Great Sounding 3.1 Channel Sound Bar

The LG - 3.1-Channel Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and DTS Virtual X - Black Soundbar (SL6Y) is a versatile and great sounding soundbar. With an impressive feature set that includes DTS Virtual X, and High-Resolution Audio (24Bit/96KHz). This review will be done in 3 parts – features, usage impressions, and pros/cons: Features: The features of this soundbar are excellent. It is a 3.1 channel soundbar with a wireless subwoofer that is suitable for a soundbar sub-woofer in standard mode the bass is a little light. Bass Blast (the default setting) or DTS Virtual X have good sounding bass. This soundbar has an array of connection types including HDMI (ARC), Optical (optical cable included), HDMI, USB, and AUX (3.5mm), and Bluetooth inputs. The sound bar comes with the needed power inputs and mounting hardware to be able to mount it to a wall if desired and includes a nice template that can be used to aid in the mounting process. The HDMI input can be used to connect another HDMI device to the system. Usage Impressions: The soundbar is a great addition to one’s setup should one need a soundbar. I tested the soundbar using multiple tracks that are recommended for testing audio systems. These tracks test audio systems across the sound spectrum from deep bass to soaring highs. The tracks also test spatial separation of sounds and the dynamic ranges of the system. The sounds were generally excellent on the Bass Blast and DTS Virtual X sound effect settings. For my preferences, Standard mode is severely lacking in bass. The sound effects available are as follows: ASC (Adaptive Sound Control) - Analyzes the property of the input sound and provides the sound optimized for the content in real time. BASS BLAST or BASS BLAST+ - Reinforces the bass and powerful sound. STANDARD - You can enjoy optimized sound. DTS VIRTUAL X - You can enjoy more immersive and cinematic surround sound Bluetooth and USB connectivity testing were accomplished with relative ease and the sound remained excellent in all modes other than standard. The DTS Virtual X sound is rich and helps to add to the immersion that adds to one’s enjoyment while watching movies and having this sound mode enabled. It's not quite up to par with a full surround sound system but it is better than not having anything. It should be noted that there is an available rear speaker unit that can be added to this system for an additional cost to add to this until sound capabilities. Speaking of price this unit retails for $349 and while that may seem to be a little pricey; it is one of the best priced 3.1 soundbars that Best Buy has to offer. Overall this is another great product. Please watch my Video Review here that include demonstrations of this unit's sound: https://youtu.be/fneD4jADGl0 Pros: Audio quality, connection options, and inputs, performance in modes other than standard. Cons: Standard mode sound is lacking in Bass.

Okay so I will be comparing this soundbar to my JBL, which cost a bit more than this one. The setup was nonexistent, no pairing needed, just simply plug them in and they pair right up, sweet! There are several sound settings you can choose from, I prefer the base blast, especially for listening to music, but also for watching movies. I used the optical connection method, because honestly I didn't have a spare HDMI cord and didn't feel like buying one. Especially when optical works just fine, I use it on my JBL as well. Now to the comparison... the JBL was definitely more costly, and there might be a slight sound difference between the two, but honestly this LG is such a good deal. Its over a hundred cheaper, and the sound is amazing! I also love the sleek design of the soundbar itself, as well as the display on it. Now I can tell what setting its on along with the volume, which is nice since my other soundbar doesn't have that. *Public service announcement: Don't buy this if you live in an apartment because your neighbors will hate you lol*

Bought this open box and it was trash. Sound would go up and down and couldnt stay level. The lows were so strong you couldnt hear people talk. took it straight back to the store for a refund. open box evaluation must have just been cosmetic becuase the performance wasnt there

We hate to hear that. The SL6Y has 420W RMS power (80W x 2 front and 40W center; 220W subwoofer) which provides quality sound for your favorite movies, shows, games and music. You can enjoy more immersive and cinematic surround sound with DTS Virtual: X. The soundbar automatically adjusts the sound level to create an ideal audio experience. Its sleek design

At the beginning of the shut down, I purchased a sound bar and a 43" Samsung 2020 TV. I wondered why the sound bar came with no TV. I looked at the website that said I had cancelled the order. I have proof that I purchased the TV. I have tried unsuccessfully to reach anyone.

This soundbar and accompanying sub sounds really good and provide clarity and bass that my old soundbar didn't or couldn't offer. To start off the soundbar has some weight to it and a quality feel. I wall mounted it below my mounted TV because I have a little one who loves to pull things off of tables. The enclosed wall mount seems pretty stable and substantial compared to my previous soundbar. It has two L shaped brackets that mount to the wall and then screw into the bottom of the soundbar. Since I was mounting it by myself, the enclosed paper that indicates spacing from TV and spacing for brackets was helpful. Even though It took quite a while for me to center it, this made leveling it super easy. Connections for the soundbar are your usual suspects in optical digital and HDMI ARC. I connected with the included optical cable (There is no HDMI cable included) You can also stream bluetooth and use a USB for this soundbar. The remote controls both the soundbar and subwoofer, including the center speaker (it has one built in) and the optional rear speakers. My preferred setting for this soundbar is the DTS Virtual X. The quality is crystal clear and the subwoofer enhances the entire experience. I tried some of the other settings but they just seemed too empty to me. The only issue I had with this system is that my past setup had the subwoofer set up under an endtable that is located about 4 feet to the right of the TV. Never had a connection issue ever with my previous soundbar. While trying out the SL6Y I noticed the sub kept cutting out. I did the typical unplug/plug back in and reconnected the sub but still had issues with the sub dropping out. The sub provides a lot of depth in this system so when it drops out, you really notice it. I contacted LG about the issue and the suggestion was to power off/on the soundbar which I had done and move it to a different location, which I didn't want to do but did anyway. After moving the sub, I haven't heard it cut out yet. I moved it to the left of the TV this time and in the corner of the room, which to my surprise made the sub even louder and provided more depth. My wife now thinks its waaaay too much bass but I think it sounds great. The only thing I can think of is that there is a printer that would have been another 3 feet away from the previous setup that might have caused interference? Seems kind of silly and as I said, never happened with my previous setup but moving did seem to work. It's been several days since moving it and all seems fine but I'll still be listening to make sure that's what the problem is. Overall the system sounds deep in bass and crisp in highs. Just what i'm looking for in an affordable sound bar. I don't like the fact that I had to move it to prevent interference, but it seems to have worked. If you're not looking to break the bank on a soundbar but want to step it up from 2.1 with the option of adding rear speakers in the future, check out this system in DTS Virtual X mode at Best Buy and see if its right for you. I'm a fan.

I called both Best Buy and LG and neither organization is willing to fix the problem of not having power cords for the sound bar and the base speaker. Basically, I waited too long to unpack so I have useless equipment.

The LG 3.1-channel high-resolution audio soundbar comes with imbedded DTS technology. It offers connections ports to compatible TV’s and other equipment, like an audio optical port, HDMI, USB and Bluetooth connectivity. The soundbar itself is very light weight and I found to be easy to move around when needed. The subwoofer itself is also compact and very portable. Setting the soundbar and subwoofer up to work with my Samsung TV was easy as pie. I connected an optical cable from my Samsung to the optical port on the soundbar, plugged the power into the soundbar and power outlet, made sure I had the subwoofer plugged in and waiting to pair (flashing LED on the back of the subwoofer shows that it’s in pairing mode), and that was pretty much it. Oh yeah, I did have to ensure that my Samsung TV was configured for an optical cable for sound to be directed to the soundbar and subwoofer. LG does provide an audio optical cable in case you need one. No HDMI cables are provided. The subwoofer communicates wirelessly to the soundbar, so no cables are needed to connect the two. The subwoofer does require power, so you’ll need a nearby wall outlet for it and the soundbar. The soundbar has 2 front speakers (80watts), a center speaker (40watts), and the previously mentioned subwoofer (220watts). This configuration supports DTS Virtual X, can play Bluetooth music streaming, and automatically adjusts the sound level to enhance the audio experience. The LG has a remote included, and most (if not all) changes/actions can be handled using the remote. For example, I was able to increase/decrease treble and bass using the remote solely. The outputted sound is very good. I used it for watching action movies, YouTube videos and the like. All sounded especially clear and without any distortion even as I increased the volume much higher than typical. I had our cats running for cover, which I found mildly amusing. The SL6Y Soundbar and Subwoofer is a well thought out and solidly engineered solution. It sounds great, is easy as pie to install, and very much meets my needs.
