LG 49” TV is just what I needed!

I was looking through various televisions made by LG and decided that the best option for me to upgrade my existing television would be the Nanotechnology in the 49” version of LG television. I liked the fact it had an a7 generation 3 processor available for the 4k with AI Picture and AI Sound versus the generation 2 processor that the current models in stores had.
The NanoCell display technology is known for better shades of the color black. The 4k display has provided excellent quality images no matter what type of media or pictures I view on it. I like the fact that they included webOS which is a way to browse the internet on your large screen with the handy remote control. It also has the ThinQ AI with Magic Remote which is a feature package remote control that you can use voice activation to search for items you want or give it commands. It also connects to Google Assist to help you with questions you may ask it related to finding certain content. Another positive option is to activate the Alexa feature on your Amazon Prime account to do tasks like check the weather, look for certain music, and more like on other Alexa enabled devices.
I love the various apps that are preloaded or available on the television like Netflix, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney, Sling, YouTube, and Apple TV. I also use the art gallery app which gives you many beautiful paintings that you can use as a screensaver or background when the television is not playing any shows. I also use Google Play for movies and television, VUDU for movie rentals, Showtime, and HBO Go for premium content and also have the Redbox app installed for any movie streaming at home. The LG content store has so many other applications available that you would most certainly find ones that would fit the needs of your family.
I am very happy that the sound quality is excellent on the TV and that all of the technology built including pairing my phone with it via Bluetooth technology has made the television my favorite purchase to date. I love having some many preloaded apps to give me plenty of options for entertainment. I would highly recommend this television to my coworkers, friends, and family.

Gaming features on this set are unrivaled. Hdmi 2.1, 120hz, decent Hdr, instant game response, gsync+++,freesync. Colors are excellent. Also the only tv remote I actually love it's basically a wii remote. Everything is exceptional except in one area the BLACKS.....this tv should have been full array backlit, Instead it's edge lit and the local dimming is so bad that say a title showed up in the middle of the screen that would also be accompanied by several collums of light up and down the screen. I couldn't deal with it I returned it got a samsung Q60 and even though the blacks were fixed I missed all the gaming features and the REMOTE so I bite the bullet returned it for an lg oled BUT......if I didn't have this stimulus check I would have rebought the nano 85. For any that can wait I read that the new nanocell releasing this year are going to fix all issues of the current.

Bought this for the upcoming consoles (Xbox Series and PS5). After about a week of use, the picture has been tuned to a way I like it (not too bright, heavy contrast) and it looks great. Being an IPS display it does really well with sharpness and blacks and whites however one area that is a plague to all IPS is the glow of the backlight. And this tv had plenty. Only noticeable when in dark scenes (more so if HDR is on and enabled) but it’s not a deal breaker. Supporting HDR10, HDMI 2.1, 4K 60 and 4K 120hz it’s a great panel for the price. It also supports free sync and variable refresh rate for gaming. Anyone looking for a “budget” TV that supports everything you need to be furniture proof with consoles, streaming sticks, and more this is a must. LG web OS and ThinQ is one of the best OS for TVs as well. Added bonus. Supports Alexa and has the magic remote!

NO BRAINER FOR NEXT-GEN GAMING CONSOLES

First: Wasn't paid or asked to write this. I didn't have the budget for a true OLED display for my PS5 preorder so I ran across this thing after days of research. Wow. Did I luck out! This thing is totally underrated---all the hype is being aimed at the more expensive tvs. I'm telling you, this thing is kind of on the DL and that pricing and inventory will vanish. It is packed with next-gen features that will support most of the current and forthcoming (via updates) capabilities for this new generation of gaming consoles. The current $500 price is an *outstanding* deal for the features including native 4k, HDMI 2.1, 120 Hz and gamer-friendy profiles, eARC, HDR profiles, and more. I don't know if it matters, but my unit was manufactured in the second half of 2020. I paid more than $500 at Best Buy, but was able to offset that with LG's free online (LG direct) XBOOM Go PL5 speaker offer (check the offer anf when you purchased the tv from BB). Everything seems be working with flying colors. I even bought the UHD 4k BLU-Ray version of "1917" to test the screen and my PS5---the sharpness, detail, brightness, and HDR mode absolutely blew my mind. Only have three complaints. 1. The Nanocell "local dimming" feature is a missed opportunity. It achieves darker darks for more contrast by selectively turning off *regions* of brightness can produce an unfortunate halo effect/artifact around very bright image elements against dark backdrops. (This is versus a true OLED tv's ability to completely turn off *individual* pixels with stunning effect.). Just turn this feature on low or off and bask in the HDR display profiles. 2. Related to my previous point, adjusting all these settings (HDR, gaming profiles/refresh rates, sound profiles, etc.) is not super intuitive. I see a lot if owners not taking full advantage of all the features they paid for because they don't understanding the tech and the necessary config. settings. LG needs to do better user education like providing optimal settings for gaming consoles, sound bars, etc. 3. Last conplaint is actually on Sony. The tv supports Dolby Atmos for next-gen "spatial" surround sound. The PS5 has its own proprietary 3D audio (why?!) but 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound are built in and works great with the tv and my soundbar. All in all, $500 is a no brainer for a tv with next gen tech for next gen gaming consoles.

Great TV, PS5, Xbox Series X Ready

I already had a pretty good tv, a 2018 vizio v series 4k, but I wanted a tv that was next gen gaming ready, and this fit the bill.
Its crazy to me that's there's no information or advertising of this TV having HDMI 2.1 ports, not on here, or LG website, but it has 2. If you don't know what the HDMI 2.1 ports are, they are needed to play games at 4k at 120Frames Per Second. I did a lot of research before buying this TV, and to my knowledge, this is the cheapest TV that has 2.1 Ports(most tvs average at $1k).
Now to the TV, I think its fantastic. Like I mentioned, I already had a pretty solid Tv to begin with, and this is noticeably better in picture quality. The picture is very crisp, and clean. Colors are super vibrant and look authentic.
I play games on Ps4 currently, and the gameplay is great. Just set the picture to game mode, and the TV will automatically register that you're playing a console and put on Game Response Mode.
I can't comment on the sound quality, as I use a sound bar.
My other favorite things besides the picture are the remote, and Alexa/Google enabled.
The remote is just magical. Its like a magic wand, you just point at the screen and the arrow follows. No need to scroll to pick what show you want, just point and click.
The remote also has built in Alexa and Google Assistant. Just hold down the prime video button for Alexa, or the mic button for google, and you can ask it anything a normal Assistant would do, as well as find shows/movies to watch.
Overall I think its a great Tv.
It has a ton of great options. It has a bunch of built in Apps, like Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Prime Video, Peacock, Apple TV, and whatever apps it doesn't have, just download them on your phone and you can stream it to the Tv.
Theres also a catalog of Free Live TV for anyone considering cord cutting.
FYI, my Local bestbuy had this exact model on display at my store, so I was able to check it out before purchasing as well.

Excellent PC Monitor for Media/Gaming
|
|
Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.

I wanted a "monitor" that could do console gaming, PC gaming, and general PC usage adequately well. This TV can do all three acceptably.
It's an excellent choice if you're looking for a large format display for general PC usage/gaming and media consumption and don't want to spend over 1k for an OLED.
Decent picture quality out of the box. It's an IPS panel with good color accuracy but supbar contrast that cannot deliver deep blacks like a VA/QLED or OLED TV. The image quality is on par with the other IPS panels I've used (most recently the LG 27" 1440p 144 Hz Nano IPS).
As an actual TV and sitting further back, you would be better off with a QLED panel at this pricepoint for the better contrast alone.
IPS panel with wide viewing angles means you can use this screen while sitting closer without worry of the colors/gamma shifting on the edges of the display. Text is rendered appropriately on resolutions/modes that support 4:4:4 chroma subsampling.
Native 4K @ 120 Hz over HDMI 2.0b: Currently there is no PC graphics card on the market that supports HDMI 2.1 (which will drive 4K@120Hz and 4:4:4). However, after hooking the screen up, 4K @ 120Hz 4:2:2 was an available option. Note that you must be using HDMI 3 or 4 (which is labelled by LG as 4K 120Hz on the TV itself).
Will need a 3000 series NVidia card or the next AMD iteration and 2.1 cable for full support and those are coming soon. For now, this mode will still work but at the expense of image quality and text clarity.
4K @ 120Hz, 1440p @ 120 Hz and 1080 @ 120Hz were options immediately exposed in the NVidia Control Panel under PC in the Change Resolution menu.
GSync compatibility is exposed by the display driver but I have not tested how well it actually works.
Response time (or how quickly the display can show changes) is okay. Not as good as modern gaming monitors but acceptable for an old person like myself.
Input lag (or the delay between a mouse movement/key press and actual movement on the screen) at 4K@60 is pretty good but becomes much improved at the 120Hz modes. Rtings measured it at around 5-6ms which is great for a TV.
As far as response time and input lag go, If you want to play games competitively you probably wouldn't be looking at a 49" screen anyway.

Great gaming features that won’t break the bank.

The LG 49NANO85UNA is great display for next gaming, but a few sticking points may turn some off this display.
LG employs an ADS-IPS native 120hz panel for their Nano85 line up which offers nearly double the contrast ratio of their normally used standard IPS displays.
Last few gen from LG contrast ratio was falling between 700:1/900:1, but the Nano85 hits at almost 1800:1.
While not as impressive as its VA based counter part, it’s great for an IPS.
A quick and easy addition you can do is add an LED bias light on the back of the set that will improve perceived contrast ratio and alleviate eye strain.
Another common issue outside contrast is uniformity issues/IPS glow. My unit exhibits very little in the way of bleed (just a small area in the upper left hand corner.
It isn’t noticeable unless an entire black screen is present, but with the aid of the bias light it’s nearly imperceptible.
Motion handling is another area of importance for gaming.
Gaming on the Nano85 blew me away with auto low latency mode (ALLM) input lag is very low making for a very responsive gaming experience.
The native 120hz panel make for a seemingly blur free experience.
The display has 4x HDMI port, two of which are full bandwidth HDMI 2.1.
This will allow for 4K/120fps experience allowing for adaptive refresh rate like VRR and Freesync/G-sync.
I don’t have a Freesync/g-sync capable GPU at the moment, so I will update with the launch of next gen consoles and AMD/ NVIDIA graphics cards once I’ve settled on one.

I have been using this for about a week now. Bought alongside my PlayStation 5 and will hope to provide some further insight. Review sites like RTINGS have simply provided the wrong information. I will provide some pros and cons.
Pros:
- Picture is beyond solid, especially for a television that is an IPS panel and not VA, and that is only $500. The HDR provides good brightness, but will not blow you away. I sit directly in front of the television in my setup, so the side viewing angles I cannot judge. Colors do pop and further adjustment can be made.
-The gaming portion. This television has two HDMI 2.1 ports with one being eARC. This allows your console and computer to achieve 4K 120hz. The PS5 switches this instantaneously when set in a game. There is a low input lag option in the picture settings plus AMD Freesync, but I am unsure if this ties into consoles at all. I believe the input source needs to support it, which kind of renders this mostly useless as I'll get to in a second. There is a high and wide option for it, and I cannot get clarification if it works. This may mean the Xbox supports it.
- For PC, Windows (NVIDIA Control Panel) will see this as both a television and a PC monitor. The tv portion only tops out at 60hz, so the PC monitor portion is where you can alter to 120hz. The tv does support both 1080p and 1440p at 120hz, and that is a wonderful option as most 4k tv's, especially at this price, will just down sample to 1080p and normally works like garbage. With 120hz enabled, screen tearing was minimal if any, and gameplay is extremely smooth and satisfying.
- For smart tv and UI, it offers everything that any tv does now. LG also has it's own channel lineup that is chock full of free television, which is a plus. It has the webOS interface.
Cons
- For Consoles, it is really hard to find any. You get what you pay for. Playing NBA 2K, if lighting changes, it can remain dark and look weird. Also, the color options on PS5 at 120hz only tops out at YUV422, which is 4:2:2 Chroma. It does not provide RGB full color at that setting. The tv also has the option to automatically switch inputs when something turns on. I'm really impressed with the features that are implemented and if you are using this as a pure gaming monitor, you won't be disappointed.
- For PC, a few more issues crept up. According to RTINGS, this is capable of 4K 4:4:4 Chroma, but I simply cannot do it. I cannot confirm if this LG is held back by the same issue as the CX/BX with not a true HDMI 2.1. My card is a GTX 1080ti and Freesync will not work over HDMI on that device. There is no displayport, so my hope is to upgrade to a new AMD RX 6800XT in the near future. I'm not sure if NVIDIA will support freesync/g-sync over hdmi on newer cards, so i'd rather not take the chance. If freesync doesn't work at all over HDMI including with new AMD cards, then the freesync option is a complete waste of space on this television. The picture still looks good at 4:2:2 Chroma, but there's more potential there. RTINGS claimed if you renamed the input as PC, that it'll unlock the 4:4:4 Chroma. I can confirm it does not. You can change the input type to PC and rename it PC, and it does not change. Even with HDMI Deep Color enabled/re-enabled. I wish these reviewers would do more due dilligence.
- TV UI is slow as molasses. Bringing up the menu and using the pointer is slow and rather annoying. You get what you pay for.

The TV is awesome, I’ve had it a little over a year now.
Here is the bad: Make sure you change the settings to how you like and TURN LOCAL DIMMING OFF. Local dimming is so distracting it’s really really bad. If you turn it off it fixes the problem.
The blacks on the TV aren’t great so HDR doesn’t work so well as well as dark scenes but if you change the hue on the TV it actually helps a lot.
The Good: after changing those settings and a couple other adjustments the tv works like a dream. Beautiful 4K picture and beautiful colors. Very wide angle viewing.
The best part and what I bought it for is gaming. I got it for the PS5 and it outputs 4K at 120htz 2.1 hdmi. It delivers beautiful picture and I absolutely Love it! Cheap price tag for what it delivers especially as far as gaming goes. Still works great a year later and looks just as good.

Best gaming tv you can buy without over spending and getting premium features like 120hz and 4k and freesync/Gsync on the cheap. It's constantly updated. A few quirks to setting it up to work well with PC. With console it works great right away.
Just wish it was brighter. HDR mode is terrible. There should be a way to enable fast gaming response and freesync at 120hz without automatically enabling HDR.
The brightness is very low once properly set up. It's sad. Sound is great for a skinny TV. Picture quality is just ok...I've seen some stunning 4k TV and I'm talking LED not Oled. This one does not come close. But overall you get tons of features for cheap. And it does a decent job.

Love it. Goes amazingly well with my PS5. Has everything your looking for to establish your next gen gaming at a low cost point entry. 120Hz refresh rate , Hdmi 2.1 , great quality , sound, magical tracing remote. It’s a gamers dream tv for the price point! I would like to add as everyone else has already said the black colors tend to be a bit more on the bright side. But it truly does not bother me at all. I’ve always liked LG’s TV quality and this one does not disappoint. Price , quality, technology. Can not go wrong here. Even with the black being a bit brighter still deserves a 5/5 from me.

One of the best TVs on the market right now for the price. 120hz and supports 120fps gaming. Nice future proofing for the upcoming xbox and ps5 systems. 4k image is nice and clear. A lot of nice filters to use when you’re either gaming, watching a movie or just watching tv. Magic remote is awesome. HDR 10 usually works great, but the blacks are not perfect and sometimes doesn’t look right, but this is not common. Also comes with Freesync for when playing games. Overall, this is a great value, you get all the most up to date features in a TV that’s not OLED and for a price that won’t set you back 5 years.

I’m going to give you guys a short and honest review. Hands down best tv for next gen console...PS5/Series X. I strictly use it as a gaming tv. I tried several monitors at 4K 60hz with HDR and they don’t compare. I did not feel like paying an arm and leg for a monitor with hdmi 2.1; this tv gives you everything. If you are using VRR with HDR, I do recommend turning off VRR, otherwise you will get brightness flickering. It is edge lit, therefore, you will get brightness on edges but it’s not bad at all if you keep your brightness down. Enjoy!

First off let me say I bought this strictly for use as my main PC monitor. If that is mainly what you are going to be using it for there is nothing else at this size or price that will even come close to the features this thing has. 120Hz 4:4:4 at 1080P,1440P AND 4K as well once HDMI 2.1 GPU's hit the street this Fall. It also has Freesync and VRR. Picture is excellent. Nice and sharp with both desktop use and while gaming. Response time is basically nonexistent So if you're looking for a HUGE PC monitor with all the bells and whistles you can't lose.
As a TV though it leaves a bit to be desired. HDR is pretty bad considering it is an Edge Lit panel and the contrast is also very sub-par due to it being an IPS panel. If you just want a nice TV and good HDR I would look elsewhere as there are plenty of great TV's at this price that are plenty better at fulfilling that need.

Excellent tv for the price! Has all the bells and whistles needed for next-gen gaming. The dolby atmos speakers sound good actually, i dont go past volume level 10 and get loud crystal clear sound. I recommend turning off local dimming and turning black level to "low" for better blacks. Also use TruMotion on "cinema clear" u get the best framerate with no motion blur or tearing on that setting

Great size for a bed room. Perfect for gaming as well super smooth. game mode automatically turns on with your console. Local dimming looks weird it looks like a bunch of led strips turning off and on. To be completely honest I Love the TV I have the 49" local dimming can be distracting when you whatching a dark movie scene in a dark room but it still looks great its obviously not oled but very close for a led tv. Colors are beautiful Dolby Vision and Atmos is Awesome! Dolby Vision looks best in Cinema Home setting on Disney+ and standard when the day is bright standard sound is best for perfect Atmos sound No surround sound keep it off in standard sound. It also works great in all like Netflix, Hulu
and slingtv. You can turn off led local dimming if it bothers you "i keep it on" you can't really see a difference with it on or off never put dimming on high keep it on low which is standard you don't have to do it . I also recommend to turn off power saving mode. I'm making it sound very complicated but its not im just trying to make you have the best experience with your LGTV. You can look on YouTube on how to adjust you tv settings. Just make it on how you think looks the best if you really care. It'll till look great out the box. Hopefully LG makes updates to improve led local dimming!.. Here are some awesome movies to test out your new TV! Frozen 2, Moana, Maleficent, Wreck-It Ralph, zootopia, Princess and the Frog, Toy Story 4 ,Finding nemo and dory, Aladdin2019, inside-out, Coco Dumbo2019 and Any Action Movie like Aquaman, Deadpool, Captain America, guardians of the galaxy, Wonder Woman, iron man, The Conjuring 2, Orphan, Trick r Treat. Etcetera Etcetera. Anything and everything Will Look and Sound Amazing on this TV Enjoy!!

I got this TV for the PS5 because it was the cheapest TV that had HDMI 2.1 support and.. it works great. When it comes to gaming the colors look amazing and seeing games run at 60 or even 120 fps is amazing. If you dont already have a 4K TV and are looking to upgrade to one for next gen gaming, then this is a solid choice. You really cant go wrong with the price. Now I'm not a big movie person, so this wasnt a big deal for me, but if you are someone who loves watching movies and wants the best picture quality when it comes to tv shows and movies.. then this might not be the right TV for you. Image quality is still really good and the colors look amazing but when it comes to the black levels.. yeah the blacks just arent as good. Especially when viewing from a dark room. The blacks always look more grayish so.. to me this wasnt a big deal as I don't watch a lot of movies and when I do I dont really notice that kind of stuff mid way through a movie, but I know this can be a deal breaker to a lot of people, so keep that in mind. Also because of the black levels not being so deep, the TV actually looks great in a bright lit room so.. if you are setting this up in a living room or a room that is always being hit with lights, then this TV will look great. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase. I use it almost exclusively for gaming so for that reason alone, this was well worth my money and I would recommend this to someone looking to upgrade their TV for a better gaming experience without spending close to or over $1000.

I know you’re a gamer scrolling through this hoping to see if this is what you need, and I have the answer. Yes, yes it is. The tv has beautiful colors, but with a downside of having some really deep blacks that can be configured with in the game’s settings. It has the 4k@120hz that you’re looking for and it may very well be the best tv at this price. Don’t make the mistake of not buying this tv.

Great T.V for gaming 120 hz and 4K with HDR is truly amazing on this TV. I went from a cheap 32 inch tv to this it was a big upgrade. WebOS is easy to use and add apps to it. For gaming it's a good purchase for either PS5 or Xbox Series X it does have a 2.1 HDMI connection.
