Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the 4.5 Cu. Ft. 14-Cycle Ultralarge-Capacity High-Efficiency Steam Front-Loading Washer's quiet operation, excellent cleaning performance, and large capacity. Many appreciate its ease of use and the numerous features it offers. However, some users note that cycle times can be lengthy, and a few have reported issues with the door and spin speed. While some minor concerns exist, the positive feedback on cleaning and quietness is prominent.

    Pump leaking within 30 days

Washer began leaking within 30 days of purchase. No one in our area to service the brand, waited nearly 2 weeks for LG to find someone that would come service it. Even had to replace our subfloor and flooring due to the flooding. Returned both the washer and the dryer. Will not purchase this brand again.

Be prepared for longer than normal wash cycles!

For some one who has never before owned a high efficiency washer, I was very surprised by the long wash cycles, like 2 hours?!?! Of course, this makes sense to me once I watched the wash cycle and saw how slow it tumbles the clothes. So far so good! We have had it for almost a month and I don't have any complaints, it seems to clean our clothes well and doesn't tear up our delicate like our old agitator washer seemed to. GET "WATER HAMMER ARRESTORS"! Trust me you will want them, otherwise your water pipes will clang and bang as the solenoids open and close during rinse and fill operations.

Don't waste your money on this washer. Does not like to wash big loads. Sometimes the load gets unbalanced and it gets stuck on minute #9 for hours until I remove wet clothes or half the load to make it spin again. I am so upset and disappointed with this washer.

    Washer Defective

This is the second washer that I received that was defective. The first had defects on the glass, which was not a big deal, but I paid for something new, so I expected it to be new. Therefore, we exchanged the washer. The second washer was better looking, but it was so loud and made a whining noise when water came into the drum. It was so loud I decided to exchange for another brand. LG needs to have a better quality assurance department.

Cleans Clothes Well But Not Quiet

My main complaint is the noise level during the wash cycle. My main reason for upgrading was to have less noise during the wash cycle and this thing is still relatively loud compared to my old 15 year old washer. The clothes do come out very soft and clean. It's efficient in terms of water use and the cycles run through pretty quickly. I think the longest wash cycle I've seen was still less than 1 hour. And the fast wash option only takes 15 minutes when I'm in a hurry to run something through a wash.

    Excellent Cleaning Performance and Capacity

After a good deal of online research, I spent more than I had anticipated on this washer, and I'm so glad I did. I expect the savings in water alone to make up for the price difference over a less expensive top-loader. Aside from using just a scant amount of water (I can't even guess how much my old large capacity top-loader used, but it was a lot), requiring less detergent, and being gentler on clothing, the capacity of this front loader is about double that of my old washer. I nearly purchased a larger model, but then realized it wouldn't fit through the washroom door. Just as well, as the 4.5 cu. ft. holds much more than a typical laundry load for me. Unless you generate a huge amount of laundry or wash very large items, this size machine should be adequate. As for the performance, it's amazing. It's quiet, and the cleaning performance has far exceeded my expectations. I have used the steam function for smelly dog beds as well as clothing that smelled very musty from being stored in my damp basement, which I thought were hopeless and would need to be discarded. Both have come out fresh, clean, and odor-free, to my amazement. I noticed some reviewers complained that they felt the water level was inadequate for proper cleaning, and there were dry patches on some items at the end of the cycle. I have had sheets and lighter fabrics come out with dry spots, but after carefully watching the wash cycle & pulling items out mid-cycle to make sure they're fully saturated with soapy water, I'm certain that everything is getting cleaned. I attribute the dry sections of fabric at end of cycle to excellent water extraction during the final spin cycle, which greatly reduces drying time. I highly recommend this, as well as any other LG washer, as the performance is superior, and they are rated highest by Consumer Reports for performance and reliability - one of my top reasons for choosing this model. And if you occasionally have heavily soiled loads or strong odors, the steam function is well worth investing in.

Recommended Washer for Singles or Couples

This is a review of the washing machine after 2 months of use. We are a family of 2 so this machine meets our washing needs perfectly. The design and looks (with the pedestal) is 5 stars. We upgraded our washing machine from a top loader (rental) which used a LOT of water, super-noisy and destroyed our clothes. The LGW4270HVA uses almost no water, we can barely hear it while it washes the clothes and the clothes look amazing (and dry). I can almost say that the clothes are so well dried that we barely need to use the dryer (perfect for apartment/condo's). The washing machine uses very little detergent (we calculate ~50% less than the old top loader). I particularly like the Allergen and Sanitary washing cycle - the clothes smell very nice. We have used it to wash whites, colors, gym clothes, delicates and bedding with no issues. Recommendations to those new to front loaders: Yes, the washing machine takes longer to wash the clothes. but it does it quietly, with little waste of water and very little use of detergent & electricity (+ the clothes are almost dry at the end of the spinning cycle). Yes, you have to dry the washing machine after use and don't close the door immediately. We found small/minimum water spills around the door seal after the washing - this is because some water accumulates there during the washing. It is not a big problem for us - we place a cotton cloth for a couple of hours (after drying the glass door) and there are no issues. Why I don't give it 5 stars? I really dislike that I don't have the access to the phone control capabilities of the washer with my iPhone. This is perhaps silly but I do feel like LG is purposely discriminating those customers who don't have an LG Android phone. Once there is a full iOS app I will give the washer 5 stars.

    Take a little of understanding

We were an early adopter for this washer when we purchased it back in Dec. 2014. We bought this to replace our old Neptune front loader. I have found this washer has so many features that it become overly complicated compared to using a old agitator top loader. Why? Regardless of what I were washing before with a top loader. I would just add laundry, a full cup of Tide and turn the knob to normal wash. This worked for doing both whites and darks. When bought this unit I figured I read the manual and follow the directions on tide box. Low and behold I had to experiment a little bit to understand the idiosyncrasies of the washer. Once I did this I was seeing clean clothing. Tips: 1. Tide recommends using line 2 of the cup if you have heavy soiled clothing with a water softener. I recommend line 3. I have found the laundry to not be clean enough using line 2. 2. Please drain and do a tub clean once a month. I have not had to use any tub cleaning products. When doing the draining I have found almost the water to be a viscosity of syrup. 3. Leave the door open all the time to let it dry out. I usually have it open about an inch or two from closing. 4. Leave the soap drawer open about an inch partly to let it also dry out. 5. Buy quiet pipe by Oatey and install them at the washer end. I have found this new washer turns the water off abruptly several times and was concerned about the hammering. 6. When doing whites I use a prewash with soap added for prewash. I also increase the soil level and use the bright white cycle. Make sure the water is hot. If you follow the guild lines above you will see it works well. I found a reduction in both our water and electric bills using this washer because our old front loader was a 2.9 cu ft. and this one is 4.7 cu ft. In other words, I used to do two loads for person. Now I just do one load.

    Excellent Washing Machine

We have owned this washer along with the matching dryer for three month now. Installation was flawless and professional. Have never had the "water hammer" issue at all. It does a great job on delicate shirts that you don't want to fade (just use the hand wash cycle with cold setting and Woolite (he). The cycle for white clothes in amazing. I just use a little bit of liquid Oxyclean (he) and the whites come out brighter than when I used to use bleach!! I even washed a 5' x 8' shag rug on bulky cycle with no problem. Can't say enough great things about this machine. Huge capacity, great and quite performance.
