SO happy with this 4K TV!!!

    |
    Posted .

Let me start off by saying that I spent weeks researching which TV I wanted to purchase that was affordable, yet had an outstanding viewing experience and great features. This obviously isn't an OLED TV, but man, this TV does not fall far behind. I think this TV is absolutely outstanding and I am so happy with my purchase. I was fortunate enough to buy this 65" 4K TV while it was on sale, & I am not disappointed with it at all. I was having issues at first with the brightness on the screen because it was so dim and was hard to see, but I figured out that there was an energy saving setting turned on and once I turned it off, it was incredible. It was so much more beautiful, defined, and brighter. I was contemplating on returning the TV if there wasn't anyway for me to change the low brightness and dim lighting, but now that I turned off that setting, this TV isn't going anywhere! I am beyond pleased with the graphics, quality, & even the sound. I think it has fantastic speakers for just a TV alone. This is my first SmartTV so I don't have anything to compare it with, but I absolutely love the webOS software. It is very versatile & is very fun to play around with. I like that I can go from being on the internet, to watching Hulu, to watching DIRECTV straight from my TV, without having to connect an external device. It is so easy to navigate. I also love the magic remote that it comes with. Overall, I am in love with my new TV & it is superb for the price. If you are looking for an affordable TV with amazing graphics & a lot of features, this is the TV for you. I am extremely picky & it was so frustrating to find the right TV to please my expectations, but I am so thankful I chose this one. ☻

This is why you should buy this TV

    - The magic remote works kind of like a laser pointer, you can point it at your TV and waive it around like a Wii remote and a little cursor will appear for you to click on things, it's awesome! - The smart tv interface is very nicely designed and easy to use. - Of course the picture (4K HDR) looks great. Also I chose this tv bc it has a tiny bezel. The buttons are hidden on the bottom under the logo. - the sound on this tv is excellent. We got a $500 JBL Cinema 450 soundbar and we still will switch sound between our tv and the soundbar based on what we're watching bc the TV's sound is so good. - It has 4 HDMI ports and one of them has ARC for the soundbar. Cons: I really can't think of any cons off the top of my head. I've owned this TV for a few weeks now.

Returned it - not black, bands

    |
    Posted .

I do not recommend this specific model--I returned it and picked up the Sony 850e series. The LG j7700 was an incredible deal, but the blacks were dark blue, it had odd banding (4 separate colors of "blue/black" on a black screen), and had a general washed out look. SOOO disappointed. But the Sony 850e was the opposite (even though more expensive--I didn't pay "enough" the first time, The Sony was what I expected--the LG was not). And I have an existing LG 55" upstairs--but the LG j7700 was not like this. I do not recommend.

Local dimming was a deal breaker for me!!!

    |
    Posted .

This LG TV seemed like it would be a great product, except the local dimming turns off whole vertical rows during dimming. If you watch anything with horizontal black bars, they will be different shades of black/gray and are very distracting. Reddit suggests turning local dimming off. I took mine back. One picture is local dimming on the other is off, notice the changes in gray vertically. It's worse in person.

    Do Not Buy

Purchased the TV when on sale hoping that it would be a decent mid level television. After using the TV there was noticeable issues with the local dimming feature as well as the tones of the blacks on the screen. The T.V. showed decent color and brightness as long as you were not watching anything even a little dark or anything that has borders on it like some movies. After a few hours of use I noticed the T.V. was getting really hot on the entire bottom of the television and the screen was starting to show grey in spots on the black screen as if light spots were showing all over it. Also when turning the T.V. on only about 2/3 of the screen was black and the rest was grey.

I picked this up and it had decent reviews--but the blacks were all washed out and it even had bands across the panel. I returned it for a Sony--costs more, but massive difference. Photos attached showing the bands

    Outstanding picture for the money

    |
    Posted .

Unless one wants to spend multiple thousands of dollars more for an OLED display I would suggest this LG is well worth the money. I was about to buy another brand when the salesman told me that this was the lowest cost TV that had true HDR. While 4K is relatively early in it's roll out, I wanted to be ready for the new content as it becomes available. One thing I learned the hard way is one needs to pay attention to their input source. We had a lightning strike and it also took out our satellite receiver and the tech who installed the new HD receiver forgot to turn on the HD on the satellite receiver. Watching football games or high motion the movement content was making me sick....it was terrible. But this was not the LG TV's issue...it was the input not being set right at the source. Once I fixed this the picture during games and high motion are awesome. The only drawback on this TV for the price (non-oled) is that the black level is not consistent over the screen in a dark room. This is really only noticeable when the whole screen is black or mostly black. For example when the credits are scrolling at the end of a movie. Overall I would give this a big thumbs up for the price point.

    Really nice TV

I bought this with a Best Buy price match. I give 5 stars to Best Buy. I give 4 stars to this TV because it is a great set. The magic remote is, well, magical. Point at the screen, cursor comes on, and you press a button. Magic. The numerous channel plus channels, a robust webOS 3.5 with all the big subscriber apps, and myriad picture/channel settings makes this television a great buy. My only complaint, and it's a medium-sized one, is the vertical banding from LED backlighting you get in this set. You get it on a lot of sets, from different bands, too. So I'm not sweating those bands too much. But when I'm watching a UHD/HDR/Dolby Vision movie, and it pans a sky, or large area of grass, or monochrome graphics, you'll likely notice those bands. I love this set, except for that.

    Good Value, takes some work

I took a hard look at this TV given the sale price of under $1000. It looked incredible in the showroom (of course) and I took the plunge. When I got it hung on the wall I was initially filled with buyer's remorse, it did not look as good as I thought it should. Turns out the leap from HD to UHD is not as dramatic as the one from SD to HD. The default settings on the set were way off, no one would watch it the way it was set up, way too dark. Turned off power saver and the local dimming, turned off a bunch of other stuff as recommended by www.rtings,com and the picture started to fall into the range of what I was expecting. There are a lot of picture modes but I like "Vivid" the best, and football using the "Sports" mode is incredible. I upgraded my Netflix to UHD but I still don't see that much difference between HD and UHD. I should mention that I moved up from 55" to 65" so some of the resolution perception may be impacted by the size change. It took a few days to get used to it and I will admit that the picture is better than my old HD set. Just don't expect to be wowed at every turn like I did.

    Lightning fast gaming tv

There are a lot of reasons not to get this television. If you're looking for the best local dimming or you care about moire artifacts or some other such geekspeak statisitics... this isn't going to be the tv for you.. However, if you're looking for THE absolute lowest hdmi input lag on a 4k television, this is it. If you're playing games where twitch speed is the thin line between quick and dead, accept no substitute. You'll want to disable power saving right away -- For the first few hours the screen was painfully dark. Some people like motion smoothing, I hate it -- it turns off easily enough. I don't care what the AV squad has to say about it, the image quality is good for movies. I mean... It's still 4k. Is it the fanciest? no. Would I be able to tell the difference? Also no. That's my experience -- your mileage may vary. I's up to you to decide what your television priorities are.

AWESOME TV - VERY USER FRIENDLY

    Posted .

We had mistakenly bought another brand tv, but quickly went back & exchanged it for this LG tv. We purchased this tv in a 42" about 1 year or so ago & we enjoyed that one so much, but now we wanted a larger screen tv (65 inch), so we decided on the other brand tv, when we got it home, it was terrible especially for a major name brand tv, the picture was milky & fuzzy, needless to say we took it right back to the store & realized that they had our LG in a bigger screen (the 65" tv that we were looking for). Well, needless to say we jumped on it, because it was $700.00 off, plus we knew from our other LG that it HAD to be an AWESOME picture quality like our 42" LG. We had it delivered & plugged it in, WOW and I mean WOW, what an AWESOME TV all round. The picture quality is AWESOME, the setup, was so EASY, there are so many different picture things to get into if you want to FINE TUNE the picture. The sound is GREAT especially for not having any speakers hooked up to it. You can't go wrong with this TV, its CLEAR, CRISP, AWESOME in every way, the BLACKS are DARK BLACK, the WHITES are BRIGHT WHITE, the colors are so VIVID (note: make sure you TURN OFF the energy saving, because that will effect the VIVIDNESS & BRIGHTNESS of your tv if you don't turn it off). We are so glad that we found the LG in the larger screen. The quality & picture quality of this tv is AWESOME and close to the look of the OLED, for less than half the money of the OLED. The price is great too, we bought ours for $943.00 + tax (on sale) marked down from $1700.00. The reason for sale price is the new 2018 TV's are coming in soon. This is a great price for such an AWESOME TV, you won't be sorry. Happy viewing!

    Nice picture

Picture: no issues, looks pretty good, DVDs upscale and look fine (obviously this depends on the DVD's original quality), Blu Ray videos look great (I don't own 4K movies so I can't comment). The LED local dimming seems to operate in vertical bands, not obvious at all during any movies I've watched, but if you go to a black screen and turn on the remote pointer and move it around the screen you can see the vertical bands turning on and off to back light the pointer; I'm not sure if this is standard for all local dimming TVs, but it looks funny and annoying in this scenario (again not a problem when watching video). Smart Functions: TV often fails to connect to wireless when turning on. It seems like things work okay if I wait (sometimes several minutes) before launching apps. If I launch the built in Amazon app before it is connected to the wireless it seems like the app will NEVER launch. I have found two ways to get the Amazon app to work again: 1) restore to factory settings and reinstall and setup everything again (quite annoying) 2) one time I unplugged the TV for about 30 seconds and then restarted and it seemed to work (I haven't tested all variables yet, but this hasn't worked every time). I've had this TV for about 2 weeks, count on problems if you expect to use this as a smart TV. Physical Setup: the instructions appear to have you lay the TV (on the front screen) on the cardboard box it is shipped in to install the stand legs, interestingly however it shows to not wrap your fingers around the front as you do this. I'm not sure how they expect you to carry the load of the TV as you lower it into this position without having any features to hold... seems like handles our something should be provided for moving the TV if you can't touch the front at all. Best Buy Sales Force: apparently Best Buy is not equipped to actually demonstrate their televisions. They were unable to demonstrate Smart Functions, unable to play video beyond what looked like an LG demo, and unable to connect a DVD player (they said they don't have one, seems strange in a store that sells DVD players and DVDs). They told me I had to buy it to actually see any features, and that I could return it within 15 days if I don't like it: in my opinion, this is ridiculous. My 4 star review is not 5 because of the problems with the Smart Functions as described above. I would give the picture quality a 5 for this price range of TV.

I felt like I needed to upgrade from my 60in ultra 4K HD LG tv. So I researched HDR and when I went to see it in person I had to have it. The difference in price is definitely worth it and the picture is fantastic!! I love my 65in LG 4K HD w/ HDR tv more than my gf AND my dog!!!

Bought this as a birthday present to myself to upgrade from our previous 55". Barely takes up anymore room because of the tiny bezel but has a noticeably larger screen and better quality. Amazing that it weighs substantially less than the tv it replaced and uses less energy. Not currently using the smart TV functionality so I can't comment on that since we have it hooked up to an XBox but everything else is great

About three models behind, but still great

I'd say this tv is something in between the best and the cheapest model. If you have the money to purchase an oled tv, you should go for it. But if your budget is in the price range of this tv, you should definitely purchase it. Between Sony and Samsung, Lg's operating system webOS, has a more friendly design, in my opinion. Which is why I choose this over the ither brands.
