The LG 49SK8000 is a good tv

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought the LG 49SK8000 at Best Buy online on Thanksgiving weekend 2018. The tv was shipped free via UPS. The tv arrived in 3 days and in good shape. At the time of my purchase, I had narrowed down my choices to either the LG 49SK8000 or the Samsung UN49NU8000. I wanted a tv that sat on a pedestal, not a tv that had legs that were far apart. I also wanted a 4k capable tv to replace a Samsung 43 inch 1080p tv that I had been using that was losing picture brightness. At the time of my purchase, both the Samsung TV and the LG TV were selling for about $700 prior to the Thanksgiving sale. Then the LG TV was priced at $500 for the Thanksgiving sale. So I bought the LG TV because it fit my needs, budget, and because it was both DolbyVision and HDR capable. I am using the TV with a Yamaha RX-V683 surround sound receiver as the hub of my home theater system. I am also using the tv with Apple TV 4k where I get many of my movies from itunes in DolbyVision and HDR. I am also using a Samsung UBD-M8500 4k blu ray player. I am also using a Directv set top box for 1080i tv broadcasts. The LG 49SK8000 performs well within my home theater system: It handles Dolbyvision movies and HDR movies from Apple itunes via Apple 4k TV well. It handles 1080p movies and HDR movies from blu disks used on the Samsung UBD-M8500 well. The Directv broadcasts look good also. I should point out that when I first got the tv, I had to do a lot of tinkering with the picture adjustments for Dolbyvision movies, HDR movies, 1080p movies and normal broadcast tv pictures. I found it necessary to adjust the picture settings for each type of input and then save the settings for each type of input. The tv automatically loads my saved picture setting depending on the type of input I am viewing. I am writing this review months after my purchase because the LG 49SK8000 purchased from Best Buy was a good purchase. There may still be a limited supply of these TVs available from Best Buy, and they still offer good value for the what you pay.

    Best TV I've Ever Owned!!

I've only had this LG 4K TV a few weeks but I love it! Everything from the crisp picture quality to the speaker sound! Everything about it is fantastic!! Because of the remarkable picture quality, this TV is excellent for watching sports as well. I also considered the Samsung NU8000 before purchasing the LG. So happy I got the LG. Best TV I've ever owned!! If you're out in the market for a brand new 4K TV, don't think twice and get this! You won't regret it. I know I haven't.

    Wi-Fi issues...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've had this LG SK8000 Series for about six months now and for the most part have been very happy with it. It has great picture quality, the OS software and magic remote makes switching between apps fun and interesting. Not to mention having to type in your email/password when signing into apps is a lot more easier when using the magic remote's mouse feature. However, about three months ago I started to have issues with the Wi-Fi (I use the built-in Wi-Fi function.) It started off small at first, the magic remote would disconnect, no biggie, I would just reconnect it and then it would be fine. Then the Wi-Fi would randomly drop the connection while using the built in Apps but I chalked it up to maybe bad internet service or router problems as the dropped connections weren't that frequent. Now I'm lucky if the Wi-Fi would stay connected for more than five minutes. It is definitely not a router problem as everything else in my living room with Wi-Fi capabilities are able to pick up the signal with no problem. And forget reconnecting because when I go into the Wi-Fi settings to reconnect I just get this message where a list of networks should be "Wi-Fi is Turned Off. Turn it on to see the list of available networks that you can connect to and additional related menu items." The magic remote has become just as unreliable as the Wi-Fi as it disconnects or freezes constantly, mostly after the Wi-Fi drops so I assume the two problems are connected. In my search for a possible solution to the problem I only discovered numerous other complaints to the same issue I am facing but no actual resolutions. I was trying to avoid having to submit the TV for repair because of my busy schedule and the hassle of transporting it but am left with no other options. If all goes well *fingers crossed* I'll edit this post with an update.

    Fantastic

I got this tv about a month ago and my only regret is not getting the 55 inch rather than the 49 inch but since this was for my bedroom, I felt the 49 inch would be fine. The picture is crisp, clear, and the colors are beautiful. I have not had any issues with the blacks being too dark or gray nor any issues with vertical light on the screen. The picture is just beautiful in either a light or dark room. The audio is good as well which I set to cinema and dolby atmos and adaptive sound left off. I did make some adjustments which really helped everything to pop. Picture at APS, dynamic contrast at medium, motion eyecare off, noise reduction at low, and LED dimming at low. As I said the only regret I have is not getting the 55 inch rather than the 49 inch

Very easy to set up. Picture quality is beyond excellent. Love the curved stand. One con, so far. Voice is out of sinc with people’s lips sometimes. If I shut tv off and then put it on again, it will correct itself. However, it sometimes reverts back. Does not always happen. When it does, it’s annoying.

    Great crisp picture

I needed a TV that had good side-view due to the room and placement of the set. Tried a Samsung and the facial features faded as you got to about 45 degrees from center. This one kept good color past that angle. My only gripe is occasional slightly darker vertical bars in white/light background settings. Not sure why this is happening infrequently. More investigation required.

Got this tv about a month ago. Was a little bit more than what I wanted to spend, but boy I’m glad I did. LOVE this TV. Picture is amazing, and sound is actually pretty good. Size is perfect. There are still a lot of feature with this TV I have to learn but I would easily recommend this TV to anyone.

    Buyers Remorse

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bought this tv since the display in the store looked great and the speakers are 20w. Got it home and started watching Mr Robot, and noticed horrific back light bleeding, and worked through all of the settings trying to remove it. Turning off local dimming helped the most, but the bleed was extremely distracting as there are about 5 or 6 zones, all vertical. So if I have one or two separate areas of brightness in a zone (Regardless of height) the entire section lit up brightly making the picture look horrendous. Normal tv/movies looked fantastic, and the remote/user interface are awesome, but the backlight bleed is the worst Ive ever seen.

    Bad Experience

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

There was a huge glitch with the network setup. Worked at first and then TV couldn't find any Wi-Fi networks or even recognize the network when plugged in with Ethernet cable. Probably a software glitch/update. Too much of a hassle. Additionally, really didn't like the magic remote - a bit too tricky for my taste. Very good picture but sound quality not that great. Ended up exchanging for a Samsung and much happier now.

LG took the chime out of turning on and off

I love my LG. I have an LG OLED, and it is fantastic, but expensive, and I have LG phones, LG washer and dryer that chimes when on and sings a chime when it is finished. I miss my chimes. The new 49 Super LED Smart Tv does not chime when turns on or off. What happened LG, you disappoint me. I loved the chimes and now 2 of my new tv's do not chime. Bummer.

    Mounting the tv

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I don't own the tv. But I was looking into buying it. I can't say what the picture looks like but have read it's a good picture. So why am I writing this? I was looking at the pictures of the back of the tv. And 2 things are going to make me pass on it. The location of the Power cord and the inputs that are facing straight out. I have a tv stand setup to mount a tv. and both the power cable and those inputs are in line with the mounting bracket. My only option would be to take apart My stand and reconfigure it for table top viewing. And that's not why I bought the tv stand. If you look at the pictures the mount ports and power cord are next to each other. Like the look of the tv but beware if you want to mount it to a wall or tv stand.

This t.v. was never particularly user-friendly. And after 3 years, I can hardly get it to stay connected to the internet. Bought an extended warranty, but of course the t.v. is connectable when someone comes out to look at it. Just doesn't stay connected.

    Why?

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Because i have a 65" 65SK8000PUA LG tv and it has true 120Hz refresh rate. I wanted a smaller TV for my mom and this is what she wanted but unfortunatelly, its 60Hz refresh rate!! Why did LG make a 49" TV with 60Hz in the 8000 series category?!?!?!?!!? ALL 8000 SERIES MUST HAVE 120Hz REFRESH RATE, NO EXCEPTIONS!!! 55" is too big, Samsung has 'synthetic' 120Hz refresh rate, Sony dies with pink screens and the rest are just, not smart at all.. So remove this model from the stores because its an embarrassment to the 8k series and replace it with the proper model!

After setting up all the wires and mount the TV, I was surprised with the quality of the sound. My 10 years old Sony sounded a lot better than this one. I am not sure if it is an issue with this particular one that I got, or the sound for this model is that bad. Planning to return it back.
