Great for movies!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar is a big improvement over the built-in speakers of our tv. Dialog is nice and clear, and I don’t have to blast the volume to hear what’s being said. If you’re still using built-in speakers when watching movies, switching to this soundbar will take your movie watching to a whole new level. The wireless sub (which can be anywhere in the room) definitely adds some punch. I may even have to spring for the wireless surround speakers, which are available separately. You can also connect devices to it using bluetooth. The pairing process is very simple, and the speaker turns on automatically when you connect a paired device & start playing music. And the sound quality is very nice as well. Be careful if you intend to install this in to any kind of entertainment center, as it’s about 3 and a half feet wide. May not fit in to smaller cabinets. As it is, it does hang over the sides of ours. That said, if your tv is wall-mounted, this speaker does come with brackets that can be used to mount it to the wall as well. If your tv has ARC enabled HDMI connection, that’s definitely the way to go. My wife even likes it, as it “just works” without her having to mess with multiple remotes. Overall, very pleased, and would gladly recommend to any friends.

Great sound, easy setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup of this soundbar and accompanying subwoofer can be done in two ways. The easier way is via an optical audio cable from the TV to the soundbar. Disable the TV’s internal speakers, turn the soundbar on either by the power switch on the right side or with the included remote, and you’re off and running. Be sure to orient the bar properly so that the little display on the right side is visible. The display indicates the type of audio connection, volume level, and whether or not any of the additional sound styles (extra bass, etc.) is active. The other way to connect is using HDMI cables IF your TV supports HDMI-ARC (Audio Return Channel). This allows the TV and soundbar to communicate with each other, and the soundbar volume setting, etc. is displayed on the TV as well. HDMI-ARC has been around for a while, so your TV probably does support it. The included subwoofer is connected to the soundbar via Bluetooth, and it pairs automatically when both are turned on. I did find that the subwoofer would occasionally not pair right away, and the included instructions say to simply press the “pairing” button the subwoofer in such a case, and pairing occurs. I connected the sounbar to my TV both ways just to see how they work. There was no discernable difference in sound, which was in all cases excellent and a dramatic improvement over the rather tinny speakers on the 38-inch TV in my den that I have this connected to. I plan to use the optical cable connection for a couple of reasons. First, the soundbar package includes an optical audio cable but does not include an HDMI cable. Second, all the information you really need is displayed on the soundbar’s display (volume level, source, specific ound setting). Simple and works fine. To my mind, soundbars, while they improve the sound versus the sound from pretty much any TV’s internal speakers, are most valuable when used with smaller TVs. I have two TVs, one is a 65-inch that we use in the living room and that has pretty good sound, so we don’t use a soundbar. The other is a 38-inch that I use in the den and whose built-in sound is much less satisfactory. I connected this soundbar to that TV, and the improvement in sound quality is wonderful. The subwoofer only adds to the experience. Overall, I highly recommend this soundbar. The improvement in sound is every bit what you would want, and it will greatly enhance the audio experience for any TV it is connected to.

Powerful Sound and a Sleek Low Profile Design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.---HIGHLIGHTS--- Excellent Sound Quality, Sleek and Compact, 3.1 Channel, Dolby Digital and DTS Compatible, Bluetooth 4.0, High Resolution Audio, Wireless Sub, Wireless Rear Speaker Ready ---DESIGN and CONTROLS--- The speaker and sub have an attractive black finish. The sleek and compact design complements my flat panel TV very nicely. Setup was simple and consisted of plugging in the soundbar and sub, and connecting the soundbar to the TV with an HDMI or optical cable. I tried both the optical and HDMI cable and found the sound to be identical. Using an HDMI cable is preferable if you want to use the ARC function which will help cut down on cables. The sub and soundbar automatically paired every time I turned them on. I really like that the soundbar automatically selects the proper input (HDMI or optical) based on the signal being received.. It also detected my TV brand and automatically took over the volume function so when I raised or lowered the volume with the TV remote, it controlled the soundbar volume. Just remember to go into your TV settings and disable the TV speakers. This system is Bluetooth capable and I found connecting my phone to the system to be easy and reliable. Included accessories: remote, optional feet to change the height, and a wall mount bracket. ---SOUND QUALITY--- For a speaker with such a slim footprint, the sound quality is superb! The movies and music I listened too sounded full, detailed, and pleasing to the ears. I especially noticed a remarkable improvement in dialogue. The laws of physics dictate that there are limits to the amount of bass that can be produced by speakers of this size, but that is to be expected from a small sub. The sub is wireless but be careful about placing it to far away from the screen and soundbar, because that can cause the sound stage to collapse if the bass becomes localized. I experimented with various sound effects modes and decided to use the standard setting for TV shows and DTS Virtual X for movies. ---BOTTOM LINE--- If you don’t have the room, budget, or desire for a separate surround sound system, then this system is a perfect option. I am very impressed that such a compact system sounds this good! Going from using your TV speakers for sound to this system results in what I would describe as a night and day improvement in sound quality. The improvement in dialogue intelligibility was especially noticeable.

Great Sound for Smaller Rooms
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When connected with a USB cable the system provides good overall sound with clean highs from the sound bar, and trembling lows from the wireless sub-woofer, but this system is best used in a smaller room such as a bedroom, a family room/den or an office. It could simply be the design difference between a "sound bar" system and a true "surround sound" system, but it didn't provide enough "oomph!" for action movies (or even live sporting events) in our high-ceilinged, open-space living room. I now have movie theater sound in my master bedroom instead & I love the sound of it in that smaller space!

Amazing sound and powerful bass
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked this one up over a Samsung model because I read too many things about the subwoofer being subpar. I am glad I bought this one instead because the sound is POWERFUL when watching movies. Paired fantastic with my Sony 930D with HDMI Arc (You must use an HDMI with ethernet cable or ARC will not work, the manual did not specify this.) No delays and my TV remote controls the soundbar if I lose the LG one. Everything turns on/off together and it just works PERFECT. There is a reason no one has left a bad review on this one yet. The speakers on my TV are hot garbage for how much the thing is worth. The difference is scary. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in the market for a 3.1 soundbar under $400. Watching The Fast and the Furious in 4K with the volume past 20 really had my apartment roaring!

Fantastic Sound easy setup and connection
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great sound bar. Great quality sound in and low profile compact design. Both sound bar and subwoofer are “smaller” than expected but don’t be fooled. This speaker system can fill a large room. I connect the LG -3.1 Channel Soundbar to my LG SK8000 Series LED with no issue VIA HDMI.. (Optical Digital was an option but I didn’t use it). Subwoofer instantly connected to the soundbar. I have an open concept living room and kitchen and LG 3.1 Channel Soundbar fill the room up with rich clear sounds. Definitely would recommend this to a friend or family member.

High quality sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first soundbar I've used and I was pleasantly surprised. Pros: Quality build Great sound Ease of use Ease of connectivity Cons: Bass can be too much Setting this soundbar up couldn't have been easier. It connected almost instantly and there is zero work involved with pairing the sub. We use an optic connection with out TV and everything we needed was included. We have it set up on our TV stand however it did come with mounting hardware if preferred. This item has a nice weight to and in addition to the sleek look is clearly made of quality materials. The sub is light weight and small enough to fit wherever needed for your room layout. The sound this puts out can be as loud as needed and the sub delivers a nice deep base to round out whatever you are listening to. This is used with the TV we use for general TV watching as well as gaming and it performs well in both situations. Watching movies we've seen before has been interesting as we can hear a wider variety of background and supporting sounds than the TV alone delivers. The remote is straight forward and doesn't have a bunch of useless buttons to confuse the user. With the quick setup and quality sound I would recommend this to anyone.

Great Sound, Easy Setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup of the soundbar couldn’t be easier. In my case I connected with the optical cable. The instructions say to set up the sound on your TV, but my TV detected it automatically and disabled the TV sound for me. Next I placed the subwoofer where I wanted it and plugged it in. The soundbar connected to it automatically! Once it was all plugged in, I just turned everything on and that was it, great sound! There are various settings you can select via the remote: ASC (Adaptive Sound Control), Bass Blast, Movie, DTS Virtual:X and Standard. I use the standard setting for news and weather, the movie setting for, well, movies and the bass blast for music. It’s got really big sound for s soundbar. I have mine in my den which is a 10x12 room. When I had my stereo hooked up it always sounded too big for the room. This Soundbar is perfect for my room. If fills the room with sound, but never feels like it’s overpowering. Overall I am very happy with this soundbar. I highly recommend it.

What more could you want from a Sound Bar!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the simple lines of the product’s design, the wireless capabilities, the High Resolution Audio and the amazing DTS Virtual X, LG SL6Y 3.1 Channel 420 W RMS Sound Bar incorporates leading audio processing technology that provides sound quality of 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution which is as close to original sound as can be replicated. I am not sure what additional features one would need or want more from a sound bar. The 3.1 channel DTS Virtual X allows the creation of the cinema experience without multiple speakers, wires, space, and in general -- clutter. DOLBY Audio DTX Virtual X delivers height and surround sound all around the space. Multiple soundbar configurations, can be toggled through with the use of the remote. Which leads me to one of the best features. This technology gives the sound bar the ability to automatically adjust the sound level to create an ideal audio experience depending on what type of genres is being watched – action, drama, etc. I love not having boisterous loud commercial breaks! The remote also allows for the sound level of each speaker that is added to the system to be adjusted. I was able to use the universal cable remote to adjust the system’s volume immediately after installation. The LG SL6Y 3.1 Sound Bar comes with a Bluetooth sub-woofer which pairs instantly when plugged into an electrical outlet. The soundbar itself, can be either connected with the Optical cable which is included or through the HDMI (Arc) connection using an HDMI cable. I connected the soundbar to a 42” TV using both methods and saw no real noticeable difference in sound quality and/or audio resolution. It is an easy connection, one just need remember that once the soundbar is connected to your TV, the TV sound must be set to external speaker. The sub-woofer paired instantly when plugged into an electrical outlet. However, if for some reason it does not, there is a reset button on the rear of the sub-woofer that can provide a little extra help in pairing the sub-woofer to the soundbar. Both my phone and tablet paired instantly to the soundbar, and again – GREAT SOUND! Included accessories are the remote, an optical cable, wall mount brackets or sound bar skid feet. The soundbar comes with a 1-year limited warranty. There is also a Surround Sound Expansion optional kit (SPK8-S) which I will probably pick up that includes a receiver and two small speakers that can connect wirelessly and be placed in the rear of the room for complete cinema total surround sound. Powerful audio and sleek design, I can find no CONs and a lot of PROs for the LG SL6Y 3.1 Channel Sound Bar. This is a BEST BUY Great Buy!!!!!

Excellent Build Quality - Very Satisfying Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are thinking of buying the LG SL6Y soundbar kit, please read my review first. The SL6Y soundbar by LG is at the lower end in the price range of a quality all-in-one speaker system to turn your everyday TV into a home theater system. And it does that pretty nicely! Aesthetically the system looks pretty regular, nothing flashy at all and quite compact. Which is actually a really good thing! I didn’t want to have a system that is too visible, I prefer one that blends in and sort of disappears (until you turn it on). Physically the SL6Y is nice and stealthy that way. Like all of the LG products I’ve ever encountered, the build quality is outstanding. The soundbar itself feels solid and when holding it feels like one solid piece. I was not as much impressed by the subwoofer. It is on the small side, which is fine - but the materials feel a bit cheap. I suppose it doesn’t matter since most people will hide this wireless sub out of sight, never to be seen - but only heard. And it does sound good! It pairs nicely with the soundbar it is packaged with. It completes the audio range where the soundbar leaves off at the bottom-end. It won’t rattle your house off the foundation, but it will provide a very nice sounding reproduction of audio. It’s very satisfying in my 12x14 room, providing crisp audio. I have enjoyed watching my favorite movies with this system connected. It adds a whole new dimension to watching a movie at home. It’s nearly as good as going to the theater! The only thing missing is the surround sound speakers that reproduce audio 360 degrees around you. That would require a set of rear speakers, which this system doesn’t have. However LG’s special sauce called DTS Virtual-X creates an immersive experience that will cause you to look around the room for hidden speakers. It’s not exactly like having speakers all around you, but considering what they can do with just the soundbar - it’s really quite amazing. Watching TopGun the jets actually sound like that are whizzing past you on either side. Lots of fun! For those willing to mount rear-speakers, this system is prepared to handle them. Sold separately, LG makes a set of rear-speakers that attach wirelessly to this system giving you full 5.1 sound. That must sound amazing! Talk to your local Best Buy Blue Shirt for a demo! Connecting up the system was a piece of cake, and there are a few options. I chose to hook mine up with the provided optical cable. An HDMI cable is also provided, and can be used if your TV has an ARC connection. Pairing the wireless subwoofer took literally 2 seconds. Essentially it was plug and play. I put the sub about 15 feet from the soundbar and I never experienced any cut-outs. Another method to connect is via bluetooth. This unit uses Bluetooth 4.2, which if your TV supports it will give you a wireless configuration. My TV didn’t have that, however I did connect my iPhone to the soundbar via Bluetooth and used it to play my music. It sounds really good! Much better than my small compact bluetooth speaker. But not as good as my large component audio system. But that’s to be expected. The remote control that comes with the soundbar is easy to use, nothing too confusing about it. It is very straight forward in design and button layout. It didn’t take long to figure out all of the features. The signal coming from the remote seems very strong and unidirectional. I never had to point directly at the soundbar for it to recognize the remote. A feature of the remote I find somewhat humorous is the large letter ‘F’ button. For whatever reason LG decided to put the big F on the button to stand for ‘Function’. It just looks a bit funny on a remote. The F button! ha! LG provides basic mounting hardware with the soundbar, in my configuration I simply set it on a shelf under the TV. I found the voice quality to be particularly good on this system. The feature called ‘sound effect’ provides some control over molding the sound to your liking. I keep mine on ASC (Adaptive Sound Control), which provides excellent all around audio. A lot of systems I’ve tried in the past have difficulty balancing voice audio along with background sounds. Or when a commercial comes on and blasts you out of the room! This system automatically adjusts the sound level to prevent that from happening. LG competes with Samsung, both are giant electronic companies from South Korea. Both make great products, I can’t say anything by good things about them both. I would say that if you have a Samsung TV, you probably are better off buying a Samsung soundbar system. For the same reasons you should buy an LG soundbar if you have an LG TV. The systems will work better together, and you can most likely ditch one remote. For example the LG has ‘Sound Sync’ which easily mates LG products together. It’ll work with any TV manufacturer of course, but I just think it makes more sense to keep like manufacturer branded parts together. This is a really good system, very high quality build materials and very good sound reproduction. You won’t be disappointed with this system, and it will likely provide you years of faithful sound service. Recommended!

Packs a powerful punch with a sleek design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The aesthetic design of all my products are very important, not so much more than the quality but about equal to. This soundbar from LG offers the sleekest and most modern design I have ever seen from a soundbar and has the sound quality to match. The soundbar setup was extremely easy and very quick as it offers a multitude of different connection types from HDMI to Bluetooth to Optical cable basically no matter the TV you have you'll have no issues! Setup took less than 5 minutes. The sound quality is extraordinary. It has crystal clear sound and matched with my hue lights and other home products it is just what I needed to feel like I'm in the movie. The LG SL6Y has been a pleasure to have as an addition to my home theater experiences. I would highly recommend it.

Excellent little speaker set!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a full stereo receiver and surround sound system that we use for watching movies, but this one works so well with just the TV running. We are finding ourselves turning the big system down since the sound form this one is even more clear than our old system. With the wireless sub, the sound can be moved around to give the room the best possible quality. I find that the volume is not as high for me to hear everything, making it better for watching things later in the evening when others are trying to go to bed! Would love to add the wireless rear speakers, but am happy with just the bar and sub for now. Now that I have heard the sound from this in our home, I may have to rethink the big system!

Great sound quality at an affordable price.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a 13-year-old Mitsubishi CRT TV that has two 6" speakers. While they have always worked well, they don't have much range. I decided to get the LG SL6Y soundbar to upgrade my listening experience. It is packaged very well and the setup instructions are very easy. You simply plug in the soundbar and subwoofer. The subwoofer will automatically pair with the soundbar. If for some reason it doesn't, there is a pairing button on the rear of the subwoofer that you can use to pair them. After initially powering up the soundbar, I decided to pair my phone to it. It was quick and simple. I then listened to a song that I am very familiar with. It sounded better than it ever had through the soundbar. If you turned the volume all of the way up, the neighbors would definitely know what song you were listening to or what movie you were watching. I then watched regular TV with the soundbar. Everything sounded great. There is so much more range than just TV speakers. This soundbar has several different sound settings (Bass Blast, Standard and DTS Virtual: X). The remote is compact and easy to understand. It even has the option to adjust the EQ. You can add or reduce the subwoofer as well as bass and treble specifically. You can also adjust the balance from left to right. To truly test the soundbar, I decided to watch the first Transformers movie. I know that this movie has a lot of different dynamic sounds and would really push the soundbar. I watched it in "Bass Blast" mode. I had the soundbar on top of the TV and the subwoofer behind the couch. It was amazing. I had the volume level at 20 and it was loud! Max volume on the SL6Y is 40. It would be painful to listen to it that loud. The soundbar performed great. I was amazed at what I had been missing just using the TV speakers. You hear every detail. I have to admit, I suffer from the "more is better" syndrome, as in more watts is better. I had been looking at soundbars with much higher power than this one and I'm glad that I didn't go that route. This is a fantastic soundbar and at a much better price point than those that I had been looking at. Although there isn't much need for true surround sound with the SL6Y, I may one day add the rear speakers. I highly recommend the LG SL6Y. You will not be disappointed!

Shocked on the quality!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a soundbar, this thing is a beast and at the open box price (excellent condition) at $216, it's a no brainer. Easy to hook up to my Sony 900F. Fills the room with glorious sound and the bass doesn't over do it. I can definitely tell the difference between a 2.1 and 3.1 soundbar. Do yourself a favor and get a 3.1. This was a great price! The downside is this system seems to be always on. The off function just seems to make it go into sleep mode, which is fine. Sound quality is crisp, clear, and great, dont need to worry.
