After my old frigidaire gallery cool connect literally exploded (it was model FGRC1244T1 or FGRC124WAE or FGRC124WA1, cant remember which), I replaced it with the LG LW1522IVSM dual inverter. Aside from the exceptional cooling capability, the reported longevity, and the AMAZING energy efficiency (i used less than half the energy of what the old A/C used last month), the thing i loved most about it was its tray installation feature. My god, i cant rave enough about how convenient this is. When i saw that LG had a smaller inverter model that also shared the tray feature, I bought it as soon as I could to replace the my bedroom A/C, as the current one (the frigidaire gallery FGRC0644U1) was starting to struggle anyway.
So, first of all, good god this thing blows COLD. They both do. Its so cold, that im beginning to think that my frigidaires might have been defective. But if this is all you care about - there you go. this is a good one.
Now, this tray feature I'm referring to is this - the a/c consists of two portions, there's the exterior enclosure/cabinet/shell, then there's the main mechanism that sits on a tray. First, you install the shell into the window, and then you slide the mechanism tray into the shell after you have it all set an installed. Why do i love this so much? Several reasons!
For one, if youre installing on your own, you dont need to one handedly balance several dozens of pounds with one arm while you try to adjust and shift the unit (in addition to the widow itself) with the other. The fact that the mechanism is separate from the shell makes the initial installation an absolute breeze! The shell is maybe 10 pounds, tops, so its super light and you arent perpetually paranoid that youre going to drop a $500 bomb out the window if your grip slips. You get it positioned, secured, and screwed in, and then you slide the mechanism tray in. Easy peasy.
Secondly, the worst thing about traditional air conditioners (especially if you have it on the second floor) without this tray feature is that every time you have to clean the unit, you have to go through the whole installation process all over again.
You have to unscrew everything, pull out all of your insulation foam, pull it out of the window (while doing it one handed to make sure it doesnt fall out the window), carry it awkwardly through the house/apartment while it drips sludge everywhere, then unscrew the unit itself, to clean the insides, reassemble it, bring it back, re-do the whole install, repack with foam, etc.
*****But with this? You take off the faceplate, slide out the tray and carry it to wherever it has to go, do your maintenance, then bring it back and slide it back in. I dont need to reinstall the cabinet all over again, i don't need re-drill holes in the windows, i don't need to repack the insulation, etc. This feature makes it so convenient and easy, especially if you live in an apartment or have this on an upper level.*****
However, to be totally honest, i wasn't initially going to buy this air conditioner right now, until i realized that LG had actually discontinued this model, despite the fact that its only about a year old. So when it came in stock, i bought it right away, because I knew it probably wouldnt be back.
I think it might be discontinued because, while researching, all i saw was people on reddit expressing that they don't understand why its so heavy, 80 pounds altogether (shell, mechanism, tray, side panels, face plate, etc.), and so they passed on it for another unit. But im pretty sure its 10lbs heavier than the 8k model because of this tray feature. The tray has to be made of thicker grade of steel and be more sturdy so it doesnt bend and what not when you pick it up to move it, which translates to extra weight. The other models of this A/C, like the LW6023IVSM (6k), LW8022IVSM (8k), and even the larger LW1022IVSM (10k), do not have this tray feature. LG, you should advertise this feature more! its terrific!
The only issue i had with the unit was that it arrived with a lot of the front facing condenser fins crushed inward. I was largely able to rectify this myself with a coil straightener, but it was pretty bad. I wouldve exchanged if i could actually get another unit. I assign 90% of the blame to bestbuy/shipper and 10% to LG. Stuff like this from bestbuy almost always arrives beat up, they arent careful in their warehouses. LG should have included some protective foam or something in front of the front coil fins for transport. They included protection for the rear coil fins, and those arrived perfect despite a big gash in the box in that area.
In conclusion, if you ever see this come back in stock - get it!

I am so happy with this AC! I had the midea U before purchasing this ac and it just wasn't getting the job done. Im so glad I made the switch to this AC its just as quite and energy efficient but with way more power. If you looking for a great value look no further plus the LG App is super simple to use.
