Gotta Love LG

I got tired of my top loader washing machine, rated as a water conservation device (it basically did a poor job of cleaning my clothes, and often times damaged by thin work out shirts), so I found this at the Best Buy store in Honolulu. It was an open box demo, so I got it a little cheaper than normal. Thus far I have loved this thing. its' high tech, cleans my clothes very quickly, has a separate cycle for towels, bedding, and whites. And it conserves water without damaging my thin, delicate clothes. Love it.

It's doing it's job! I bought is because I have REALLY hard water and my last washer only lasted 4 years. The app will not sync (don't really need an app, anyway...). I like the different settings, too.
It is very LOUD, a lot louder than my samsung.

I owned the washer and dryer pair for a week or so. I had to return it because it was too big for my space, too low for me (I’m 5’9) and not ideal for a home with a tiny human who likes to spin knobs.
I did like the look of the washer and the different cycles. Just wasn’t ideal for me and my family.
I did not like the fact that I needed to buy another piece to the washer and dryer set to make it taller to accommodate my height. And each piece was $250. Not okay! Especially when the average height of a person is between 5’4 and 5’9. I don’t understand why they cannot build a set that accommodates tall people.

Washer does a great job. Quality build. Quiet operation. Much more quiet than our Maytag front loader that died after 4.5 years. First LG brand appliance. We like it!

I changed from top loader to front loader, that’s a huge shift for me. This one has lots of room so reduced my no.of cycles. AI sensing technology decides how much time required for each load. Impressed with this piece of machine… Happy with my purchase and will choose LG for other home goods in future!!!

Not impressed with so-called high efficiency technology. I have had this machine for over a year. I had no desire to have a 'smart' machine so never hooked up the wireless. The washer itself does not work as well as the 15 year old LG it replaced. It does not have a hand wash cycle, but does include the ability to wash without spinning, or to run a short rinse and spin cycle. It has a 'turbo' wash function, for which I cannot find a definition anywhere. The only thing I have noticed is that it shortens the cycle and the clothes don't seem to get as clean. It can be disabled for some cycles, but not for others. I have problems using powdered detergent as it doesn't dissolve well - even in warm water. There's just not enough water in the tub. There is also not enough to use it to soak clothing prior to washing - I now have to do that outside the washer. The wash cycle for delicate clothing is much rougher than before, so I cannot wash underwire bras or some sweaters and now have to do them by hand. I find that things do not smell clean unless I run a pre-wash, then multiple rinses are required to remove the detergent. I suspect I am using more water than before because of these additional cycles.
The compartment for adding detergent and bleach/softener is poorly designed in my estimation. There is a piece that actually has to be removed to use powdered detergent, and the pre-wash section lets liquid detergent leak all over prior to starting the machine. It is not all washed away when the machine starts, either - I had to remove the compartment and clean the sticky soap residue both times I tried it. So I have gone to placing the detergent directly in the drum. The construction of the compartment also causes it to hold a lot of water, so I have to leave it open until it dries to prevent mold.
The controls themselves, where selections are made for the wash cycle, also leave something to be desired. There is faint writing on the inside of the plastic, which is then backlit from inside, making it very difficult to read, especially as my basement is not well lit. It's good enough to not send back, but nothing to write home about.
The instruction manual tells you to lie clothing flat in the drum and stack it. Since when is that needed?? In my prior machine I could just stuff it full and it worked. With the new one, if I fill it to capacity, or just wad clothes up and toss them in, nothing gets clean. I will likely look at other brands when it comes time for a new one if this one is not completely redesigned by then.
So longer wash time, smaller (more) loads and not necessarily as clean when compared with the old one. I c

I have owned many different washers in my life. I have never had one that I had any complaints about. This, washer, however, is the absolute worst. Starting from the first day, the chemical odor was horrible. According to LG, it will go away. I got that reply after 2 weeks of constant messages and texts. I wonder if they have a quota of replies before they can just ignore an inquiry. More important, the machine does not clean well. We are an active family and wash multiple loads a day. About half the time the washer decides to run a fast load and the other half a very long load. The website says it can be due to the size and type of load. Our experience is that the sensors don't work at all. It is frustrating to dry laundry loads and have them reek when they are done. Additionally, the choices of load, speed, temperature etc are useless. You have to start the load, then stop it, in order to make changes with any of these things from the apparent presets. We end up doing a normal load each time and going through three steps to get close to the type of washing we desire. Lastly, the information provided on the machine is minimal to none. Perhaps there are other ways to go around the presets but we could not get any information online. No complete manual available. I wish I had purchased the Samsung model that we just replaced!
Hi, Susan. Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the LG Washer (WM4000HBA) model. We understand your concern about facing these challenges, especially when doing multiple loads a day for an active family. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations. Let’s address your concerns and see how we can help improve your experience with the washer.
Regarding the load variability and sensor behavior, running loads balanced and within the machine’s capacity can optimize cycle performance. If adjustments to speed, temperature, or other settings are not saving properly, resetting the unit by unplugging it for 10 minutes may help recalibrate the controls. For detailed instructions on customizing cycles, the full user manual is available online on the LG support website by searching your model number.
We’d love to assist you further and explore solutions tailored to your needs. Please send us a private message on social media @LGUSSupport so our team can address this directly. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we’re here to help. ^Juvy

Read the reviews were good on LG washing machines and they are very reliable. This model had the steam functions that I wanted and it was a great deal. It keeps my clothes very clean. Theres an area to put an allotted amount of detergent for prewash, main wash, fabric softener, and bleach and it really helps keep the mess down since I don’t have to pour my detergent in the lids they came with. To keep the water from pooling up and causing a stink, I just keep the washer door open and it airs right out. It plays a really nice sound when the wash is done too.
