Great Monitor for Both Work and Play
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This new monitor has me wondering why I waited so long to upgrade. I really like it for several reasons. First is the quality of the screen. It is bright and vibrant and has a fast refresh rate so videos are very smooth even in the highest definition. Second is the ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio. Not only does it play theatre wide aspect ratio, it also let's you see nearly twice as many cells in a spreadsheet, or words on a web page. I've mainly been using the monitor for work and was curious how the ultrawide aspect ratio would impact Office products. Let's just say it was very seamless and easy to setup. I was a little surprised that it didn't have a thunderbolt port, which is the only ports my laptop has, but it was cheap and easy to get a converter to the HDMI port. Working with this monitor has made work more productive, as the wide screen can be split into two or used to view more content than a 16:9 screen. When work time is over the monitor is its own entertainment system. It connects to Wi-Fi and has its own apps. It was smart enough to find my media servers and automatically connect, so I can play my home videos using the remote. There is also LG Channels, which allows you to watch free live tv, shows and movies. Also, it has Apple AirPlay so you can transfer content from your mobile devices directly to the monitor. I have also played some PC games with the monitor and the graphics are flawless and smooth. So far I've been impressed with the quality and functionality of this monitor, especially given its price point. I definitely recommend it.

The 1800 curve proved to not be enough for this 34" monitor. The outside 4" on both sides tend to be out of focus causing a bit of eye strain when working with office apps. I also did not like that it is a "smart" monitor. No need for the bells and whistles that only raise the price of the unit itself. I replaced this monitor with a 4k 32" flat screen which is so much easier on the eyes.

I would be happy to purchase a higher resolution monitor but I also wonder if the one I have is just faulty. I'm also chatting with LG tech support and they are completely useless. They keep asking me to "Use HDMI Cable" - I am!!!
