great overall 4k/dvd player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a great Blu-ray and dvd player. The video quality is excellent at native resolutions, as well as the upscaled versions. Colors are very vibrant with HDR movies, and the picture details are incredible. ((( of course this is provided you have it connected to a 4K UHD HDR TV, and are watching a 4k UHD HDR movie ))) regular dvd's and blu-ray movies still look good, but not as eye popping as the UHD HDR media There are only 2 negatives , which kept me from rating this a 5 star device. 1- this does not come with WIFI, but does accept a wired connection 2- this player also does not come with any streaming apps like a lot of other dvd/blu-ray players do (ie. netflix, hulu, crackle, etc...) with that said, it still can connect to your network and stream movies, pictures or music from compatible devices , like your phone or pc's. the device itself has no digital front display, so no clock, or information can be displayed on the unit itself. The front buttons are just as black as the device, but raised slightly, each with their own design so as to be able to feel for the button in low light situations. Keeping the whole device somewhat hidden on the sidelines until you want to use it. one bonus feature, that I thought was very helpful, is that the included remote control has the ability to work with your TV, for power , input and volume features.

Great build quality, massive format support...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has handled every format I've thrown at it. AVI's, MKV's, FLAC, so on and so forth. FLAC audio sounds great, and even my older AVI video files look better. 4K MKV's and 4K BluRays look gorgeous. The remote and front controls on the unit itself are extremely minimalistic (you have no screen on the player, just your eject, play/pause, stop, and power bottoms. And while I won't speak for anyone else, but I really really appreciate this approach and how clean it looks. Definitely gives it a more up-scale appearance. While I do prefer streaming, I wanted to try a recent traditional player and see how well it performed. It might not make me turn off my NAS and halt my streaming altogether, but it was really nice to do it the "old fashioned" way again. Who knows, maybe in a few years DVD/BluRay will be like vinyl and have a resurgence of sorts. If that's the case, I can definitely see this LG (and other offering in their line) being right there in the thick of things for a quality unit at a decent price.

Great 4K Blu-Ray Player!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most of the reviews comment on this unit not having apps or Wifi. Most people I know, myself included, already have their streaming setup going, so grading this player without all the added junk does not do it any favors. This player is better for it. Just a good, low cost, 4K UHD Blu-Ray player! Amazing picture!

Excellent value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The player is exactly what I was looking for. Upgraded from a PS3 that I was using for Blu Ray. This is not a smart player which is okay because I already have a smart TV. Excellent picture and integrates well with my Logitech Harmony Universal remote.

This unit is a keeper
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since getting the LG UBK80, I’ve used it to play both 4k DVD’s and non-4K versions. Both played exceptionally well, although with the 4K’s the clarity is outstanding. The UBK80’s remote was easy to use and intuitive, and is compact in size. The UBK80 is physically larger than previous units I’ve used in the past. My last player was 14” x 8” while the UBK80 is 17” x 8”. This is only Important if you have limited shelf space. Network connectivity proved an issue for me. My TV/Stereo setup is a good distance away from my network equipment, so I communicate with my Smart TV using Wi-Fi. The UBK80 doesn’t support Wi-Fi, meaning that to push software updates to the LG you’ll need an Ethernet connection. Not a show-stopper, but helpful to know. All in all, the LG UBK80 is a nice addition to our stereo setup. It’s easy to use, plays 4K video and is backward compatible to older video formats. For us it’s a keeper.

Simple and great for the task
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There’s nothing special or fancy about this blue ray player. It does the job flawlessly. The design and looks are simple with no bells and whistles like the ones that come in a pc. It has a wired network jack to connect it to the home network though I don’t have network content to play aside of my pictures. Two features that I like and are very useful are the HDR and up scaling to 4K. The one thing I don’t like is the operating manual is too short. However, the player is simple enough that an operating manual is not really necessary. This player is a good addition to a home theater system. You need a 4K and HDR capable TV to fully enjoy this player.

Good Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like how quiet and smooth this UHD player is.. I have been using a LG blu-ray player for the past 10 years , and I always felt that it made way to much noise while tracking up. This one is so much better in that regard, great sound and picture, keep in mind that at around $200 it is still a entry level 4K UHD player

4K but not a streamer "smart" thing...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything need nothing i didn't want. I actually bought this for my neighbor she didn't want a smart device that streamed, she just wanted to watch some older DVDs she had and maybe a few newer ones. WHile this was a bit pricey compared with some of the others, it gets the job done. Picture looks great, even with the regular DVDs running.

Good simple player, make sure you use right cables
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Depending on how you wire this up, you will need the latest HDMI cable with 18Gbps throughput for this player to work without flickering video. Once I figured that out, player works great but it's an annoying LG quirk that you can't turn subtitles on/off with a single button press on the remote. This remote has so many buttons I don't care about but you have to navigate 2 submenus to enable/disable subtitiles, very annoying! It does support 4k HDR so this is probably the cheapest player for that.

Possibly the best Optical Disc Player I've owned.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think it essentially the same player as the LG UBK 90, without some of the additional features and functionality. The Dolby Vision Support may be new on the UBK 90. It has two HDMI outputs, which could be useful in some applications and it has Wi-Fi, to which, I didn't see the need for, being there was an Ethernet port on the back and my U-verse network hub is right there on the same table. I hard wired from that with a Cat 5 cable and unlike what Best Buy's description says it is fully functional and not just "...for firmware updates only." I can utilize BD Live content from disc manufacturers any old time. I also didn't see why I needed smart functions being I had a smart TV that I was going to use it for that content from the old inter-webs. I cannot say enough positive things about my LG UBK 80. Hands down it is the best optical disc player I have ever owned (and I have quite a few through the years from CD players to DVDs to Blu-rays.) Everything I play through it, I end up hearing or seeing something that I had never experienced from that recording before. I am 50 years old now and from music that I have listened to since I was a kid to movies I have watched over and over since my twenties, the UBK 80 is such a great performer. Also you have this great multi media USB port on the front that you can plug songs or movies into on a flash drive in a huge assortment of formats. I literally have a pile of thumb drives packed full of music, on top of my LG. I probably need to get a paper clip cup from the dollar store for them, when I'm there again. Whether it is watching movies or listening to your favorite music, buy one of these LG players and you will be glad you did, for years to come.

Great quality video
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The video quality is 4K without a doubt. However there are some issues. While it does have internet capability, it has to be LAN, not wireless. The remote, while it is small, but pointed directly at the unit's receiver or it will not work. Overall for this being 2018, I expected it to have at least wireless capability. However for the price, it's an okay unit.

Standard Non Smart 4K uhd player
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quick over view If you are looking for a 4k uhd player with no smart apps. This is one for you. It has only has 1 hdmi port unlike to ubk90 which has 2. No smart apps and boot up time is pretty quick It does use BD live so if you have use for Blu-ray live you must use a Ethernet cable (no wi-fi) On to actual performance. I watch on an B8 OLED tv. I used my Samsung 4K player as a a/b comparison. Overall performance is good doesn't have Dolby Vision but HDR 10. You do notice some colors are not displaced as acurate. Same cable with no setting changes when doing the a/b watching. Using monster cable black. As most tv's and devices have smart apps this being non smart is kinda different. Also If you have a 4k 3d tv = this will play your 3d movies! I would recommend with a few be aware of pointers. 1. No wi-fi Ethernet only 2. No smart apps 4K blu-ray player only. 3. Does do 3d which unfortunately not many 4K tv's support any longer. 4. Pretty quick boot time to watch movies. less than 1.5 mins from power on to movie start. Also has the ablity to resume after powering off. Need to have feature turned on. If you can get this on sale Even better deal!

Just What I Needed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a player without all the bells and whistles and just played 4k discs. This player delivered. The picture is amazing and loading is extremely fast. If you need streaming and wifi connectivity this isnt the player for you. But if you just need to play discs it's a solid buy.

Decent basic 4k player. No streaming.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this machine after buying a Sony player that said 4k all over it but would not play 4k discs. I returned it for this. I already have a fire cube for streaming so I only needed a disc player. Also I have ethernet connections right there so didn't need wifi. I am very happy with this player. It works very well.

Great Blu-Ray Player
