It's only been a few weeks since this new washer was installed, but so far this is an excellent product. The capacity is much greater than the unit it replaced (same dimensions), the features are terrific, its relatively quiet (much better than the unit it replaced) and efficient. The installation went smoothly, thanks to the Best Buy installers.

Great product for discount, does what it needs to do no fuss. I haven’t connected the wifi option yet and probably won’t for the better of simplicity. VERY VERY important to level it properly. Do what you gotta do to make sure it’s not wobbly in any direction

Had this unit for about a month now, have tried washing everything from small rugs to quilts to king size bedding to soiled pants from tree cutting to feminine delicates like pantyhose/tights and silks (put them in a mesh bag). I attached two USA-made water hammer arrestors (Sioux Chief brand from SupplyHouse SKU 660-H) to the hot/cold water intake valves to prevent heavy pressure on the water pipes when the water turns on. The only thing I don't like having come from an old school top loader to a front loader, is that the clothes get really twisted up on each other -- long sleeves & pant legs are twisted from the rolling motion of the drum and must be shaken out else they come through the dryer very wrinkled. Just some extra steps I wasn't used to, but the machine itself is fantastic. After use, be sure to use a clean dry rag to wipe out the inside of the rubber gaskets near the door seal, and keep clean/dry the softener/bleach tray. I leave open both the door and the tray to ensure the insides get fully dry after use to eliminate any risk for smells. The unit is very quiet, even on full speed spin cycle. Water use isn't really an issue with front loaders since the water gets sloshed around unlike the top loaders which can't soak all the clothes very well. All the different settings were a little overwhelming at first, just keep the quick-start guide nearby if you need to reference it. Overall I'm very pleased with the unit. Hopefully it will be a workhorse for many years.

I purchased this to replace an 18-year old LG front loader that I loved. I don't think the new one works as well. With the reduced water usage, I have found that I have to use liquid detergent or the clothes don't get clean, especially with cool water - the powder detergent isn't even dissolved all the way and the clothes don't smell clean. Liquid detergent works fine. The detergent dispenser is annoying. If you are using liquid soap and want to do a pre-wash, you have to put the pre-wash detergent directly into the drum. If you try to put it in the dispenser, there's a hole and it runs underneath before you can close it and doesn't get used. If you want to use powder, you have to remove the plastic container for the main wash cycle or half of the powder will remain in the container. Also, it leaves small pools of water in the dispensers, so I have to leave it open to let it dry so it doesn't mold. It doesn't have a hand wash cycle like my old washer, and the delicate cycle is definitely harder on my clothes than my old one, even in a mesh bag, so I have to manually wash certain items that I used to run through the washer. If you have pets that leave fur on your clothing or people with long hair, expect to find clots of hair on whatever you wash. This washer does not deal with hair or fur well. My old one wasn't great in that area, this one is definitely worse. If you're dealing with animals (I have older cats) that are incontinent, you better presoak anything you used for cleanup before dumpingit in the washer or it will still smell. I haven't tried the steam yet, maybe that will help. While this washer has many different programs, the instructions say you need to wash any large items on the bedding cycle. So what about large, delicate items like lace tablecloths? They need to be done on delicate. Not sure how I'm going to handle that one. I like the large selection of temperatures and spin speeds - especially the ability to not spin at all. And the spin cycle is amazingly effective. I haven't used anything above medium and even my jeans are drier than high spin in my old machine. The entire machine is definitely quieter than my old one. I can barely hear it when I'm on the first floor (it's in the basement). I also like that you can do up to 3 rinses. I don't like the wifi function. I have no intention of using it, and wish there was a simple way to disable it, so I unplug the washer every time I'm done using it. I don't like having the controls on the front - I use the top for folding and sorting laundry, and have inadvertently turned it off while it was running and inadvertently enabled / disabled the control lock just by standing or leaning too close. The selection panel on the right is really hard to read. My basement doesn't have bright lighting and my sight is not great, and the lights that glow to indicate what has been selected overshadow the writing, making it difficult to read. The words need to be back lit or written in a contrasting color or something. The drum on this is larger, deeper and lower than the one on my old washer. Not a problem for me as I'm short, could be an issue for someone with back or knee problems. At the same time, it's several inches taller than my prior washer due to the controls in front. If I had added a pedestal it would be shoulder height. Washing times are comparable to my prior machine. The longest cycle so far was 90 minutes for some very dirty bedding, and it came out really clean except for the hair clots that I had to pick off. The time estimate that appears on the display is accurate, so I can set a timer and come back when it's done. I like that the signal to notify you that the washer is done can be turned on or off. Overall I'm happy with the washer, but am not impressed with this new high efficiency technology.

Clothes come out clean, and the built-in measuring devices make loading in the soap, etc., easy. The control panel is a bit difficult to read and the many selections are overkill. Reading the panel isn't easy from the standing position. You have to bend down and look straight at the panel to read it. Then there is the Thin Qu app, which adds unnecessary complexity to a simple process. I want a spin-only cycle to ring out wet rags when something spills, And, the machine turns on on the normal wash cycle lit but it isn't you have to cycle the knob to get teh control panel to offer the options.

I purchased this unit to replace an 11 year old LG front load washer. The old unit had provided great service, but the control board was getting unreliable. This new unit is a substantial improvement over the older unit. For the same physical footprint, it has a 30% larger capacity, is quieter, has more wash selections, and has WIFI to support built-in intelligence. I can now wash a queen comforter in this unit which I could not in the prior unit. Only negative is it comes with a really short drain hose. Be prepared to purchase an extension.

    LG Washer/Dryer Review

First I want to say my rating would actually be 4.5 if that was an option, simply because I was hoping for a "My Cycle" setting because I do 99% of my laundry on the same setting. My husband has brand loyalty and we had Samsung washer/dryers for the last 10 years. They worked great, but both washers had to be replaced around 5 years. I put my foot down since I do the laundry and said we were getting a different brand. I did a bunch of research and ultimately it came down to the LG set and the GE Profile set. After looking at a bunch of reviews I decided the soap dispensing option seemed gimmicky with the GE and while the vent option seemed great, the GE matching dryer is what made me decide to go with this LG set. The GE dryer had too many negative reviews. I've only had the set for 3 days, but I was a week behind on laundry for a family of 4 so I've done 10 loads in the 3 days. So far, and hopefully it will remain this way, everything has been great. I use the same setting for everything, except bedding. Normal is my go to. The LG takes about 30 min less time than my Samsung. My Samsung on the same settings took 75 min for a load of laundry, while the LG takes about 40 and they come out just as clean. I need to experiment with the settings more once I'm caught up on laundry, but the normal mode works great (I adjust the settings a bit with temp, spin, soil level). It's super quiet, so for the people saying it's really loud and knocks stuff off their walls... I just have to say - learn how to level a washer. My Samsung would sound like an airplane when it was spinning fast, this one you can hear in the next room, but my laundry room is on a different level and I can't hear it at all. For the people saying there isn't enough water because their 10+ year old washer filled it up... yeah the older models waste water. These ones put the actual amount of water you need in the tub, your clothes are still getting clean. Ok, now for the dryer. The dryer was the deciding factor for me with the GE and LG sets. The GE had too many different negative issues, while the LG seemed like people were complaining about the same things. First, I want to address the people saying their clothes are coming out wet when the dryer says they're done. Don't use the sensor dry on any dryer. It doesn't work. I've had the option for so long on different models and all it does is get your clothes hot and it thinks it's dry. Time dry setting is all you need. I set my temp to medium and because I do larger loads and a lower heat, it does take about 75 min to dry, but that's what my Samsung did too so that's ok with me. I might fiddle with the sensor dry to see if it actually works on this one, but because I'm behind I don't have time right now to try that out. For the other people complaining that lint is flying in their face, I haven't had this happen at all. The lint trap is actually really nice, the lint comes out super easy. My Samsung had one that had to fold open and we had to replace it a few times because it would crack/break from simply opening it to remove the lint. After reading all the reviews I'm sure there are some defective dryers causing the issues, but I think a lot of them are user error. It also seems like the older generation is comparing apples to oranges and wants their new dryers to act like their 15 year old ones. If that's the case and you want an old school washer/dryer with an agitator that uses way too much water, then shop for that and don't buy something like this just to complain that it's different. I'll update if things go awry.

This is our second LG front loader, which we purchased to replace the old one that died after 14 years of service. My clothes are definitely cleaner and the larger capacity is nice. There is a great range of settings (which our old one also had) and it's easy to operate. I don't understand why I would need to start my washer remotely (there is no magical feature that loads it or transfers the load to the dryer) so we have never connected it to our wifi or explored those settings. But it's paired with our original gas dryer we purchased in 1994, so we're clearly not hung up on new technology. :) We've had it for over a year and still love it. Cleaning the drain was easy. Highly recommend!

Awesome washine machine! This one is super high-tech. Every feature this machine has is useful. I greatly appreciate the Turbo Wash feature that saves time. The sanitizing steam cycle is also useful. The LG ThinQ app is also very useful. From important notifications to mashine maintenance, it's a must-have. Sometimes I forget to close the door. The app notifies me so I don't regret it later. My next purchase will their dryer.

I am VERY pleased with this purchase! It cleans very well but I will say be careful with the amount of detergent you use, even with HE, as it has left some suds in there and I've run a quick wash when this happens (only has happened when washing sheets/mattress protectors so maybe the combination of absorbent and backing causes the issue, I'm not sure. Even washing it alone with just the one item it will suds up pretty good so just be aware of that). We came from using a Maytag commercial 4.0 cubic ft top load washer and this is more stylish and the pedestals are a must, whether it's the LG ones or buying off brand or from amazon or making it or going to a scratch and dent place to get some for half the price, trust me, get them! Definitely make sure you balance the legs and also don't overload the drum. If you like large fluffy towels I'd say don't put more than 2 or 3 in there together because it will definitely make it rattle/get unbalanced, that's just the nature of those towels. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase and the delivery and install was SUPER fast and very easy. The drivers/installers were very kind and knowledgeable, bless their hearts having to do all that heavy lifting and moving. Would purchase all over again, also the ThinQ app is AMAZING! I don't leave clothes for hours and hours now forgetting that clothes are done and the downloadable cycles are a great feature! Also it hooks up to your Amazon Alexo/Echo devices and can notify you on those if you don't always have your phone on you.

Only a few weeks of use but so far very happy with it. Easy to use and good overall performance. Fits bedding and good sized loads. Rinses clean. Fits in a compact space and is quiet. The only thing I don't care for is the smell the interior gives off. It doesn't seem to transfer to fabrics but it's unpleasantly chemical and hasn't yet gone away with use.

In all of my research I did not read anything about "TrueBalance" feature (see logo far right under control panel). I love, love, love how quite this machine is. The slosh of wet clothes is the loudest thing you'll get from this machine. After set up with a level, the spin cycle is sounds like a purring cat. My last LG high capacity never got close to being this enjoyable.

Read the manual first before buying.

The washer cleans well. However, you do need to download the full manual (not the short one that comes with the washer). Then, look over not only the process of washing clothes but the maintenance required. Specifically: 1. Choosing the right setting. 2. Wiping the door seal after finishing and keeping the door open until it dries. 3. Running a tub cleaning cycle after every 30 washes. 4. Cleaning the drain pump filter on a regular basis. Many of the low ratings come from owners transitioning from top loader washers. All top loaders basically require is throwing clothes in, dumping in detergent, and pressing start if you don’t need to change settings like temperature. The WMA4000HWA is somewhat more complicated. When you turn it on, it seems to default to the Normal cycle. However, you need to turn the Cycle Selector Knob one click before the washer actually is in the Normal cycle. Otherwise, you won’t be able to select the cycle modifiers (what LG calls settings such as temperature and spin rate) on the control panel. Because it always defaults back to this semi-Normal state after power off, you can’t leave it in your favorite cycle. You need to be aware of that if this bothers you. Other low ratings come from people who don’t understand how the washer works. As an example, clothes won’t be sopping wet at the end of most cycles. The spin cycles remove a lot of the water. However, some of the fault is on LG for not explaining certain things in the manual. Besides the issue of the Normal cycle at start-up, I regularly get the “Sud” or Oversudsing Detection warning when washing dish towels. The manual does explain what the warning is and how to get out of it. However, it doesn’t suggest how to avoid the error by selecting the Bedding cycle which is for articles that don’t absorb water very well. The LG ThinQ application does have some value so long as you recognize it’s basically a monitoring tool The remote start function is of value only if you are willing to set it up before “going remote” and then want to send a signal to start washing before you arrive back. Also, it doesn’t warn you if you are getting the “Sud” warning. Instead, the time until cycle completion display never changes so you must figure out something is wrong. Finally, the manual doesn’t give you step-by-step instructions on how to configure the app and pair it to the washer. Instead, the manual expects you to understand that you need to download the app, create an account with a username and password, and then let the app walk you through the process. There supposedly is a QR code in the included manual to help but I never found it. The washer does what is supposed to do. It cleans clothes while using less detergent and water. However, you must be willing to understand how the washer works to get the best results. Otherwise, a top loader especially a commercial style top loader would be a better choice.

This washer replaced an older LG front loader that died. It’s quieter than the older washer, especially while draining. It doesn’t have the usual buzzing drain pump that the older washer had. I also like the larger capacity: 4.5 cubic feet vs. 3.7 cubic feet of the older unit. And the interface with the ThinQ app is a nice bonus.
