    A Bedroom Home Theater Game-Changer

recently set up the LG S70TR 5.1.1-channel soundbar in my bedroom, and after living with it for a while, here’s my full unbiased review: First Impressions & Setup The S70TR arrives well-packaged with wireless rear speakers, a wireless subwoofer, and a soundbar — all designed to work together. Setup was incredibly easy: connect the bar to the TV via HDMI eARC, place the wireless rear speakers on my nightstands, power everything on, and it paired instantly. No tangled wires or complicated calibration menus. Sound Quality — Atmos That Works This is where it really matters: the Dolby Atmos implementation on the S70TR is surprisingly effective for a soundbar. When watching Atmos-encoded content (e.g., Stranger Things S4 on Netflix), I genuinely heard overhead movement and immersive height effects. Explosions, ambient noise, and atmospheric audio filled the room in a way that’s far beyond typical soundbar audio. The 5.1.1 configuration — with dedicated up-firing channel — gives a noticeably wider and deeper soundstage than standard 5.1 setups, and virtually eliminates the “front-only” feel many bars suffer from. Rear Speakers & Surround The wireless rear speakers are a game-changer for a bedroom system. Positioned just off the bed, they create a huge step up in immersion — footsteps, environmental cues, and panning audio genuinely feel like they’re happening around you. This isn’t “virtual surround”; it’s real, physical rear dispersion. Subwoofer Performance The wireless subwoofer punches way above its size. Bass is deep and impactful without being boomy or muddy. It gives weight to explosions, low-frequency rumble, and action scenes without overpowering the rest of the mix — and you can easily dial it up if you want more oomph. Gaming & TV Watching For gaming, the soundbar performs exceptionally well. Positional audio feels accurate, and directional sounds really help with situational awareness in FPS and adventure titles. Everyday TV watching (even non-Atmos stereo) gets a noticeable upgrade; the sound feels fuller and more detailed than your TV’s built-in speakers by miles. For non-Atmos content, I also found that keeping Digital Audio Out set to Auto 2 on my Sony TV and using “Cinema” or “Game” sound modes on the bar gave the smoothest, most immersive results. EQ & Tuning LG’s app and onboard EQ let you fine-tune the sound easily. With a few simple adjustments (bass +3 to +4, rear levels +4, center +1), the system becomes balanced and cinematic — even in a smaller room like a bedroom. Smart Features & Connectivity HDMI eARC support ensures the cleanest audio path from TV to bar. Bluetooth streaming works seamlessly for music playback. The LG app is intuitive and made adjustments easy without needing to fumble with the remote.

I am very impressed by how easy it is to set up this soundbar system. You basically plug in the soundbar, subwoofer, and rear speakers and all of the pairing happens automatically. Great audio sound in my basement.

This is your typical entry-level surround sound system that has good immersive audio, no noticeable latency at all, rich bass coming from the sub, and a clean setup due to the wireless satellite speakers. It pairs nicely with my LG C2 (which already had a great sound), utilizing the WOW Orchestra to provide the added layer of audio. It also integrates with the LG ThinQ app that allows near-full control of the system. Volume, Mute, independent DB control of the front and satellite speakers (more on that later), surround sound modes, equalizer settings etc. The only thing missing is the BALANCE. I happen to hear a little more in my right ear than my left, and didn't really notice it until I got this system. It would be perfect if we could adjust the balance. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Perfect for my smallish 20Wx12D ft living room

I had an older TV and just upgraded to the new new 65 inch LG C3 OLED TV. The picture on that TV is amazing! I had surround-sound with my older TV, but it was a pain in the neck to set up. I thought I’d try the LG soundbar because the ease of set up, but I really wasn’t expecting too much. What a pleasant surprise! The Dolby Atmos sound is top notch. The new soundbar comes with a subwoofer and has front speakers that go up and out, and the wireless rear speakers I have placed in the back of my room facing the TV. With the LG soundbar app, you can adjust the volume on each speaker. The WOW orchestra is a feature which combines the TV speakers simultaneously with the soundbar. It creates this high quality surround sound . It is just like going to a brand new theater. The setup is so easy. My LG TV recognized my soundbar and instantly worked. Just plug in that bad boy, grab a bowl of popcorn and prepare yourself for an immersive and powerful experience.

LG has released their new 5.1.1 soundbar system S70TR in 2024. The box includes the soundbar, subwoofer, 2 rear speakers, remote control w/2 AA batteries, 3 AC power wires, brackets, spacers, HDMI cable, speaker wire, and paperwork. The soundbar system comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty. Disclaimer: I used this soundbar system in my basement which is around 15'x20'. The room is built for a good movie experience. PROS: ----------- * This system is packed nicely in the box and has a nice appearance. It feels solidly-built, not cheap, but being black, collects dust particles quite well which are seen in some of my pictures. * Easy to connect. After powering on the main soundbar, once ON, the subwoofer and rear speaker lights go from blinking to solid green without any pairing process. When the soundbar is powered off, the sub/rears automatically go into standby mode (solid red light on the units). * Remote is easy to understand and has good responsiveness. * Rear speakers are REVERSIBLE. Since 1 rear speaker must be powered on, regardless of what side your power source is on, the LEFT and RIGHT speakers can be REVERSED in the app. So if your plug is on the right side of your setup, you can put the LEFT speaker on the right side with right speaker on the left side, then reverse the sound output in the app. Since only 1 speaker can be powered on, this was a good workaround and a great feature to have. * Decent bass & rear sound. The subwoofer puts out a decent amount of bass, and the rear speakers provide a good Dolby surround sound experience. * The app interface is much easier to use than using the remote control by itself and having to decipher the LED dots on the front of the soundbar. More options are available there to manage. There are similar options on the TV interface, but the app leads the pack here. * The sound functions (WOW) worked well for the most part, and it does have an option to put into "auto" mode so you don't have to choose. The soundbar will automatically choose what would sound the best based on what you're watching. * Because of the mids/highs, you can definitely keep up with the dialogue of what you're watching without a ton of background noise getting in the way. CONS: ----------- * The sound was acceptable after listening to it for a long time; however, if I started listening to this system after I had just listened to another system, it pales in comparison, even for lesser and other branded systems. There is a ton of treble output on this system even when I have the EQ treble turned down and the bass up. There just isn't a good happy medium that doesn't disappoint or just sound "weird" on the sound spectrum. I expected better overall sound. Having said that, once I listened to it for a while (10 minutes+), my ears got used to it, and it wasn't as bad. Let's just say, I was immersed in sound, but not as much as I would want to be. * Having nothing but colored & blinking lights on the front of a soundbar (to me) is always a "miss". There should always be and LED display on the front that shows what you're doing when you can't use the TV or app interface. It's not difficult to include an LED display with a few letters. Even at this price point, it's a miss. * This could be a CON or a PRO depending on your situation, but I believe more commonly, it would be a CON if you don't know "what" you're buying. When it is advertised as "wireless rear speakers", it's wireless; however, it's WIRED between the 2 rear speakers, and that doesn't always work out logistically in some cases. If you're going to make one speaker wireless, simply make the other one wireless. In this system setup, the LEFT rear speaker is plugged in for power, and speaker wire is run between the 2 speakers. So the right speaker does not have a power wire - just speaker wire. This means that you are limited putting the rear speakers the distance of your speaker wire and you may also have to hide the speaker wire depending on your situation. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------- * AI Sound Pro. LG claims this function will adjust your EQ in real-time based on what you're watching, but I personally did not feel anything changed from the different things I watched and listened to. * Out of the box, the unit took a firmware update which took a few minutes with no hiccups. This was done via the LG soundbar app. * The only connections are HDMI IN, eARC HDMI, and optical. There is a standard 5V/0.5amp USB connection as well. CONCLUSION: ===================== This system is not for the audiophile type. At this price point, I would expect more soundwise. The treble and dialogue really overtake the overall sound experience, and I want to have quite a bit more balance. Even after making adjustments in the app, I just wasn't able to make that happen in a way that would make me really enjoy this system to the fullest. The "wireless/wired" rear speakers was another questionable decision made - having it set up this way is really dependent of your setup at home. This might work well or it might not. I personally like to have little to no wires showing, so it may or may not be a problem for you. In the end, you have to be happy with your purchase and the features you actually paid for. In my case, this system left me wanting more and didn't have as much "immerseness" as one would like at this price point. For many, this system will be fine. Sound, after all, is unique to everyone and what they find acceptable. I already have 1 other LG soundbar from a past purchase, and it cost less and I got a better sound experience from it.

I previously owned the Nakamichi Shockwafe which cost over $700 when I bought it 8 years ago. This LG surround sound system is WAY better at a lower price. I synced it with the LG QLed tv. The sound is absolutely amazing. The sub puts out just enough bass so it's not overpowering and the rear speakers are loud. Perfect combination. You can't go wrong.

I am someone who can be very critical of poor sound, because I've always wanted to hear every little detail. Now with the advanced surround sound, we truly can get a sense of where the sound is coming from. The 2 rear speakers that are included, are game changers! The connectivity has not failed me yet and they are mounted high on the walls in the rear of the room. I will say, depending on the incoming audio signal being received from the tv to the soundbar, sometimes you won't hear everything in full stereo on the rear speakers. Sometimes it is faint background noise. Having said that, the soundbar seems to get it "right". When I'm playing Spotify on the tv, I always hear full volume in stereo for both rear speakers and this fills up the room perfectly. Other times, we're watching something like "Family Feud" and we can clearly hear Steve's voice coming from all speakers. If you are watching a movie, you will likely be getting the surround sound at the appropriate times, depending on when the Dolby ATmos or similar surround format sends the signal to the back of the room. Either way, it works and works well! The bass is great as well, but maybe could be a slight bit louder for my taste. This is very nitpicky, because the bass is still very good and does the job. Disclaimer: I love bass and put 2 - 12" subs in my KIA EV6 car. I don't have an LG tv hooked up to this, so I can't speak to the effectiveness of the WOW Orchestra system, although I'm sure it's neat. Make for certain that you get the app for this bar. There are way more options in there that are very helpful. You can flip left and right rear speakers, which I had to do, due to power source, etc. You can also choose to put more sound to the rear as well, plus so much more. We are very impressed with this bar and have no intentions of changing it.

I recently purchased this to replace current Vizio bar and subwoofer to get a better range of sound. While this has more range to fill the room, it lacks a bit of the bass I'm used to hearing. Even though the subwoofer is a bit larger than the Vizio, it did not have the deep tones of the Vizio. It took a bit of getting used to but now that I've had a chance to get used to it and played with placement and levels, I'm happy with the purchase. The LG pairs nicely with my LG TV and for the price, this is a good setup. I just wish it had more control over the sound output and a bit more bass. The presets for this limits the ability to fine tune the sound for what I personally like.

I got the LG S70TR soundbar recently, and it’s been a great upgrade. The sound is super clear, and the bass from the sub really fills the room. Watching movies with Dolby Atmos feels way more immersive, and setup was quick—especially since I have an LG TV. I love that the rear speakers are wireless too. It’s not crazy loud for huge rooms, but for my space, it’s perfect. Definitely recommend if you want theater-like sound at home.
