    Trapped, Smelly Water After every single wash cycle, residual, dirty water is left trapped inside the machine. If this water is not immediately and manually drained—which requires a messy and time-consuming process—it quickly develops a horrific, sulfurous odor (like boiled eggs or rotten sulfur). ​As a result, our freshly washed clothes come out smelling worse than they went in, requiring a total rewash. We are forced to drain the water manually after every load just to prevent the smell, which is not a feature; it is a critical design failure in an appliance that costs thousands of dollars.

      One helpful step is to check that the drain hose is installed at the correct height (between 29–96 inches) and not inserted too far into the standpipe, as improper installation can cause water to remain trapped inside the unit. Running the Tub Clean cycle with liquid bleach or a washer cleaner can also help eliminate odor buildup.
