Great other than not getting 4k playback
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to use it to play 4k on your PC, be sure to check out the compatibility listed on the cyberlink website. Not only am I considered a technical person but my PC is 6 months old and I could not get 4k playback. Im running Win 11 and all my drivers are up to date. I even updated the Cyberlink to the newest version. Only very few motherboards are supported, and you must have an Intel Video card to enable Intel SGX. I have an NVIDIA video card and even looked through my BIOS to see if Intel SGX was an option and it wasnt. So if you have an AMD or NVIDIA video card, forget it. (I will note I did not test out 4k to my TV) Minus the whole 4k issue, I was able to play regular bluray movies, and do what I bought this specifically for, rip audio cds to my computer, as well as play old cd/dvd rom games. This does come with a program that will tell you if your computer is compatible with 4k/3D/Bluray playback which i thought was nice! It also comes with an older version of a media player/burning program. Ultimately, this 4k burner is more expensive than the regular LG Bluray burner and I couldnt get 4k playback, so I returned this and purchased the regular LG Bluray Burner.

Good drive for burnign/playing Blu-ray discs
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive performed as expected for playing Blu-ray discs and for burning video data to it. It will also burn/play DVDs. It took about 20 minutes to burn 7 GB to a BD-R disc, which is not bad if you don't do a lot of burning. Burning a video to DVD or Blu-ray discs provides a data disk, which does not have the play back features of a Blu-ray or DVD movie that you purchase, so some play back features are not available. My AV system Blu-ray player does support playing data discs but some players might not. The connection cable provided has two connectors that connect to your computer: one for data and one for power supply. This could be an issue if you are short on USB ports. The LG manual provided on the CyberLink disc was for an earlier product version that had a separate power supply that plugged into an electrical outlet. The paper manual provided did fit the actual LG drive that I purchased. The CyberLink Media Suite software disc that comes as part of the purchase is useful if you don't already have the software needed for burning and playing Blu-ray discs using Windows 10. The only part of this media suite that you need for burning and playback is the Power2Go program. The software is fully functional for 30 days, after which only the most basic functions will work. This is good in that it lets you try out the software before deciding to purchase. I had a previous version of Power2Go, so I was able to upgrade for about $35. The Media Suite software disc is basically a vehicle for selling you software. You will get upgrade notices every time you use the program, which you can ignore if you don't want them. I had done a lot of searching for alternative software but I didn't find anything that had favorable reviews or that was from a safe source for downloading. One so-called free program available from Microsoft's store had a lot of negative reviews including one that pointed out that it was not really free, which probably meant that you would have to purchase after a free trial period. I usually have no problem downl loading and installing software but I had difficulty doing so for the y of Power2Go upgrade. For using Power2Go for burning, I discovered that I could just copy and paste the video file from my computer to the LG drive using File Explorer, though Power2Go provides more options for finishing the disc. I hope that community will share their exerpiences with software for this LG drive. All-in-all, the drive itself appears to function well but I just wish that there were better software available.

Plug & play to burn Blu-ray discs
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent burner and player. Needed a drive capable of turning Blu-Ray discs and this filled the bill. works well, small, compact, lightweight, priced right and is plug and play. Only needed Blu-Ray software which I already had. Worth Considering
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice external blu-ray player. If you need a disc drive for your computer this one is worth considering. I’m currently using it with my MacBook Pro and I have no complaints. It was priced at ~$100 when I got it which is reasonable for a good BD burner. I can’t speak to how well it works to burn DVDs but otherwise happy with this purchase.

Doesn't play 4K UHD without paid software!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For those of us who still need an external dvd drive / writer, I recommend this New Upgrade from their previous DVD Writer and basic Blu-Ray reader/writer. However, the 4k UHD feature is void if you don't purchase the proper update software. The Cyberlink software that is included is ONLY a trial version. Back in the day when you purchased a unit like this, the FULL VERSION software was included. My How things have changed...LOL. Oh, btw, don't expect tech support from LG. Thank the Stars for Best Buy Total Tech Support...LOL.

Worth the extra investment.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried a couple of sub-$25 units and both had real problems with some DVDs, and one of them NEVER successfully a disc! This one was more expensive, but it actually works. I wish I'd gotten this one first. I think the tray is a bit flimsy, and if you're not careful you can get a disk cockeyed which makes if refuse to mount, but I got over that hump -- just pay attention when inserting a disc,

Good But Not Excellent
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would have been 5 stars if not for these 2 caveats. 1. This drive comes with the “TV Connectivity” feature. When it is connected to a smart TV, the picture and video files on a disc can be shown and played on the TV. However the filesystem of a Blu Ray or DVD movie disc does not consist of video files. So such a disc can’t be played on a smart TV. 2. Bundled Cyberlink PowerDVD app will play regular Blu Ray discs but not UHD Blu Ray ones due to Intel deprecating SGX in 11th and 12th generations of Core processors. So the only way to play a UHD Blu Ray disc is to rip its contents to a file first. This isn’t LG’s fault. But somewhere in the product description this should have been stated. If I had known this beforehand, I would have opted to buy LG’s regular Blu Ray drive instead. BTW if you have an older PC, PowerDVD may still play UHD Blu Ray discs.

LG-6x External Disc Drive BP60NB10: Product Review
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was purchased as laptops are no longer manufactured with optical disc drives. I have an extensive collection of DVDs (i.e. Blu Ray HD, Blu Ray UHD and DVDs) and CDs. This product will play all of these types of DVDs as well as CDs, however, compatible hardware is required for this drive to read the Blu Ray UHD (4K) discs. A laptop or a screen with 4K resolution is necessary to add this capability. The software included with this reader will inform the user if and why specific types of discs can or cannot be read. Overall, this device is very easy to use with the included software. It is recommended to check the manufacturer's specifications to ensure that the reader is compatible with your hardware and operating system. I am running the reader with Windows 11 Home.

Ultra HD External Computer Disk Drive
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disappointed, Will not play Ultra HD disks on my recent gaming laptop, and the requirements for this are too complex at least for Me The software bundle that is in-concluded is not up to date Most likely a cost upgrade

So far so good. Could use a longer cord though.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works as advertised; use it burn purchased optical discs to my movie server. Only problem is the length of the cord. A bit short and in fact I have to lay the drive on top of my tower when in use. But works like a champ!

Fast, capable UDH compatible blu ray player/burner
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think this is a good drive. It is fast, works on both windows and mac computers, and the usb interface works well. The one caveat to know is if you are planning to buy this to play UHD (4K) movies on a PC, you need to check the requirements for UHD playback on PCs. They are very extensive and listed here: https://www.cyberlink.com/support/faq-content.do?id=19860 Bottom line: the drive can play those disks but your PC probably won't unless it is very high end and recently built.

LG BluRay burner
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This drive / burner seems to work fine. My purpose in buying it was to burn BluRay data discs, to provide archival storage for photographs. I was not able to successfully burn a BD-R using the supplied software. Caveat- I did not contact that software's technical support. I downloaded another software package. I had issues with the current version, but I was able to download an older version and that works fine.

Play Blu-Ray movies on your laptop with this
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this drive to compensate the lack of an optical drive for a laptop that I recently purchased. Plugged it in the USB and the laptop immediately recognized it. Installed the software it came with and I was playing Blu-Ray movies from it in no time.

Worked Great
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG 6x External Blu-ray Disc worked great for me used it to read my 35 3d blue rays with an mkv program and then created 3d files with another program to use side by side on my Occulus Quest 2. It also came with a program that I can play my blue rays on the computer if needed.

Good looking and quality player
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This slim, sleek looking player will not only play blu rays, but 4kuhd blurays as well. It comes with software to set it up and play all the formats you want. You might have to tinker with the software a little bit by downloading another driver for full 4k uhd support, but that's easy enough. If you want to play 4kuhd, then you will need an Intel chip at the moment since AMD does not pay for that function form Intel yet. It runs very quietly, the only sound is on the initial startup when loading a disc,. then it is silent.

Misleading Image; Needs 4K Clarification
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I jump in, I've worked in IT and the video/audio industry for years now. This includes everything from building custom PC builds, servers, to setting up home theaters, auditoriums and stages. With that being said here's my experience and I hope it helps others: This external drive can play DVDs and regular Blu-ray discs. I tested several without any issues. If you're buying it for that then you "shouldn't have issues." Apparently it can also play 4K Blu-ray discs as advertised according to some other customers.*** However in my particular case I was only able to play DVDs and regular Blu-ray discs. I was not able to run the installation software CD that came with the external drive. It's an old OEM CyberLink software. It kept giving errors and crashing. I ended up purchasing the newest CyberLink PowerDVD 20 Ultra software which allows and supports 4K Blu-ray media on players such as this for both Windows and MacOS. After installing the new version of CyberLink PowerDVD 20 Ultra and checking the player drive for updated drivers I was still not able to play 4K Blu-ray discs. FYI I also have all the latest Windows 10 Pro operating system updates along with the system drivers. There are several requirements that you will need to run 4K Blu-ray playback and that I understand. However with a fairly new and mid-range laptop, and here are the specifications: Operating System: Windows 10 Pro Processor: Intel i7 9750H Memory: 32GB Hard Drive: 1TB SSD Video Card: Intel HD 630/ Nvidia 2060 RTX I still wasn't able to achieve 4K Blu-ray playback. I mention the specifications because they're important to the next issue. Even with updated drivers for the integrated and dedicated video cards and motherboard I was not able to play the 4K Blu-ray discs. The CyberLink software will give an error saying that the computer's cards are not capable or updated even though they are according to Intel and Nvidia's specifications and latest patches. NOTE: I opted with CyberLink's new software because it's one of the few certified ones that can actually play back 4K media content. There are forums with other users with more powerful builds and as prepared as I was and they still weren't able to play 4K Blu-rays either. There's also the issue of HDCP connections and HDMI which I won't get into but that will also affect other users. Bottom line in my experience and others across the forums, it's a great DVD and Blu-ray player but I wouldn't advertise or count on it to play 4K Blu-ray discs. The build is on par with the LG brand and it arrived in good condition. Sadly it's the only 4K Blu-ray player that Best Buy sells and one of the few in the market.
