This was not the TV I went to get from the store. I had found a vizio online that I wanted and went to the store that said had it. Got to the store and they didn't have the vizio. The sales man showed us this TV and I was hesitant at first. I have never owned an lg TV before. But it was $200 cheaper than the vizio and had basically everything the vizio did. We have had it since march and I love it. Picture is great. We play a lot of games and watch tons of sports. Its very clear picture.

    Great TV for the price

My wife and I have been in the market for a new TV for several months now. We were actually looking at this TV before it went on sale and almost pulled the trigger on it. We decided to wait. Once it went on sale we jumped. For the price its a great TV! The picture quality is rock solid after tweaking some settings and the design of the TV is beautiful. Its not a smart TV, no extras at all. Its just a very good TV. For the $649 price that's debatable but for the $400 we bought it for its hands down the best value for the size and quality.

Not a Smart TV, but has so far been very reliable, excellent picture and ample hookups. I have a: HDTV broadcast antenna, Component Wires Cable TV, HDMI BluRay player and HDMI PS4 all hooked up! Delivery was quick and the delivery men weere courteous and respectful enough to wear booties on my light-colored carpet. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase and highly recommend it.

I must say I'm quite pleased with this purchase. Our second TV is a Smart TV, but we hardly use those functions, so this LG TV proved perfect for our uses. The picture quality is clear and the colors crisp/sharp, and the TV was extremely easy to set up. We also mounted this TV on the wall, and it looks beautiful.

Excellent tv clear picture easy to install great purchase experience. Sound is weak however and I had to add a sound bar to enable sufficient sound level and clarity's. I believe Best Buy should absorb the cost of soundbar. I used an LG Sound Bar compatable to my new LG TV?

I bought the LG 55" LED 1080P online from the BestBuy on Black Friday. When I received the TV and open the box I was very disappointed with the picture quality of this TV. I decided to return the TV from the 1st day. Although the price was reasonable and listed at $479. However, I would never recommend this TV to anyone. You rather spend more money than purchasing this TV set. In the end I had to return this TV and exchange it with Sony Bravia 60" 1080P/ 120 Hz./ 240 RX Motion Flow and paid $799. The picture quality and colors of Sony Bravia are much better than LG. The picture is clear and colors are very bright.

Went in to buy a 42'' LG we saw for $479.99. We walked in and saw a 55'' on sale for $499.99. Why not and I'm glad we saw this TV. The picture quality is great and the design is very sleek. Fits perfectly on my dresser and is a good size for a bedroom. Never bought an LG before but I don't have any regrets. Great buy!

    An Honest Review

    Posted .

Ok. For credibility, I have this hooked up side by side with my LG60LA7400.(A much higher end LG) which I have absolutely loved for the past year. You can google the differences between the two.I wanted to test the tv before gifting it to my father for Christmas. I could not be more impressed. After hours of driving my wife crazy I have this tv looking 99 percent identical to the LA7400. Contrast and colors are outstanding. The only time I see a difference in black levels are when the screen goes completely blank. The LA has the Local dimming. At first, considering they were both LG, I just mimicked the settings of my LA7400 which made the 55LB5550 look HORRIBLE. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I actually boxed it back up for return. The next day I felt maybe there was something I missed so back out again. Here is what I found: Backlight at 50% on the LA7400 = 72% on the LB5550. Black level at "LOW" on the LA7400 = Black level "HIGH" on the LB5550. Color at 60 on the LA7400 = 55 on the LB5550. Anyway, I almost gave it a bad review until I figured out certain things like that. Now on to motionflow, refresh rate, motion blur. What ever you want to call it. This is subjective. For not having any motionflow adjustment like the LA7400 this tv does pretty darn good in my opinion. Most of what I see is due to the program material not the tv. That being said you will not get that super smoothing effect and you should not expect to at this price point. The panel is pretty reflective with I personally like. It has excellent depth perception and a crystal clear image compared to some with antireflective coatings or semimat screens. I would like to offer my settings to anyone interested in trying them. Picture :Expert1, Backlight 72 ,Contrast 100, Brightness 50, Sharpness 20, Color 55, Tint 0. Expert control Dynamic Contrast=low, Color gamut wide, Edge Enhancer On, Color Filter off, Gama 2.2. Color Temperature Medium/2 points/outer/high/0/0/0. Color Management System Color red-saturation +2. No other changes Picture options: Noise reduction=Off MPEG Noise Reduction=Off Black Level=High Aspect ratio=Just Scan Adjust all to taste lol. I hope this helps someone. I am open to comments or questions. Thank you

Great HD for a Great Price

We purchased this TV to replace our 8yr old 42" LG Plasma that died due to an all-to-common problem of overheating circuit boards. We always had a great picture and sound with the plasma, but this one kicks it up a notch - greater color intensity, a more intense and varied color palette, and fantastic picture quality - all without the heat issues since its LED. Minor tweaks in contrast, brightness, color, etc. and we quickly had it tuned exactly to our needs regarding ambient lighting and personal preferences, and the picture looks AMAZING! This set isn't used for gaming so weren't concerned that there are faster refresh rates available on other sets, but have noticed zero instances of motion "blur". The speakers are capable of providing a very loud sound range, and are incredibly crisp, so much so we're putting off the purchase of a sound bar/home theater sound system until a later date. We considered getting an LED TV during the black Friday deals, but our old set was sailing along fine back then. Not sure if there was a better deal available on this set back then, but at $500 (now) we couldn't pass it up. This is a really nice TV, especially for the price. Long term - we can't be sure how it will perform, but after getting many years out of our last LG we're hoping this one will last too. However, we also purchased the full replacement warranty just in case - its cheap insurance in case anything does go wrong.

    Excellent Quality for the Price

    Posted .

Let me start by saying I bought this television as a gift for someone who was replacing an 11 year old DLP tv, and therefore I am not comparing this item to any of the higher level LEDs out there. However, as this was a gift I will say this was probably one of the best deals of the season (cost just over $430 with tax after using a mover's coupon) and the recipient could not be happier with it. The picture quality is excellent (which 1080p should be) when watching any type of external media (DVD,BD, Netflix, etc.) and with the standard HD coming from the HD box the picture quality is as good as one could expect. Of course with this tv being at only 60hz you would expect some ghosting and blurriness when watching fast moving pictures (football especially) but I haven't heard any complaints from the recipient and he has been enjoying football games since Christmas. All in all, I think this was a very good buy and as long at it holds up I don't think there will be any real complaints.

    Big Screen, Great Picture

Excellent color and contrast, though just a smidgen of shade in the deepest recesses of the corners. But with the scan rate, and bright, sharp image, the Superbowl was an outstanding experience, along with everything else we watch. The audio is good, but our home theater sound makes it perfect. I'm just glad the sound system we already own has an input for fiber optic cable, because that is the only audio output from this set. This TV doesn't have a VGA input for the computer, but it was a simple solution of just adapting the computer's DVI output to an HDMI cable and inputting it that way. This, by the way, resurrected an older CPU, which now outputs proper format, which it wouldn't do on an older HDTV using a VGA input. This 55" LG unit has a coax connection, 2-HDMI ports, and a set of RCA jack inputs. The RCA connections are for a video composite setup that shares some jacks with standard RCA video inputs, which is a little confusing until you understand its an either/or deal, letting your DVD player hook up with either method. It doesn't have Smart TV, so we didn't have to pay extra for that feature, but we're planning to get a Blu-Ray with WiFi anyway, so that isn't an issue. All in all, we're very happy with this HDTV and bought LG with the expectation that it'll last a long time due to their reputation. Great set at a reasonable price!

    Decent TV

    Posted .

Bought this TV to replace our 46" Insignia that we've been very happy with for the past 6 years, but it started to get black wavy lines.. not too noticeable, but my husband insisted it's why we needed to get a new TV lol Upgraded to this 55" and I'm happy with it so far. Unless you're an AV aficionado, this TV should do you just fine. There are different settings for the picture, but you can also play around with the brightness, contrast, etc. I'm too lazy to do all that so I just set it on Standard and everything is all good. I only have some minor issues. 1.No center base. My old TV had it's base in the center, and it could swivel. This TV is help up by two leg brackets, I guess you could call it, which is making it hard to find a decent tv bench because I need one that's at least 49 inches long or else the TV won't be able to stand since each bracket is screwed in on the left and right edges. 2. There are only one set of AV input things (sorry I'm so not a technical person). On my old TV I had the AV from my uverse box and my 360 plugged in.. but this LG only has 3 thingamabobs so I can't hook up my 360. THank goodness the XB1 just needs the hdmi cable or else I would be lugging this thing back to best buy. Those are my only issues. I'm still on the hunt for a tv bench / console that's affordable. All the tv stands that accommodate this TV are in the hundreds...and I need one under a hundred haha. Bottom line is that it's good for its size and price. I've played Call of Duty on it and the gaming is what it should be.. no lag, no blurry picture quality. As long as my gaming isn't messed with, I'm a happy camper :)

Great TV for what I need and all you really need

    |
    Posted .

The LG is perfect for watching Anything and Video games. All these new specs with 240hz or 480 is really a marketing ploy to get you to spend more money. If you are in The market for a TV go for the anything 1080p and 60 Hertz is fine if you want, 120 hertz is all you need at most. Think about this all signals are mostly 720p, some channels can output 1080p but not much. All movies are shot at 60 FPS new movies are filmed on 4k but you really can't tell the difference unless you have a 4K TV which TV stations are not ready for to output. If you want to spend money on a 4k your image at home won't look as good with regularly HD signal the TV will have to upconvert... Think about this... why do retail stores show tv's at vivid modes and only 4k signals on the 4k TV what you want to do is ask for regular signal hd to the TV before you buy and you will see what the real pic looks like. I still have my pioneer elite Kuro and is still better than current TV's. The LG is perfect for my bedroom. My advice is to keep it simple don't buy into the 240 hz it just makes things look fake or soap opera-ish. The LG is all you need

Great picture, sleek design, but no extras

    Posted .

This 55" LG TV has a sleek design and the picture is great, however there are no extras. 1. Base doesn't swivel. Not a deal breaker for us since our TV stand is very long. 2. This is NOT a smart TV! It has zero extras.. no apps, no netflix, no hulu plus, nothing. All you get is a TV. For the price, it's still an amazing deal, and you can buy a bluray player with all of those movie apps etc for under a hundred. Not a deal breaker for us. 3. 2 HDMI input + 1 Composite input , but the only option for audio output is Toslink Digital Audio Out. I realize that these options are the future, but backwards compatibility sucks. What this means is if you have an old receiver like what we did, you'll either have to replace your receiver OR get a Toslink Digital Input to Analog Output converter. Stores sell these for twenty five bucks, so that is the route we went. We hooked up the AT&T Uverse set top box to HDMI 1, and our bluray player w/netflix etc. to HDMI 2. We then output from the TV's digital audio out to the analog converter (red/white cords) to our equalizer, and from the equalizer to our receiver. This way we can control our Yamaha sound system's tuner (separate device altogether) AND anything play on the TV through our equalizer.

Excellent screen, little to no features

    Posted .

I knew what I was getting into. I went into the store Black Friday looking for the best picture (performance) per price ratio . This TV is only 60Hz, it has only 2 HDMI inputs, and the only audio output is Digital Optical. One of the HDMI and the component inputs could be difficult to use if using a low profiled wall mount. I am using a low profile mount, and I was able to use all those ports with no issues. Despite the lack of ports and features; the picture is STUNNING! At 60Hz or Motion Clarity 120, it doesn't sound impressive, but it works. Football looks great, other sports look crisp and clear, no motion blurring. I'm not a huge action movie buff but the kids threw on Transformers, action scenes looked clear, no blurring. The bezel is really thin and sharp looking. This is a great 55" 1080p screen for the price. If you need features, this TV isn't for you.
