Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First I tried it without the included software, just to see if it worked - it didn't recognize discs. So I installed everything from the included disc and tried again with the software's movie-playing-interface, and got "No disc in drive" message. So since it doesn't serve its purpose, the negatives become magnified. The software required multiple items be installed, and set themselves to start automatically with Windows. It requires two USB slots. It sounds like a jet engine when it spins up (which is a constant, ongoing behavior). The included software changed the lighting scheme on my PC hardware after restart (from no lights to all red). I'll be uninstalling all the garbage I just installed for this thing, and tossing it in a closet somewhere. Too bad.

My computer's dvd player froze in another region, because I played a movie from Italy in it. I had no idea this would reprogram my computer to only play dvd's from that region, forever! After finding this out, I had to purchase this external player. I thank the lady at Best Buy, for the great customer service. Great product.

They did not try up sell me. But I did that myself. I went with the Blu Ray capable model because I figured it would be better. It is. Very pleased. Easy to use. Plug and Play. Thanks for the Good Service as always Santa Clarita Store!!!

For a 1.5-2 hr. movie). Have yet to use the blu ray writer. Like the slim tray slot design. Has a good amount of bundled software, only used a couple (had my own 3rd party). I recommend for the price!
