want it because the optical cable is too short, but it’s connected and working great. Sound quality is great after I adjusted it. I have a SONY surround sound system and it doesn’t sound as good as the LG sound bar with sub woofer. My hearing has diminished quite a bit and I’ve lost most frequencies between 4K-6K and this helps me out.

I'm really happy with my sound bar purchase. The first thing I did after hooking it up was put on Jurassic Park and go to the dinosaur reveal scene. I pumped up the bass and wow, the included subwoofer literally shook my house. I have since played that scene a couple more times for other family members to show them the quality of the sound and bass. I do wish the sound bar had a few more preset options. Maybe a gaming mode would be nice since I play a lot of video games. Either way, I'm super pleased with my purchase and it fills the room with sound. A sound bar is really a must have with today's TVs. Slimmer TVs mounted on a wall really need this kind of device to produce quality sound.

Sounded great in the show room, but at home I'm troubleshooting WiFi/Bluetooth interference. The SN6Y interferes with my Xfinity Xi6-A set top box (video choppy/freezing or distorted audio), and FaceTime on an iPhone too. LG says to "... keep the soundbar > 1m away from the device", hard to do in my case. Still working on a solution. Here is the setup...
