This is great for laptops that do not have DVD players. It is so hard to find DVD players built into laptops now. This works very well. It plays movies as well as blu ray. It looks very well on my monitor. It was easy to load the software for it. I have not tried burning anything on it, so I can not talk about how that works for it.

Works great for watching blurays/dvds on my laptop and much cheaper than having to buy a new laptop(just to replace a broken cdr player on my current one). Only gave it 4 stars because it is a bit loud when using, but if your volume is up enough or you use headphones then its no problem.

I got this mainly because my new pc did not have a CD drive and I wanted something to install software. I was debating between this and another LG CD drive without the Blu-ray but with how many Blu-ray movies i have figured this would be the better route to go. I'm glad I went with this one. It is very quiet and thin so was able to sit underneath my new desktop.

I bought this for 3 main purposes - dumping my PS3 game discs, ripping my Blu-ray/4k UHD movies, and ripping my music CDs.
This is one of those rare devices that reads PS3 discs, and it does the job of dumping the game data for me really well. First objective a success then..
I was able to flash the device to read 4K UHD movies, which I was thrilled about. I'm able to build my own local media server now. Second objective a fantastic success...
Music ripping, however, has some strange problems. There are tracks on some of my CDs that this device just won't read for some reason. They are picked up just fine by other $30 DVD readers, but the problem persists here. You would think this would do CDs easily, since it is reading 70GBs of data from each 4k movie, but I guess not. Most CDs work just fine, but for some reason, certain discs are problems for this drive. A pity, because if it didn't falter at the easiest task I threw at it, I would say this drive is perfect.
I still love it though

Nice little device for playing DVDs and Blu-rays on a laptop or desktop and for backing up physical media. It is not compatible with two newish TVs that I tried, which is a bit disappointing. While not my primary purpose for purchasing it, TV playback would be a nice option.

Easy to use and set up. The only problem is that the provided software doesn't work for WIndows11. Once I purchased the updated version of the software, everything was fine.

I purchased this drive to re-burn a number of old CD-Rs, DVD-Rs and Blu-Ray RE discs I had created years ago. Over time they start to degrade.
This drive replaced another brand that failed after a few years. The drive itself is working well with windows 11 and nero burning rom. I've been able to create regular CD-R, DVD+R and Blu-Ray single and dual layer discs. I also got a BD M-DISC to burn with it at 100GB.
The only thing I don't like is that since it's USB 2, it requires 2 usb ports to power it. My previous drive only needed 1 port. This could be an issue for folks trying to use this with a newer laptop that is mostly USB-C. This is type A USB 2.0!
I have not tried to use this to watch a movie so no idea if that works well.
It's quite compact, and you'd want to make sure it's packed carefully if you are going to carry it with you. The top of the drive is not that hard and it can bow in with things on it. i wouldn't recommend putting anything on top of the unit.

I bought this drive to use for ripping blu rays to my collection. even though it takes 2 USB ports to power the drive, it works great. It is a little noisy compared to an internal desktop drive but it is speedy and works great.

I need a quick and affordable way to write dual layer Blu-ray discs. I like this brand, the portability, and it's capability for the price. I'd compared having the internal drive on my iMac repaired, and the fee was astronomical and would result in less functionality than this internal option. I also liked that I can move this drive between multiple PCs and laptops.

Least expensive double layer Blu-ray writer reader. It is light and small without needing heavy & large power adapter. Perfect solution for laptops and desktops. It also has LED light for status. And a real push eject button is perfect hardware solution. It is good for authoring Blu-Ray Video content and transferring lots of files to Blu-Rays, DVDs, CDs. (Side comments, Bestbuy decided to stop selling commercial Blu-Rays Movies in stores. Bestbuy had a lot more customers in stores when they carry ALL commercial Blu-Rays movies.)

Simply put this bu-ray writer works fine for watching DVD's and Blu-Rays..... The included software doesn't work when trying to encode or write a BDMV to a blu ray discs. You will have to buy software to burn and encode Blu-Rays. I still haven't found software that I think can do a quick and simple encoding job

Needs two USB ports for data and power if using in Blu-ray mode, otherwise only needs one port for using standard DVD format items. If using VLC app with this player region doesn't matter. Only if you use the native player with this LG will you have those constraints.

Ive always had internal drives on my laptops, but have been using my desktop more and really missed having a disc drive. The LG drive is pretty much plug and play ready. The read/write noise is minimal when in use and it fits right on top of my desktop. The only thing I would have done different, is have a longer USB cable included, to allow for easier placement if needed.
