In our first year we had to have it repaired. And naturally less than 3 weeks after our 2 yr. extended warranty expires it completely goes out. We use to own nothing but LG. but over the last few years they have gone down hill greatly.

This thing is garbage! I have owned this for a little over two years now now the TV randomly turns on by itself as well as the volume cranking up to 100% and will not turn down. I tried replacing the remote, did a full factory reset as well as manually turning off volume and connecting a sound system ( which works ) but this does not explain why it keeps turning on by itself? Ended up moving this out of the man cave into a room that we barely use so needless to say this is a heavy paperweight. I will never go back to an LG product again because of this. Samsung is by far is the best for quality and life of products.

I bought this tv in replacement of a phenomenal Samsung plasma that worked amazing. I have an LG so I thought with what I came with and the cost the tv would be better. Nope nope nope this tv was disappointing and to say the least, took it back and got a real tv from Samsung.

Audio problems, then picture problems within first two days of purchase. Geek squad good about getting a replacement although it took over a week. They said picture and sound on same circuit. Be aware you may need to return this set.

Fix for most annoying issue plus other comments

After spending a week with the TV and emailing with LG I decided to keep the TV. A week ago I would have rated this TV 2 stars. Time will tell If I made a good decision as I feel it is a great value after solving the annoying issues. Now I give it a 4 star. FIX: I am sure others have this problem. You get no sound for any HDMI device. For steaming the sound works just fine even if the HDMI sound is not working. if you unplug the TV and plug it back in the sound is fine. Having to unplug the TV was one unacceptable issue to me. To SOLVE this issue turn off Quick start + In the General settings menu. This makes the TV perform a power off and resets the sound when turned on. This TV boots plenty fast for me so in a way with no standby I am using less power and solving a big issue. OK so the TV takes 6 seconds to boot. I have done much research on other TV's and apparently they have similar issues so a "cold" boot may help other makes as well. Minor issue with my interface to the comcast cable Box. May be a problem with any HDMI device I just only have seen it with my comcast cable box as I use that 90% of the time when not streaming. When I turn the TV on the picture keeps blinking on/off. I have to turn the TV on/off once or twice and then its fine and solidly OK. Not sure if I have had the problem with Quick Start + off yet. I had issues with my DD5.1 over the optical output. When the TV is set to PCM and my receiver is on DD Prologic II I get great 5 channel sound better than even when the DD5.1 is working well. Again I am now satisfied as long as I take the sound setting off of AUTO and force PCM as the selection. Here is the comment from LG: "Yes you are right that setting the sound out to PCM will help since you using optical cable. Auto digital sound out only applicable for HDMI (ARC) connection for getting Dolby digital 5.1 channel. " They need to fix the sound menu. Again I can live with this. The Picture especially set up in the HDR effect gives a stunning picture both in my very bright room during the day as well as at night. The black level is quite good. Thus I gave this TV a 4 star lost 1 star for the annoying problems.

First of, I am a big fan of LG products in general. But this TV Left me very disappointed. Any time I watch a movie with the black bars above and below the movie. Those bars are painfully bright. It's very annoying.

    Picture settings need adjusting

This is my first day with the tv. At first I was disappointed in the picture but I recalled reading about this model on lg.com. There they had a link to a Consumer Reports article on the model. In it they gave the settings they found that gave the best picture. After making the setting changes they recommended, the picture is excellent. Only change I made is I chose vivid instead of "dark room." You'll see what I'm talking about and make your own decision. Here is what CR said: OPTIMIZED PICTURE SETTINGS. Our expert TV testers recommend the following settings for the LG 65SJ8500 to get your image looking like the rated picture quality we saw in our lab. To access the picture controls find the Menu, Home, Settings, or “Gear” icon on your remote or on-screen display, and navigate to the picture settings menu where you’ll see most of the controls. To find some other controls you may additionally have to enter the “advanced settings” or the “picture options” sub-menus (name may vary depending on model). Don’t worry about making any “mistakes.” You can always reset the picture settings to factory default if necessary. Consult your user manual for additional guidance. PICTURE SETTINGS. Picture Mode: Expert (Dark Room) [I chose vivid] Contrast: 95 Brightness: 50 Gamma: BT.1886 Color: 56 Tint: R11 Sharpness: H: 0, V: 0 Color Temperature: Warm 2 Backlight: 70 Color Gamut: Auto Black Level: Low Real Cinema: On LED Local Dimming: High TruMotion: User (De-Blur: 10) All other settings should be set to “off” or zero “0”. Any individual R,G, or B color subcontrols, if present, should remain at their default settings.

    Excellent Out the Box

This is my first time writing a review on Best Buy's site, but I felt compelled to do so, to express how great this tv is out of the box. I was comparing this LG with the Sony XBR65X900E model but that one was running $400 more at $1799, while the LG was only $1399. I also bought the Apple TV 4K (5th generation) to couple with the tv and the picture (Dolby Vision) and sound quality is amazing. This tv offers a feature under "General" settings that's called "HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color" and it basically syncs with the apple tv to enable the dolby vision quality; great picture! Please note that if you are a Netflix user you'll need to subscribe to the "ULTRA HD" package to stream this content via your apple tv. It was easy to setup tv and make connections with my receiver and apple tv. Great buy!

I recently purchased this TV to replace my Sony XBR65X850C, and I am blown away. The colors are spectacular, motion handling is great for video games and sports. The added bonus of supporting all HDR formats is nice too, since I don't want to be left feeling like I am missing out on better versions of content that I love. Side by side next to a QLED TV you can see that it is almost identical. Black levels are a little better on the QLED but the viewing angles are much better on the Super UHD TV. You will not be disappointed with this TV.

    Amazing TV w/minor stuff

I actually was shopping for a cheaper tv, but wanted 4k. At the time, I hadn’t realized how important HDR is. They had this on sale and open box. I was able to get it for just a bit more than the lesser grade. I am very happy. Would love OLED, but that is well outside of my budget. So, the picture is incredible. Best I have had. The color saturation on this set is unreal. You get these lucious, plush, yet still sharp images that are very satisfying. On the downside, no, the blacks are not black. Sometimes this is a bigger issue than others. Some tinkering can reduce the irritation, but it is a limitation of the set. Also, they could have given one more HDMI input and given more sound options. I’m reaching a bit in an attempt to give some balance. The bonus on this set is 3D. It is implemented marvelously. No headaches and it is as good as IMAX 3D, no joke. The glasses are passive so no batteries required. Selection slim, but a Disney movie about a Hawaiian girl is a sight to behold. The TV also has a very nice design. It really is a very sleek modern look. Small, but worth mention. If the black level issue scares you off, I’d suggest giving this set a try, knowing that BestBuy has a return policy in place for just such situation. This is a wonderful TV and if you buy it to try it, I bet most of you will keep it. Remember 3D is disappearing on TVs but films are still being released. I love my LG 8500. I’d love the OLED. If LG wants a product tester or reviewer, my services are available. [This is a brief summary of review bereft of tech.] I used to play test for Microsoft in the early days of the XBOX, so I know how to test and review. In conclusion, I am extremely happy with this TV. I don’t believe anything in thIs price range comes even close to matching this TV in quality.

I was planning on purchasing another brand of TV when I went in to the store but after seeing the screen and how good it looked, I changed my mind. Although this was a bit more expensive by $250, what really sold me was the menu options and how easy it was to use. It was much more user friendly than the other brand and easier to set up. I only have one complaint and that is with the integrated Sling and Amazon TV Apps...They continue to 'refresh' and there is a lag time that distorts the picture. I have tried everything and we have the fastest internet speed, so I don't know why its doing this. I hooked up an Amazon Fire box to the TV and it took care of any/all issues, but I would rather not have to have another component hooked up.

Ive never written a review on any product but felt compelled to do so after reading reviews pertaining to picture quality... specifically the picture not POPPING like it does in stores. TO keep this short, after playing with settings and tweaking brightness and contrast etc... I finally found the solution. Set the picture to VIVID using all factory defaults and TURN OFF POWER SAVER MODE. Once I turned it off the picture POPPED and looked the way I was expecting. WIth power saver ON the qwuality is 2/5 stars. With POWER SAVER OFF....5/5. Hope this helps!

    GOOD TV

It's good TV but few things keeping it from being excellent TV. First of all it has good remote but it doesn't control everything as advertised. My eight yrs old vizio tv remote can control my roku 3 but not LG magic remote. Secondly i know today why Samsung is top notch player. I hooked up my roku to it and it automatically recognized it as roku with their original logo on my home screen and so do xfinity original logo instead of inputs. Samsung remote does control everything including my shield android TV console. I don't mind setting it up but no options to control media boxes on LG TV. One main gripe is Sling tv app lagging. DON'T BUY IT FOR SLING TV. It's painfully slow and lagging even though my internet speed is over 100mb. I am watching my sling tv on roku again. So LG plz update your software to make this good tv into GREAT TV. I returned samsung 4k tv to buy LG cuz of remote having numeric keys for cable channels switching and I am keeping it hopping it will updated. As far as picture quality...it's excellent

Everything is good, except the sound

I like everything about this TV, but the sound system. The best part of it, relative to other TVs, is the WebOS and the magic remote controller that works like a combination of a laser pointer and a computer mouse. I love it! But, the sound system is poor. The problem is not the volume, but the balance. The sound is great for music, but when it comes to movies, the vocals are very fade and hard to hear. Except this problem, the rest is perfect for the price.
